[Official EMUI 5] Bug discussion - Honor 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

We got the official EMUI 5 on Nougat for Honor 8 distributed officially. This thread hopefully serve to list all the bugs encountered for the official release of EMUI 5.
My routine after receiving an update is to start fresh with a factory reset. The OTA update went fine and the device was running great. However after backing up everything to google and Hisuite and doing a factory reset i found a bug
During the initial phone setup after reset, i was able to connect to my wifi and login to my google account. Then the option page between choosing restore from backup and set up as new phone i tried restoring from backup. The phone failed to connect to my google account. It cited no internet connection. I tried using my mobile data and my internet from Mifi device without success. I ended up choosing setup new device and i found all my internet connection is running fine.
I tried factory reset a few times including going to recovery clearing th cache and factory reset. This is a stock device. No custom recovery or unlocked boot loader.

I found that i cant kill aplications when screen is looked and as well with aplications that draining my battery to much.

Badge app icon for Gmail app is missing. Nothing against huawei email app but i prefer gmail app.

thanks, time to factory reset

Can't use SD card as internal storage and I could on the beta.
Now SD card is seen as portable storage.
Phone feels very quick and battery is lasting much longer

I backed up my phone also with google and i restored it successfully. My SD Card is also my internal storage. Do you guys downgraded your phone to MM before installing N?

Than i connect phone to pc with usb cable no notification for it select the storage
Ok easy fix just enabled hdb and than disable it again and now its showing everytime than i connect

Requests and/or bugs:
1) GUI / Settings to Disk that shows & allows setting of encryption, including user password/pin different than actual password.
a) in lieu of this, it should work with the $vdc commands from adb shell or terminal emulator
2) GUI / settings : Adoptable storage interface and ability for the OS (Just like plain android 7, 6, 7.1) to show the actual "pseudo-internal" storage and however your decided to subdivide your sdcard (ext). Apps should go to the least full of the int or ext SD.
3) Release your source code (the hostage crisis should be over by now). You've done nothing to help development yet. There isn't even a TWRP that works with Nougat encrypted. Get the blobs as needed by devs out there. It's starting to look like you just lied about being interested in the development scene.
4) Notifications on lockscreen (I think that's enough to say).
5) Don't even bother to put in settings that don't work or work correctly. There are many of those.
It's a start

I find an annoying bug in b360 is what follows: when you click on a three dotted menu of an app like WhatsApp, earlier you could just drag you finger on the page below the menu to exit it and at the same time use the page, now you have to do one tap to exit and then you can use the page. It's a step more and it's annoying.
Sometimes expanding and shrinking the notifications of a media player gives strange results, like dimensions not optimised or stuck on fading animation.
When you click on three dotted menu of an app in the PlayStore, it leaves a grey mark above the menu. Of course, as I said earlier, to exit the little menu you have to do a single tap outside it, otherwise you cannot simply begin using the page below to make the menu disappear from itself.
Please Honor quickly release an update to fix these bugs. Oh, and I agree with who said that your promise to collaborate with developers is starting to sound like a lie. I come from honor 7 and honor 6, but won't buy the next if you don't get things right with Honor 8.

Huawei's own backup app doesn't work on EMUI 5. I am used to titanium backup but on EMUI 4.1, using the built-in backup and restore app for data, apps, call logs etc was very convenient. However on EMUI 5, this app can't be downloaded from the Play Store too as it's target API is upto MM only.

I have some bugs
First With the WiFi, I have a router belkin with 2.4 and 5 ghz bands and when I connect to anyone I can't connect to the other, i need to forgot to connect to the other one or connect to 5 ghz band and go far when the 5 ghz don't appear and connect to the 2.4 ghz doing that I can connect to the two bands.
The other bug it's with the option to get down the notification bar with the finger, sometimes won't work I need to go to the settings and work again.
The other bug it's with the battery saver option to low resolution to 720p wont work.
And finally, in my case the adb USB debugging don't work, in my computer show me offline and in the phone don't appear the window to allow permission

1) SmartKey gesture, swipe down to show notification panel doesn't work sometimes. Workaround is to not use the SmartKey once and then it starts working again.
2) Stock message app. Replying from lockscreen is buggy. Sometimes it opens the app and sometimes not. When it does open the app, and type your reply from the keyboard, it doesn't register it. Workaround is to hide the keyboard and type again.

