PL6 installed on my phone this morning, and ever since I've had a mysterious battery drain. Even when on a Samsung fast charger, it drains faster than it can charge. The last time this happened, it was an Oculus GearVR update that caused it[1]. Anybody know what it is this time?

i would suggest factory resetting the device. this has happened to alot of people and a sd card format (then copy your stuff back minus android -SD card only) then insert card reset go through all the bull but im hearing it runs almost as good as the OG firmware PB5 (im still on PB5 2 to 3 days battery every charge)
goodluck

Also i notice some laggy too . Not just battery drain
Sent from my SM-G935P using XDA Free mobile app
Gets laggy, and bad battery life for me also. Sometimes it gets to the point it is unusable, even after shutdown and clear cache. Seems that if you reboot because of lag, you can't use it right away otherwise the lagginess continues. I have a Ventra app for monthly train ticket on my device and there is some security, and purchased tickets are stored locally. I guess I'll have to wait to do a reset when my monthly ticket expires. I thought this update was for Nougat, otherwise I wouldn't have updated. Anybody hear if this version is rootable? So far it seems not from what I've read.
My battery drain issues continue. I got a new message today though ... phone got so hot that I got the popup saying that only calls and messaging would function because of the temperature. This phone is a POS.

I am really hoping so. My average battery life with 40 mins screen on time is about 6 hours until 10% with no rogue apps or nonsense draining the battery.

Hi
This morning 26th on my note I had an OTA notification. Since I had no Wifi, I cancelled it. Now, when I do a manual check, it says 'no updates available'. I already have 4.04 (XXLRG) from an update a couple of weeks ago so it wasn't that.
Any idea what it might have been?
Hoping for some Jelly Bean soon since I like it on my N7.

Omg. Seriously hoping this is foreshadowing the release of jellybean for the note...
Come on Sammy!!
Most likely not jb but to remove search the phone capability

Pah!, it was just XXLRK, 4.04. It installed a load of rubbish without asking (all German due to CSC setting).

Installing that much (really, any!) crapware along with updates is not cool...
But give me Jelly Bean quickly and I'll forgive you, Samsung.
So. Anyone know if this update fixed the battery problem many have? And fixed the issue of bricking the phone when hard reset?

Now now....can't use this without "value added software" because your user experience won't be as good
I got this update yesterday. However I can't find the apps mantioned here. It only said "Improved performance". I don't know what they mean. I have had the problems with the battery. I had to either pull the battery for a minute or two, or I had to switch on power saving mode right after charging and leave it on for some minutes before turning off powersaving. I had to do this every time I charged the phone, or else it would not go into deep sleep. It would stay on 200MHz, and drain the battery in a matter of hours.
However, this morning I saw (using CPU Spy) that the phone had charged all night using 200MHz (this might be normal. I don't know this). I tryed to just pull the charger, without doing the steps mentioned above. And i see now, a couple of hours later, that the phone has gone into deep sleep since I pulled the charger.
It might be too early to draw conclutions on this, but it looks promising so far.
I have found no info about the update yesterday. I hope its possible to hard reset the phone without bricking it now, but I don't know.
I will keep monitoring the phone, and let you know.

IIRC the phone doesn't charge during deep sleep, so clocked at 200 while charging should be normal.

That is normal and always was.
After you pull the charger it takes few minutes and the note goes into deep sleep.

I explained badly I think. I have used the CPU Spy for some time now, and i have seen that the cpu use 200MHz when it charging. Good to know this is normal. The big difference this morning was that when I took the phone off the charger, it went into deep sleep. It hasn't done that for a long time. Before the update, it went on using 200MHz after charging, when it was supposed to go into deep sleep. The only thing I could do to get it into deep sleep, was to pull the battery og use battery saver for a few mins.
I just hope they have fixed the brick problem when doing a hard reset too!

Kinda hopeless imo. Anyways, the battery still works good after update :good:
Kitkat killed battery life. Used to be great, now it sucks.

KitKat didn't kill battery life. Mine is about the same as it was before KitKat. In about 99.999% of the time an app is to blame. I have a simple but arduous method to find the app that's killing your battery.
I agree the battery has taken a hit. I used to ave about 9hrs of screen on time, now about 6hrs. I also have the chromecast issue. Strange thing is that sometimes the screen doesnt even show up In the battery stats. Sometimes the usage time doesnt change when it shows in battery stats. I am stock, 32gb white US model updated with Kies. I have done many factory resets. I have tried it for 2 days without installing any apps or disabling any samsung bloat, with no change in the tablest behavior.

