TWRP recovery issue - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, I unlocked my nexus 4 installed TWRP ( tried several versions) currently 3.0.3 and now TWRP bootloops..
Any thoughts or fixes for this ?
I added a screen capture, " could not mount /data and unable to find crypto footer" unable to mount storage, etc.

Did you try 2.87? Is the phone encrypted?

I haven't tried 3.0.3, but 3.0.2 works flawlessly on my N4, with device encryption.
TWRP seems to be failing at decrypting your data partition.
Does Android boot in normal mode?

I will try 3.0.2 and report back... thanks for the help!

precisely yesterday i was in the same situation when i was trying to downgrade to 4.4.4 oem.... i fix it installing other recovery, recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.7-mako http://www.4shared.com/zip/6v3Z7Ghrba/recovery-clockwork-touch-6047-.html
but i install in MAC, in windows i don´t know if is the same process, i was follow this video about how to unlock bootloader in mac
when i install the recovery and enter in fastboot, i put in restart, it will request for fix (yes or no, you choose) the root, i choose NO, and the nexus 4 wake up again in the Cooked Rom, so i try again downgrade :fingers-crossed:
hope it work for u like me

TWRP Encryption password

Hey guys,
I recently flashed to cm13 from the Android N Developer Preview and I formatted the userdata partition in order to decrypt the phone afterwards so TWRP could access /data but each time I boot up it's reencrypted. Any thoughts? I can't use TWRP at all to install zips or anything like that while the device is encrypted - it requires a password to decrypt /data. I've tried default_password, my pin, and rebooting before setting a password and none have worked. Please help I'm slowly dying without xposed. Also I'm not coming straight from the Android N Preview; I downgraded to M in order to get the right vendor image via the OTA update because when I tried to flash cm straight from the preview I got in a boot loop due to not having the right vendor.img if that makes any difference.

You have to flash a modified boot img. The official one automatically encrypts your phone.
Where would I find one? I found one but it just put me in a boot loop. Is there a thread for that on here or any good places you know of?
If flashing zips is the only thing you are concerned about you could give flash fire a try. It worked great for me to flash some zips in nougat.

Android 7.1.2 Encryption

Hi,
sorry if that question has been already answered, but I cannot find an clear answer
I need to encrypt my cell phone, however each time I try I get an error telling that the encryption
did not finished correctly, and my cell phone is corrupteur and need to Factory reset
Is there a 7.1.2 Rom that exists with encryption working ?
if not do you know if a 6.x Rom exist that's support encryption.
Many thanks for your help.
I finely found a way to have ZUK Z1 encrypted under 7.1.2.
Below steps used:
Factory restore using All in One tool
Flash TWRP Official 3.0.2
Using TWRP installation of a 6.0 ROM
After boot and setup, enter Preference/Security/Encrypt
At this point ZUK Z1 appears encrypted
The issues are that under TWRP unable to mount or see files
I flashed lineage and open_gapps using the “adb sideload” option.
After a reboot, ZUK Z1 appears as encrypted
For the time being all is working fine, except the fact that TWRP cannot mount the device, because it’s encrypted. I guess that’s an issue with TWRP itself. I don’t know if a version exists to fix this ….
I tried to do it same way with several 6.0 ROMs still available here (a lot of dead links...) but each try using device encryption ends with an
automatic reboot and back to welcome screen without encryption.
At the moment I am using TWRP 3.1.0 (comming fomr 3.0.2) with 7.1.2 Nuclear ROM.
Any ideas? Device Encryption is important for me.

