Just got a new S7E and wanted root as I had on my Note 4 so I could run Titanium backup, adAway, etc. So, I rooted and have had nothing but problems. Laggy, play store would fail to run, hang on tmobile screen when rebooting, and VR complains about overheating after only 10 minutes or so. Had to flash back to stock and re-root twice already (in just a few weeks). Pain the in butt to keep setting it up after each failure.
I see on the forums that many said rooting it just wasn't worth it. I am tending to agree, so now looking for advice on how best to mimic root capabilities that I am loosing.
What can do my backups since I can't use Titanium Backup?
What is best ad blocker?
How do I disable all the TMobile crap/bloa?
What apps should I disable (and which shouldn't I touch)?
I use Nova launcher and that still works fine so I am good there, and guess I can I now try/use Samsung and Android Pay so am willing to give it a shot if I can find working alternatives.
Looking forward to your suggestions.
TIA,
Peedoe

Well I don't know about you but I flashed the u firmware then rooted that and did the fixes (lspeed, sefix, set cpu governor to interactive) and the lag has went from a pain in the ass to minimal if any from my experience. And that's also with xposed installed.
With the PI3 U firmware I haven't had any lag at all, except for when it is plugged in charging. I also use the t-mobile PK1 modem. That's without any of the fixes listed in the above post.

By U firmware, do you mean the firmware for the 935U instead of for the 935T? Will that having any issues on TMobile? Also, you mention PK1 modem and other response mentioned several other fixes. How are all of those installed and where would I get them? Via ODIN as that is all I am familiar with? When you used the U firmware, did you flash all the modules or just the AP?
I just now noticed that my wi-fi calling option is missing now that I flashed just the AP from stock firmware so it would boot again (PK1 version for 935T). If I flash all modules from the stock, I have to completely re-setup my phone.
If I can reliably have root, I would still prefer root, but not with all the problems and if I have to stay stock, still looking for full backup as I have a multitude of app settings I don't want to have to redo if I can't restore from TB.

CP.
Ad blocking by disconnect (Google it for download) not perfect but not bad either. Also ad hell works too. Ad guard or ad clear work but seem to affect battery considerably more than the others.
Good Lock from galaxy app store gives some customization options. Still learning this app.
Nova launcher... My favorite.
Super swiftkey for keyboard (again my favorite)

I flashed all of U except CP where I used the T version APK1 file. However, I still seem to be missing the Wi-Fi calling settings/icon and my Wi-Fi and data icons are stacked whereas they were separate before. How do I get the Wi-Fi calling back? I used T Mobile versions for both sets of files.

You're recommending to Odin Flash all parts of the U (G935UUEU4API3 -?) firmware except the CP modem and instead use the APK1 CP instead? Does anyone have the Android Files for said U version?

IPTV or torrent tv, normally plays through mx player ?. Was a bug, half of the screen black

That firmware is just for the UK, which I believe went to NI1 last fall about a month before the U.S. went to NK1.
I don't know that I'd read a lot into it. If anything, they could be getting UK firmware better aligned with other locations for a smoother universal upgrade to 5.
Edit: Okay, looks like it's indeed out now for the U.S., too. Still hoping it's progress towards a Lollipop upgrade.
So does anyone actually know what changes this update brought? I was having some issues with my tab pro 8.4 missing touches, i 1st noticed it during gaming but was able to replicate it with display tester multitouch test.
It seems to be fine now, i thought for sure it was a hardware defect but now I'm not so sure. Anyone else in a similar position as me?
Hey there
I m downloading it, but not sure i will apply it .. does it makes root going byebye ? Wanna stay with my device rooted !

Just finished updating and was very disappointed that it's still 4.4.2, I didnt check this forum beforehand so was hoping for a nice surprise.
I hope we see official 5.0 for our devices...
Still. Nothing here! Will we ever get lollipop?

I'm in the process of trying to line up everything to do this. My update that pushed through took me to T320UEU1AOC1. I haven't located the extracted US kernel file for that and unfortunately don't know how to pull it from my current build. Sammobile has an AOC1 file noted as Cellular South and the build time is same date as mine but different timestamp. Anyone know if that would work to get me back to my current build and keep my US region?

Could you put the steps I need in order to what you did here?
I have the Romanian version of the updated ROM on a T325.
The biggest issue I have noticed is with the light sensor, with the previous ROM the auto setting worked smoothly, now with the new ROM the screen doesn't fade continuously. Whenever I turn on the screen the brightness just switches from a higher to a lower setting or inversely (without smooth fading and with lag), also the screen flickers horribly when it detects a change so I can't use the auto anymore.
The second issue is with the Samsung keyboard with learning disabled, in a Facebook floating chat window I tried to respond to someone and the keyboard would auto complete with empty words and after every word I had to delete the word before to be able to write the next word. I had to re-enable the learning to get rid of this very annoying problem.
I will try to downgrade to the previous ROM and root it with towelroot and say goodbye to any future official Samsung updates. Samsung has the ****tiest update developers, actually I had the same problem with the auto light setting (but not so serious) with the ROM which was before the good one.
By the way, if Lollipop comes DON'T UPGRADE. Lollipop on S5 sucks bigtime, the phone has major issues, android eats more battery than the screen.
Stick with the previous ROM, for me it was the most flawless one. I might try a cache wipe on the current ROM but I doubt it has anything to do with the screen flickering.

