*Moto Display Screen Timeout Issue* - Droid Maxx 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Using Droid Maxx 2 running "6.0.1" With Moto Display for ambient notifications.
When I receive the notification, The ambient screen only stays lit for at most 3 seconds,
No option for Moto Display screen timeout.
Only timeout option is for screen timeout under regular settings, under display timeout, which is not the settings for Moto Display for the ambient screen.
Any way to change the settings for this in the Moto App? Please help.

Moto Display At Night

Has anyone else wanted to turn off Moto Display at night? It doesn't wake me up but the option would be nice.
Googling the issue, it seems that the Moto X has or used to have the option to set times where the display stays off. However, those options were for Active Display, not Moto Display. It's slightly annoying that they took this option away.
I have the 2013 Moto X and yes the Active Display options in settings has the ability to set a time frame where it turns Active Display off. This is on KitKat 4.4.4. If the Droid Turbo doesn't have that ability, I'm sure it will be added soon. They advertise using Moto Actions to wave off alarms, but who will use it as an alarm clock if you can't shut off a pulsing light. Luckily they should be able to update just the app to provide that ability. I would definitely leave feedback on their app page for Moto Display in Google Play Store.
Maybe not super useful, but if you put the Moto X face down, I believe it disables active display. In the case of the Turbo, putting it face down may do the same, or will at least hide the light...

You can go to the Moto app and then to Assist. That has an option for a sleep schedule where you can mute the phone during your sleep times as well as turn off the display. That will turn off Moto Display at night.

Moto display keeps pulsing when receiving a notification

Hi,
I use moto display without gesture detection. When i receive a notification (mail, text message, ...) the screen turns on and slowly turns off which is the expected behaviour. But then the screen keep turning on/off indefinitely until i open the notification or dismiss it.
Do you have the same behaviour ?
Moreover this behaviour is not linked to any phone mouvement as it is just laid on the table without any vibration that could wake it up.
It seems to me that this new bahaviour appeared with MM.
Either you disable Moto display for notifications or slide the unlock icon to the right so it will dismiss the notification on moto display but not on the notifications bar.
Yes, but do you confirm that this is the expected behaviour ?
I thought it was supposed to turn the screen on just one time and not to turn my screen into a christmas tree. Moto display is supposed to save our battery life, not sure it is going to reach that target with this behaviour, especially with a screen that is not an amoled...

It's gonna pulse every minute or so for about 10 minutes I believe. Then it stops. If your phone is face down, it won't pulse at all.
Thanks for your feedback, too bad that we can't configure it, it's way too long by default imo.
I had a problem with the Lollipop and now the MM versions of the Moto Display. You can dismiss the notification, but it will start pulsing again for the same notification a little while later, with nothing new happening. Wasn't too bad with Lollipop, because I just switched to Ambient display which worked perfect. Now Ambient is gone for some reason.

I've checked, i don't have this behaviour on my side, once the notification is dismissed it stops pulsing... i don't understand how it can be different from one phone to another.
Edit : How did you switch to Ambient display btw ?
I haven't found a way to switch to Ambient on MM, you can only turn off Moto Display which gives you no notifications at all! It was easy with Lollipop, just go to the Moto settings and choose which display version you want.
Well it could be acceptable to turn it off with a notification led...

Maybe unfortunately for some, Motorola got rid of Ambient Display in MM.

Display Ambient won't turn off on 7.1.1

I updated my Nexus 6p to 7.1.1 and display ambient still works even if in settings is turned off, anyone with this problem or any ideas how to fix that?
It's been split into two functions:
- Ambient display: Show notifications when arrive
- Moves: Lift to check phone
Thanks you very much

Active Display on Moto G5+

Hi, coming from nexus device with rgb led and lightflow app
Moto g5+ is one of the candidate for upgrade, i'm interested in how active display on g5+ works.
Does the active display turns on the screen when you get notification, and than turns off the screen and that's it? or you can set to pulse from time to time, so it's always visible?
tnx
bump, can anyone please confirm? i have to buy new device soon and it's would be an important feature
Out of the box, it shows up on notifications, but you can set a clock as a screensaver to get the "always on" feel. 3rd party Roms also bring ambient display support. Additionally, there are a bunch of apps you can get off the play store which do the same type of thing. The possibilities are endless

Nokia 6 SystemUI Tuner

I used an app named Activity Launcher and found under SystemUI an activity called System UI demo mode(com.android.systemui.DemoMode).
There it has three categories; status bar, Do Not Disturb and Ambient Display
Under Ambient Display there is an Always On toggle. After setting this to on and powering off the screen the Pixel Ambient Display shows of but only for a few seconds. After that it blinks for a few times before it goes completely off. If you trigger the Ambient Display with the proximity sensor it does the same routine. Why is this happening? Is there a way to fix that blinking?
