Hello,
I would really like to use a Nougat rom on a daily basis, but this is impossible for me because of a thing that may sound really simple - the headphones control button doesn't work on any custom rom that is not stock based(so any AOSP etc.). This is essential for me as I am cycling A LOT and I need this stupid button to receive/end calls and play/pause music.
The only way I can make it work on custom roms is by installing Xposed Additions - but it only works up to Android 6.0.
Does anyone have a solution for this problem? Your help will be greatly appreciated!

I have a mi headphones pro and they are working absolutely well. The volume up and low buttons work while the middle button on pressing once plays/pauses songs, double pressing plays next song and triple pressing players previous song.
I am on LOS.

Hi,
I have had this great phone for a week and used the plentiful advice on xda to get it working exactly as I want... almost.
I can't seem to find any information or settings on how to enable the volume buttons when my phone is locked. This would be very useful as I tend to lock the phone when it's in my pocket and it's a pain when walking to have to get it out, unlock it and enter my passcode just to make it louder or quieter by a few notches.
Also, is it possible to make the hardware buttons increase or decrease in smaller increments - it's jumping up or down by three at a time (single increments would be preferred)?
Thanks
+1 on Tmo US version
Is there really no way to do this? Seems like the kind of thing one should be able to change in the registry...
Changing volume in the pocket is a habit I've been using with music players since I had my first walkman in 1982!
i use miri roms for months now and i've noticed some time ago that volume buttons work even when my phone is locked and although the increment value for system and ring volume vary from rom to rom, i've noticed that when listening to music the increment is +/- 1.
i just verified so that i'm sure what i'm talking about and here's more specific data:
i'm with latest miri rom 6.5.X V.15.2 and radio 2.09.50.29
volume buttons work when phone is locked
volume increment is 3 for system and ringtone volume
volume increment is 1 for music player
i use the build in HTC music tab player so i don't know about other players though...
if you need info on some other player just tell me which one and i'll test it for you.

Volume buttons should work without unlocking the phone with all ROMs when listening to music. Unless the chef specifically took the functionality out.
Thanks for the replies guys, I've not logged on for a while! I'm using an old version of CorePlayer rather than the built in one (much better EQ settings - can actually get the phone to sound okay). I'd assume that the player being used should have no bearing on the phone volume (apart from maybe the increments). Maybe I'll give the miri ROM a go. Just using my standard Vodafone ROM with a few tweaks (including Cookies Home Tab).
I am just using the default Samsung music app, so maybe a simple player switch will suffice...
I am coming from a iPhone 5. One thing the iPhone does very well is play music. There are a copy of issues with my S4 in this regard that are driving me crazy, I am hoping you guys can help me resolve them:
1. Volume rocker on headphones does not control music volume. As far as I can tell the volume rocker just doesnt do anything at all. Is there a way to make this control music / voice levels? Very annoying having to fish for the phone to actually move the volume rocker.
2. Previous doesnt work. On the iPhone you can triple click the button on the headset to either restart the current song or go back to the previous song that was playing before. I used this quite often as i sometimes like to Binge on a particular soundtrack. This does not seem to work currently, triple pressing the button simply goes to the next song (double tap) and then pauses (single tap).
Loving the S4 so far, I definitely hope the above is something that is possible to fix though. Thanks a lot guys!
Try google play music? The volume thing worked on my s3 however I've yet to test ion s4... Also i use poweramp
sgh-i747(d2att)(sgs3) on latest cm10.1 or ultimatum
my headphones work on the s4 so far... volume and pause/skip tracks also works. single tap button to pause, double tap to skip etc. maybe u got a faulty headset?
Yeah sounds like a faulty headset...mine works

Or push it further in maybe? It seems to be hard at first to press in the headphone all the way... loosen up over time
Questions go in Q&A

Hey Guys,
I have a quick question about headset button controls.
Back in 4.2 I was able to start and stop music with a single click of the button, skip tracks by double clicking, and voice search with a hold of the button. All with the screen off.
After going to 4.2.2 I seem to have lost all functionality except for the single click pause/play.
I thought maybe it was a stock android thing, so I tried a few roms and still, nothing. My next thought was it was a hardware thing, so I tried the same test on my Galaxy Nexus running 4.2.2 and still... nothing (although when the screen is on all the functionality is there)
Is this a known bug? I really want my functionality back as it's very helpful when I bike, I've tried apps like jays headset or whatever and they are just cumbersome and lame, so I'm curious if there's a way to bring this back?
I'm running the latest PA (4.2.2 obviously) with single button skullcandy earphones and the Jays headset control app and I can do a double tap to skip song and triple tap to go back as well as the standard play/pause functionality so I'd recommend reinstalling the Jays app and messing around with some of the settings to try to get it to work. One thing I do know (and it's absolutely ridiculous) is that you can no longer press and hold to perform any functions which just seems quite odd to me.
Hey, guys! Usually when you're press the answer button on the earphone twice oer three times it changes to the next/previous song on music players. Why it doesn't work on this phone? I tried with the stock rom 4.4 and 5.1, with MIUI V5 and CM13 and it does not work =/ could anyone help me find a solution for this? I don't like taking my phone of my pocket everytime I want to change the song
PS: I also tried pressing volume buttons but didn't worked
Hi! Is skipping music tracks with the volume button available in Nougat?
While I love the idea of trying out Nougat on my S7 Edge, the one feature that I CANNOT live without is the Physical Button Music Control - ie skip music tracks with a long press of the volume button (why oh why, Samsung, in 2017 is this not a default feature? It forces me to have to take my phone out of my pocket every time I want to skip a track. Not cool...but that's a topic for another day).
To achieve this in Marshmallow (6.0.1), I use the Physical Button Music Control module for the Xposed framework. This works flawlessly.
Here's my question - is this function available in Nougat? I know Xposed probably isn't and maybe won't be for a long time. If so, and if there's no native functionality to do this, then I'll stay on 6.0.1 for now. I've tried 3rd party apps on from the Play store and none seem to work as well as the Xposed one.
I've been using this feature since my S2 custom rom days. I still can't believe it's not a standard feature. Yes, there are physical buttons on the included headphones, but they're no match for my Grados, so don't even offer a different headphone as a solution to this!
Thanks in advance!!
i miss this too.i have learned that, when using the headphone, if i double press the play/pause button, it skips to next track...
its no a full control, but it is something =D
That's great that you've got that work around. But I don't use headphones that have inline controls. I find it hard to believe that people just accept that they have to take their phone out and skip tracks that way if they don't have inline controls.
I wonder what the percentage is for people who operate this way?
The long volume press is such an elegant solution to skipping tracks. I'm surprised it isn't a standard adopted by Google in general. Maybe I'm missing something. If you're a person who doesn't have an inline remote, please tell me how you cope.
