Hey mates! Just wondering if anyone know how to disable automatic brightness dimmings when opening apps such as Chrome, Dialer, etc. in Nougat? I know in EMUI 4.0 I can just set it to performance mode to get ride of it. However, such mode is available in Nougat!! So if anyone know how to do it please share!!!
Here's a solution
This was happening to me as well, I looked in the setting Display -> Sleep, it was set to 30 seconds (by default). Then i set it to 30 minutes and screen hasn't dimmed again.

Root, install Lux :good:
Same thing with Lux as well. It stopped auto dimming at very bright level though. Around 80% or so. I'm still looking around for solution.
Settings - Display - Brightness, make sure to disable the option 'Automatic brightness'. Hope this is helpful for you.
I'm running into an odd issue. My Honor 8 Auto-Brightness is disabled yet the phone keeps adjusting my brightness setting.
Thoughts, ideas?
Any solution for this yet? Surprisingly I've been getting auto dim on Rules of Survival too and performance dropped. Very odd.

Hi, i have a problem with auto brihtness of my xoom.
If i set the display to auto brightness, it increases the brightness when there's more light, but it don't decrease the brightness if there is less light, until i lock and unlock the screen.
I've a 3g xoom with the latest 3.2 firmware.
Is there any solution?
Someone can help me?

I haven't heard of that issue, so I don't know of a solution. Are you completely stock, with no modification?
This is stock behaviour. Simply turn the display off and back on if you want it to re-set the brigtness to a lower value on the stock rom.
Thank u very much for your reply! I thinked that was mine faulty...
For now i solved installing Auto lux, that it's completely customizable(u can set a % of brightness for any kind of external "lux") and works very well.
Is there another way to solve it? Now i tried the tiamat kernel, but without any resutl.
Just got the N4 last week. Loving it so far, but my battery life has been pretty terrible. Trying to find ways to optimize it so it lasts longer (any suggestions welcome!).
I installed the Notification Toggle app, and set one of the toggles to be a brightness toggle. When I use it and set the brightness to, let's say, 10%, the brightness dims down UNTILL i exit the notification toggle/notification shade. The second I go back to another app or the home screen, the brightness goes back up! It usually goes up to 50%, but it looks like 100%. It's so bright!
So, does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Is there something overriding my brightness settings? I know it'll be hard to troubleshoot without knowing what apps/tweaks are installed on my phone, but any idea what could be happening or where I should look?
Thanks!!
Edit: Nevermind! figured it out! I was using a plugin called Notification Toggle, which had 3 options for brightness toggle. I tried lowering/changing the brightness through the display settings, and it stuck, so the problem had to be with the Notification Toggle plugin. I changed the brightness toggle option to a different one, and it worked. So it seems the issue was with the toggle called 'Brightness Menu'.
When I'm in a light room the screen goes brighter but if I walk into a darker room, the screen doesn't dim unless I lock and then unlock the screen.
Anyone else having similar issues?
Yep got the same here. Thought I had a faulty ambient light sensor but obviously not.

Just tried it by covering the light sensor to make sure, no problem here (G935F). My only concern related to brightness is that the s7 just has auto brightness, but no adaptive brightness.
Uncheck the auto box and recheck. Then don't touch the slider. It's usually because in marshmallow the slider moves with the auto bright and most people touch it which makes it hold position.

There seems to be a bug somewhere still. I just tried to move the slider while auto brightness is ticked and to cover the light sensor afterwards again and it still worked and to my surprise it even took into account that I lowered the brightness and took also a lower brightness at the covered state and took my initial setting after uncovering, pretty nice, so there is indeed still adaptive brightness. After ticking und unticking auto it went back taking the default steps for brightness as before.
Having the same issue here
Definately not touched the slider.
Also, I have tested the light sensor and it appears to work fine so definately a software issue. Though I imagine we will see some software updates to fix bugs shortly after the official release date.
So you can adjust the slider with the box checked and get various levels of auto? Does it learn?

