I have moto g4 Amazon variant running MPJ24.139-48, I'm unable to receive the latest OTA i.e MPJ24.139-64, I've tried using VPN too. Also I get "No Command" error in recovery. I received the phone in this situation, please take a look at the screenshots and tell me what have been tweaked with it.
Thanks in advance.

To get into recovery from the No Command screen, you hold the power button down and hit Vol Up. The recovery screen should appear.
Also, you can just download the full -64 firmware from various places and flash it with fastboot. Go here: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=24651430732237342

US hasn't gotten an official OTA. It's only a soak test for some phones on Republic Wireless or some ****.
Anyway, I highly recommend unlocking your bootloader and using custom ROMs because Lenovo is really, really bad with OTAs and security updates.

Not everyone has received it yet.
Update received only those who had -64, but other Amazon Prime versions are still in process. Your update will come. I am waiting on my Amazon Prime G4 as well.
If you can not wait to wait, you can use the fastboot and flashfile.xml and get version -64, after which you will receive an OTA Update Android 7.0; Under One's Responsibility

Hi...
This is the tutorial to root any Moto G
To root any Moto G, three basic steps need to be followed... you can either do them manually or use a tool do them for you. It is advised to follow them manually so that if there's some bug in the tool you don't get into any trouble.
CAUTION - You will lose all data and files so better back them up.
For Google Play edition devices, the process is same and only the recovery.img file is different. For GPe CWM Advanced Edition recovery go here https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/ and select falcon_gpe and download the latest one.
For AT&T and Verizon models don't do anything written above. Just download the Towelroot app. Its a one click root app and doesn't require a PC. Itis trustworthy but is not guaranteed to work but you must give it a try since it won't do any harm and claims of never bricking a phone. Please reply with the result and your android and kernel version. It will probably not work on phones build after June 3 but you can give it a try. You can download it from the website https://towelroot.com
The three steps are :-
1) UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER
2) FLASHING CUSTOM RECOVERY
3) INSTALLING SuperSu.zip FILE THROUGH RECOVERY. (SuperSu is acknowledge as the best app to give superuser and root rights)
UNLOCKING THE BOOT LOADER - The instructions to unlock the boot loader are given in the official Motorola website here https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a . Don't be scared by their warnings.
UPDATE - There currently seems to be an issue with unlocking the bootloader on devices running 4.4.4 though it works for 4.4.2. The issue is with Motorola and is that, the unlock code given by the company is showing an error. They are fixing it and it may take some time though you can give it a try as it won't do any harm. Or you can downgrade the boot loader to 4.4.2 and then unlock it.
As confirmed by the Motorola agent, the problem of unlocking bootloader on 4.4.4 has been fixed
FLASHING CUSTOM RECOVERY :-
To flash a custom recovery, you need these things
1) PC and a USB data cable
2) Android SDK ( developer.android.com/sdk/index.html ) For flashing recovery only SDK is needed but it's your wish if you want to download the ADT bundle. After downloading and unzipping the sdk , open the SDK manager and download only the platform tools for this.. rest is your wish..... and separately download ADB tools and fastboot and extract them minimal-adb-and-fastboot.software.informer.com/1.1/
3) Recovery.img file - You can either use CWM foum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563599 or CWM advanced editionforum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639583 or TWRP forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2561757. EDIT - If your phone had come pre installed with 4.4.4 then use only CWM Advanced Edition. CWM Advanced Edition doesn't make backup on XT1033
4) Motorola drivers https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/97326/p/30,6720,9050
5) Enable USB Debugging mode in your phone by going to Settings-About Phone and then tap the build number until you get the toast 'You are a developer'. Now go to Settings again and you will see a new Developer Options there. Go there and enable USB debugging.
6) Have at least 25% of charge on your phone.
After getting all these things:-
1) Download the recovery.img file to your PC and copy paste it to android SDK/platform tools folder.
2) Boot your phone to fastboot mode by first switching it off and holding the volume down and power button for 3 seconds.
3) When in fastboot mode, connect your phone to pc, go to the platform tools folder, there pres shifft and right mouse click simultaneously and select 'open command prompt window here'.
4) In the command window enter
Code:
fastboot devices
If it shows a number and fastboot then we are good..
5) Then enter
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
( where in recovery.img the recovery is the name of your recovery file. Example if the name of recovery file is ABC then enter fastboot flash recovery ABC.img)
5) Press enter and if the command prompt window displays the message okay then the recovery is successfully flashed.
6) Now just boot your phone to recovery mode through fastboot mode by following the on screen instructions and in recovery mode select Reboot System Now to reboot your phone normally.
(see attached images below for screenshots)
INSTALLING SuperSu
To install SuperSu :-
1) Download SuperSu zip file download.chainfire.eu/452/SuperSU/ and transfer it to your phone
2) Reboot to recovery via fastboot.
3) Select install zip and select choose from SD card.
4) Locate the file and install it.
5) Now reboot your phone.
YUP.. YOU ROOTED YOUR PHONE!
Download any root checker app from the Play Store to check whether your phone is rooted or not.

