Hi all...I flashed the new viper 5.0 with recovery 3.03 and rom loaded fine. I was having some issues so needed to go back to my backup of previous version of viper. Now I am getting the error device needs password to decrypt. I don't have a password and actually think its because internal storage got messed up somehow. I am looking for any help to get my phone back to normal. I should mention i have sunshine s-off.
Thanks

I am wondering if running a RUU will fix it...I just don't want to make it worse. Can anyone confirm? I need to rebuild the internal storage and format so I can get it working again I think. I am not worried about data loss as I have my stuff backed up. Any help much appreciated.

Run the RUU, then do a factory reset with stock boot and recovery. That ought to fix it up.
I tried to RUU however its not recognizing my internal memory...see below error.
c:\androidsdk\tools>fastboot flash zip 2PS6IMG.zip
target reported max download size of 800000000 bytes
Invalid sparse file format at header magi
At this point I have no idea what to do. Any help desperately appreciated!

use correct fastboot..
htc_fastboot flash zip 2PS6IMG.zip

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your only option is to format data, which will wipe internal storage. The option is available under the TWRP Wipe menu.
As to issues with RUU, I wasn't able to flash 2PS6IMG.zip via fastboot, and could only do it from download mode with the file on my external sd card.
I tried htc_fastboot flash zip 2PS6IMG.zip and it wouldn't recognize it. Also I have tried to format data for internal drive...twrp is not even able to mount my internal drive. I am not worried about losing data as I have what I need backed up. I don't know what else to do...can't flash a rom without getting decrypted message...then go to twrp to fix and it can't recognize the internal drive to fix.

Wondering if you put htc_fastboot.exe into your adb folder where the most current adb and fastboots are?
The HTC fastboot should start right away without error....

If TWRP is installed, try wipe - advanced, and do repairs.
Repair then wipe everything. Then do the RUU again.

Do you have an SD-Card?
If so, try running the RUU using that method.
It is more reliable in my opinion, anyway.
but also, the post above me is good advice. In TWRP, need to format data, which is different than wiping data, and many get confused, and if you know what I'm talking about, just ignore this, but needs to be said just to be sure.

OK, so I realized I cannot actually modify system with the Phh superuser. I need to get supersu on and I cannot do that unless I can access data in TWRP. Whenever I format it I end up soft bricked. Any suggestions?
We formated it and restored data from another search code through fastboot.
Now we have the full rom in another thread, so there should be all you need

I have a CAZ-AL10, nothing there for me. I formatted data and now bootlooped. update.app is not working either.
Used update.zip from here http://hwmt.ru/oth/HWFF/info/view.php and it worked.
Still can't manage to decrypt without bootloop. What format should I format it to?
My rear camera image is upside down after unbricking by flashing the stock ROM. any fix for it.

Hi,
Noob here. I have a x727, bootloader is unlocked, twrp 3.0.2-0 installed, flashed rom fine everything working.
I went to do another backup today because I was going to flash an updated rom, but I'm getting this error in TWRP:
"Unable to mount storage"
when I try to do a backup. The "internal storage" shows (0 MB).
I also cannot see the files I transferred over to flash, I assume because it can't mount the partition.
How do I fix this? Thx in advance.
maybe u get encrypted ?
Shouldn't he wipe?
not sure how/if i got encrypted, never intentionally did so.
ok i guess it was easier than i thought...reflashed twrp and it works now. thx for the ideas.
wipe FORMAT DATA , please backup first .

I have installed FreedomOS on my OnePlus 5. I'm not sure if this is related to FreedomOS, but when I try to make a backup in TWRP with data, system, and boot, it has an error with createTarFork() shortly after it gets to backing up data. It also says 'read only filesystem' when I try to open Terminal from Advanced and run 'cd /data/media/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/bad7d639 && rm -rf backup-name'. What can I do to fix this and why is this happening?
EDIT: I have 32GB storage left
I had error 255 when restoring the data partition on my elephone p9000, for me it was because it was a bad data write and it was corrupt.

Hi guy, i had the problem, try to flash blue spark recovery and retry restore, if rom bootloops, try to dirty flash your rom
I just wiped and reinstalled OxygenOS http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-5/oneplus_5_oxygenos_4.5.10/. Once I reconfigure all my settings, files, etc, I'm going to see if it works.

