It states the US996 is compatible, but not "U.S. Cellular" ?

Does that mean this US996 is not available for root? Or it wont be rootable after putting in my AT&T sim?
please explain.
There's the US996 factory unlocked variant, then the US Cellular variant. There completely different, the US996 unlocked is rootable, the US Cellular variant is not. Be careful to which one you get. And I'm pretty sure you'll be able to stick an at&t sim in there and still have it working. As I said make sure you get the US996 Unlocked Variant. NOT THE US CELLULAR VARIANT

The US Cellular US996 variant is factory/network unlocked but the bootloader is not unlockable (I own one). The US996 US Market version has a bootloader that can be unlocked via the LG website.

I have the us997 model and everything works great on Verizon! Not sure the 870 works on vzw...
Your best bet for compatibility with Verizon is the us997 model. Make sure it's NOT tied to us cellular to have the ability to unlock the bootloader. For some odd reason the unlocked us997 has the same model as the US cellular Version. LG will only unlock the bootloader of the unlocked variants.
I want to install custom Rom on LG V20. Which carrier should I get it from, T-Mobile, Att, Sprint, Verizon? Thanks.
You should get the US996 unlocked version. It will work on all the carriers plus you can unlock the bootloader on LG's website. All the others you will need to use Dirty Santa to unlock unless they have newer firmware which cannot unlock yet. You can get the US996 fairly cheap. Just make sure it is the US996 unlocked not the US996 US Cellular version.
Is there a way to tell if a phone is the US Cellular version or the actual unlocked version?
Already got burned once buying a US996 from ebay that was labelled as factory unlocked but it was actually a US Cellular.
I'm hoping there/s something on the sticker under the battery that will have the answers but nothing obvious from what I can see.
Does the US996 model support all TMobile bands including band 12 and VoLTE, wifi calling? Thanks.
I want to buy LG V20, but I can't choose between H910 and VS995. I need stable in 3G networks.
What will be better?
sorry for my English
Depends on what carrier you're using. VS995 will be less compatible with other US carriers so you would want to stick strictly to verizon if you're getting it. If you're looking for support for other carriers go with either t-mobile h918 variant or us996 US unlocked (NOT US CELLULAR). If you plan on rooting these models are currently being supported with stock and custom ROMs.

The VS995 and H910 models support the frequencies I need. And if you look at the two, which is better? Root and Custom ROM's are needed
Since you are looking to root, the H910 is the only model that is still rootable on the latest (v10r) firmware.

If you get one that hasn't been patched for DirtySanta (pre-10P I believe) it works. The newest versions has AntiRollback so you can't go back to a rootable firmware so just make sure you get one with the proper firmware.

No, this only applies to VS995. As far as I know H910 is still rootable on the latest firmware.

I check VS955 firmware and it have NRD90M VS95514B, can it be rooted?
Can you tell me what version is better to buy now? Im only worried about that crackling noise on hi-fi audio recording. And can any of these 2 versions be rooted now?
Just looking for some clarification here.
I will probably be using this only on Verizon (mvno), though at some point I might like to switch carriers, but if that isn't possible I'll probably live with it.
It appears the US996 is the same as the VS995 except it supports a few more bands.
Am I able to use the US996 (both the unlocked and US Cellular) on Verizon?
Can you actually flash the VS995 firmware onto a US996 (both unlocked and US Cellular)?
If so, then the usable difference between a VS995 and US996 in this case is basically nothing?
If you are planning to use a custom ROM anyway (like Lineage) then is there basically no difference between the 3 models?
I have been using a US996 on Verizon with the VS995 Weta rom for almost a year. I have not gotten Voice over LTE to work, but I have not put in a huge amount of effort. I believe the VS995 has some radio bands the US996 does not, but I have had no issues from that. As far as I can tell everything else works.
I would suggest getting a sim card activated on a Verizon phone and the transferring the sim card to the US996. Verizon would not activate the sim card in the US996 for me.
I'm thinking about buying a used US996 UCL (locked to US Cellular) to use on T-Mobile network.
Is there a service selling the unlock code for this phone? I haven't found any service that specifically say they do US Cellular phones.
If I root the phone, can I sim unlock it myself? Are all versions of this phone root-able, or will I need to check for something specific (security software version, firmware version, etc.)?
These are really noobish questions, but I hope someone can help me. Thanks!
According to their policy, all U.S. Cellular phones from February 2016 and newer already come SIM unlocked, so that's probably why you couldn't find any unlock codes/services:

Wow, that's really nice of US Cellular. It's a shame they have no presence where I am.
Thanks!
V20 are locked at OS level, flashing to a carrier-less firmware (US996), or a firmware from a carrier that doesn't lock their phone (everything aside from T-Mobile and Sprint), or an AOSP ROM (LineageOS) will unlock the device. Unless its a H918 or LS997, you don't have to worry about SIM locking