The only thing why I haven't bought the g for myself as well is the rooting. That time I didn't find an easy way to root it.
If it is a working method than I will buy the 4g verson with sd card support

I looked into it just now... Currently there's an issue with Motorola with unlocking the bootloader when on 4.4.4...As people say, the unlock code given my Motorola is showing an error... You can still try it.. maybe it's even fixed by now.. Even if it fails there wouldn't be any harm.. Though the unlocking works fine with 4.4.2... You can revert back to 4.4.2, unlock the bootloader and then update to 4.4.4... The thing will be same as you will lose all data and files when unlocking the bootloader and so in reverting to 4.4.2.....(Remember, only unlocking doesn't mean you won't recieve updates, you won't receive updates only if you flash a custom recovery.)
EDIT - I added it to the OP. Thanks for bringing it to attention.

You have Verizon I see. The only you will probably face is unlocking the bootloader.. Oh, wait first let me laugh... lol...OK....At one point of time you couldn't unlock the bootloaders for AT&T and Verizon and then we were blessed by the 'one click root' app by the famous hacker geohot called TowelRoot. This app claims to root all the AT&T and Verizon devices with just a click. You don't even need a PC. Just download the app and in the app chick 'make it rain'. Though this is not guaranteed to work but must give a try as it won't do any harm but there's a chance of bricking the phone but you can easily recover from a soft brick by flashing the stock firmware.
Towelroot - https://towelroot.com/
P.S. - Please reply if you tried this and if it didn't work reply with your android version and kernel version. Well reply with your android version and kernel version anyway.
Edit- I added it to the OP

Yeah they say, if you on 4.4.4 and want to unlock your bootloader you have to flash the motoboot_testdrive.img file wich downgrades the bootloader to i think it was called 40.15 or so after that you have to unlock your bootloader and then flash the motoboot 4.4.4 stock image so that you have the actual one but for me it failed while i try to flash this testdrive image

So basically you want to downgrade the bootloader and then unlock it?
Well if you are on KitKat you can downgrade the bootloader by flashing 4.3 , then unlocking the bootloader and then updating to KitKat

I'm exactly the same problem, unlocked the bootloader,
I'm using the stock retail Br 4.4.4 and it did not work,
someone help?
I dont know what to do!
The link for Brazil Retail 4.4.4 is dead. Please re-upload the ROM again preferably on Devhost or Mediafire.
This might be weird but no matter what key combination I try after choosing recovery from bootloader I just cannot see the extra options. So I am unable to flash the new OS. My phone is running on 4.4.4 brazil version and the boot loader is unlocked (status:3)
Edit: The actual procedure is as follows (it worked like this on my phone):
1. Enter recovery
2. Hold volume up key for about 10 seconds
3. While still holding the volume up key press the power button and hold both the keys for few seconds
4. Release and you'll have the option to install from SD card.
This thread will be for the Canadian version of ZE552KL, and will be updated with specific info relevant to Z012DC model found in Canada (Canada Computers, Staples, other retailers). It has WW SKU number.
It took me a while and some searching to figure all steps out. I also modified Asus N and M firmware to remove version checks. Without this step - i was stuck with error 7 in TWRP. The only difference between Z012D and Z012DC seems to be in Fastboot and ADB drivers, TWRP recovery, system images seem to work well so far.
Steps:
1. Download Fastboot and ADB Drivers. For me usb driver on ZE552KL Asus download page didn't work. Select "Only install driver", you do not need to update your drivers via DRP.
Fastboot driver (for Vendor VID_18D1&PID_D00D): http://drivers.drp.su/Telephone/Hua...03.00/Huawei-FORCED-Allx64-2.00.03.00-drp.exe
ADB Driver (for VID_18D1&PID_D002): http://drivers.drp.su/Telephone/Leshcat/WinAll/Leshcat-WinAll-drp.exe
2. Save the following files on your External SD Card:
Modified M image UL-ASUS_Z012D-WW-13.20.10.152-user.zip
Modified N image UL-ASUS_Z012D-WW-14.2015.1701.8-user.zip
SuperSU - latest version from here
no-verity-opt-encrypt-5-1.zip. Give thanks to @kaffeine1 , without him - we would all be stuck with black screens
3. Save ADB and Fastboot files on your computer, and extract; give thanks to @snowwolf725
4. Download newer recovery (TWRP 3.1.0) from here
5. Unlock bootloader via unofficial unlock method; give thanks to @snowwolf725
6. Get into fastboot by turning off the phone, and pressing volume up + power. Install recovery that you downloaded in step #4:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.0-0-Z012D.img
7. Follow the steps this guide by @kaffeine1 . Skip the steps of downloading Nougat and Marshmallow firmware from Asus site, as you have already downloaded and saved both firmwares in Step #2 . Also skip the last step - do not reboot into Nougat, but go back to fastboot mode.
8. Root Nougat - follow steps under #2 here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3/how-to/twrp-recovery-3-0-2-root-zenfone-3-t3569926
How to update to the latest version of OS:
1. Go to Asus Site, download latest WW image UL-ASUS_Z012D-WW-14.2020.1703.28-user.zip
2. Extract UL-ASUS_Z012D-WW-14.2020.1703.28-user.zip\META-INF\com\google\android\updater_script , edit, remove first two lines, and put back into the zip file (e.g. using 7zip)
3. Extract from above zip file boot.img , and flash it via: fastboot flash boot boot.img
4. Flash recovery: fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.0-0-Z012D.img
5. Reboot into recovery, and flash:
- Firmware that you modified in #2
- no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip
- Latest SuperSU
- Rooted.zip (from step #8 above)
6. Reboot mobile, and enjoy new version!