The 6.0 ROM that's worked for me was " Temasek-20160217-NIGHTLY-ham "
Make sure you fully factor restore using the All In One tool
boot your phone on V5 and setup your cell phone account
Then using TWRP install V6 ROM with the Temasek one.
then Encrypt your phone .... that's should work ok
then us "adb sideload" to inject the V7 Lineage ROM
Let me know at which step you are stuck !
Hey, sorry for long delay ...
It will work up to "Temasek-20160217-NIGHTLY-ham", flashing AOSP 4.6 (Android 7) by sideload will cause "Password wrong" problems while booting
decrypting data partition. Still hope to get a way working zu install AOSP 5.1 (Android 8.1) with full encryption. Tried TWRP 3.02 and newer 3..2.1.
no worry about "password", I already installed nightly build of Lineage without issues using sideload.
Of course I got the message about password, I just ignore it
the only point is that I had to install TWRP V2.8.7 and not 3.x. because with 3.x sometimes I was not able
to boot recovery mode.
Before each install I fully backup my cell phone in case of .... SMS, Pictures etc...
Good luck,
The problem is not the password while starting to recovery 3.x.x, its the password while booting...
1. Factory restore using All in One tool (okay, works)
2. Setup Phone and encrypt (works, okay - Password will be accepted)
3. Flash TWRP (3.02 / 3.2.1.0) - tried both (okay, works - Password for encryption Recovery will not be accepted
4. I skip that and sideload flash (clearing cache etc.) "Temasek-20160217-NIGHTLY-ham.zip" (okay, Recovery = not, While Booting = Password accepted) (I choosed PIN and something like : OfferMe#1963ZU several times)
5. I skip Password in Recovery and sideload flash (clearing cache) "lineage-14.1-20180124-nightly-ham-signed.zip" (okay, Recovery still not, While Booting = Password NOT accepted)
Seems no matter if Lineage ROM 14.1 or higher...
Still confused
I am not using password at boot. I only set a password to unlock the phone after boot.

OnePlus 5 problem after update to 8.0 (Beta)

*** Sorry, my English isn't good ***
Hi, I have a problem with OP5, I decided to install OOS 8.0 (Beta), I had OOS on 7.1.1 (Root) (TWRP), I made full wipe in TWRP and installed OOS 4.5.14 (7.1.1), after that i get Stock Recovery and Iupgraded OOS to 8.0 (According to the OnePlus manual) -> Bootloop. I decided to go back to 7.1.1 -> Error, I uploaded TWRP and another attempt to download 7.1.1 -> The system got up but I can not do anything because I have an error "Udecrypting the device. (Write to do "Factory reset"), so again to TWRP -> Full Wipe and here is interesting, I get my error "Wrong argument", the phone does not see my built in memory (I write that I have 0mb), what can I do in this situation? Anyone know?
ERROR in TWRP: "Unable to mount storage"
Please help me.
Go to recovery -wipe-advanced wipe-data-repair or change file system- change file system. First select EXT2 and after that EXT4 and now you should be able to use your storage but you need to flash new TWRP (try this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=27442)

Thank you for that link. I was having another issue - the TWRP downloaded from the official site didn't work on the latest Oreo beta build and didn't overwrite the stock recovery and couldn't mount /data. This one did.
yeah im having major issues with mine, im now stuck in a download mode i cant get out of !
The first question is, you want to go Oreo or return nougat? In the first case, go to the dedicated thread, download the black TWRP and format data (if you can't read anything) reboot to TWRP again now copy the Oreo firmware and install it from the same recovery, reboot to recovery again if you don't have the stock one automatically installed, just flash it via TWRP. So once you're in stock recovery format EVERYTHING, reboot to system, and after you've configured the initial setup of your device if you want reboot to bootloader and reinstall the black TWRP and flash magisk 14.56 for root.. I've done this for getting this Oreo rom works
Exactly happened with me too. I even accidentally deleted all the contents of my storage. Tried to sideload via adb but got unknown device error. This thread worked for me
https://thedroidguru.com/how-to-unbrick-oneplus-5-phone-with-official-tool/
ive just restored the latest nougat firmware/radios and jumped back onto an aosp build until op5 gets official Oreo build

OP5 Doesnt boot after TWRP, no_verity_op5.zip, Magisk

First of all, all my Data is backed on my Harddrive, so we dont need to take care of them.
I followed the Guide on One Plus Forum on how to unlock the Bootloader and Flash TWRP and root.
I wanted to use Magisk for root.
I followed the guide until the step with the decrypted filesystem. I installed the "no_verity_op5.zip" and magisk as statet in the guide and now my phone starts with the "g.com/abh" message and goes directly to TWRP.
When i start fastboot, bootloader and baseband is blank.
Any idea how to fix my phone?

