Howdy,
I am having trouble unlocking wifi tether on my new AT&T S7 running ....pk1. I am rooted using:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s7/how-to/root-s7-att-g930a-g935a-t3410538
thanks princecomsy and chainfire!
I have tried the following unsuccessfully:
1. adding net.tethering.noprovisioning=true to the build.prop
-and a few others I can't recall off hand.
2. adb shell tether_dun_required to 0
Is there another way?
Is there a ROM that I can flash with FlashFire that already has this functionality? Any help yall could give would be greatly appreciated.
Flash xposed, and then install xtouchwiz
Thanks, but I tried your suggestion and still no luck. Any other methods?

Install stang5.0litre rom from the Verizon thread. Teather is unlocked by default on his rom. It works great on AT&T, just have to have WiFi on initial setup since the APN is a Verizon APN. After that put in the AT&T APN, download titanium backup and freeze "setup wizard" so you don't get the "the sim is not a Verizon sim" notification. PM me if you decide to flash that rom and I'll tell you a few more things that need to be done to get rid of some annoying things that happen you you flash the rom or read his ENTIRE first post in that thread.
Not sure what you may have done wrong, but as I posted before, all you need to do is install xposed framework, and then the module xtouchwiz can remove the tethering provision check.
If you have it set to "secure boot" then you won't be able to use xposed. Disable that and try again.

I've been wanting to flash this rom a couple days ago but got a little nervous. Will I run into these similar notifications on most roms from other carriers?

I've flashed roms from other carriers and haven't had these notifications. But it's no problem. Just gotta freeze the notification and add in your APN manually

No problem. Just make sure you read the entire first post. There are some really important parts that can save you a lot of head ache. Also, the settings menue will be all white when you first boot up, open super snake (snake icon app that comes with the rom), grant permission to Super SU, click button in top right corner and click "restart system UI).

Everything worked like a charm. The only issue I ran into so far was the settings menu being white which I fixed using super snake like you stated. My APN settings didn't get changed to verizon's. I think it was because I restored my systems settings from and old backup. Thank's a lot for all your info. You've just opened up so many roms for me to try thank you.
Thanks everyone, the new rom is working well now. I had trouble with the APN and for a while had no internet and no picture texts. I entered the APN setting dirtydoge recommended and changed changed the network mode from "Global" to GSM LTE UMTS. Not sure if one or both were needed to fix the problem but its working now!
Thank you all very much for your help. Also i tried installing xposed and xtouchwiz and wasnt able to get the wifi tether working...not sure if i unchecked boot or not. But my phone had quite a bit of lag when xposed was installed, so i like the current setup better. I really appreciate your input and help.

Yea, closed will make your phone lag depending on which modules you use. But the WiFi tethering should work by default just by flashing the rom.
I must have put a decimal point in the wrong place or something. Shoot! I always do that. I always mess up some mundane detail.

Lol. I've done it before. Bit also Ayer putting your APN in, I've heard of it taking a few hours for the pic messages to start working again.
As an aside... if you don't want to root or modify APN...
I downloaded Package Disabler Pro (was $1.50 on Play Store) and was able to disable 'TetheringAutomation' and 'TetheringProvison' and now I can enable tethering with my grandfathered Unlimited plan. I am *NOT* rooted and am on PK1. It doesn't "check for activation" or whatever it was before, it simply enables tethering like the XPosed module does for root.
EDIT: It worked once, and now doesn't. Nevermind

It doesn't work like that on Nougat haven't tested on MM PK1 yet. If I disable those two on N it disables tethering completely.
I flashed the G930U firmware last month and the tether works "right out of the box" so to speak. No root needed or even changing APN settings, other than adjusting for Straight Talk. Even got an OTA a couple of weeks ago. Tether was my biggest reason to root so now I'm good.

try reflashing stock rom unrooted and it should come back. it may have to do with the gsm unlock you did but reverting to stock and then rerooting should fix it for ya.
@Andr3s - you did allow the sprint updates to run after you rooted (or installed the current ROM), right?
If the sprint updates don't run, the hotspot won't show up.