Kitkat sent my note into fits. Battery life was terribly erratic at first. Dropping 30% in an hour, then suddenly jumping back up by 10%.
I tried factory reset.... nothing changed. Then I used the Battery Callibration app from playstore. Ran it and followed instructions exactly. (Waited til it was charged 100%, then run the program, then completely drain battery, then let it charge continuously back up to 100%).
Go figure............ since then things have calmed down and I am getting the same battery life as on my old Jellybeans note. (I know, because I've got two of these tablets and literally compared them side by side.)
Or, it could also be that after firmware upgrade things need a bit of time to settle down. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I am used to android taking a bit to settle in. After my note 3 updated, it seems like it took a month to get back to my "normal". I hope the tablet does too, just frustrating in the mean time
Mine settled down after about 3 days and several resets. Now the battery seems comparable to pre-KitKat.
I don't think it is kit Kat. I'm running kit Kat and easily see 9 hours of screen on. It is most likely an app you have installed that is doing it.

Then not everyone would then mention that it is not change or improved (in stand-by).
No, normally a app or bad file on the sd-card is killing here the battery. All tools to find this out, are already mentioned here. Good luck.
4.4 in and of itself isn't causing poorer battery life. In fact, owners of other devices are reporting improvements. The Exynos N3 for example. There aren't any battery life issue threads on the Pro forums and they have the same h/w and we're most likely using their 4.4 drivers and kernel. There are threads like this in every device forum when an Android version upgrade is released. It's almost always due to a bad flash or a rogue app or service. That and older apps that haven't been updated in ions and aren't playing well with the new OS. People here have reported shorter charging time and longer battery life. So what's being discussed isn't universal. I'd suggest doing a stock recovery and reviewing older apps and those that aren't developed by known and larger developers.
I have a Shield and S4 too. For every poster raving, there seems an opposite view on battery life and the SD card issue.
The SD issue makes battery life debates moot. Google has an Apple wannabe syndrome. Perhaps they will rebrand as Goople.
You can recalibrate the battery by running it down below 20% then recharging. I have seen it recommended to do this every 30 days or so.
My Note 3 with KitKat started using 20-30% of the battery at night while it was idle. Looked and looked and couldn't find a clue to the problem. Decided to reboot, the next night it was fine, used maybe 2-3%

I did have charging problem and battery drain right after KK update. I have to do the Factory Data Reset. Luckily my tablet is back to normal if not better. I did spend sometime go thru all setting. So I managed to get 4 hrs of screen time with moderate use and I still have about 59% of battery.

I updated a couple days ago and since then my battery just sucks. It just went from 100% to 29% in 2 hours just using Youtube. It can't be right. Definitely it's the upgrade!!
I loved my Note 10.1 2014 out the box that I decided not to root. So it's factory stock and suck very bad.

You didn't ask a question so I presume you'd like to revert this update...?
If so, grab FlashTool, install its drivers, and find an FTF of an older update, then flash it. It does not void your warranty and it does not harm your device.
Same problem here, specially when the screen is off.

Yes, I meant that, and then the second option "phone characteristic" or something like that, then you see how many times the phone crashed and what processes are involved

I too am having terriblr battery drain after updating to 23.0.1.A.5.77, I've tried everything; Factory Reset, Flashing back to previous builds. All to no avail.
I've installed Gsam Battery monitor and it tells me that 'Android System' is constantly draining and is at the top of the list.......
I really dont know what to do.
haven't noticed anything different really after the update. the battery life seems the same
I noticed battery drains on my Z3 after the .77 update so I did a clean reflash and after letting it settle in for a few days the battery is back to performing awesomely
I heard such battery issues and still went ahead to see does it really hungers your phone so did the update and I hardly notice any unusual battery drain.
My screen shows 45-61% battery usage and rest all fine. Dont know how to reduce that but its ok.
I get 2 1/2 days battery easily without any stamina mode activated so I guess it pretty awesome. :fingers-crossed::good:
Hi, I did not find a battery drain on my z3c but did find out something on my prev. phone, the z2, my phone went battery hungry after flashing update so I gave it 2 days to settle. The drain kept, driving me nuts. I than did a full wipe didnt help. After formating the sdcard away was the battery drain! Probably some corrupted file or sector on the SD kept the phone draining the batt.
Also seen on other phones that some malfunctioning simcard could disrupt the stability and power usage. Some operators use cheap cards that can just die on there own.

