Hi Bigbot -
I am using your 15-1 beta deodex and found something weird. Actually it happened on previous rom too, but did not verify it on other rom, only found out this time time around. I'm on the latest BOG5 firmware and the only way to fix this is to reboot the phone.
When I have WIFI ON, internet is fine.
When I turn OFF WIFI and use data, internet is fine too.
Turn ON Mobile Hotspot from data, internet is fine too.
BUT...., If I were on WIFI AND internet is fine, I turn ON Mobile Hotspot. I got a warning saying that "turning on Mobile Hotspot will turn off WIFI". I press OK and check internet, it is fine. And this is where it gets weird, if I turn OFF Mobile Hotspot and turn ON WIFI, my WIFI connects but NO INTERNET. Check my router and router said phone is CONNECTED, but phone has no internet. Ping the phone from the other computer connected to the same router return fine. Phone cannot ping anything on the same router or to the internet. The ONLY WAY to resolve the WIFI internet now is to reboot the phone.
BUT.... if I were going from WIFI to Mobile Hotspot by turning OFF WIFI FIRST, WAIT a few second and then TURN ON Mobile Hotspot. When I go back to WIFI, it is FINE. I CAN connect to internet. It is only when I allow the system to turn OFF WIFI by itself to activate Mobile Hotspot will I loose my WIFI internet when I reconnect back to WIFI.
Do you know what is going on? It seemed like if the system turn OFF WIFI by itself to connect to Mobile Hotspot, it is also doing something more that when you turn ON WIFI it won't connect to the internet.
Hopefully you understand what I'm going through. It's been a few weeks like this that I finally find out the culprit.

I noticed the same thing yesterday. As a matter of fact, I am currently on jrkruse's OG5 rom and the same thing happens.

Delete the SPG folder in system/app
Thanks. Not sure how I started a new thread by responding to that post. Dang xda app
I noticed that if you are connected to wifi, instead if disconnecting wifi when you turn the hotspot on, you can now hotspot your wifi back out. Perfect if you have to pay to connect to wifi. Means you can share that wifi connection.
I also noticed that if you connect to wifi and activate the hotspot, wifi calling and SMS operate as if you are connected to a cell Network. I had expected wifi calling to work when wifi calling is active, but for some reason, you can also send SMSs ONLY when the hotspot is on.
I cant figure out why either if these two fantastic things work only when the hotspot is on. What is the connection?
It means that if you are somewhere where there is only wifi (and obviously no cell service), you can hotspot to all your devices from your phone, take calls and send SMS. That's something new since the update.

Introduction:
I have a carrier free s7 not rooted (SM-G935U, android 6.0.1) and have loved the tethering feature. I especially use it while traveling to share the hotel Wi-Fi to other devices. For example, my phone registers on the hotel Wi-Fi and then shares the internet using the hotspot feature to my kindle. I have had no problems whatsoever until today. I have T-Mobile and hotspot won't work for wifi sharing or cell sharing. It doesn't turn on at all.
Symptoms:
When I attempt to turn on tethering using settings-> hotspot and tethering, it receives my selection, "thinks" about it, and then reverts to it being turned off. Sometimes it briefly has the hotspot notification appear.
Attempted fixes:
Disabled/enabled wifi, mobile data, airplane mode, smart view (though no tv's were available to cast). Restarted phone multiple times, including safe mode. Deleted system cache. Reset APN settings.
Theory:
The problem did arise shortly after trying to turn on smart view (the tv it turns it was a "dumb" tv, so it didn't work). I'm wondering if somehow smart view set a flag that interferes with mobile hotspot (since they are mutually exclusive features). This might not be the case because I haven't had troubles in various situations where I've used smart view before.
Any tips on how I can get this to work? I hate logging into the internet on multiple devices every time I switch hotels. I'd rather not reflash the phone but I could root if necessary. Thanks, y'all are really helpful.
I recently put rooted Lollipop PB1 on my SM-G900V (verizon), put AFWall+ on it, and thought all was good. However, when I restart my phone I can use wifi and VPN fine, but mobile hotspot tries and fails, even if I manually disconnect VPN first. I restart again and mobile hotspot works fine, but if I disconnect then VPN using native android interface is always "unsuccessful." I've tried OpenVPN client and PIA client instead of the native one but to no avail (I think the PIA one made it so my wifi couldn't come back on until a restart). Yes, VPN, OpenVPN and PIA are enabled in AFwall+ (wifi, mobile, vpn boxes).
It seems like restart is a toggle to use vpn, restart again to use hotspot, but not both. something wacky seems to be going on with the radios.
I suppose if I had to choose I can just restart and just use mobile hotspot and forgot about vpn, but I am just wondering if there's something obvious I've overlooked since it'd be great to be able to use both.
Thanks for reading.
It seems my network stack is messed up. With AFwall uninstalled, I'm getting DNS errors connected to wifi and/or mobile. I've unfrozen all system apps except Peel Remote, and nothing system-related is Greenified.
Changed DNS server from this tip here and rebooted. Wifi and data work now.
How could DNS have gotten corrupted? Should I just do a factory reset?
Testing to see if this fixed original problem.
Ok, the above DNS change did fix the original problem.
I restored AFwall+ from Titanium backup (app + data).
Ran wifi with VPN. Check.
Turned off VPN and ran hotspot. It tried, tried, and worked third time.
Turned hotspot off, enabled wifi, and ran VPN. "Unsuccessful."
Uninstalled AFwall+.
Wifi on, ran VPN. Fail.
Turned off wifi and ran hotspot with mobile. VPN works.
Turned off hotspot, turned off mobile, turned on wifi. VPN fails.
Restarted.
Wifi on, VPN on. "Unsuccessful" once ....then connected.
Wifi off, data on, hotspot on. Success.
Wifi on, data off, VPN? "Unsuccessful"
Try again manually. Success.
So it seems that I did something in AFwall+ that really messed up my network stack.
Is there an easy reset or fix to get things more stable again?
Ok, so just as the title states I am having trouble with my AT&T Unlocked S7 Edge model SM-G935A
What happens is if I try to turn on my WiFi it starts looking for networks but it wont show any, it'll just keep spinning looking for them.
I know its not an antenna problem because if I go to my hotspot and turn it on, then go back to WiFi settings and turn my wifi on it will work as normal. Then I can turn my hotspot off and keep using the WiFi.
So antenna is OK. But its a pain in the A to do this everytime I want to connect to a wifi network. Specially considering it should just work.
I am running Android Nougat. Any suggestions?
Thank you!