Hi, I had the finished version in AMF9, I did downgrade the modem to MDC to unlock and work in GSM mode, then went back to update the modem to AMF9, I root the phone and the next day the phone using the option disappeared and I have the latest version of Sprint.
You wrote AMF9 twice, so I assume that is not a typo. The latest Sprint update is MF9 - you are on MF9, right?
Did you install the hotspot mod? If so, when? were you on MDC modem? or MF9 modem? (which mod did you flash?)

Hello This was what I did
1 - updating my phone to version MF9.
2 - Flash MDC Modem version
3 - Run the unlock to work on GSM
4 - I returned back to making flash MF9
5 - I did the root of MF9
6 - Install all my apps and when I looked at the option of the option links Hotspot disappeared, and when I install any of these tethering app says "Hotspot not Supported". but the strange thing is that before if it worked.
Also install the Hotspot Modem, both odexed and deodexed dome and nothing.

You indicated that it worked before - do you mean - before step 1 in your list?
Here's my understanding of how this should happen. When you wiped your phone, and installed the new ROM/modem/etc, the phone should do a handsfree activation with Sprint when you first boot up. If this activation is skipped, the hotspot (and the sprint bloatware) doesn't get installed.
Sorry if I'm being confusing - hope this helps.

A it should have been that, I do not turn the phone on Sprint, since I'm outside the United States, that hurts.
thanks
I have a Sprint galaxy S4
Model:SPH-L720
android Version :4.4.2
Rooted: Yes
Baseband: L720VPUFNG2
Build number: KOT49H.L720PUFNG2
hardware version:L720.08
So first I do see this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256950
however I don't know which one I am should get (if any) I 90% sure my phone is Odex (I checked in system/app and there were files with .odex)
I rooted my phone with this guide
http://androidforums.com/sprint-gal...66-video-root-tutorial-l720t-l720-sprint.html
worked 100% no issues
Now I want to enable hotspot for my phone however I cannot find one for my build NG2
thx
Not 100% sure but I bet this app will work

I've been using whatever is built into cyanogenmod
thanks for the reply but sadly that link is broken

Hotspot with NG2
Trekky101, did you have success with the Galaxy Tools app? I am not having success with it.
When I click on the Enable Native Hotspot button, the phone reboots.
When I click on the Wifi hotspot settings, that is just taking me to the Sprint phone settings. When I turn on wifi, then it is telling me I need to contact Sprint.
I think I need to enable the wifi hotspot in the regular Wifi Hotspot Settings, but it does not stay on due to the contacting Sprint Customer Service.
It seems the manual says to enable it and then press the Enable Native Hotspot. That series of steps does not seem to work.
My phone is a S4 with the NG2 build.
There is a working hotspot for deodexed ng2. But before you go flashing an entirely different rom, make sure you have busybox installed (search for it on the play store), this could be causing galaxy tools to not work.

Hertz,
I had the same results the first time I tried with the Galaxy Tools, until on the second try I unchecked the "auto reboot" then hit the "enable native hotspot" button, then restarted (rebooted) my S4 manually (power button)..
I had already gone to Settings/Connections/hotspot the first time and configured my SSID name and password, so I just went back to Settings/Connections/Hotspot and turned the Hotspot on, and it worked perfectly...!
Hope this works for you!
PS My S4 is the NG2 build also...

The above thread is closed. Where can I find native hotspot enabler for NG2?
I spent a couple of days trying to find a solution for this, but I cannot. So I hope somebody can help.
My phone is rooted an unlocked. It was once a Sprint phone. I have my own MSL code.
Many forums advice that you enter ##DATA# and tweak
APN2LTE internet and APN2 EHRPD and write default, mms, dun.
The problem is that my DATA screen doesn't show APN2LTE internet and APN2 EHRPD
All I see is APN.
When I change the APN TYPE to default, mms, dun nothing happens on reboot.
Another popular advice is that you should edit the build.prop and add
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
But that fails too.
It's embarrassing that I have a rooted and unlocked phone, but I can not use my phone as a hotspot. I have tried a few apps as well. They fail.
The hotspot option never appears on my Settings.
Does anybody have a solution?