I can confirm the wifi bug. It took a long time to happen (which is why it was probably missed during testing) but at some point during the night it disconnected, and I had to restart to be able to reconnect.

Other bug I have in beta and now in official it's some music files when I use stock music app play with no sound, but use vlc and play well all music

Windows 10 Experience

So now that people are upgrading to the release of Win 10, I'm curious about your experience.
For me, it's a smooth OS with a lot of things I need to get used to but I have made some discoveries.
The task bar - on my main monitor won't auto hide. A search tells me this has been a bug for the last few technical releases. Oddly enough, all of a sudden, a few minutes ago, it started to work but I assume this will stop in the next reboot.
The Mail App totally sucks. No number of new emails in each account when you click on accounts. No view for all accounts. No using mouse/shift to select multiple messages. No Check boxes to select all messages in any folder. New incoming messages show up in the action center, only, but you have to open it to see them. Not getting desktop notifications.
Cortana looks like it could be good but setup has been a pain since for some reason my Microsoft LifeCam Cinema HD cam can barely hear my voice, even with level up all the way.
Camera App - totally doesn't open at all. I had to d/l a third party app which I don't like.
Settings page is tough to find things like Advanced Settings. That's WAS, oddly, in System/About but now it;s gone and replaced by other shortcuts. so setting the paging file size manually, etc is just gone for now.
Edge is the best browser yet by MS, but it's not going to get me to stop using Chrome
What are everyone else's thoughts so far?
It's nearly perfect. Drivers catched up, not a single incompatible program, major performance boost in games after installing the latest Nvidia driver. The only bug I've seen so far - Action Center's tray icon is lit on on system startup even though it's empty.
I'm recommending it to everyone I know, I've already installed it on 3 PCs I have access to. It's just 10/10.
Upgrade??
First, so far I like Windows 10 a whole lot better than Windows 8.1, but the upgrade has been a nightmare.
The upgrade on my AlienWare (Dell) laptop went smooth. No problems at all. The upgrade for my Surface Pro 3 (Microsoft) has been anything but smooth. Microsoft's own computer did not upgrade right. First, it installed Windows 10 Home even though the Windows 8.1 that was on it was the Pro version. It also wiped out all of my installed programs and apps. I didn't lose any data but the applications will all have to be reinstalled.
Mine won't even install on my Asus Transformer. Says Key cannot be verified....
If you are still having problems and difficulties upgrading your PC to windows 10, kindly follow this post on my website. A few clean up steps got my Dell system to upgrade to Windows 10 http://www.selftechgenius.com/how-to-geek-2/how-to-upgrade-to-windows-10-for-free/
OK, so here's a big one. I use my 500GB D:\ drive to store documents, downloads, pictures and videos by default. I tried to save a picture off the web to the pictures folder and got access denied error.
So I looked properties, security and noticed 2 things. 1, the folder was marked as read only and 2, there was and Unknown User account. I deleted that account, and changed the properties on both C: and D: drives and that fixed it but you should all go check to see if you have the same thing.
I'm thinking I'm going to get a 1 TB HDD backup to put all my personal things on, format both drives, then do a clean install. I've always hated doing OS upgrades on top of older releases and the few bugs I have, like the camera app not working or the VIA HD Deck app not opening are the reason why. I just have to wait for all my hardware devices to release Win 10 drivers
I wasn't a fan of Windows 10. Immediately after "upgrading" the track pad on my laptop didn't work properly anymore. Based on my research it's a driver issue with no solution until the driver is updated. Who knows when that will be.... I use my laptop a lot for school and can't afford to wait.
Microsoft also removed basic tools like paint with no good replacements in the app store. I also didn't like how it pretty much turned my laptop into a phone by calling the Control Panel "settings" and having an app store and stupid stuff like that. I went back to Windows 7 after less than an hour on Windows 10 and couldn't be happier.
I did like the UI, though. It kinda reminded me of the material design of Android 5.x with the flat colors and stuff.
I am very happy with win 10, got it on my Desktop and my Tablet and even though i had some touchscreen issues in the beginning it works well now on both devices
I did a clean install on my laptop, as opposed to the update on my desktop, and it's better. Cortana works right, etc.
My ONLY beef is the mail app sucks
I upgraded my Lenovo to Windows 10 with the media creation tool but after a week or so decided to do a clean install to get rid of the terrible bloat(though most of it I removed when I got the laptop).
I downloaded the ISO and CLEARLY remember choosing 64bit Home Single Language. But after I diakpart the drive and reinstall the OS I realize that I have a 32 bit version installed.
And my 15GB limit of "high" speed broadband is exhausted and I CANNOT download a 4 gig file on a 512 Kbps connection.
I'm stuck till next month or till my friend gives me the 64 bit ISO.
But its completely my fault, so guys BEWARE, don't make stupid mistakes!!!!
But I like the OS(mostly). After disabling Microsoft's sneaky data collection and automatic updates its all good. Don't forget to disable live tiles cause they hog bandwidth too.
But boot speed is faster, performance is better and multiple desktops and snapping is great!
[Moto E 2nd Gen 3G running CyanogenMod 12.1]
I don't like Windows 10 at all. It sucks on Tablet(Touch) and PC/Laptop. With StartIsBack++ you can fix Win10 a bit for mouse/keyboard, but the UI is still cluttered and ugly as hell.
Really?? I don;t have that problem at all, especially when doing a clean install
My upgrade went well.. But afterwards it was a nightmare. It took my DAYS and about 14 reboots just to get it unfrozen long enough to open task manager with ctrl+alt+delete. Then, suddenly, after a reboot, it worked. It is now even faster than 8.1 (although I sometimes need to use task manager to speed it up). All of my programs and files work.. Except for cam studio which didn't work on 8.1 either. [emoji13]

