Xiaomi Redmi 3S Questions. - Xiaomi Redmi 3s Questions & Answers

This time i have a redmi 3s, its a great phone...
can anyone help me with some questions?
Can anyone tell me how did you for unlock your bootloader? or suggest me a secure method?
I'm looking for a post about fix the bad volume quality in camera videos, it will work with the V8.1.5.0 eu version?
Will the 4g/LTE work with MIUI V8.1.5.0 EU on American continent, specifically in colombia?
Anyone know any way for uninstall the unused google apps without get bootloop?
Thanks for all, and sorry for the inconvenience

1. Over Google a lot guides.
http://en.miui.com/thread-200858-1-1.html
If process stuck on 50% try again few times. Then flash China Dev rom, usually it helps.
2. Yes, patch for fixing bad recorded sound compatible with any rom for now.
3. http://willmyphonework.net
Chinese and International device versions have different bands support, Google it.
4. Bootloop only if you freeze Google Search app (Launcher3), other apps safe to disable.
Root: via MyAndroidTools disable all it's recievers and it won't start automatically.

Thanks for your quickly answer, you re always on fire

[Q] an American trying to use google apps on a chinese Xiaomi Redmi Note 4g

hello!
I recently bought a Redmi Note 4g and I'm trying to set it up so it's actually useful to me. I've tried downloading the apk for google play app store, doesn't work. I think it might be because I'm using a Chinese ROM, but I have so far failed to replace my current ROM with a Global version, and I'm not sure why.
model number HM NOTE 1LTE
Android Version 4.4.4 KTU84P
MIUI version 6.4.1.0 (KHICNCB) Stable
is the global ROM sufficient? if so, how do I install it? I have attempted this, but I'm not very knowledgeable, and have so far failed to understand the directions provided.
do I need a custom ROM?
all I really need is the ability to use google apps, I think. please help!

thank you for your timely response, however, "I'm not very knowledgeable, and have so far failed to understand the directions provided." I only sort of vaguely understand your instructions, and I'm not sure how to proceed from here. can you be more specific? thanks again

The Playstore app requires google services framwork installed as a system app, for that you need root access and/or a custom recovery

I think you are using chinese version, you need to update version by installing global version.
you can download the ROm , en miui forum
, save file in the root of memory internal, boot into recovery and choose update
Provided you have developer edition ROM (which comes pre-rooted) I had the same issue. Just search the Web for "Google installer for Xiaomi and you'll find an apk which will let you install Google Play and subsequently all the Google Apps.

Mi Max Helium 3gb/64gb - first review (and ROM flash tips)

Hi,
guess this will be more of a review as it is hard to say which feature i like BEST:
Got my MAX 3gb/64gb (helium) delievered yesterday. Since it came with the 7.3 MIUI first thing i had to do was read up on how to install the MIUI8 China dev rom to the device. After a bit of fiddling and translating chinese / indian websites i came up with a workable solution, even with the bootloader locked. So since yesterday evening i got MIUI8 6.6.23 running on the device - weeded out some apps i did not understand (chinese) and installed Play Store.
So far i must say - this phone is glorious. MIUI8 is fast and seemingly stable, i did not come across any big bugs and there doesnt even seem to be the typical micro-stuttering. Im really happy i bought the phone and hoping there will be a multilanguage (i.e. german) MIUI8 for it. For now im perfectly good with the Dev Rom and english localisation.
Thanks Xiaomi!
To anybody interested - flashing the China Development ROM (MIUI 8 6.6.23) with the locked bootloader was not exactly easy, here is how to:
- get the rom image from here: http://en.miui.com/thread-299033-1-1.html (be sure to download the Mi Max Pro fastboot image - 1418mb)
- get MiFlash Beta from here: http://xiaomitips.com/download/new-miflash-beta-one-click-install-miui-fastboot-rom/
- extract tgz fastboot image - keep folder structure!
- enable developer options -> usb debugging in additional settings then turn off phone
- boot phone into EDL mode (phone off, press simultaneously vol+&vol- then connect usb cable)
- open miflash beta - there should be an entry with "id 1" and "device" something like "COM10" in the bottom table now - SEE ATTACHED SCREENSHOTS!
- select the folder where extracted image is located
- tick "clean all" in the bottom right
- hit flash
- enjoy.
First of all, thank you for sharing this. I went step by step (vol up and down didn't work for me, tried power and vol up and device didn't show up in fast boot, did vol down and power and it showed up) then I flashed the image and it successfully flashed, when the device booted it still showed the 7.4.16 global stable Rom the vendor installed : /, I did it again and the same thing, the rom didn't change. could you please help/?
Sorry, I followed the steps exactly as described and it worked out perfectly, thank you very much, its just that when I pressed vol + and - I didn't see anything on the screen so I thought it wasn't working, miui 8 is nice indeed, could you explain how you installed the play store, the one on the Mi store is crashing on me.
it's a little tricky but there is a thread on here that should get you started. you have to use the Google installer and then update some Google components before you restart your phone.

