Could use some help figuring out what to flash - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My girlfriend has been begging me to update her Verizon S5 for months, so I've finally started reading my options, and I'm lost. Right now her S5 is just stock rooted, still running 4.4.4. I was going to install Resurrection Remix N KLTE but I just realized it requires an unlocked bootloader, which I've determined isn't possible on her phone. I was hoping to find a ROM based on Nougat that she would like but besides Resurrection Remix I didn't notice one. Really all she cares about is being able to theme her phone like she has now using the Wanam module for Xposed. I'm thinking of just getting her to stock MM and installing Xposed but the post I read mentioned boot loops on Samsung devices, and that there were unofficial builds that fix that, but didn't link to any. I'm also not sure how to either keep root or to reroot once on MM. It's been over two years since I rooted her phone, and I recall having issues. Anyone have any advice? Links? a spare S5 with an unlocked bootloader? Ok the last one isn't necessary but the first two would be appreciated.

the only thing that i'm really surprised that your girlfriend
i mean you cant find a girl who knows in android very much everyday XDDD
anyway sammobile is the first place

What ROM Should I Get?

Hey guys,
A weird question yes, but I have no clue, been sat on 4.4.2 for the past 7 months now, feel like it is time to get lollipop, but I don't want to for one reason and that is that xposed apps (from what I have read) don't all work and I use a few of them. Is there a way to get xposed working correctly? (I haven't been around here in a while)
If this is the wrong forum, then can an Admin move it to the correct one please.
Thanks for all help

If you asked this question some 3 weeks earlier, the advice would have been "don't update", but:
1. rovo89 managed to bring his Xposed framework to AOSP Lollipop up to 5.0, there are unofficial variants that are adapted to work with 5.1+, as well.
2. On the TouchWiz side, Samsung made a s***load of changes in the ART runtime, and only recently two devs (arter97 and darkera13) managed to bring Xposed to TouchWiz Lollipop, using two different methods, but both have the necessity that a deodexed ROM is used.
3. Mind you, TW Lollipop is one ugly-a** motherf***er. Literally ugly as hell, even if it is the fastest TouchWiz to date.
So, if you feel like experimenting, give the development forum a look, but keep in mind: better flash through Odin a stock Lollipop in order to upgrade your bootloader and modem (without that, upon flashing a 5.0 TouchWiz ROM you'll get a bootloop; before Samsung updated us to Lollipop, we had a couple of experimental AOSP ROMs which worked flawlessly with the old bootloader and modem).
Also, if you plan to use Xposed with Lollipop, carefully read the threads of the Xposed apps you intend to use, some might not be updated yet to work with Lollipop.
That's my two cents.

Thanks for the reply, I finally got it now, AryaMod's version, seems nice for now, yeah it doesn't look the best but I am liking the speed a lot. Going to finish installing apps, backup then try and get xposed working. Any apps that are good for lollipop that make it different at all or?

When Wanam gets his module and all it's functionality updated properly, you'll be able to theme any TW ROM you flash properly and mod it like hell, but he barely begun work on it due to the fact that only recently Xposed was brought to TW Lollipop (Wanam is TW module exclusively).
My own setup is Project Artware by arter97 (you can google it and find it easily, but he still hasn't shown that project here on XDA) + his kernel, then only the GravityBox module to tweak the behavior of the volume rocker and the capacitive buttons to behave like the Note 4 (left capacitive button for recent apps instead of holding down the home button, I've always hated the stock implementation for the Note 3 ).
If you like that setup, with AryaMod you probably won't need GravityBox.

I need help! CM or TW?!

I'm giving my S4 I9505 to a 5 year old cousin and i need help!
If i give him my phone in this software condition he will get an S4 running CM13,
TWRP 2.8.7.0,XPOSED Framework and 2,3 modules. I dont want him to mess with that so I am thinking about:STOCK, UNROOTED TW 5.0.1 OR CM13 ROOT DISABLED AND CYANOGEN RECOVERY JUST FOR UPDATING.
P.S WE WILL SWAP PHONES HE WILL GIVE ME AN S6 EDGE AND I GIVE HIM THIS.