Yes.
I can't tell for sure, when I change further steps the previous seems to stick, at least to some extend so there is a logic behind it, but I can't tell for sure if it really is based on each step and sets it accordingly or if it's just changes the range it operates in. Anyways I'm a happy camper.
Also, I could reproduce the device not changing the brightness, when I put it to full at darkness it won't move anymore in auto. But as soon as I lower it again it will also change accordingly again, maybe at those with the stuck brightness the min brightness is only raised, but not lowered anymore, but just an assumption and doesn't help anyone atm unfortunately.
Use lux in play store

This is the first Galaxy phone I had, that Auto brightness actually works the way I like it.
It seems to be working fine now. It just takes a few seconds for the screen to dim (maybe I was being impatient).
After testing it further it's actually really good auto brightness.
It works, just takes some time to adjust to the lighting. Maybe the default settings are set to a certain time. Maybe with root we can adjust this..

It seems to only do it quickly when the device is lay down (as 954wrecker said). Maybe Samsung did that so it doesn't annoy you when using your phone.
this is definitely a bug imo... the auto brightness doesn't change for me either...

I also have an auto briteness issue, when I disable AutoBrite and set it manually about half my apps override the setting and enable AutoBriteness in the app's screen usually dimming the screen? SpadesFree one example and I do not see an override in the app.
Confimed that I'm having same issue, auto brightness not adjusting and slider not movingoing. Have to move it manually
Same issue. It needs to be fixed manually by editing services.jar (root needed)
Nothing else will work. None of google play apps will help with that issue. Does not matter what you do, it will always dimming if you don't fix it in framework.jar
Try it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/auto-brightness-bug-try-fix-t3339858
Adaptive brightness totally stopped working after I upgraded to 8.1. Turning it off/on returns brightness to 16% no matter how I play with the brightness itself, whether while adaptive brightness is on or off. Covering the sensor has zero effect and it used to work pretty well.
Edit: phone is ta-1003
Little update with the incredibly useful reply from Nokia support: (/s)
Welcome to Nokia Mobile Care!
Some time the brightness screen is not working, I understand the inconvenience that you face. it is depend on the sensor and condition, on the all brand phone face this issues. do not worried. you can restart the device. make sure that if you use screen protector for sure this issues exist.
You also can take manual action if disabling enabling take you time. I hope you understand.
Also you can take 3rd apps from play store to try is that working better.

I have the same issue with the auto brightness setting: it goes to 11% and that's it. Not sure if this started after the N 8.1 update.
Where is the ambient light sensor located on the phone?
Has anyone noticed Display keeps flickering when auto brightness is on. Even if phone is kept at a fixed position & same amount of light is exposed to the sensor it still keeps flickering. I mean if I'm watching movie it automatically dems or increases the brightness. please confirm how many user experiencing this problem! as per i know it was not resolved from 301 to till 331 update. is it manufacturing defect particularly with specific variant ?
I wouldn't call it it a flicker. More like the auto-brightness feature is so badly programmed that it doesn't transition from dim to bright and vice versa in a smooth, gradual or dynamic manner, like in older and cheaper phones.
My eyes get a shock every few seconds, trying to adjust to the sudden jumps in screen brightness. It's a real pain.
And yes, the issue has persisted through all the OTA updates without any sign of improvement.
Instead of addressing this most basic and "glaring" issue, Asus seems to be intent on introducing bloatware and EIS for the phone and announce it like it's the second coming.
The latest update was supposed to bring with it, system optimization but I don't see any form of basic optimization, let alone calibration, with the screwy display.
I can only guess at Asus' sense of priorities. Or if they're actually blind and/or stupid.
May be it was true that autobrightness was programmed badly manner it was not transist smoothly from dim to bright. But afterall we are facing it at serious level and uptill now asus has not solved yet. I just want to confirm that How many user experiencing screen flicker issue after enabling auto brightness or it was particularly manufacturing defect with specific varient.
its an autobrightness calibration issue, software update will fix it in future, lets hope so
Hello everybody! I found a bug: brightness is flickering even when "auto brightness" ("adaptive brightness") is disabled. Brightness can encrease for few seconds and then decrease to previous level. I read in some reviews that max pro m1 has adaptive brightness which changes depending on content on the screen. I tried to change a lot of display settings, developer settings, i tried to adjust CABC (Content Adaptive Brightness Control) through Nova Launcher (but later I read that CABC controls only autobrightness), and even hard reset. I flashed custom ROMs but it didn't help. Only Lux Dash app helps avoid this bug. But it is not very comfort to use it and I think there must be desicion on firmware level. Did anybody has this problem and any solution? May be somebody has this issue and found custom ROM without flickering brightness?
Sorry for my English, it's not my first language. And thank you for answers!
