Galaxy S7 Edge bricked after attempting to update to nougat - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

when updating to nougat through odin, did not realize that my phone only had less than a gigabyte in its storage. due to this lack of storage, my phone is now stuck in the `an error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software`.
I tried using smart switch but it did not work.
Is it possible to erase all the data in my phone so i can update it with no issues?

I don't think the lack of storage is the cause! Because system has its specific storage.
Make sure that firmware is the right one for your phone. Otherwise if you want to erase all the data you can simply tick the option "Nand erase all" in odin.
Other way to erase data is to go in recovery mode and wipe data/factory reset

What firmware package did you use? And for what model?

Sounds like it disconnected half way through update. Try again.

Exactly this. Wish people would stop talking about bricked phones when it's simply needing a reflash!

Riso123 not every smartphone owner is an advanced user so to the average user seeing your phone not doing anything is a scary thing, specially when said phone costs over £600 so cut the guy/lady some slack bud...
As for original poster I've had similar problems before just google the key configuration needed to the a hard reset, for example volume down and power at same time.
This should get it rebooting and if not then doing a flash through Odin should work then...
Good luck

brick means no power no screen no responce. Exactly like a brick. You just have a firmware error. Now you learnt something new today.

Fixed it
Used another pc and installed marshmallow and for some reason it worked! Sorry guys for my lack of android knowledge and thx for the help

Bricked means bricked = nonrecoverable AKA toast.

[Q] Possibly Bricked? Need Help ASAP!!

Well, today I tried setting up ClockworksMod so I could easily backup and restore my phone as needed. (As previous work i had caused issues and it wouldnt reboot until i reinstalled the rom)
Well, clockworkmod recovery would not install through the app, so I installed the image through Odin, and that worked flawlessly. I was able to backup and restore.
After it booted back up I was unable to add a new google account or erase the old one. Factory resetting it would casue it to get stuck in the boot loop again, until i restored it or reflashed.
Eventually I tried flashing another image, with repartition turned on.
Well, without surprise Windows 7 semi crashed and killed Odin.
Now when my phone "turns on" all i see is black. Nothing happens. I cant do any of the 3 button combos to get into Recovery or Download mode
Can anybody help me? I need to get this working ASAP!
Thanks
Edit : I need to check my eyes. I thought you can get into download mode.
If you cannot get to download mode with the 3-button-combo then you'll need a jig.

Uhm, why did you check repartition?
Also yes, you will need a jig. That's pretty much the only thing that can get you into download mode in this situation.

Okay, going to just order one off ebay.
Will this do? hxxp://cgi.ebay.com/Samsung-i9100-Galaxy-S-II-Download-mode-USB-Dongle-Jig-/250824932406?pt=AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item3a6654bc36
But actually, it says it has to show one of those two screens, when mine is all black?

Yes I did, was that something I shouldn't have done?
It sat on repartitioning for about 15 minutes, then windoes said Odin stopped responding and it killed it :/
I've been telling everybody to stop using the .pit files and repartitioning the device for every flash as you're just increasing the possibilities of things going wrong but people don't seem to take notice. Sadly in your case something did go wrong. You only need to use the .pit files and repartition the device if you mess up your partition table.
Those guys at Samfirmware really need to stop telling people to repartition their device for every flash.

Once my Jig comes in, I'll let you all know how it goes!
check if the phone heatens up extremely as soon as you put the battery in. if yes, thats a really bad sign.
a jig will only help you if you see anything on the screen. if the phone/screen doesn't react to ANYTHING, that's a full brick (happened to me too, jig didn't help, nothing helped, phone was completely dead and i had to send it in. fortunately, they repaired it within warranty).

See, this is what I was trying to say! I read everywhere that if somethign is on the screen the Jig will work, otherwise it wont. Others are replying to me here saying it should still work for me
I'm not too worried about it. I have 4 of the phones. I work closely with Samsung and they were given to me. It would still be nice if it recovers, so we will see!
i guess in situations where it was reported to work under these conditions the owners didnt fully exploit all different possibilites to get it back on and so they just came up with this false assumption.
nonetheless, it's worth a try. at least, the jig is pretty useful to remove the yellow exklamation mark and to reset the flash counter .

I'm not saying it will work for sure, what I'm saying is depending on the damage done it may still get you into download mode so you can flash the firmware.

to be precise, it's the "custom binary counter" which counts up as soon as you flash something modified manually on your phone. has nothing to do with your problem, though.
We need to find the way to boot the device externally, i.e. bootloader on ext. SDCard or the likes....

