Hi all,
I just found my old Nexus 7 (2012 model) in a dresser drawer and decided to bring it up to speed. Currently it is running what appears to be a stock (maybe debloated) 4.4.2 with root and multirom. Recovery is TWRP for multirom. I was using multirom to run Ubuntu just for kicks, but have lost interest in that project, plus it now appears to no longer be supported. Now what I want to do is just flash one of the nougat based roms and call it good. When I try to add nougat as a second rom I get errors relating to E: not existing, it then deletes everything that just started to install. Posts I've seen in other hardware forums point to maybe the install script being wrong for multiboot. Is there any weight to this idea?
I want to run one of the new roms as a secondary first to see how well it works before flashing it for good. Am I missing something stupid here? I haven't messed with any of this stuff since I switched to Verizon and could really use some help.
I don't really need the multiboot option, but since I've gained it I'm a little slow to want to give it back up. Would it be easier for me to just reload the bootloader, recovery, etc, take it back to stock and start over?

Is the support of Multiroms dead or do they plan a patch for nougat later when it get more mainstream? I am currently running dirty unicorn 7.0 since I just got my screen and would like to have older build for compatibility issue.

Hey guys I have not seen this in the Q&A section and I want to make sure I do it right.
I only recently rooted my Nexus 7, been running stock but decided I wanted to have Multi Windows like I have on my Note 4. I have not decided on a ROM as I was looking for the best one so I am still running Stock Rooted 5.0.2 I saw Omni ROM and I think that this would be the best ROM to attempt this as I tried the Xposed method and of course got the boot loop.
I see that currently on OmniROM.com that this device is still running on KK 4.4.4 according to the nightlies. I assume I would need to find a KK stock ROM and flash it on to my Nexus to downgrade back to KK in order to install this ROM, or will this install with TWRP even though I'm running Lollipop?
If so does someone have a quick link to the Stock KK files? I used Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit to root my device as I did not feel like going through the same hassel as when I rooted my Droid RAZR so I would just tell that to use those files instead.
I am always flashing ROMs on my Note 4 but I have never gone backwards and I think it was possible to install KK ROM once you upgrade to lolly but not use a lolly ROM if your still on KK.

I don't think anyone has done a compatibility check to see what happens if you run a 4.4 build on a device with 5.x bootloaders. It might work, it might do weird things (usually with sensors/wifi)
Multiwindow never got merged, if you want it you'll have to build for yourself and cherrypick it. There were some remaining issues with the patch we never had time to fix, we got too busy with other stuff, and xplodwild wants to rewrite the whole thing after finding a better way to implement it.

Recently updated my old Nexus 10/Manta to OmniROM 6.0.1 and I couldn't be happier. I had a fair bit of messing around on the first try until I got the sequence right...full wipe, flash ROM, flash Gapps pico and everything works REALLY well.
However, installing nightly updates is the same for me as the initial flash...I have to do a full wipe or I get the Google Services loop.
Am i doing something wrong is that how nightlies work currently?
Thanks.

Hi,
i'm rather new with rooting, flashing and all the stuff that comes with it.
Now i have an Oppo Find7 and i managed to install the following:
-TWRP recovery
-OmniRom 5.1 nightly
-Gapps 5.1
I'm pleased everything worked but now i saw OmniRom 6.0, when i tried to flash it with gapps i encountered the first problem:
-The install of OmniRom went well but when i try to install Gapps 6.0 stock, it is saying i dont have enough storage? Can i somehow increase or free up this storage to it can fit?
Second question: If the above is possible, is there a way to flash OmniRom 6.0 and Gapps 6.0 without the loss of data? or do i still have to backup and restore with titanium backup?
Thanks in advance

Hi there,
I have a Nexus 7 2013 wifi. Latest omni marshmallow but I have one issue. Battery drain.
It seems as it does not suspend. Maybe someone could point me in the right direction to help squash this pesky bug.
What I can add is that I have a Nexus 5 with same apps and settings without the issue .