Not my first cruise here. This phone never even glitched before the 5.0, not the same performance or battery since so there is something to track down.
Any change after a factory reset of your phone?
Same issue here after 5.0. Battery drain and phone overheats after a few minutes of use. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
It seems that I am having issues as well. I have tracked the problem down to something in google play services and exchange email sync. My phone battery settings page shows that my phone is always awake.... If I do a factory reset it no longer happens. But as soon as I enable my exchange email it starts to do the same thing. My phone turns in to a nice hand warmer because it gets hot in my pocket and dies in 5 hours or so. Try a factory reset and see if it still is giving you bad battery life.
When I do the factory reset and try to do a restore of all my apps I get the same problem. When I do not restore and set my apps up from scratch it seems to work well until I add exchange email. Ill do some more testing and report back.
I dont use any exchange service just Gmail accounts and they are not on active sync, I have to swipe to sync them. Call me lazy but I dont want to Factory Reset unless its proven that its going to fix it.
Locked up so bad today Had to pull the battery for the first time since I bought it in December
No way to guarantee a FDR will fix your phone. I can tell you that it fixed mine. Battery life was terrible and the phone would get so hot it would go into cool down mode. After a FDR everything is as it should be on 5.0. IMO people should FDR after any system updates as large as the Lollipop update just to make sure all the KK files and data are gone so there are no conflicts.
Amen to what newman said i would factory reset before complaining about problems. I haven't updated to 5.0 yet because i really don't see a reason to just yet but i would definitely factory reset for peace of mind if i did.
I did a factory reset twice and still same problem. Battery drains and overheats. I find it weird that some phones have the problem and some don't.
But it definitely is a problem and I don't really "complain". Some people just ask for help which I don't think is the same as complaining. Like Bobby, I've been doing this for a while. I've been rooting and jacking with android phones since the og Droid.

I played around with s health a bit after loading lolipop, and noticed thats when it heated up on my phone so I froze it in titanium backup, but didn't restart. This is the main reason why I want to return my phone back for a new iphone. The lag is terrible.... I know you said lag is gone, but could you elaborate?
The update also includes the September 1, 2016 security maintenance release.
I wonder if the security update includes a feature that will let them turn the phone off if you do not swap it out?
Getting my replacement sent to my store since I cant get silver in any one around me. Just got confirmation text lets hope they get them out asap!
If my Note 7 is from China and I download this update...I fear my battery icon will turn green and I won't be able to exchange the phone ? Will T-Mobile sent me if this happens?

The rumor is that they will take away 40% of your battery capacity due to forcing your battery to only charge up to 60% of total charge. They say this to make sure the old Note 7 don't over charge and don't explode. This is rumor to happen by the end of month.
This is what I believe is their last straw in getting us to exchange the older Note 7 for newer Note 7.
So this update is giving warning before taking away 40% of our battery charge capacity.
So there is no need for them to force shutdown your Note 7.
Has anyone else notice the Weather & Clock widget disappearing when using another launcher. I exchanged my device last night for a new one, set it all up the way I like it. The update came through this morning, and after installing it the "Weather & Clock" widget disappeared from my home screen. I'm using Google Now launcher and loved that I had this ability prior to the update as I know previous phones limited certain widgets when you used different launcher. Anyone else on this boat?
Thanks!

Thats not true my phone have the new update and it charge to 100%... The phone is a lot faster and it dosent get hot at all like before. I started to like note 7 a lil more.
I'm worried about taking this update. I just got my replacement Note 7 about an hour ago, I don't want the update to make it so I can't get root. Anyone have any idea if this effects it?

You didn't read it correctly. I said by "end of month". and "So this update is giving warning before taking away 40% of our battery charge capacity. ".
Which means that this wouldn't take effect until the end of month. Not now. Again it is/was (depending on time you read this) a rumor. This rumor is well posted at many news and tech sites,

You can postpone it what they say as 3 times (whatever that means). Once you reboot it will reboot itself at sometime (without you choosing) and install itself regardless of you choosing to postpone it. That is what happened to me. Once it starts to install you can't stop it by shutting down (I tried that).
So in short in the long term you have no choice.

Well, hopefully someone knows what app I may have to freeze to stop the update. It's not that I don't want it, it's that I don't want it yet until I'm sure!
What do you guys of the new notification bar pull down?
I think i like it more now.

Once you postpone it, don't reboot.
I think people are getting confused since there are 2 updates.
One is for defective Note 7s making it so it'll only charge to 60% for safety reasons and so people will go exchange their devices.
The 2nd update is for new Note 7s, making the battery indicator green along with a number of improvements, I'm loving my Note even more now, its very snappy with some welcome UI changes.

WRONG. There is only one update for t-mobile users. Doesn't have to do with any kind of battery limitations, only fixes / improvements, and now a notification that will tell you to replace the device everytime you place it on a charger.