6.6.23 is older (june 23)
6.7.7 is the newest sofar (July 7)
I use the weekly multi rom on my MI Max since its better tuned with translations and the china apps that I don't use are removed
https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-7-7-11.32639/
the process for installing the new Version does not change with the newer miui8 6.7.7 so you're good to go with the same Instructions from OP.
Meanwhile on my Max I have boot loader unlocked and root. Works flawlessly with the new MIUI weekly Releases.

Thanks a lot for you experience sharing,
I was wondering maybe you solved this: i can't get whatsapp to run on this rom, even with all permissions given, whatapps and skype cant access my contacts. I got my contacts on the system using the old google installer apk which worked wonders except now i can't get past the looking for backup screen in whatsapp.
If anyone has ideas pls let me know and in the meanwhile i will try to flash other roms to see if one works..
I answered my own question playing with the settings. You have to register under accounts mi accounts to unable contact sync for all apps .... ? anyway it all works now!
BTW I have updated MUIU using http://en.miui.com/download-302.html#446 new dev rom and followed instructions.

Thanks heaps for the tutorial about installing Google Play services
By the way, can this rom you're talking about be flashed following the instructions by original poster?
Do I need to flash in first place the rom from original poster (MIUI 8 6.6.23) and then flash your new one (MIUI 8 6.7.14)?
Or can I flash directly latest one?

I can't tell you for sure but i think you have to use the instructions from the muiu site if you want the lastest dev rom.
1- I used OP instructions and links to install muiu 8
2- updated to last china dev rom following muiu site instructions.
3- installed all gapps stuff
PS if you want to ROOT, do this between 2 and 3: (unlocked boot loader)
1-Download SuperSu to root Xiaomi Mi Max and copy it to your phone sd card from this site: http://www.stechguide.com/root-install-twrp-recovery-xiaomi-mi-max/
2-Download xiaomi twrp flasher and use it to flash from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max/development/tool-xiaomi-twrp-flasher-mauronofrio-win-t3405207
3-Follow instructions from step 9 : http://www.stechguide.com/root-install-twrp-recovery-xiaomi-mi-max/
Last thing im playing with trying to activate LTE bands on the phone. If anyone can help for that, i can't get the drivers to install propertly

TUTORIAL - Installing CM13 on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition 'Kate'

I recently bought myself a Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition (Kate) for its ability to run an official build of CM13 and, importantly, because Kate offers Band 20 support - a major advantage for UK usage.
As you may realise, getting CM13 onto Kate is somewhat more complex than getting it running on Kenzo. This is due to both the bootloader not being able to be unlocked officially and also because the Radios in Kate are different to those in Kenzo.
After figuring everything out over the weekend, I managed to flash the Official Nightly CM13 onto my Kate device & everything ran perfectly!
I wrote up the process in my Blog in quite a bit of detail, so feel free to have a read if you wish to install CM13 on your Kate edition of the Redmi Note 3.
@mwarner mmm online you can find an version of CM13 for kate

My tutorial is very thorough - every step is taken into account, taking a phone as it would be out of the box running MIUI to having a fully working CM13 installed. If it wasn't complicated, I wouldn't have written a tutorial .
Thanks for the info though - the text and the ROM is all in Chinese but may be of use to someone.
Thank you for work. I will trying it till my kate comes. Doesn't band 20 and 8 work?

A very well written and comprehensive guide, thanks! I've been seeing so many support requests all over the place that i'm still a bit hesitant to flash CM13. Have you noticed /ANY/ issues with hardware support? Dual sim, cameras, FP-reader? Is there anything that works worse on CM than MIUI7 stable?
Thanks again for a good guide, subscribed to your blog too

The Special Edition (Kate) phone supports the following bands:
LTE B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20/28 ( 2100/1900/ 1800/ 1700/ 850/ 2600/ 900/ 800/ 700MHz)
Kenzo does not support Bands 2, 20 and 28.