I just upgraded from ZTE Maven running Android 5.1, to a Galaxy Express 3 running Android 6.0.1. love the phone, but for one thing. I playing a game called Walking War Robots. It played good on the 5.0, but really lags bad on the 6.0.1.. I thought the better phone would be better but it's worse. I've also noticed that the graphics are better for the 6.0.1, including shadows for robots, etc. I believe it adds to the problem. What I'd like to know, is there a way to improve the performance of my phone to get rid of the lag, or is there a way to disable enhanced graphics and make the game think I'm running 5.0 to get rid of the shadows and enhanced graphics. I can do without robot shadows for the sake of smooth gameplay. Any help will be greatly appreciated... YodaXIII
password reset?
I decided to try the official Nougat for my 6P. Before going there, I made a TWRP backup, which I used "adb pull" to get to my computer. After trying Nougat and deciding I didn't like it, I went back to Omnirom from the TWRP backup. At boot it asks for the decryption password, which works fine, and omnirom starts up correctly. It then prompts me for password after restart, and it insists that I enter the wrong one. What options do I have to get past this, other than a clean install and then recover my apps/data from backups?
[edit: solved it] I entered the file manager of TWRP and removed /data/system/locksettings* After this, the next reboot required decryption password, as expected, but did not require a lockscreen password, so all was fine and I could again set a new lockscreen protection.
I have a micromax unite 4 pro (Q465) but on google there is no recovery img for any recovery I request u to help me how can I install a custom recovery to flash a zip filee please help me

I suppose this is a reasonable place to ask this sort of thing and hopefully avoid 'how-long-is-a-piece-of-string?' replies.
I have two of them - a 16 and a 32 GB - and they seem to be OK for the most part. They are used for usual non-commercial stuff including video watching and some mild games. I just want the Nexii to be as stable, efficient and hassle-free as possible.
My options seem to be to run:
stock 5.1.1
A marshmallow ROM (which one?)
A nougat ROM (ditto)
Any of above with Franco kernel for efficiency and maybe Xposed, if available, for tweaks and 'upgrades' e.g. 'N-ify'.
I currently have PureNexus 7.1.1 on one (no camera) and Cyanogen 13.0-20161031 nightly on the other (some freezing and crashing).
Any suggestions re what I could use that is as stable, efficient and hassle-free as possible?
BUMP. (does one need to do this on XDA?)
I might be at the wrong forum sub-group. Any suggestions where I might find folk who know about mods and Nexus 10?
Ultimately, _no_ 7.x ROMs have working cameras, and I don't think any of them have working DRM binaries either (although I could be wrong).
CM is no longer being maintained, so any issues you do have there are not going to be fixed.
There is the LineageOS 6.x (https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/development/rom-t3556116) but whether it works well I don't know. It appears to be the closest to a 'maintained' 6.x ROM though.
I was just given a 10 last weekend and went with the latest lineage build https://download.lineageos.org/manta
Assuming you have a custom recovery just wipe, flash lineage, then a small gapps package, and finally SuperSU and you are rocking and rolling. Just give it a few minutes to settle after the first boot. My only complaint so far is the lockscreen is only in landscape mode.
Many thanks for your reassuring replies,vo4LG and someguyatx.
Once I get over my current f#up - I upgraded TWRP to 3.1.0 not to recovery, leaving me only able to boot to TWRP in recovery - I'll be going to Lineage MM. Somewhere else Resurrection was suggested. Maybe I'll put that on Nexus no.2 afterwards.

I've been running Cloudy G2.2 for a year an a half. It's given the phone enough legs to mostly make it through 2017. However, about every other week I have to restore my latest backup when Bluetooth stops working because it saw too many devices. This wouldn't be terrible if it wasn't for Authy refusing to sync my newer 2-Factor auth accounts. I think I've convinced myself that the G6 (US997) is my next phone, but now is a silly time to buy as the price should drop like a rock as the next wave of flagships come out.
I'm hoping to make it another couple months and was wondering anyone's experiences moving from Cloudy G2.2 (or other ROMs) to the latest lineage? From what I've read, it's very stable. However, I'm on Kit Kat bootloader, so it doesn't seem like this will be a straightforward process. I was hoping to get some experiences from people who made the same move before starting.
I currently have:
LG G2 D800
Root using stumproot (I think, it's been a while) with supersu installed
TWRP 2.7.0.0 installed by autorec
Cloudy G2.2 KOT49I
So, after some research, I set off to install LineageOS. In hindsight, this might have been a bad idea since it specifically only mentions the D802 in the title. However, it listed links for D800 builds, though they were crossed out.
I updated TWRP to this version by Blastagator and that was painless. I then wiped the phone, made a fresh backup and flashed the latest nightly of LineageOS, and the latest GApps (Mini) for 7.1. That was disappointing since I got the quick "LG logo" followed by a blank screen, that I later found was mentioned in the same Lineage post. Should've read farther.
I think the issue is that I'm on the wrong bootloader. I thought I was on KitKat which the post requires, but in order to enter recovery, I have to press enter three times (rather than using volume buttons to navigate), which indicates I'm on JellyBean bootloader.
So, this is the scary step that I was hoping to avoid. My big fear is that I run Linux on my desktop, so I can't use the LG Flash Tool. As long as I can keep a working recovery, I have backups, so I'm fairly safe. Following the Blastagator bootloader post, I'm not really sure how you go back and forth between bootloaders so easily as it suggests. Is that really as simple as loading the zip file on the phone and installing it in TWRP?
Is there a safer way to handle this?
From my experience, it is that easy. Simply install the zip file and you have loaded a new boot loader. Also, I was in the same boat as you with Cloudy rom and moved to Nougat with crDroid. However it's not stable and I am considering looking for something else more stable but fast like crDroid.