Hi, I need to complete brick my note 4 n910f. Already install 4 files kk and lollipop firmware and don't help me. I've random reboots and now always reboots.

Try rooting your phone and flashing (via custom recovery) a kernel meant for another phone. That's how I hard bricked my old LG phone. I wasn't paying attention and somehow managed to flash a kernel meant for a Huawei phone. No clue how I managed to do it exactly, but it resulted in the phone not booting up, me unable to access recovery or bootloader (download mode for Samsung devices), and my computer recognizing my phone as some unknown device.
I ended up bringing it into an ATT store and playing dumb. Like, "I don't know what happened, but my phone just started randomly rebooting and then just stopped starting up all together! Woe is me!"

Firstly you SHOULD NOT be flashing your phone or tripping knox with what you have posted. If you have constant reboots etc you should try fix it or work with samsung. You should not try brick your phone because you want Samsung to replace it.
However if you know how to flash etc you should know it is easy to brick a phone, just kill the bootloader!
here is no chances to brick to death end your device. Believe me. It better to install for you correct everything from the beginning. Mean , stock rom, root, and do whatever you want.
I've continously reboots. I know how to flash with ODIN. I tried lot of firmwares for my n910f. Tried with 4 files firmware and always get a reboots. Sometime I can't get into Recovery because the phones reboots. I can get always into Download mode, but nothing more.
I don't know how to kill the bootloader, can you PM me with instructions? I alreay tried to put a pit file from other variant, and also tried other variant firmware and phone refuse to install it because before install phone check if is for it or not, so I can't brick my phone.
Cheers.
Do you want to brick your phone because it continuously reboots itself?
Have you tried to select "Nand Erase All" in ODIN? I personally never used that option; but, because you want to brick your phone, maybe you can try it (maybe with an official firmware or TWRP in the pda button) and MAYBE it will even solve your problems or MAYBE will brick your phone.
If you'll try it, please, report back!
Sorry for posting my Q here
But I really want to know is there any option in Note 4 , so that the notification sound will not come from speaker when Handsfree are attached.
Thank You

P8 LITE in bootlop with update at 0%

I tried several times to update P8 LITE to 6.0 by placing the firmware in a dload folder on the internal storage card it never worked it just says update failed.I looked for several firmwares none of them worked my build version was ALE-L21C432B199.I found one post that said rename the update.app to update.zip and install the firmware.I did that and it started the local update from internal storage and it restarted at 0% [email protected]#ng me in the a#@s and ruining my phone.
The phone got stuck in a bootloop of constant updating and failing at 0%..I tried to go with power+volume up and all the other versions it did nothing.I then conected it to fastboot for a reflash with minimal ADB+fastboot it could not flash **** because it had a locked bootloader it says phone locked in green letters.I cant unlock the bootloader when it's bricked because i don't know the Serial and IMEI for the unlock code procedure.I dont know i should even try unlocking since it's under warranty.I read all the posts i tried the sd card update but i seams that it's set on constantly failing that first update over and over again.Non removable battery makes it even more annoying. This is a simple thing that can be solved with a simple flash that i did on countless Sony and Samsung phones even with their pc suite. But this HI suite is worthless and does not support P8 LITE system recovery !!! so Im stuck in this hell for a simple bootloop.Huawei has no Flashtool or Odin so and no flashmode only fastboot mode that can't be accessed, this makes it even more idiotic.I highly doubt anyone can fix this
Update.app is required name of update package and the IMEI and product ID should be on box of your phone.

I don't have a box never had it in the first place.Update.app by sd card will not work i have a couple of update apps downloaded i could extract the files needed for a reflash with Huawei extract but it can't be done without an unlocked bootloader.LIke i said i don't necessarily want to unlock the bootloader if it kills my warranty i bought the sh$#y Huawei because it had warranty not because i liked it.

I said in the first post that i tried that it does not work, the HI Suite does not support Huawei P8 lite for system recovery it is useless.I urge people to read the first post and then give a solution if they have one. This is a large problem for any P8 lite owner we don't need several pages of useless replies that just clutter's the thread.I"m trying to make it simple for the next poor fool that tries to upgrade his phone to Marshmallow and get's fu#@$ed because nobody warned him. After i fix this i will never touch another android system or root or even consider flashing anything these new phones are a nightmare.