maybe u can try to ignore the blank screen on the fastboot and fash TWRP, if it's showing success on the cmd/powershell, then try to boot into recovery via command on the cmd/powershell. or maybe u can relock ur bootloader.
also in my experience i didn't install the "no_verity_op5.zip", i just did the unlock comand and select unlock bootloader and it's done
Sorry for the late reply, i needed a sleep.
I flashed TWRP a few times without succes, also flashing no_verity_op5.zip didnt help.
My previous idea was to use Resurrection Remix from XDA, so i flashed it and the Phone started again.
But it didnt connect to my Wifi, several restarts of the phone and of my router later i flashed OOS Again.
Maybe ill try to root it again. If it fails, ill be here again.
/data needs to be completely formatted after flashing the no_verity zip, there's no other way to remove the encryption.
The reason that's relevant is you'll get what your experiencing of you don't format /data, as it's trying to access the encrypted data that the fstab says isn't encrypted at this point and can't get further than that
1/ Backup your files on your computer
2/ Format your Data partion (format.. it's not a wipe!) you will erase all your data/internal
3/ Wipe all your others partitions (Dalvik/Cache + Cache + System)
4/ Install your rom
5/ Install no-verity zip oreo if you want have a decrypted device or flash nothing if you want have a encrypted device (more safe)
6/ Install Magisk... a 14.x Magisk version instead of a 15.x, 15x might cause bootloop after a clean flash. You can update your Magisk after the first boot
are you on 5.0.1? dirty reflashing the rom worked for me

Will this be able to format data on Android 10 encryption like SHRP?
Flashed it from fastboot but doesn't come ,only comes fastboot mode ?
Only Sharp works in 10 properly.

It just won't boot. You can still recover from this by enabling the setting in twrp and reformatting data.
You will lose data regardless of this being enabled because this is only used for formatting data. That's what formatting data does

can I install shrp recovery zip and then miui12...
what I will do is -->
1. install this recovery in b slot through minimal adb
2. boot in twrp
3. install shrp recovery zip file (phone is still in b-slot)
4. change slot to a
5. reboot recovery
6. format data
7. install miui12
8. reboot
will this steps safely boot my device???
hello. first thank you very much for your hard work. i really apreciate.
so, i was on stock rom, freshly unlock the bootloader and flash twrp unofficial for android 10.
then in twrp i flash the zip installer and reboot to recovery.
once again in twrp i, like i'm use to, wipe successfully dalvik/system/data to erased all of stock rom.
then i format data (the one typing "yes" for confirmation) but it broke internal storage.
twrp does not show any file or folders. i rebooti in recovery but it won't show anything
i reflash twrp and the same... nothing.
so i went to fastboot mode and flash shrp, boot up in recovery but it was still not showing files or folders of internal storage. i wipe dalvik/system/data and reboot to recovey.
and this time it show folder but with codes like "QRGHQ9R4HGVUQE4RNG98TH9324HTG923" OR "66EFQ3KFK4TK34KT3K4K34K2KK2" and so...
what do i 'm doing wrong?
can i format data with out breaking internal storage?
the only thing i can do to get internal storage was flash stock rom again, i have not encrypted anything, i don't use microsd card, even i don't use password to unlock screen.
thanks in advance for your comments.

Ok you performed Format > And type "Yes" , actually this will Format your internal storage as well, RIP for your Data now else you took a backup earlier.
Now connect your phone to your PC with data cable , in mount section check if MTP is enabled if not then enable it , now your phone's internal storage shows in PC transfer Rom flash Zip files to internal storage, disconnect from PC and flash that rom.
Recovery choice is yours SHRP or TWRP
Note - Do not perform format > yes before flashing that zip.

Not able to flash recovery
I am on the latest stock android patch, probably that's why not able to flash recovery.
First I tried TWRP 3.3.1-2 Unofficial by Nikesh Kataria from the other post. As it said it supported android 10 with decryption and everything. But it didn't work.
Now with version 3.4.0-0, I am able to boot into recovery using platform-tools. But the files in /sdcard seems to be encrypted (judging by the codes shown instead of readable folder names).
Could someone please help me suggest any recovery which supports latest stock android 10 with decryption?
Is there a way around this?

Decryption will only work if you format data first. This is with every recovery. Has to be a factory reset of stock ROM or fresh install of custom ROM and from then twrp will be able to decrypt if it is installed, you're not installing it either by the way just temporarily installing it to inactive slot which will get wiped on reboot. For twrp to decrypt you must install it using the installer.zip by flashing it in you're temporarily installed twrp.img

Thanks for the help.
But after booting into twrp, how do I install twrp.zip. I even tried sideload that also errors out "Unable to find partition for path /cache".
May be I am missing some step. But here is what I have done.
Unlocked bootloader.
Booted into TWRP on inactive_slot(i.e. slot_b , in my case) with command fastboot flash boot twrp.img
Trying to install twrp.zip (failing at this step itself).