Stock and unrooted is the best
I also think stock and unrooted.
You never know what CM's updates might break. Thus giving more trouble in the long-run.
Since he is 5 years old I doubt he cares about the newest android version and latest features.
OK thanks!
I change roms on mine every 2 days and it is my daily driver now on CM13 nightly and want nice TW rom
I get bored of AOSP and CM

Lg G2 VS980 wont go past Lollipop for me?

I need some help, anyone, please! I have a Lg G2 VS980, rooted supersu by chainfire version 2.79 latest, i guess. twrp 3.2.0-1 by blastagator, and running resurrection remix 5.4.7(Lollipop 5.1.1) from stock rom VS98024a which i pushed with lgtool14, i believe. From stock VS98011a which i also installed a year ago when my ParanoidAndroid os Lollipop rom 5.1.1 just stopped working all together dont know why, still. tried flashing over that with lollipop CrDroid rom Lollipop 5.1.1 when the phone bricked. So I proceeded to start from scratch again learning as i go, im kinda good like that sometimes. so i did all of this all is working well and good again, except for one thing, when I try to flash any custom marshmallow even nougat roms they install like the lollipop ones fine, matching micro Gapps packages every time for marshmallow and nougat roms. wipe the dalvik and cache properly, all is good til reboot of the system. Lg logo comes up then black screen and nothing else ever, Ive let it sit for hours and nothing. i dont know what i am missing here i know its possible to go past lollipop but im at a loss here. ive searched til my eyes bleed but there is no comprehensive guide on how this is accomplished and what to do with the black screen issue im facing. i dont know if i need to do a bootstack change or something else i dont know about. If i could get some guidance here maybe a solution to this issue. hell i dont care if i got to start from scratch again. something guys. if you need any info i havent provided ask. and yes i have all the proper latest drivers, adb, fastboot, and even latest android studio from google, which i dont have a clue as to how to use. im not a noob but by no means a developer, lol.

Xposed g900v question

I am running deodexed stock 5.0 on vzw galaxy s5 and on my moto x I was running xposed. I didn't install it at first on my s5 because I didn't see much use in the modules. I've been looking around and I've seen a lot of modules that could be useful on my s5. When I was looking at the bugs in it, it said it can cause a bootloop on stock Samsung devices. I can't risk getting stuck in a bootloop because of my safestrap. Is my rom safe since it isn't technically stock or should I wait for the bug to be fixed. Or just download another rom
You could try another ROM, but good luck on that too.
I've tried just about everything possible, that can still be found.
I'm dying without Gravity Box module, but have had to do a reinstall, root, and recover, three times now.
I might try a few more things, but should probably wait myself.

Custom Rom Install Issues on Sprint Note 3 (SM-N900P)

OK< this is the issue I am having with the phone, which is a Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900P (Sprint). I originally rootted it about 2 and a hal years ago, and I THINK, not absolutely sure, but think I used KingoRoot when I did, only because no matter what I couldnt get it to root otherwise. I originally installed slimkat, then in January 2016 I installed Resurrection Remix 5.1 . The phone runs great, but the rub is, it wont let me install ANY other ROMs, olde or newer. Also, when I rooted it, I had to use Flashify to install the Recovery while I was still on the original Samsung ROM. That version is 3.0.2-0. All the other info I can think of that may help anyone who is willing to give me an idea is listed below.
I would REALLY like to try a NOTE 7 rom, seems they are really really good from what I have read, or at least RR 6.0
Build Number Resurrection Remix Lollipop 5.1.1-f26-LMY48Y
Sprint Note 3 (SM-N900P) Running Resurrection Remix LP v5.5.9, rooted,
Kernal version 3.4.0-g7db381d
[email protected] #1
Baseband Version
N900pVPUEOK2
ANY help would be fantastically appreciated, have been a big fan of this site since WAY back (AT&T Pocket PC PHONE and Samsung BlackJack years.)
Thanks in advance.
I would also ask in the SPRINT forum .

I would risk it and factory wipe, install stock ROM and try to root using the newest methods available and proceed to flash a custom recovery (TWRP 2.8.7 recommended) since it appears to be the most compatible with the newer ROMs
Your choice though

That was the best idea. I did a factory wipe, didnt install a stock rom, and as you suggested flashed TWRP 2.8.7, and now works just fine, hell it even fixed some other issues I had been having. Thanks, much appreciated.
