Issue with Joying Sound - Android Head-Units

Hi all. I purchased this Joying device - JY-UL135N2 2GB Unit ( https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M670UWI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) a week ago, and installed it yesterday. Overall the unit is performing OK, but I am having an issue with the sound FX coming from apps. I can hear sound from the radio, from phone calls, from apps such as TuneIn and Google Play Music - but I can not hear any sounds coming from Google Search (ie the "OK Google" acknowledgment sound) or Google Maps (voice navigation).
I tried installing the latest version of the system update here - https://www.carjoying.com/Joying-blog/59.html - and it did not fix my problem. I tried goofing around in the settings and installing volume control apps from Google Play, but nothing I do seems to allow me to hear sounds from non-media apps, while media apps work fine. It is really strange to be because I have been using Android forever and a day, and from my experience all of these things should be in the same volume group (media).
Does anyone have any ideas here? I contacted Joying but since it is the middle of Chinese New Year they have an auto-reply that they won't be answering emails until February.

Update with dec 8 update. This has solved my google sound issue.

I already applied the January update. Do I need to apply both? They don't roll them up?

Just to eliminate it, I rolled back to Dec 8 update. Still no sound in any of the Google branded text to speech apps. I have sound in seemingly every other app, except google ones - this includes other text to speech apps like Sygic and other assistant apps... Only Google. Now, Google Maps, and Android Auto have no sound.

Bluetooth Volume Very Low in Waze & Google Maps

Any1 having this issue where the spoken turn by turn direction sound via GMaps & Waze over a car's speaker is very muted?
Can't say for sure if it was with 7.1.1 related update(s) or with the early January Google Maps or Late December Waze update.
I know that some Nexus users had 7.1.1 Bluetooth connectivity issues but I hadn't heard about the volume being an issue.
I've checked all my volume related systems settings & the referenced apps' volume settings.
But everything looks like it should be in terms of volume levels & when to come on (always).
Streaming music/radio via other apps & the BT phone works as expected for both sound & performance.
Any ideas?
UPDATE
Found some conversation surrounding this on a Waze forum.
Basically, it has to do with the BT audio level sometimes being attenuated to a lower level for no apparent reason.
It's some sort of bug but not sure if Android or BT or map oriented.
The workaround is to turn up the volume using the phone's volume rocker button while in Waze or GMaps app.
Then close down the app & reopen. It should work automajically the next time the app is used.

Android Updates (Nougat included) SpeechRecognizer doesn't mute audio for dictation

Recently I did the Nougat update on my Droid Turbo 2 and now I have a problem when doing speech to text in my car. Previously when I hit the microphone button you would hear the "beep" and then the car audio would mute until you were finished dictating. Now when I push the button I hear the "beep" but my music will crank back up and keep playing, making speech recognition impossible without muting the audio manually.
I looked all over my settings to see if anything changed.... nothing. As part of this update my Play Music app and Google Keyboard were updated. Couldn't find anything in those settings either.
Any help would be awesome. Thanks!

Xtrons PB86UNVP issues - Google maps & audio quality

Hi,
After some advice on here I bought an Xtrons PB86UNVP, which I'm pretty happy with for the most part. There a just a couple of kinks I'd like to work out. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it!
First - Google maps crashes with "system ui has stopped". This only happens if navigation is running, but the Google Maps app is not currently on screen and a navigation instruction is given (e.g. "turn right"). If Google Maps is on-screen at the time, it's fine. I did update Google maps from the Play store, so maybe that introduced the issue? I would prefer to fix though rather than downgrade the app!
Second - Bluetooth and radio both have a distortion to the sound quality. The same distortion isn't there for audio played via Google Play Music on the unit itself.
I went into the developer settings menu and found what look like input levels and adjusted them, but no joy...
Also the sound sometimes drops out on Bluetooth. Can anyone help with that?
I think I have sidestepped the Google Maps problem by switching to Here WeGo maps. I'm also planning on giving TomTom Go a whirl.
Would still like to hear about potential fixes for the distortion on radio & bluetooth.