I totally agree with Mail app sucks. I sent some emails but sent items folder is still empty, not syncing.. And honestly, I don't like the settings app because eventually it forwards you to the control panel for lots of settings. So what's the meaning of this setting app, right?

Right. I just pinned Control Panel to Start so i can get right to it
I have Windows 10 pro. Whenever I try to connect to my pc using various remote desktop apps on my android, it gets connected for a moment and then it shows error message that someone else is connected to your pc please try later.
Any suggestions?

I did a fresh install, I like it, just that there's no direct access to the computer from the start bar, I managed to pin 'this pc' to it, but It wasn't good enough.
I added the start menu back from Stardock Start10.
fresh w10pro install here on an hp elitebook. no issues at all.
On Acer fresh update, no problems
I updated my Toshiba Satellite to Windows 10 and it runs smooth. There's only an annoying thing. Sometimes when I turn on the PC and log in it says that Cortana and Start Menu aren't working, so I must have to turn off and to solve this problem temporarily I have to press Shift while it turns on. But some days after it happens again.

Marshmallow OTA Rolls Out to Verizon-branded N6's

I received build MRA58R today via official OTA. Device is unmolested (bootloader never unlocked). It was 702 MB and everything went very smoothly. The device is really snappy--I'm a happy big red customer!
Nice explanation of Marshmallow new features:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/google-nexus-6-update/
Here's the text from the link posted above.
Google Nexus 6 Software Update
[Updates]
Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update for your device. This software update has been tested to help optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches.
Before you download:
Connect your device to a Wi-Fi network, or make sure it has a strong Verizon Wireless network connection.
Ensure your battery is fully charged before starting the software update.
Current Software Update Benefits
Software Version: MRA58R
Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update for your Nexus 6. Android™ 6.0 Marshmallow improves your mobile experience with new battery-smart features and enhanced app permissions that give you even more control.
Now On Tap: spot-on answers, fast
Now on Tap, a new feature powered by Google™, helps you stay on task by instantly pulling up relevant information, like driving directions and restaurant reservations, letting you get more done.
A battery that works smarter, not harder
Android Marshmallow's new battery features help your device retain its charge longer.
Doze: When your device is at rest, Doze automatically puts it into a sleep state, but will still allow all your alarms, notifications and calls to ring through.
App Standby: Your seldom-used apps will go into App Standby in order to conserve battery power for the apps you use more often. If an app hasn't been used for several days, its power consumption is reduced to zero. Apps will come out of App Standby immediately once you interact with them.
New app permissions
You now have specific control over what info you share - no more all-or-nothing access. Android Marshmallow lets you define what you want to share and when.
Simplified app permissions
Permission requested only when relevant
User controls to turn on/off any permission, at any time
Link apps without a prompt
Android has always let apps register themselves to handle web URL links. With the new app links feature, the transitions between apps are even more seamless. The platform can determine the default app to use for a particular web link and skip prompting users to select an app.
For example, clicking a LinkedIn connection request in an email could automatically launch the installed LinkedIn app to complete the action, instead of showing the user a disambiguation dialog or launching a web browser.
Direct Share
The Direct Share feature lets users share content directly to targets, such as contacts, within other apps. Previously when sharing content via the Share menu, the user would have to go through a two-step process. First, choose the destination app and then choose the target, such as particular contacts, within the destination app. But apps can now define direct share targets that launch a specific activity that is directly exposed to the user via the Share menu.
For example, the direct share target might launch an activity in another social network app, which lets the user share content directly to a specific friend or community in that app.
Text selection & text editing
Selecting text is easier in Android Marshmallow, with word-by-word forward selection and character-by-character backward selection for increased precision.
After you select the text, actions such as Copy, Share, and Search are shown in a floating toolbar above the selection. When you use an external keyboard to edit, you can use Ctrl-z and Shift-Ctrl-z to undo and redo changes.