I must admit that the Note 3 is not my main phone - a Xiaomi Mi Max contains my primary SIM at the moment - so I have not tested it as much as I would like.
At this point (only having had the phone on CM13 for a few days) I have experienced one bug where I used the fingerprint sensor to unlock & the device unlocked, but to a black screen. Turning the screen off with the power button and then unlocking again with the fingerprint resolved this. I have only seen this once, but I did see it.
Generally, everything seems to work well - performance is great (smoother than MIUI) and both cameras and the fingerprint sensor work as expected. I haven't tried Dual SIM, or indeed a MicroSD card in the device, so I can't comment on this.
The bottom line is that it is a little too early for me to say whether I would use CM13 on the Note 3 if it was my primary phone. A safer bet is to use MIUI and set the phone up to turn off some of the oddities of MIUI. I posted about how I set up my phone here:
http://mikestechlife.blogspot.com/2016/10/guide-to-setting-up-xiaomi-miui-phone.html
On my main Mi Max I use Xiaomi.eu weekly on MIUI 8 with it set up as outlined above. CM13 only has partial supported on the Mi Max, so I don't want to go down this route with my Max.
That's quite the tutorial! Lots of good information there.
1. Xiaomi only support bootloader unlocking on Chinese Developer firmwares. There is NO Chinese firmware available for Kate - only Global ROMs. It is therefore impossible to officially unlock a Kate phone.

Not true, at least in my experience. I've officially unlocked my Kate using global dev MIUI8 v6.10.13. Followed these steps.. This particular MIUI release comes with a setting in the dev menu to check for unlocked bootloader and other things.
Now, I'm hoping I wasn't an exception, and officially unlocking Kate has now become just as easy for everyone.
Also, there's a ROM that's quite CM13-like and officially supports Kate and its radio. I come from a 2013 Moto G running CM13 nightlies and I don't miss CM13 after using this for a few days in my Kate. The experience is almost the same, and at least on my Kate, everything's running fine.
Too bad that Xiaomi is playing part lottery when making the phone, seems they can't be bothered to update their sources for all the part providers they're using. I guess we can't complain much when a phone of this caliber is so affordable.
I noticed that Xiaomi.eu have produced a build for Kate this week:
https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-10-27.35843/
Cheers bud great tutorial.
I was using the latest Global Dev Rom and after the first boot loading TWRP it gave me a prompt for password. I could not access storage. Just fully wiped the device with TWRP/Advanced/Wipe Data and did the install. CM13 just booted on my device with a locked bootloader.
Biggie ups!
Does this work with cm 14 too?

[Q] [HELP] How do you identify the correct variant of Redmi 2?

I've tried posting this in MIUI forums and haven't gotten any replies. I'll try my luck with XDA.
How do you correctly identify Redmi 2?
I've got a RM2 that has the 2014811 variant when I check it onscreen.. But I'm skeptic that it's correct. All I know is 2014811 is suppose to be a normal Redmi 2 with 1 gigs of RAM and 8 gigs of ROM. But mine's a 2 gigs RAM & 16 gigs ROM. If I'm correct, with specs like those, my RM2 is suppose to be a RM2 enchanced variant (Pro, Prime, etc). What I can't figure out is which variant is it that I'm dealing with. Another thing that I know is that the RM2 version of mine isn't the global one because I didn't buy it from an official shop, I bought it from an external distributor. The RM 2 box is written in chinese and the characters underneath the battery are full chinese (except for the S/N and IMEI). Is my RM 2 a 2014818 or 2014819? How can I find out which variant is it that I have with me.
Thank you.
2014819- Brazilian variants
2014818- Redmi 2 prime variation of 2014811

But now I've found out something else that's got me hooked up on finding out. I've got: touchscreen issues, wake up issues, twrp issues, kernel issues and proximity issues. I'm guessing even if I tell you what I'm experiencing, you won't be able to find a solution for it (please don't say I've got defective hardware, because I don't. Why? Because 3 of my friends bought the same device as mine, in the same online shop and all of them have the same issues). But even so I'll just post all of em and cross my fingers:
TWRP's bugged, needs to timeout (screen off) first before I'm able to responsively use it (touchscreen bugged, tried all latest TWRP versions, including kumajaya's old twrp builds. Touchscreen does work on several 2.8.7.0 and below versions for KK bootloader).
Any custom rom I've flashed will always face lockscreen issues (waking up device using power button leads to unresponsive and un-swipe-able touchscreen, that means I can't unlock my device, seems like it has to do with with proximity too, and please don't ask me about gestures and modified navigation buttons, because I don't use them at all: dt2w, s2w, etc).
Any custom kernel used will always lead to device not being able to wake up (pressing power button doesn't wake up the screen, stays black, have to reset device by force, still happens even though I'm using stock CPU govs *interactive* and I/O scheds *noop* not using hotplugs, doesn't change anything)
I still even face all those problems in Stock MIUI (KK or LP.. 7, 8)
Try downloading china developer ROM? Yeah. I've done that.. Even went to the Chinese download page of miui to download the exact recommended MIUI 8 C-Dev ROM for my HM 2 LTE-CU variant, and still the same bugs occur.
Xposed? I've experimented using stock and custom roms (below API 24) that are Un-Xposed. They still exhibit the same problems as above.
Clean flash dirty flash? I totally understand what those are.
Wipe dalvik cache and cache.. Don't even dare ask about those.
Fix Permissions? Yeah.. It didnt make a difference..
Post dmseg and logcats? Trust me, you devs will probably mark my device as a different type of WT8847 (and by saying that means even if you succeed to find the problems, to fix them means you gotta totally change the 'insides' of roms and stuff to make it compatible with mine. It'll probably be a waste of time if I post those 2 guys here.
Can you help me, bro?

