Hello, I have an A-510FD Duos version. I am bored of TouchWiz UI and want a new UI without installing a launcher. Currently my phone is on 6.0.1 with the latest security patch installed. I want a step by step guide on how to root it with the latest Odin version i.e 3.12.3 as I am a noob when it comes to these things. I have never ever rooted before. Also after a successful root I want help in choosing the right ROM. I would like to upgrade to Android 7.0 and a stock Android UI like in the pixel with Google assistant if possible. Thank you

Hi,
I am using a Galaxy Note 3 UK phone with what appears to be an official stock Android 5.0 Image:
N9005XXUGBNL8 5.0
Containing the following files:
AP_N9005XXUGBNL8_CL3643614_QB3415922_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar
BL_N9005XXUGBNL8_CL3643614_QB3415922_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar
CP_N9005XXUGBNL8_CL3643614_QB3415922_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar

So I fired up Odin 3.09, did a Nand wipe and installed the above, then flashed the above again once more time and hey presto got Android 5.0 running very nicely on my phone.
What I want to know is if there is anything good out there from the ROM guys that is worth flashing on top now as the stock image is nice but it's slow and has some annoying things there which I am hoping have been resolved in some custom ROM.
I managed to root the OS and got basic stuff working but miss things like Synapse with the customer Kernel etc.
Thanks in advance,
Fz
Hi all,
I have UK SG312 on Andorid 4.3 rooted with SuperSU already installed .....
I have Phab7 installed via Xposed Installer and also a few other UI customisations via gravity box such as custom battery status .. but the main reason was to get the tablet mode UI option enabled so that the Back & Home .. etc buttons/icons are positioned in the more tablet friendly bottom left of the screen.
Is it possible to update to the official latest Android release (lollipop 5.1 - ROM 10.6.A.0.454) and keep my root, so that Phab7 / Xposed will still work .. or is it impossible to have legacy tablet mode ui on Lollipop ... is there an alternative to Xposed & Pahb7 that works for lollipop ?
I seem to remember that it was possible to update from 4.0 to 4.X and keep root using the OTA updates as long as SuperSU was installed and its binaries updated prior to running the update...
Does this method still work and will Phab7 still work ? ... do i need to do something with Phab7 or Xposed first ?
I tried to find the answers on the forum but couldn't find anything that matched my situation ....
Sorry all but i am about two years out of date with current Android unlock/root methods .... I've been happy with 4.3 so far ....
is it actually worth updating to 5.1 ?, is there a performance hit ?
So many questions ... any suggestion or advice greatly appreciated ...
Cheers
Jay
I'm on a SGP321 (LTE/4G) running 10.7.A.0.222 (LP 5.1.1).
10.7.A.0.228 has just been released, but is still vulnerable to stagefright.
Installing the Xposed framework on LP+ requires you to flash a zip file in recovery. You cannot install it through Android like before.
I'm running v78 sdk22 with Xposed Installer 3.0 alpha 4.
Is your device out of warranty?
If so, I'd recommend you unlock your bootloader to gain access to recovery.
You won't have to deal with losing root, and you can make system backups.
No need to unlock as there are working root exploits. See RootKit's post.
I too was reluctant to upgrade when Sony decided to remove the tablet mode.
I liked the nav bar on the left and notifications on the bottom right.
There was an Xposed module for KK4.4 which enabled the Tablet UI layout for the system called TabletKat. I used that while on KK. (repo.xposed.info/module/org.exalm.tabletkat)
But in Android 5+, they seemed to have totally removed the Tablet UI layout from SystemUI (as described here: ykkfive.blogspot.com.au/2013/11/real-original-xperia-tablet-ui-mode-for.html).
However, there is another module called "Xperia/AOSP NavBar Buttons" (repo.xposed.info/module/com.gzplanet.xposed.xperianavbarbuttons)
which allows you to add margin to the right to reposition the buttons. See attached screenshots.
It does not move the notifications to the bottom right.
Yes, there are ways to keep root but I've never needed to as I have unlocked my bootloader and have recovery.
The methods usually rely on software bugs, which usually get patched. So this may not be doable for LP.
Subjectively, Lollipop feels snappier, but that could just be because I started with a fresh copy of android.
All the root apps I use and most of my Xposed modules work, so I'm happy on 5.1.1.
Regardless, I would recommend you upgrade as there are many security vulnerabilities patched between 4.3 and 5.1.
If and when Sony finally decides to patch Stagefright, you should definitely upgrade.

