Is there a way to have no lock screen at all? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I don't really understand the concept of Smart Lock having trusted places, devices etc. for turning off pin etc. to unlock the screen when it still leaves a lock screen you have to swipe. What is the reasoning behind that? Screens don't really turn on in people's pockets do they? I've never had a phone where I used a lock screen (except away from home in case it's lost) until the last several days with my Axon 7 and having to swipe the screen when I don't use the fingerprint reader (I've discovered having it on the back instead of front is inconvenient, at least for me) is starting to drive me batty.
So is there a way to remove it? I'd want it removed COMPLETELY in certain scenarios, such as being connected to home WiFi or truck bluetooth.
If not, and if that's normal, how can people stand it? :cyclops:

Permanently:
You need to be rooted and have Xposed firmware. Then just search on Google for the module: lockscreendisabler xda. With that module you can deactivate the lockscreendisabler permanently.
Certain scenarios:
By location, Bluetooth you can use smart lock. For wifi: there is an app called smart lock WiFi, I think. You can too find it on xda.

The smart lock built into the phone? That doesn't disable the lock screen, it just disables having to put in a code etc. on the lock screen.

Disable stylus

Is there a way via root or ROM to permanently disable the stylus? It's currently causing headaches where if the stylus is in or out of the holder it keeps detecting it being removed and inserted rapidly, causing the keyboard to minimize and to wake itself up from lock.
Is there a way to just straight up disable its ability to know its there? Or make it always thing the stylus is inserted?

You can disable the pop up window in settings. That way it will only show the little stylus icon on the top left corner, and not pop up the app menu.
Also, mine is getting weird too, where it thinks the stylus is removed, even when it isn't. I ended up taking the nose of the stylus apart, backing out the threaded insert in the silver part, then putting it back together. This lengthened the stylus enough that it will register again and solved my problem, at least for now.

Try to disable it in user level software. If you're desperate you could remove the driver being loaded if you have root access. Do a search for any config files that specifically mention the stylus insert sensor. Other words, do some research on what that driver is called if there is one. Don't disable the DirectStylus driver as that may remove touch screen functionality.
Dont think it would remove touch screen functionality:
if you enable the "stylus only" mode, you can still use the screen with your fingernails. anyway, you cant do pinch2zoom gestures with stylus+fingernail in "stylus only" mode, so i guess they got different components running for stylus (wich only accepts 1 input) and finger.
no guarantee, just guessed.
Any solution with this?? It is driving me insane. The thing is that I haven't taken it back to the retailer because my warranty is void (unlocked bootloader) and I wouldn't want to pay a ridiculous amount of money for something I could as well fix myself. Any information would be appreciated, cheers.

Smart Lock not working properly

Hi! As many others, I am really happy with the S7Edge. I encountered one problem with the Smart Lock functionality though which I really find annoying.
I am using my Pebble as trusted bluetooth device. Now, when I turn off my Pebble (while the phone's screen is off), the phone should lock, right? Well, it doesn't. I am still able to turn it on one time. Only when going into standby mode for the 2nd time it requires my finger print / code in order to unlock.
It does work correctly on a Nexus device so I assume this is caused by a bad implementation by Samsung? Can anyone here confirm this behavior?
Thank you in advanced!

I can confirm you that SmartLock is crap ! I have set my car as trusted device, my headhones too and fav locations, and regularly I have to use the fingerprint or the schema.

Smart Lock works fine for me. I've never had to use a fingerprint or pin when my phone is connected to a registered BT device. I don't use locations, so can't comment on that.
Does going to lock screen and security>other security setting>trusted agents toggle smart lock off?

OK google while charging?

Am I the only one plus 5 user who cannot access ok google while the phone is locked and screen off? All the settings are enabled in voice setting inside the google app.
I have tried while the phone is charging with the original charger and 3rd party. OK google works normally throughout the phone but not while it is plugged in and screen off. Can someone test it and let me know!
Hi Kevin,
Got the same issue on mine.
It does work of the screen is on while phone locked.
However, it does not if the screen has turned off.
I used to use it like this all the time with my OP2.
Wondering if it's Google Assistant specific?
If there is anyone who hasn't forced Google Assistant onto their phone (unlike myself which had to use the US English trick) I would be interested to know if the same still applies.
same here . doesn't work when screen is off

As other mentioned the screen off/locked combo will not respond to Google Assistant (GA) commands. I can get "OK Google" to work with the screen off but unlocked which I do while its in the charger with a hacky work around. I use a combo of the Caffeine app (overrides screen lock timeout while charging) and a Screen off app then turns the screen off but does not lock. I have a Google Assistant macro to launch the Screen off app on command.
I sure wish Google/OnePlus would fix this issue at least while charging as I like to use the OP5 for home automation and can see no reason to purchase a Google Home when I already have a more powerful device which is more versatile (the OP5). I have Google Assistant (GA) set up to control my audio/video equipment and associated lighting and am finding additional uses for GA everyday.

Ok Google from Screen off?