When you say unlocked are you saying that it has the U firmware installed? I believe the U firmware allows hotspot natively.
U firmware
Thank you for replying come up but I do not know what U firmware is. I assume it's a generic firmware for the S7.
My phone was a Sprint phone. It has the model number SM-G935P.
I had a professional root and unlock it. It had the hotspot feature available and I used it. However, about a month later, the phone got into a boot loop, so I had to wipe the phone and restore it. In the process of doing that, the phone lost rooting (but it remained unlocked). I restored the root myself, but was unable to restore the hotspot feature.
I would rather not install another firmware. I am in Africa, and downloading two gigabytes is a real pain. Moreover, I'm worried that it won't work on my S7. Since my phone is rooted and unlocked, it seems that it should not be that hard to make the hotspot feature available, especially since it was available earlier with the same firmware that I used to have. Ideas?

Well if you don't want to go with downloading the firmware then the easiest would be using the app FoxFi. But I believe that if you download and flash the U firmware that it will stay, even after a factory reset. But it's up to you.
Foxfi
Thank you for your advice. I tried the foxfi app and it did not work. Although I could see the network that it creates and apparently connect to it, it would not issue an IP address. So ultimately my other devices could not connect at all.
I really don't want to install a new firmware. I'm worried that it will brick the phone. Are you sure that is compatible with my model of the S7? Where would I obtain the U firmware?
I'm just surprised and a bit stunned that there's not a relatively easy way to reveal the hotspot feature when the phone is rooted and unlocked. I would think that with all the bright developers on this forum, there would be a straightforward solution.
I appreciate your help.

As long as you have the US's Sprint Galaxy with the snapdragon processor then you can flash the U firmware with no problem. Look in the Sprint section for directions, you'll even get updates directly from Samsung and not Sprint anymore. And I know there is a way for Verizon when rooted to get hotspot to work but not sure if it would be the same for Sprint. If that's what you're going for then check the Sprint forums for that as well.
According to this....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s7/help/bloat-free-firmware-930u-tried-t3428974
It only qorks with 930 models. Mine is SM-G935P.
That same thread says " You cannot root this firmware with the Sprint model. "
So I'm still stuck.
I just don't understand why there isn't a simple way to turn on this feature when the phone is rooted.

Are you sure it's rooted? You said you did a factory reset, so unless you rooted it again then you have lost root. And you were looking at the wrong forum, you need to look on the Sprint S7 Edge forum (S7 is the G930 and S7 Edge is the G935) for what you need to do.
you are right. When I reset it, I lost the root. It remained unlocked, for some reason.
However, I was able to root it again by myself. The only thing that I lost was the hotspot.
I'll try another forum here. Thanks!

I have roms and methods in s7 forum. This is different. The S8 doesn't have an adb unsecured eng boot image to work with. The s8 eng boot image is basically worthless.

I was hoping you would upgrade to the S8+. Thank you for working on this.

This method seems to have removed the AQDC device maintenance one button optimization and samsung backup. Those are the best reasons to have the unlocked firmware. Any chance we can get those back? @jrkruse

Not for now.

For those having trouble make sure you are rebooting to recovery before flashing csc and wipe cache. If still having trouble flash the U1 AP file and the the Verizon Home CSC file in the zip at the same time in odin.

Will this work in JOdin3? I only own a Macbook at home I know I know it blows. My old winodws based one finally bit the dust.

It should
I can confirm wifi calling works and volte with these thank you! now enjoying unlocked firmware
Great work, thanks so much for this!
Two questions: First, I tried to install the Wi-Fi Calling apk file, and it said that it couldn't install as there was another package with the same name. Any idea how to fix that?
Second, I notice that some of the Unlocked features, like Samsung Cloud and Device Maintenance, are gone. Does this remove all Verizon uncrippling from the unlocked version? IE - does installing this also get rid of the Caller ID?
Thanks again!