Easier device migration with Auto backup for apps
When apps are installed on a new device or an existing device that's been factory reset, they automatically retain previously associated user data. Account information, settings, game scores, and even the layout of the launcher are restored. Default app settings, sync settings, and keyboards are also automatically backed up and restored on new devices.
Simple notifications and volume control
Android Marshmallow adds a Do Not Disturb feature (formerly Priority) with improvements to the design, including:
None/Priority/All are now activated with simple on/off switch.
Clearer options such as Total Silence, Alarms only and Priority.
More precise control of Priority modes, such as for repeat callers, and also by notification category, and starred contacts.
Additional rules flexibility, including those based upon events or with a custom duration.
Each sound stream can now be individually controlled.
Peeking Notification (formerly Heads-up Notification)
Has smoother animations and the ability to configure the behavior of each app.
Next steps and additional links:
Please allow additional time for the apps on your device to continue to download after the software update.

Ditto... 27R here, as well.
Can anyone let me know if they now are able to use the voicemail icon in the dialer after this update? I dont have this on pure nexus, but a friend with a nexus 6 that just took the OTA says it appears now
The voicemail icon in the dialer (it's actually in "recents") says my VM box is empty. The Verizon visual VM correctly shows what's in my inbox. All messages predate installation of Marshmallow (MRA58R). I'll test to see what a new message does and advise.
Result: VM in recents still shows empty. Verizon visual VM apparently overrides it (IOW, they don't both work). Does the VM in recents work OK on Verizon for non-Verizon Nexus 6's?

"Features" missing from MM, after update.

I've updated from KK to MM (Note 4 f version).
I seem to have lost certain features from the "upgrade"
1. Can anyone recommend a multi window app, that wound allow me to add custom apps to the supported app list. So I can use them in multi windows?
I've used this in the past https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bjbinc.mwmphone but it says I need to be rooted. Which I am.
I don't think it's compatible with MM.
2. Is there a do not disturb mode within MM, that allows you to block mobile data between certain times?
I used to use it in KK, to block data through the night, but, MM's version just seems to block sounds etc.
3. When using KK, apps like Clean Master, used to allow me to block apps from secretly starting up and allow me to clear cache/junk.
Since updating to MM, Clean Master and other apps I've tried all fail to do either.
They appear to clear the cache/junk, but if I reboot it's still there.
(At the moment I'm using "App Settings" via Xposed to block app start ups).
4. Is there a way of unlocking the phone from off, using the fingerprint scanner?
At the moment, I have to use a password (not pattern) and then use the scanner from sleep.
The Samsung Tab S2, allows a pattern or password from off and then the scanner from sleep.
5. The handwriting to text converter in S-Note as been removed in MM.
Thanks for any help.
Reply to your 2nd question :
Download a app called 'profile scheduler +' from google playstore and install it. Edit the normal profile according to your needs. Then edit any other profile and give it DND as the name. Configure the various settings for DND profile and save it. Then create a new rule. Set the activation and deactivation time. Set the rule type as scheduler. Save it. Make sure that the new rule is prefixed with the green symbol in tasks list of the profile scheduler + app. If you like, purchase the pro version which will come without ads. It is cheaper too. Enjoy.
Reply to your 3rd question :
Download and purchase (to disable the in app ads) app cache cleaner pro app from the google playstore. Configure it so that the app which uses maximum cache space is shown first (size descending order). Just make the app to manually scan for temp / cache files.
"Go to the individual app properties in the settings --> application manager (in android 6.0.1) and tap on storage. Then choose clear cache"
Do as said (in double quotes) for each and every app.
What to do man?. Google is removing all essential features :
Android 4.3 - Access to flight mode by all third party apps is disabled
Android 4.4 and its sub versions - Write access to the memory card by all third party apps (lile x-plore, es file manager, bookmarksb pro, app backup and restore pro etc) was also blocked
Android 5.0.1 - battery draining quickly
Android 6.0.1 - Disabled all third party apps to access the bookmarks of the stock browser. Because of this, the facility to import the bookmarks (from the stock browser) to the android firefox is also missing in the firefox settings under android 6.0.

