ROM idea [Nougat] - Samsung Galaxy J5 Questions & Answers

Instead of trying to port or build from source a Nougat ROM for the J5... Why not use Cm13 as base ROM, that is pretty stable as it is, and apply over it customisations to the System UI, a modded Settings app, a system using the hidden Multi Window feature but given a better UI to support the framework... Things like this. Also maybe something akin of the Advanced Doze that Nougat has.

[Q] Xposed-like customisation for stock rooted note 4

I had been waiting for my carrier (telstra) to release the lollipop update to my device (SM-N910G) before I rooted, I have now been updated and have rooted my phone, I'm currently still on stock recovery, everything else stock. I am pretty sure Xposed is out of the question for me being on the stock rom, I'm not really interested in installing a custom rom at this stage, is there anything else available that offers the level of customization that Xposed does that will play nice with my phone? Or am I mistaken and xposed should work with my device? I don't really want to stuff around and experiment too much like I have with other devices because I don't want to have to fix it over and over, I'm hoping others have experimented enough to tell me what works. I like the overall functionality of the device, I just wanted to change some things and add to the experience, I would like to be able to customize the Air Command for example, maybe change some status bar icons, change the dpi of some applications, make things a bit snappier, add some missing features, etc, I don't want to lose any of the baked in touchwiz functionality, any suggestions?
Xposed for touchwiz lollipop requires a deodexed ROM which you should be able to find in the development section for your SoC (snapdragon or exynos)
I saw there was an unofficial version of Xposed for touchwiz lollipop but it looked beta and unstable, any more info on that? By the way, is there any downside to a deodexed as opposed to odexed rom?

Yeah, it's CM12.1
I tried that one, pretty stable, although no battery improvement, which seems to be what everyone's looking for.
Xposed works nicely on it, along with greenify, amplify and other modules. Amplify blocked a bunch of wakelocks, but refused to block alarms, can't remember why.

Using f2fs with MIUI

The material themed twrp (i think it is 2.8.7.1) that I'm using has the option to change your partition file systems, and I seem to recall f2fs being better than the standard file system, but I don't know if miui supports it. If it doesn't, are there any miui based roms out there with this capability?

No, MIUI official ROM doesn't support this partition type even you format it to f2fs flashing miui will format it again to ext4. There is no miui based rom out there cause it is too slow and has a lot of bloatware in it. Always use CM and AOSP based ROM if you are a Chinese. Friendly reminder never use MIUI on a 1gb RAM device.:highfive:
Ah, ok thanks. I like the theming feature of miui so I'm using smiui, which I hope is a little better. Wish it was a bit less debloated, but I was getting tired of the plain look of cm and aosp.
If certain cm or aosp based roms had better performance over smiui, I might use them.
if you like MIUI, use MIUI based rom (based on china developer rom), such as xiaomi eu, miui pro, miui hellas, sMiui, MIUI polska.
same feature and stability, all sensors working flawlessly, also the most important battery backup is also good as miui.
but with minor tweaking that will perform better than miui original rom

Creating a new ROM stock-based but without ASUS apps and interface

Hi,
Is it possible to create a ROM based on stock .87, but without ASUS interface (settings, quick settings, lockscreen and such) and ASUS/Zen UI? Something that looks like AOSP/CM, but uses stock kernel and software.
If so, what would I have to do? I've never created a ROM myself, even though I've been using custom ROMs since 2013. Would it be enough just to change the APKs for AOSP ones?
Thanks!
*Creating a new stock-based ROM. Sorry for the English error.

Just use empty stock android and flash gapps (I think there is empty stock room)
AOSP 5.0.2 use stock kernel

Best Custom ROM (6.x) included GraceUX

Hello, I am using Renovate ROM based on Nougat and its really great but I need few xposed tweaks. So I will switch back to Marshmallow. I don't want use older Renovate ROM, because I don't like design of Settings menu and Notification +Shortcuts menu on Marshmallow. Can you recommend me stable 6.x ROM with newest GraceUX?
Thank you
Veronika

You might want to check out " " it comes in both flavors, Marshmallow 6.1 and Nougat 7
It's the very BEST rom which I have found and it's full of mods, tweaks, and rom control.
Besides that @BoBCatRoM makes his own themes & they are truly fantastic.
Bobcatrom's themes actually theme ALL the parts and screens of the phone
including even the icons.
Here is the link to the @BoBCatRoM xda thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/rom-bobcatrom-mm-6-0-1-t3404008
I have been using the bobcatrom for years now and
found none of the other roms are even comparable.
Good luck,
Have a great day!
Thank you for tip, but I would prefer something more conservative.