New Apps

Hello, new to forum. I tried searching but I have several questions that I can’t quite pinpoint so decided to just ask.
Recently purchased a cheap Android head unit off eBay for my suburban. Immediately after install I was disappointed and frustrated trying to figure everything out, but now I’m thinking it’s not user error but more of a software issue or a settings issue I’m not familiar with.
I’ll get straight to it.
Once installed I had no sound through Bluetooth, usb, or any installed app (YouTube, Apple Music, etc).
I found that the radio app did work, and after tinkering with some settings I got Bluetooth working (not sure what I did, think I was in the equalizer car settings). Well the next day I drove it for the first time and after a few minutes sound went out again. Switched to radio and works fine. So I did a full factory reset, and now it’s really screwy.
Now, Bluetooth only plays if I open the radio app. Radio does not work at all, the app opens and acts frozen, but if I hit play on my phone I get my music. If I open the Bluetooth app, sound cuts off. Music still shows playing on my phone, and when i reopen the radio app it pauses on the phone, I hit play and sound comes back. Still no sound through YouTube or any other music source, BUT voice turn by turn works through google maps.
I’ve tried doing a factory reset multiple times now (yes the full reset).
I tried downloading a new launcher, started with the carwebguru which resulted for some reason music only playing when the radio app was open, if I went back to the home screen or changed apps sound cut out. So I deleted it and downloaded FCC and it’s back to the way it was, Bluetooth plays through the radio app, and I can now switch back to other apps and music continues playing until I reopen another app that plays sound.
So, does this sound like this is a settings issue, hardware issue, or app issue? If it’s an app issue, what are some good apps to replace them with? I see a ton of fm radio apps but not sure if they’ll work, not really any Bluetooth apps, and I use Apple Music on my iPhone and have it downloaded on the stereo (although it doesn’t have sound, either).
Thanks!
Update. After playing around with some settings, I’m feel like I’m getting somewhere but not fixing the issue.
I went under the factory settings from car settings. Radio settings were set to NXP6851 and I changed it to FM Inside.
After doing so, the radio app works flawless but Bluetooth no longer plays through the radio app. Still no sound from YouTube or Apple Music.
So I set it back to the NXP6851 and sure enough, radio app is frozen and Bluetooth plays from my phone through the radio app.
I made a test phone call and Bluetooth works, but only through the radio app. If I open the Bluetooth app all sounds shut off.
Now, after playing around with it, I found that I can get the internal apps to play sound if I do the following: open radio, play music through my phone, back to home screen and open an app (Apple Music is what I used) and hit the play button. It stopped the music from my phone and started playing through the app!
I was excited as all hell, but it only played for maybe 5 minutes then the sound shut off again. Cleared all apps and sure enough, again the same process let me play music through the apps but only produce sound for a few minutes (not even one song).
Still messing with it. Anybody have any advice?
Thanks!
Figured it out. Not sure why but there’s an app called “mode” with two arrows in a circle. Hit it once and now everything works as it should. If i hit it again it goes back to just the radio working.

Head unit audio problem

Hi, I just got a android head unit and can't figure if it's something wrong or just a setting I can't find.
When I have an audio app running, like radio or music, and then start a nav app(specifically OSAMD) everything is fine. The music plays while nav is working. The problem is when the nav app interupts the audio with voice alerts, the music audio never comes back on. Have to go to the music app and audio comes back the switch back to the nav app. On next alert it does it all over again.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
Hi again,
Can no one help with this?
Nobody else have this problem?
what's the Unit, What's the Nav app and are you using Android Auto or Carplay or Native App? If this is AA/CP this is normal when using Native Music. If this is all Native I suggest to try switching to a different Nav App and see if it makes a difference.
I can tell you on mine Waze and Goggle Maps will properly interrupt then return to music with both spotify and VLC.
AA/CP does exactly what you described, unless you play music through AA/CP.
This is the first one I have had. It's from amazon the brand says Podofo. It's android 9.1
I'm using Osamd navagation app. They say the app should return the music but it does not. Not sure what AA/CP is, maybe android auto. I'm not using that just the built in launcher and tried a couple other launchers with no luck. I'll try google or waze and see if they are any different.