I've just tried the app, but I can't make it switch off mobile data at a scheduled time.
If I do other things within the same rule, like switch on WiFi, switch off BT and increase brightness, they all work.
So I know I've created and activated the rule.
For #1, you can use Firefds Kit xposed module.
For #4, you can use No Lock Home xposed module (but only works when connected to wifi).

Awesome, thank you.
Firefds Kit, is a million times better than the current version of Wanam i.e. most things work on MM.
I've not tried the other one, I don't leave WiFi on.
Have you also lost notification previews by any chance? I'm unclear as to whether this is just me or the same for everyone.

I see the settings, but can't trigger to stop Mobile Data. The others, like WiFi can be triggered.
I've also installed Tasker and Secure Settings, to try and alter Mobile Data.
But, Secure Settings (which I think is needed to alter things like Mobile Data & GPS), says I need to root the device.
I think the problem with apps like Clean Master, Cache Cleaner Pro, Profile Scheduler, Tasker and Secure Settings, they all need root access to alter system permissions.
I've got root, but they aren't triggering Super SU to allow root and so those apps think I'm not rooted. And don't work properly.
Clean Master and Cache Cleaner Pro, appear to clear the cache, but they don't delete anything.
Maybe the problem of not seeing root, is something in MM or maybe it's because I'm using the latest beta version of Super SU?

Yes, I see the menu on my phone too. Except I've altered the Mobile Data to off and there's an empty circle to the right of the screen.

I have done that.
Off = empty circle
No change = yellow circle
On = green circle
As a test, I've set Mobile Data to off and WiFi to On, within the same rule, to trigger at a set time.
When I run the test, the WiFi switches on, but there's no change with the Mobile Data.
I've a different question, if you wouldn't mind answering:
Is it possible to configure a long press of the recent apps to show the multi/split window screen, instead of the wallpaper/widgets/home screen settings screen (like when you long on the home screen)?
When I do the above on the tablet, I see the multi/split window screen.
I think mobile data is indirectly controlled by android restriction. I didn't use that restriction. If you want to cascade view a app, just rub the display with a single finger from top right to the bottom left.

No it's not the cascade view.
I see this type of multi window screen on my Tab S2, when I long press the recent apps button.

You may have to root via system-mode rooting not system-less rooting. Some apps like Tasker's Secure Settings doesn't work with system-less rooting.
There are SuperSu versions that uses system-mode rooting. But you also need a permissive kernel like Xceed and H-Vitamin in order to properly install the system-mode rooting.
But I think even after successfully rooting your device, third party apps cannot still turn off the mobile data. You can only put it to airplane mode at specified times to disable mobile data.

I switched off mine, charged it up to 100%, put it away from the charger untouched for 1 day, restart the watch and had 100% battery.

I don't have any charge issues. Just limited functionality. And I haven't had any luck transferring files via Bluetooth. I can link the watch to my Samsung S8 phone, share a file via Bluetooth from the phone, but the transfer always fails. I don't know if it's me, the phone or the watch.

Did you accept the file transfer at the watch? You have to pull down the notification area and have to accept the file transfer.

