Hi,
I have installed Free Advanced Task Killer and i made a shortcut on my homescreen.
Coming from a G1, the task killer was a necessity. But on the G2, its fast so need need to keep killing apps.. however in the interest of saving battery life, I installed it.
I constantly kill between 12-20apps.
What about u guys?

do not use task killers. you will hurt your performance. use an app like autostarts to stop on boot and kill/disable any services after identifying them in the running services tool in settings.
Your not suppose to use a task killer. Android 2.2 has a built in task killer. Your just killing your battery even faster.

I'm killing no apps. With how Android 2.2 works, "killing" the app only restarts it. In a sense, you want to keep your apps running so when you do call them up again, they respond faster, much like a cache. By "killling" it, you reset the service and takes longer to start back up because it's fresh. Froyo will automatically kill apps that are idling if it doesn't have enough resources to put through a requested task.
The only thing related to that that I'm using is WatchDog Lite, and that only informs me of what's being used and alerts me if an app is acting abnormal (I.e using up a lot of CPU on non-normal standards)
Besides, the G2 has a lot of processing power and RAM to be using, so I wouldn't be so conservative about it. It knows what its doing.

Try autokiller from the market, that way the core android taskilling system will be more aggressive.

Killing 0 apps
I have used Taskiller since the G1 on Android 1.0 and there is simply no need for it on the G2. Really there is no need for a task killer on most phones on 2.1 or 2.2. I did use Taskiller to kill applications that I did not use ( Tmoile my Account, stocks, etc) on the Mytouch Slide. I only closed those apps after a fresh boot and then let the phone handle app management from there. With the G2 running a clean Vanilla android build I don't see the need. I had Taskiller installed originally when I first got the G2 but uninstalled it since I was not using it.
i had a task killer when i first got the phone but delete it after i noticed that instead of killing the apps i was actually killing my battery!
I know how to "force stop" running applications, but is there a way to close all running applications at once? I get tired of checking the weather, KNOWING I pressed "exit" and yet still see that stupid app running in the background. It's annoying especially when you've got 3 or 4 things that never close (Silk, weather channel, amazon video)
I hate having apps run in the background. (Besides the ones required to be on, of course)
Use a task manager, like Gemini App Manager.
Thanks, Gemini is even available on the Amazon app store. I'll give it a whirl tonight.
I think these apps running in the background are killing my battery life. I used to get 2 days without a charge, now I've gotta charge it every day.

Wow. I do use mine heavily for games, videos, etc but I'm hoping that with this app it'll help. Alternatively maybe something like JuiceDefender might help?
i use go launcher - in the app drawer you can switch to 'running apps' and tap on 'close all'. but it seems some apps are a kind of service - they start again ...
And if so: is it working for you? And what apps are greenified on your nexus?

Yes.
Yes.
Maps is a big one. It likes to run in the background and eat up battery.
im using, its working, and most my apps are greenified, besides a few root apps. i dont use notifications for any app besides gtalk and gmail, so i greenify all that i can. i also use an app called autostarts, which works well in conjunction with greenify
ya
I still don't know it's purpose.
Yolo
I can't get facebook message notifications even though I ungreenified them
I used to use it. Among the apps I Greenified were:
1. Facebook
2. Maps
3. ESPN Scorecenter
Although I found that WhatsApp and Viber woke my device quite often, I use them all the time so it didn't make sense to include them in the list.
In terms of effect, it did reduce battery consumption some. But then I figured I'd just be a responsible user and sparingly install apps and turn off notifications altogether if I didn't really need them (or use bookmarks to mobile web versions instead). If you really need all your apps, then Greenify is a safe choice.

The concept of turning off notifications altogether is good only of the app is properly written for it. For example Facebook.... Even if you turn off all notifications whatsoever it still creates wakeups.

Correct. Which is why I now use m.facebook.com instead. The Facebook app is a really terrible battery drainer.
I see maps waking up the phone quite often. But will Google now still work if you greenify maps?

Hi
my P8 automatically kills apps that are running for longer than one hour. For example if I use Google Maps Navigation, or Runkeeper to track my runs.
In settings i have 'Performance' selected in the Power Savings Menu, I added Google Maps, Runkeeper, etc. to the protected apps and i don't have any third party app for battery saving, task killing or something like that. I also locked the app in the app switcher by swiping down on it, so that the lock icon appears.
Nevertheless after running for just over an hour this morning, Runkeeper was killed anyway.
Does anybody have the same problem and knows a solution?
Thanks
anarki

Hi, try Settings>serach: optimalization (ignore app optimalisation or something like that) and select what apps you dont want to be killed, maybe it helps

There is no solution. every phone with EMUI works like that. It's intentional to save battery (that's what they say). I heard they fixed it in EMUI 5 (which is closer to stock Android) but P8 is not going to get it. If you really need those apps you have no choice - change your phone.

no true, if you need some app to work in deep sleep, you just have to allow it in manager and disable its optimalization, then it wont be killed
there is an option in settings..called protected apps on or off

It will be killed but after a slightly longer period of time. No app will last more than 3 hours in the memory. That's how EMUI works.

what version of rom are you using? i have Gratitude V5, gmail works during all night, no problem what so ever, messenger works too even if i selected it to be killed and optimized by system, only thing you have to do is to convert it to system app
Stock B382. It's better than on B200 - before it was killing all apps instantly when the screen was off.

That's not true, I have a number of apps that run in the background and don't get killed. Tasker, Light Flow, Doggcatcher, Gmail, K9mail...
I'm on latest Gratitude and was in the Fromfuture ROMs before.
This is a shot of all the apps I was able to disable on my Verizon g6. With no negative results it's truly not much but without root don't know what else could get rid of that wouldn't hurt anything
Yes I have some disabled to but Greenify just allows you to add apps that you want to use but don't want them to run in the background, like music, camera, maps, Facebook, Twitter, etc. They only run when you open them and are shut down again a minute or so after the phone goes into sleep mode when the screen turns off.

That's great but I'm not truly doing it for batter life I've been doing it for performance. Shutting the app down actually would make the phone slower I believe since when you relaunch the app it's not just pulling it from background it had to truly start all over. Just my thoughts. I never kill my background apps unless one is acting up
You want to make it snappier turn off animation scaling at dev options then turn on gpu rendering.

Yeah done that for last 5 years. Thanks. I put it at .5 and use nova launcher with faster than light seething for no annotation