I can't restore; I deleted all my backups in an attempt to free up space.
I think I found the solution!
1. Go to Wipe in TWRP, swipe to factory reset
2. Download:
OnePlus Recovery: http://oxygenos.oneplus.net.s3.amazonaws.com/OP5_recovery.img
OxygenOS: http://oxygenos.oneplus.net.s3.amaz...3_OTA_015_all_1708252353_e6d7756780064352.zip
3. Rename recovery image as recovery.img, boot phone into fastboot, plug into computer, run these commands on the computer:
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot boot recovery.img
4. Open recovery on phone
5. Select Forgot Password, will wipe all leftover files in SD Card.
6. Boot back into recovery, select reload, select Install over ADB or Install Over USB or something similar and plug phone into computer.
7. Run 'adb sideload oxygen-os-filename' without quotes on computer.
8. Let it install OxygenOS, it may appear to be frozen at some points; it probobaly isn't, so don't shut it off or unplus USB.
9. Download Bluspark TWRP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=26601&task=get
9. Reboot into fastboot, plug into computer and run these commands on the computer:
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery bluspark-twrp-filename-location.img
fastboot boot bluspark-twrp-filename-location.img
10. Success (hopefully)
Oh. Wait. Now it has the same error when I try to make a backup. (I feel like it might be from installing https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/kali-nethunter-magisk-t3676681, but they say it's unrelated). Doors anyone know why this is happening again?
the solution to this was to boot to your previous rom that u have made nandroid backup with and then setting up the same password/pin in settings > security. When you then boot into twrp it will ask you for the pin/password to decrypt your data partition and then you can flash the nandroid backup(you have to have the same password there). here it is obvious that you are trying to flash data partition that uses different encryption password (in case of stock rom there is non) and this obviously wont happen.
maybe another solution would be to connect externally usb and unmounting data partition and then restoring from usb...
I'm having the exact same issue, but trying to create a Nandroid, not restoring one. Happened on Codeworkx TWRP 20180414. I always remove my passwords, fingerprint, pattern, and face data before I backup, update, etc. since I'm encrypted to avoid issues, and it still happened. I flashed the latest blu_spark TWRP and got the exact same error in the same spot in the data partition backup.
Never had an issue like this before. I even tried saving the data partition separately and still got the same error. Very strange indeed.
All other partitions backup without issue.
I'm on xXx v10.5 w/ ElementalX v3.04, Encrypted
If anyone has any insight, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much!

For me flashing normal oxygenos with magisk 16 and formatting data and trying to make it boot with the new flash and then rebooting into recovery and restoring made it work. I guess it has to do with the right filesystem having to be made first.
hi guys,
i've read all the thread in XDA related to ERROR 255, can't find anything to solve my problem trying to backup on TWRP ending with this error 255.?
I'm not using any parallel apps, not using Apps Locker, don't have any folder 999 (searched using Root Browser).
I've tried deleting all fingerprint, face unlock and screenlock as well.
No joy.
I'm using latest TWRP 3.2.2-1, OOS 5.1.7, Rooted.
Appreciate any help or sharing experience.
i tried to flash but i guess screwed up and twrp not mounting data there is nothing i can do right now its not mounting for encrypted device i guess.. i tried to flash chineese twrp it was mounted then flashed stock recovery and there is i got Encryption Unsuccessfull! Message.. what should i do ?
Go to Wipe in TWRP, and Format Data. It will wipe everything but you'll then have access again in TWRP.

I got the same error. If you go to wipe and use the format data button everything will get wiped except TWRP but since the memory on the phone is properly formatted you can connect your phone to a computer, open the phone memory like an external hard drive and just copy and paste the ROM zip and your root app zip and then flash them in TWRP. It should definitely work.

Hello!
I tried to do a clean install of MIUI Global (10.3.11, which came with the phone). I didn't install any other ROM before in this device. Wiped eveything (data, system, dalvik etc.), then flashed the ROM and Magisk.
Now, when I connect the phone via USB I cannot access my files. It only shows "internal shared storage" on Windows, and it's all empty. When I try to transfer a file it shows nothing, the file just don't go. While in recovery I can access the storage and transfer files.
*I did activate USB depuration in developer mode.
*I did change de USB mode to "transfer files"
*I reinstalled the ROM several times.
Maybe it's something to do with the format type of the storage?
I'd try to do a ROM fastboot but I cannot find the fastboot version of MIUI Global for MI 9T.
Please, help
Did you format data? I think you forgot this part, format data then you can wipe it if you want.(formatting will delete everything from your internal storage ofc)

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I did.
It seems like the "/storage/emulated/0/........." is broken. I cannot do nothing on this folder. I tried to create a file/folder in it with Solid Explorer and it says that the directory wasn't found.
Any idea?

Noticed that when I try to wipe data after formatting it an error appears on TWRP: "error opening '/data/media' (No such file or directory". Is it normal?
Seems like the ROM isn't properly creating the directory, that's why I can't access it.