Hello everyone, I just came from a Nexus 6P, and was wondering if "ok google" from screen off is a feature on the OnePlus 5. I have swore I had it when I first got the phone but now it doesn't seem to be working. I've looked around a little and there seems to be a lot of disagreement about whether it's possible or not. Does anyone want to test it and post whether it works for them or not? (or used to work)

I never used stock OOS, only xXx and Pure Fusion, and "ok google" doesn't work on either while phone is locked (which, to my understanding, is not the same thing as "screen off")
I have been missing this ever since I got this phone and moved away from my Moto x Pure. It's really aggravating there is no way to get this to function correctly, or at all, with the screen off. I don't get it.

FYI: This was answered in a thread on Google Assistant.
1. "OK Google" will NOT work from the lock screen even when "Trusted voice" is enabled and the screen is off.
2. "OK Google" will unlock the lock screen when "Trusted voice" is enabled AND the screen is on.
3. "OK Google" will react if the screen is off but the lock screen is not on.
I hope that helps.
From what I read its speculated that with OOS it was chosen to save battery by turning off "listening" when the lock screen is on and the screen is off. Personally I think that OOS should be "listening" under those conditions if your also charging or at least have that option as a settings toggle.
I've personally had to hack a way around this issue by using a couple of apps (Caffeine, Screen Off (no lock)) to get into a #3 (above) condition when I'm attached to the charger so my OP5 can double as a Google Home and have my screen off most of the time without automatically locking.

I understand that this feature has been cut off as a measure to optimize battery life but
This thread is not on xda just to discuss what OEMs have restricted us to, right?
Besides there are many of us who would prefer this feature over an hour or two of battery life
I've also been doing some research
I've tried those apps that keep your display "Always on" after you press the power button, but that option wasn't very robust:
One extra press of the power button would turn off the app and thus the screen
Ok Google detection works well if the device was locked recently, not working at all after a few hours
Associated with an hour less of battery life
But the app made checking time and notifications a bit less tedious
Basically the AOD feature from recent Samsung devices
Let me know of any workarounds that involve least number of third party apps
BTW, I use trusted voice, and it works well, friends tried a lot to get through but never could , helps with the unlocking part of the above feature
TL;DR: It is very much possible!
I was were you guys were some weeks ago and also thought that it would be nice to have true hands-free capabilities, so I searched for an app that could do this. The main issue with the "OK Google"-detection, as @3DSammy already stated, is that the screen has to be on in order for it to work (and trusted voice has to be enabled, obviously). The best workaround for this is an app that keeps your screen turned on without draining the battery too much. For this purpose I downloaded an app called "Always On AMOLED - BETA" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tomer.alwayson&hl=en), which enables an always-on display, as the name suggests. The app itself works really well with few bugs and doesn't drain the battery too much, although it is noticeable. It will automatically start once you lock your device and is customizable to your liking. While it is running, you can use "OK Google" at any time when it's outside your pocket (and the always-on display is on), just make sure to disable aggressive doze and enable auto-start for the app to prevent it from getting choked off by the OS. Root access may also help. When pressing the power button the app will close and open your lockscreen as you would expect, and the fingerprint sensor does also work straight from the a-o display, which can't be said for every app out there. The sensor is a bit slower though...
Hope I could help!
It's possible to set up for when locked in Settings > Security > Smart Lock, but I'm not sure if you can do it when it's OFF.

Smart View screen off?

Hi guys,
Is there really no way to turn off the phone screen when using smart view? I've been searching and there doesn't seem to be any threads in regards to the issue, so hopefully I'm just being stupid.
Surely such an obvious feature can't be missing?
Thanks
JamesPBK - Galaxy S8 Duos (64GB)
you need to install smart view app and configure in settings
With the latest android update, while connected to my tv with smart view (Note 8), my phone screen turns off after a few seconds. How can I set this so that it stays on? (I use it for exercise and sometimes want it on tv and sometimes on my phone. I don't want my phone screen to turn off.)
I've a note8 and I want my screen to be off.. somehow even after the update, my screen is still on. Can anyone point me to the right direction on where is the setting for this? Thanks

That is exactly what I also need - Connected with Smart View my Tab S3 Screen should stay ON - can't figure out how to do that. Is there a way?
Screen locks ...goes dim
Launch the app you want to screen cast then swipe down or up on ur screen...the app you are having trouble with is associated with a game booster .
Click on advanced settings of game booster/ launcher and disable "auto screen lock"
Hi, was wondering if anyone had further answers on this. Particularly the screen going off after few minutes whilst using smart view?. I have tab s3 and it does this whilst using zwift, it does not appear to be linked to a game booster or launcher (or j can't find that setting).
The screen doest lock i just need to swipe it to revive it, but i wish it could stay on so i can use both screens ?
Thanks all
Solved
Its seems there is nothing you can do when smart screen is activated. Even the 'screen always on' apps that are out there are ignored while smart screen is active. Also the alwzys on in developer options is ignored.
However i found a solution with an app called Macrodroid. Create a macro to be trigged when smart screen is running , adding always on screen as the action and its working fine :good::good:
I think this would also work in reverse for those of you who are having problem wiyh screen not dimming or going standby

This did not work for me. The Macrodroid isn't even recognizing Smart View being opened.