You can update to 5.1.1 (not .454 as it is Android 5.0.2, but 10.7.A.0.222 or 10.7.A.0.228 firmware versions) via flashing PreRooted firmware via XZDR recovery. (TWRP preferrable) and maintain Root&Recovery&Xposed, but Tablet Kat won't work. Though it's creator promised to adapt it to LP.

Actually yes, the rom is one of the smoothest on device. Also there is a slight performance boost (see Antutu or Quadrant), because of the good optimization.
Xposed and many modules like Gravity Box are working good. So i see no reason to stay on older ROMs like 4.3 or .4.4.x.

By unlocking he will wipe TA partition with DRM keys which is unrecoverable. Furthermore, unlocking bootloader doesn't give you access to recovery cause Sony devices don't have stock recovery like Nexus or Samsung, so he will need to flash recovery to FOTA partition or use kernel with built-in one.
So instead, it's easier and safer to install XZDR recovery on bootloader locked Sony stock rooted ROM.
Also from it you can install Stock PreRooted ROM (like .454 or .222 or whatever you like ROMs), so you will keep root and bootloader locked at the same time.
So, your advice is a bit obsolete.
It's been quite a few years since I've done any installs of Roms etc so could do with some help.
I'm looking to upgrade the os on my rooted note 4 on stock rom to a marshmallow rom however I'm looking into using magisk for a systemless root instead of full access.
I'm considering sticking to a stock touchwiz rom unless there is a good one out there i can use instead. I want to stick with touchwiz specifically as I like the multi window feature and wish to be able to use this on other apps other than the ones created for it.
Firstly is there a way to update to a stock rom or decent touchwiz one without odin.
Secondly if I use a custom rom can I install magisk to it so I can use android pay and pokemon go without it causing issues.
Thirdly what limits are there for systemless root? what folders are blocked from access?
Thanks in advance

i am using S8+ G955FD, i am on android 7.0, fed up with slow UI and bloatwares so i decided to root, i did it with magisk, magisk v16.0 is installed and phone is rooted very well, but now i want to install xposed frameworks as well, but it always goes to bootloop when i flash xposed, i am on stock rom, is this issue, if yes then which custom rom will be best for this phone to use with magisk and xposed working well ?
hoping to get quick response....

Hello.
First I'd like to say that i haven't ever tried anything like rooting my phone or custom roms so that you know what you're dealing with
Lately I've been bored with my s8 plus(SM-G955F). Was even considering buying a different phone but then i remembered reading about rooting and custom roms so i thought i might give it a try.
I've been reading a bit about rooting and roms but all the information and methods can be a little overwhelming for someone like me who doesn't really know what he's doing. Basically i need help.
While looking for custom rom i'd like to try i settled on renovate ice and i have some questions.
Do i need to root before flashing a custom rom or does the rom come rooted already?
From what i understand i have to start with installing TWRP with odin but what then? root or rom?
Basically if anyone would be kind enough to provide some links with steps i need to take to install that rom and root my device and not mess it up i'd be grateful.
In case you need it I'm on the latest OTA i've received.

Hello there , you do not need to root your to flash a custom rom . All you need is to backup your data for you own safety and flash TWRP recovery through Odin probram . Renovate ice is most famous and stable rom you can try . It has same UI as the stock rom . Little changes only you might wont see me . If you want to change UI you should for another rom . Also root comes with the rom inbuild, specificaly renovate ice has two options to chose, magisk or supersu . Personally i prefer Magisk before through this app ' you can' modify your system, its like xposed framework.

So I installed TWRP like in the video.
Everything seemed to work i had a clean install of stock ore with twrp. When i tried to boot into twrp i had the "only official binaries" bootloop. So i flashed a bootloader and i was stuck on galaxy s8+ screen. Went into download mode to flash stock firmware but can't do anything. Stuck in download mode and can't flash anything now... How do i get out of it?
Edit:
Ok. Found a way to flash the bootloader. now I'm back to "only official binaries" bootloop.
Edit 2:
Ok managed to get everything to work. At least it appears so for now.
Had to flash nougat firmware then installed twrp, rom and root and it worked.
I thought something went wrong because it was very laggy but after rebooting it seems okay. We'll see how it goes from here.
Gonna google it and try to fix it but if anyone has any ideas i'd be grateful