After losing root when I took the T320UEU1AOC1 update, I was able to flash the T320 kernel in this thread then use Towelroot again. I did have to reboot, even though it told me I wouldn't need to. I uninstalled and reinstalled SuperSU (hit cancel when I got the SuperSU notice about Knox) and verified root with Root Checker Basic. Then installed the AOC1 kernel. I still have root and Knox is not tripped. (KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0x0; KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x0)
It seems a new update is about to roll out. The build is BG1.
Maybe just a security patch containing update, but the thing is, the odin TAR is available already.

I rooted using a custom script someone made in the att thread. It fixed the cpu frequencie issues and adjusted each governor of the small and big clusters. So far so good with only minot hiccups once in a while. I haven't noticed much of a difference with the pg1 firmware if any. If you need help rooting check out the att forum or i can help when i get back home.
if we are already rooted on PD8, can we just flash this ontop of PD8 and retain root? What about user data?
I got this update on 2 S7's and on both of them, I now have cellular data issues. Wifi calling will keep giving me a notice that my phone is going to use wifi for calls when the feature is set to prefer Cellular for calls. Rebooting doesn't help, it will eventually say it again. I have to keep turning off wifi to force the message away. And during browsing on cellular, it drops a lot even though I know I have great coverage where I use it. With 2 phones, and only have this update, I think something is wrong with this firmware.

I haven't had any issues, everything works fine. Here go down till you find generic galaxy s7 after root process and flash the zip he made via Flashfire. See if that helps. Did you factory reset after rooting btw?
I am not rooted. I just saw this Firmware thread and figured this was a good place to talk about my issue related to this firmware. I will update my previous post to show no rooting. All stock.

A factory reset should fix it, this happened to me as well.
I bought G935FD from Amazon 3 weeks ago- it's unlocked and carrier-free. I've been using it out of the box, no root. Some parts of the box was typed in Arabic indicating it's from/for UAE.
I live in US and have been using MetroPCS (uses T-mobile network). It seems to work flawlessly.
1. Will I get OTA updates? I doubt MetroPCS will do it for this international version from UAE.
2. If above is no, what's the best way to get the latest updates / how do I know my phone has the latest version?
3. What are CSC and PDA?
4. I came across this link: Which country is best for me living in US? Should I continue to use the stock UAE it came with? Any advantage for other countries? (some countries get latest updates faster?)
As for updating FW- a step-by-step guide is appreciated. I've been reading up, and it involves using Odin, but there seems to be tons of different country/region versions for G935FD- and I get concerned about bricking my phone or messing it up.
So many questions.

1. You should get OTA updates. They will come from Samsung and not your carrier.
3. CSC is your region and or carrier code that identifies your Samsung firmware.
4. OJV may not update as often as the other UAE firmware (XSG). A lot of Americans run XSG or Spanish AMO. If ya need help. You can PM me and I'll help get ya sorted.

1. So why XSG or AMO for G935FD users in US over hundreds of other countries? What's makes those two compatible? If I use other countries, what happens to the phone?
2. Which one do you use?
3. This is bit of a different topic, does your phone suffer from Media Server battery drain? Mine does and that's what prompted me to update my phone hoping there's a fix out (deleting/backing up pics help, but it reoccurs)

Most people use those firmwares over others because they support Samsung pay. I personally use AMO because it has the add benefit of wifi calling and and white pages. As for the battery drain issue. You shouldn't be having that issue. I know I don't experience that issue with AMO. It could be a problem that was fixed in a later patch.

That's the correct one. Since you're switching firmwares use the AMO_CSC file rather than the Home_CSC file. That way it'll wipe your phone clean. Make sure youve got security PIN setup because you'll be asked for it after reset. Other than that. Just follow the instructions and it'll be smooth sailing.

Thanks. I'm learning a lot here. Getting ready to do it now. More Qs:
1. So with AMO, I can now use Samsung Pay? Is this the correct version for my phone? I presume this is not available on Google Play because it bypasses Samsung bloat if done through the phone? (if so, I need to manually update this app as new versions get released?)
2. Will wifi calling also work too as MetroPCS supports too right? (it did for my previous phone on MetroPCS)
3. This G935F firmware should work flawlessly despite my phone being G935FD right? I think I read this, just making sure.
4. How does whitepages work- AMO comes with it or do I need to download White Pages app?

You'll need to install the Samsung pay framework and Samsung pay app in that order from APK mirror website. Just read the description for the app before you download to be sure its the US version and it's compatible with the frame work. In order to make white pages work you'll need to enable it from the Phone app settings. G935F works with FD.