Just take a backup your current ROM by t.w.r.p before flashing ROM(if something goes wrong).

Yeah, I know where you're getting at bro. Let me ask you this, does it not annoy you to death when you're restoring the same backup ROMs frequently just because suddenly your device can't use wi-fi (bugged) or tether, or maybe one of the issues above occur and you just gotta try your best to keep it 'clean'.. again.. and again.. and again? I just need a damn good daily driver without issues for crying out loud :cyclops:

Yeah.. It didnt make a difference..

that's all are happening 'cause of source code modification of lineage from cyanogen which caused your device unfavorable base code modification, only thing can be done is flash stock rom, bootloader, recovery, modem, everything using fastboot.

So in other words "bye-bye" to custom roms right? I'm in latest stable global miui 8 btw (LP), I clean flashed it via download mode, those problems still show up though. Okay let me just try to flash miui via fastboot or download mode again.

yeah, after problem bring fixed completely, you can come back to custom roms.

Unknown number - VoLTE incoming calls

All incoming calls are Unknown number (no caller number visible) when VoLTE is activated. No issues with outgoing calls (that does make sense). When VoLTE is deactivated, everything works okay. Turning the feature on/off, also with enable/disable carrier check, does not solve anything. Multiple reboots done. Everything worked okay on my Mi Mix 2S with the same SIM-card yesterday, so I'm guessing it's a software issue.
MIUI Global 10.3.7 (PFJEUXM)
Anyone with the same issue? Is it working okay for anyone?
This used to happen to me on the note 5 AI.. And it got fixed after an update.
Hi, where did you find the VoLTE setting?
You probably have to disable carrier check first (*#*#86583#*#* and dial). Then you will have VoLTE option in call settings. Today was a new OTA but the issue is still present for me.
same here... Mi 9t activated volte and now unknown caller.
I wanted to try VOLTE since my calls are so bad I cant understand what callers are saying.
I have the same problem
K20 Pro
MIUI China 10.3.17
I have a MI 9T Global running version 10.3.11.0 PFJMIXM (and if I'm not mistaken the OP's version 10.3.7 (PFJEUXM) is not global but China based EU..)
My provider is T-Mobile Germany and caller-ID with VoLTE is working just fine.
Can it be that it's a problem with china based ROMs (like the EU version)?
Cheers Helmuth
Well, I managed to get in contact with distributer for Mi phones for our country, got their unit (mine was bought from Amazon ES) and reproduced the problem - I didn't pay attention to ROM version on their unit. They've logged it and said that they've forwarded the issue to the devs. Hopefully it'll get resolved sometime in the near future - for now the issue is the same on 10.3.12.0 (PFJEUXM).
I have same issue on global as eu. My provider checked everything and there was no misconfiguration on their side. so, reading these posts I think its phone related. CallerId outgoing is ok, incoming no name.
Mi 9T 128GB
Miui EU 10.3.15
Have the same issue on my Mi 9T Pro. Will this ever be fixed? If I go to Lineage or different Roms will that issue persist then too?

For me it's the same, for some reason we can't enter diag mode I think. Tried a lot of stuff, all not working. E.g; https://xiaomifirmware.com/guides-and-tips/enter-diag-mode-backup-imei-using-qpst/
Which rom are you using?

Sorry for the confusion, I meant the top part of the guide with three different methods to access DIAG Mode. For me the IMEI is also fine.
If you are using the miui rom you may also try this; https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80159761&postcount=83 (specifically the two steps Additionnal fixing can be made using the app "Activity Manager" listed at the beginning), for this you need Activity Manager (also mentioned by Ratje_nl); https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-activity-manager-hidden-activity-t3797985. This does not work on AOSP roms I think, I couldn't find the apks at least. I know this is all kind of messy, since there's little information we have to use a lot of different guides.
I am using Pixel Experience by the way.

So I also managed to get it working using this guide. I used Netherlands_Vodafone_LTE (I'm on the KPN network in The Netherlands), but I can confirm it is working.
Trick for me was to switch to a different rom, I am using Lineage OS instead of PE+, so you may give it a try as well if it still does not work.