When you updated your bootloader, were you still able to run the Cloudy ROM before you switched to crDroid? Once I flash the KitKat bootloader, am I only able to use the Nougat ROMs? My big concern is that there might be something a bit off with my bootloader, so I won't be able to get back to TWRP.
I think there's something a bit off with my bootloader as is, because about a year ago I flashed back to stock Jellybean, and took all the OTA updates. However, when the phone tried to take the KitKat update, it softbricked, and could only be recovered using the LG Update Tool, which I don't have access to anymore. Because of this, I'm a little worried that just dropping on the Blastagator KitKat bootloader may have some atypical issues.
i m using it for a while. u know, on Los you won't be able to use lg features such as qslide, qmemo, plug&pop, knockcode etc. Only worth it if you want your phone to look a little bit fresher and lighter or you need a newer android version for some reason. Else, don't take the risk if you can't use flashtool. You can consider installing another kitkat rom. There are lots and they are nice :]

My primary issue is that KitKat (or whatever Cloudy G2.2 is?) has the old Android bluetooth bug where once it sees too many devices, it stops connecting to anything. I have to make sure to turn off my phone if I go somewhere like an airport, and have been having to restore my clean Cloudy backup about once a month. It's getting pretty frustrating. On the other hand, I'm hoping to upgrade to an LG G6 (US997) in a month or two when the V30 release pushes down on prices. So, if it's a case of potentially hard-bricking my G2 at the worst possible time, I should hold off flashing.

That makes sense, but will I not be able to use my Cloudy 2.2 backup after that? It says that the hybrid bootstack will only boot CM 12.1, CM13, and LP stock roms.

These questions if this works with that or that are easier to answer for yourself by reading what goes with what.
Just Google LG G2 bootstack and you can probably find the ones you need for any available rom.
I use hybrid on Marshmallow 6.0.1 but I tried Nougat 7.1.2 too, it works.
Hey guys,
Anyone have any info when either unofficial or official twrp is coming for Android 11? I made the mistake of upgrading to 11 from 10 then tried flashing twrp which bricked my phone ( I fixed it, no biggie ). I just really want to flash a custom ROM and I can't find any other custom recovery that will do that and side loading twrp also gives a crashdump error. Unless anyone knows how to downgrade to 10, the the furthest downgrade I've achieved is 11.0.0, once I hit 10.x.x I get either a black screen or crash dump.
It's a lot there, I know. Much appreciated everyone.
Edit: reading more on this forum, I think I found a way to flash a custom ROM on Android 11.. I guess you can side load roms? So I guess I'm going to give that a try. I'm so old school, like back in 2011.
I had the same problem. Im using the Lineage recovery atm an idk why tbh. I think i used it for rooting and for now im only using magisk modules to obtain some featurers.
Sideloading roms is a thing but man i miss those old HTC Hero., HTC Desire times. Last years i was using a P30 pro without root and im so happy to have root again.
Anyway read carefully and have fun. I would love some answers from your experience here.

Most custom roms include all the files needed to flash the entire rom from a batch file. CrDroid for sure, but also Lineage. I'm sure there are more. My issue is not flashing, it's that all important nand backup from TWRP I miss the most. Switching roms is a lot more tedious when you have to re-install everything to revert back to your old setup.
Twrp for 8 and 8 pro may not happen ever, encryption is the problem
TWRP doesn't look promising considering the time that has passed since 8 launch...