Hi guys
I am using a T Mobile unlocked S7 edge with Ufone network which got OTA and upgraded to G935TUVU4BQG5 (see attached), this obviously has a lot of T Mobile bloatware. Also i have rooted it with SU.
I have read good things about G935U firmware, can i flash the latest firmware G935UUES4BQG1 on my existing one?
If yes, how should i go about this? Thanks in advance

Here is what I do:
1. when I ODIN I grab the BL, AP, and CSC from the SM-G935U and I grab the CP from the SM-G935T. I have never had a problem when new versions of each come out.

https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7-edge/SM-G935U/TMB/ here you go
if you cannot download from there then just install https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=889764386195920328 which is the one before latest, then get ota (around 200MB) to upgrade to latest
I downloaded from the second link and it wasn't tmobile based U firmware but Sprint. So proceed with caution there. I had to download from the sammobile link but download speeds were quite slow without premium membership. Working good so far. :good:

So, right now, I have SM-G935T BQH7 ROM. (It sux - my streaming video apps are hanging badly).
So, I would like to try out SM-G935U BQH3 ROM. (Hopefully without resetting the phone).
So, you would take BL, AP from BQH3 and CP from BQH7 and if I use HOME_CSC, I should not have to re-install everything and T-mobile wifi calling should work, correct?
Just want to confirm before going ahead with it.
Thank you.

So, IF I were to use non home one.
Then, it is ALL the files from 935U except for CP and use CP from latest T-mobile version? (BQH7 in this case)?
Thanks.

I got them from updato.com
I put BQH7 and reset to factory using non-home CSC. When I did not use non-home CSC for any other version than BQH7, the system will freeze and generally performance wasn't good. When I went BACK to previous version of the T-mobile rom without reset, the whole thing started to crash badly so came back to BQH7.
That said, it did NOT fix my issue with streaming videos.
I am going to just flash 935U version.
935U BL/AP and I will use CP file from 935T BQH7, then non-home CSC from 935U and cross my fingers and hope for the best.

doing a fresh firmware install and re installing all apps again would be a better idea to get that new phone feeling
install syncios on pc and backup all your apps and data, then flash the yummy G935U firmware, then install everything with one click with syncios NO PAINS
good lucks

That tool does not appear to be free.
Is there free tool to do this?
I would not mind being able to back up all the apps (with data)..
Thanks.

LATEST FROM SAMMOBILES AND WHEN DONE IT KEEPS REBOOTING IFOLOOWED YOUR flashed with HOME_CSC, i tried again with the CSC XAME ISSUES PLZ SOME HELP ME WITH THIS
Is G930AUCS4BQE1 (May 24/25 2017) the latest SMG930A firmware?
I'm on a factory-provisioned SMG930V (Verizon) and and looking for the latest U(nlocked) and A(T&T) firmware, to try them each out and see how they play.
Also related, as I understand it, the 5th letter from the right ("4" in the above example) indicates the bootloader version, which cannot be downgraded. Is that correct? i.e. I couldn't go to G930AUCS2APH1, which has v2 of the bootloader?
Thanks.
You are correct about the bootloaders, and the most recent OTA for ATT is QH1 from August. But we should be seeing Sept leak soon, and hopefully beta 7.1 as the Note8 is suposidly shipping with 7.1
As far as the U firmware goes, I personally dont keep up with that as I didnt want to give up videocalling/volte and cannot do without wificalling.

Thank you very much.. I need to do some more research on U vs. A firmware, it seems. one of my big pet peeves is the carrier bloat. Has your AT&T phone got much bloat?
Also, regarding wificalling, am I correct to presume that it's integrated with the phone itself, and not just another form of something like the Google Hangouts Dialer?
My phone has all the bloat froze or disabled, so its managable. You can search on here for a debloating app or script.
as for wifi calling, its cooked into the rom, but no one has been successful in getting it to actually function on ATT.

I came across this, which suggests there are fixes/patches that can be used (and one person insinuating they've done so) to get wifi calling operable on the U firmware:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68011352&postcount=36
I've got a couple of debloat scripts in my S7 folder; just prepping the final path of whether I to A or U firmware... I've heard that the U firmware should be (carrier) bloat-free, but no wifi; I'm using a V model on AT&T so the AT&T would be useful, but I"d need to deal with carrier bloat.
Have you found that OTAs still work properly, after freezing or disabling bloatware, or have you had any adverse impacts to functionality?
mine works fine no issues. And that thread is for verizon's wifi calling which is different from ATT. It would also require root.

Actually, it's in the Verizon section, but it's about taking a Verizon model to Unlocked firmware.
If you are on the U firmware, flash S7_or_S7Edge_Fixes_Debloater_V15.zip then Verizon_VVM_Volte_Wifi_Calling_G935U_Fix.zip
Note: I realize it says G935U, but it works on the G930U firmware as well.

Didn't catch the reference to root, I'll continue to dig.
Cheers.