It won't run on my Samsung Galaxy S8 either.
I hope someone figures out how to install the Google Play Store app on the watch. Aptoide is difficult to use for me.
Also, I noticed that when installing an app, the Install and Cancel buttons are almost not visible at the bottom of the screen. Is there a way to scroll/drag the screen?
Many of the icons are too small for my fingers. Is there a small stylus available anywhere that works with the watch? I installed Chrome so a stylus would help with using that as well.

There are new Versions of the Apps, for watch and Phone. Take a look at
my Postst #2, give them a try. For me it's working now.
Hello Backers,
The first software update is now available and it focuses on the data transfer between the watch and your smartphone app. For those that were having issues with the app and data transfer we’ve updated the software to allow for a better experience for transferring photos from the watch to your phone.
Cloud update services are not available at this time but please follow these simple instructions to update your watch:
1. Enable Bluetooth on smartwatch & phone.
2. Connect them with eachother.
3. Enable the installation from unknown source on your watch. (settings > security > unknown source)
4. Download http://arrowsmartwatch.ml/ on your computer.
5. Once the APK is on your computer, share it via Bluetooth to your Arrow Smartwatch. (if you don’t know, just google how to share files with Bluetooth, it’s very easy)
6. Once you’ve pressed the sharing button, you’ll have to accept the file on your watch.

This watch update was tested by a few beta testers within the backer community with good results. It should allow many of you that were having trouble to start transferring photos and videos from the watch to your phone. The next planned update will focuses on connectivity, apps and notifications.
As for the remaining Arrow inventory we continue to wait for Chinese customs to give us an answer on the status of our units. They said Chinese New Year would create a delay of up to a month or two so we will post an additional update soon outlining the details of this extremely frustrating and prolonged ordeal. Our goal remains to ship all remaining units to backers as soon as this custom issue is cleared.
Inquiries about the above can be sent to [email protected] as this is our primary contact method.

Thanks! Is this a new version of the OS? Or a customized version?
Hii! Not sure if people are still using the watch.. I took it out last week and again remembered why I packed it back. The battery drain is just insane!
Was anyone able to get a different OS version installed on the watch,,? Is it even possible? What are this risks?
What are my options to experiment?

Minimal Android OS for Note 4 Audio & Video?

Am thinking about using a Note 4 for Audio and Video only (no phone or Internet).
Hope someone else has tried this and has some suggestions concerning reducing Android OS to minimum.
Also instead of reducing the Android OS if it would be better to use a 3rd party ROM?

If you're not interested in internet, yet want reliable audio and video, maybe try old kk roms that are optimized or some lollipop aosp roms. That way the software is at its lightest.
QuoPrimum Thanks for the tips!
Forgot to add that I am new to Android but have been using Windows for a while.
For Windows there are a number of ways to remove unnecessary parts
1. preformed like Micro XP v0.82
2. make your own using nLite
Anything like this for Android?
Also have been searching for a description what each Android file does like Black Viper does for Windows. Windows Services Information http://www.blackviper.com/windows-services/
Hope someone knows about an Android (or even Linux) info similar to this.

You could disable/freeze apps with titanium backup or using adb.
QuoPrimum Thanks for the suggestion "You could disable/freeze apps with titanium backup or using adb."
Checked "Titanium Backup User’s Guide" https://www.titaniumtrack.com/kb/titanium-backup-kb/titanium-backup-user-guide.html Was especially interested in 7. Manage Applications List of apps Tapping the “Backup/Restore” button brings you to the application list – or rather the list of available “items”. Here you can see which applications and settings are available on your phone, and what has already been backed up (the symbols to the right tell you the latter – hit your phones menu button and select “Legend” for details on what they mean). Tapping an application brings up a popup from which you can select actions to be taken with the selected item: You can e.g. run an application, back it up, restore it (or its settings). You also may also decide to un-install the application – even if it is a system app! But with the latter, you should be very careful: Remove the wrong thing, and your phone may start malfunctioning. Which is why you should first try whether it’s safe to remove that system application. This can be done by “freezing” it.
Clarification: What type of information is available when select legend.
Also do you know of a beginners guide for Android OS services?

I don't know of any specific guides, but if you look around xda, there should be a few debloating guides for roms.