It appears that flashing HOME CSC removes those features. I wonder if it's possible without flashing HOME CSC.
@jrkruse
If I reset the phone through recovery, do I need to reflash your CSC file? I ask only because everything DID work last night with wifi calling, but now for some reason after reboot it didn't stick. BUT, in rom control, self provisioning shows enabled for everything and all apps have permissions. Thinking the CSC file may have needed to be flashed again, but thought I'd ask. (Sorry for stupid q) - I did flash your CSC once, already....
Swick
EDIT: I was able to get the WIFI calling to work again without resetting phone. However, is there a way to have it automatically use WIFI calling and I can just disconnect from WIFI to use cell? As it stands right now I have to launch rom-control and turn off cell power. Should I just reset phone and start over, or is that how I have to control it? Also, can I add the WIFI calling quick launch button using the tweaks listed here on XDA, assuming you or someone knows the variable name to add that to the quick launch menu...
IF I have to deactivate cell power I'm not against it, honest. This is yet ANOTHER FANTASTIC FIX / tweak by you! VERY GRATEFUL!

Lastly... I have a few S88+'s (and one S8 if I remember correctly) that I MIGHT be willing to donate... IF it helps you root, mod, hack, etc... the device for us! LMK if interested!

I don't know of any other way to force WiFi calling other than turning off cell radio. On Verizon base rom you can put phone in airplane mode and connect back to WiFi but that don't work on unlocked firmware. The whole root thing depends on an unsecured eng boot image. Which the ones we have right now are not
So I have been using MetroPCS on my Moto G5 Plus since I got it. Well today I went and activated my device with the Sprint network... It wasn't working when I left the store, and I told the rep how it was modified (using RessurectionRemix 5.8.4 Final), that I would work on setting it up.
Well, so far no success in activating it... Have tried changing network mode to CDMA/LTE and messing around with dialer codes, still can't get anything besides "emergency calls only."
Anyone have experienced getting this phone activated with Sprint?
Note: they did tell me they didn't have the exact, or "recommended," SIM card for my device, and that it was a secondary option they used in the system(?).

You need to get the Sim card part # that ends in 446c. I got mine at best buy for 10 bucks and it's currently working well with Sprint.

I am using that SIM, got it working when I reflashed stock. Did not work again when I restored RR, at least fully, as I was able to get data to work minus SMS/calls.
I'm on Sprint. No issues with any Roms.
You need to be on a stock build for the initial setup, because the custom roms remove all of the PRL stuff. Once it is setup once, flash whatever you want.

It doesn't stick after I flash a custom ROM
That's really odd. I don't have that problem...
Make sure you have APNs on the custom rom. I saw a problem a while back that the custom rom didn't keep the APN for some reason, and I had to put it in manually. Different device, but same problem.

Can you tell me what your APN info is? I have data and calling working now, but no LTE option (see screenshot)
I have mine set to global.
I had this same issue with my s6, and I ended up having to factory reset the phone, and redoing the PRL update, and the option finally came back.
Just to follow up, I was able to get full LTE and calls to work by flashing stock ROM, updating PRL, and by then it was provisioned on the Sprint network.
As it stands now, if I reinsert my MetroPCS sim card, it is provisioned for MetroPCS no problem, but I do have to reflash stock again each time I want to provision for Sprint.
So thats how I am going to run things for now, by making backups and getting it provisioned using stock before restoring.
this worked for me

theres an ap on the play store called apn backup and restore. install it on stock rom . b4 using it u need to go in system/apps and move the apk to system/priv/apps once moved changed permissions to r-w-r-r. after that a quick reboot and open app change setting to disable ics check and do a backup . once finished do the same thing on new rom and mine works flawlessly. im on boost which is also on sprint network. good luck hope this helps