I think I bricked my Android phone, is this normal?

I attempted to root my phone (Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge) following this guide here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039
After this step "Still in Odin, click 'Start' to flash the engineer-rooted boot image and reboot the phone."
My phone just hangs on a white screen with the AT&T logo in the middle. Its been like this for over 5 mins and I'm not sure if this is normal or I should wait longer.
I did a restart by holding power and volume down and it still gets stuck on that screen. What can I do from here?
Did you follow the guide to the T?
What version of ODIN did you try? The PrinceComesy version, or the regular one? Did you try again using the other version?
Note: most people use the PrinceComsy version, but some AT&T users said the other version will prevent bootloop/stuck AT&T logo.

I tried the PrinceComesy version, I tried to use the first one but it wouldnt open for some strange reason. I'll try that first Odin, I have a S7 Edge and I downloaded the 2nd one like I was suppose to. I honestly dont know what part I fell short on.
Everytime I try to open that first version of Oudin, some popup in Korean shows up then it closes instantly.
If I cant fix this am I gonna have to do a factory restore? I unfortunately did not make a backup beforehand.
My phone is still in a brick like state for the last 3 hours, is there any way to recover from this if I dont have a backup?

Download your original or latest firmware using samfirm on the s7 edge threads and flash all 4 parts but use Home_csc file. This won't erase you're data and help you unbrick. You can then start again on rooting.

From the same rooting topic There is stock firmware for Android phones, since I own a Galaxy S7 Edge I downloaded the (ATT_G935AUCS2APF2.zip (MD5 hash BB4904F9D6E730F23AE0DC727AC87752) (AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge))

Looks like you've got no choice but to flash it then mate. I have a G935F so have two in our firmwares sometimes. At least it means a working device once flashed.
---------- Post added at 06:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:55 AM ----------
Have you tried booting into recovery? Hold power, home and volume up or if not possible then use volume down as you would boot into download mode but when phone resets quickly slide your finger onto volume up and hold until into recovery. Clear cache and reboot.

I tried what you said and recovery mode definitely works. However I wipe the cache partition then did a reset and I still get stuck on the AT&T screen. Where would I get that home csc file in the first place, was it suppose to be among those folders with all the other models and carriers and mine is just the unlucky one that doesn't have it?
Any other ideas before I take the plunge and wipe my phone?
did you perform a hash/md5 check before you flashed? also verified size was IDENTICAL?

That's the cache wipe option done. Because you have the ATT version then you would only have one csc file. G935F has multi csc files for multiple regions so we usually have two. Take the plunge just to have a working device. Recovering your device hopefully.
I don't think you bricked, but certainly you flashed either the wrong firmware for your device, a corrupt download\firmware or you removed the phone prior to the flash completing, which could be due to faulty cable.
I would download a stock firmware and make 100% site is for your device. Make sure it's the right size and then flash ensuring your cable between the phone and PC is in good working order as well as the USB port on the PC.

Alright so I'm gonna make a backup so I dont start from square one again (I was without a phone for a whole day)
When I restored my phone using that "stock" firmware I noticed something odd when it boots up, it says "samsung galaxy S7 Edge custom" and shows a lock thats unlocked.
Anyways if I'm unable to open that first Odin (korean pop-up and immediate shut down) and that prince version is not good with AT&T phones what other choice does that leave me to root my phone?
I'm gonna take my phone to best buy and have it restored. The restoration from here is weird and is giving security issues, not to mention my wifi doesnt ever seem to save for some strange reason.

Last time I reset my phone it took forever to reset. Try redoing the process but give it plenty of time. Also, don't worry about it heating up.
If you had any message saved on the phone you won't be able to view it after a reset.
Try taking these precautions next time you reinstall firmware:
Make sure you have the right firmware for your country code (it's usually on a sticker on the box or when you go in download mode: power+volume up+bixby)
Make sure you have the latest Samsung Drivers for Mobile installed on your pc, this usually leads to bootloops if not installed before flashing
Ensure you have the original cable that came with the box connected as it has information that's not found on other wires
Make sure you have the most recent version of Odin. I recommend uninstalling anything you have on your pc and reinstalling the files from the beginning so nothing mixes up
These really helped when I got MY phone stuck in a bootloop...twice...
It happened after only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed. but got someone a s8 backup?