I noticed that in some cases TWRP doesn't "stick", and gets overridden by default bootloader. Specific check is essentially useless - just to prevent flash of improper image. Just remove the check in the new FW, or use modified FW that has the check removed. I think in your case you can just re-flash TWRP since your bootloader is unlocked?
I tryed several TWRP 3.02 and 3.10 if a boot imge ... if entered bootloader with volum key + power it says all ok but booting never happens... if i enter bootloader trough adb it stucks until i disconnect and reconnect usb cable. when trying to flash. fast boot returns error not have permision and side load error secttion 7 on UL modified or else footer w
error after passing check. i shall try modiffying UL 13.20.10 and see what happens

flash modified images through twrp - with links in OP
Well my wife liked the phone so much, that she "kindly requested" me to gift it to her... now she is the proud owner of a canadian vertion of ZE552KL and i got myself a ZS570KL
thanks a lot for all your help.
P.D. : i think she was not happy with the time i was spending with the device.
I know this is going to sound super dumb, but the unofficial bootloader unlock still triggers the bootup message and voids the warranty, right?
This might be even dumber... But my guess is that the official app to unlock boot loader, does more than unlock,
My guess is that it also register with asus mobile, the fact that for your device has been unlocked...

That's what some manufacturers do, like Motorola and HTC. But from back when I unlocked the BL on my Zenfone 2 Laser, I remember that all it did (as far as I could tell) was unlock the bootloader and set a flag in the bootloader that made it say it was unlocked that couldn't be reversed. No need for fancy registration systems when you can just boot up the phone and take a look.
What was modified in your N-image firmware file? There is now a newer version that I'd like to install. Can you provide an updated modified file for version WW-14.2020.1703.28 or give the steps needed to modify it myself?

Updated OP with instructions regarding how to upgrade to the latest version of N - just tested steps myself. Should be applicable to all future versions of N posted on Asus site. Enjoy!
I was flashing a rom and followed all the steps correctly: unlocked bootloader, flashed twrp, rooted and then flashed. Everything worked fine on the first go but the phone app was foreclosing instantly so i rebooted into recovery to wipe data and cache. After doing that my device is now stuck on 'Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted....' message, it's just stuck there.
I tried powering off by pressing the power off button, it goes off for a second and then the same message comes back again. Same with trying to enter into recovery mode by pressing power and vol down button...it just comes back and gets stuck on the same scree.

You need to flash the stock firmware via fastboot.
Here are the instructions:

Okay! First of all make sure you've adb installed on your Windows.
And proper drivers are installed too, if not you should install moto drivers manually after disabling driver signature enforcement in windows.
Then download this file. ( a blank flash)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4243974&d=1502948672
Now connect your phone to PC.
And run the blank flash (.Bat) file you downloaded, your phone should start to bootloader.
After that follow the instructions from previous post.
I recovered my moto g5 plus RETIN this way only.
For some weird reason, i was able to get into recovery mode only after pressing both the volume buttons and the power buttons...
flashed the rom again, and everything is fine now
hi

Ok, thanks.
Please dont ask for files because I cant linked them...
But I'll give you steps if I can remember...
Get Moto G5+ ToolKit....(its searchable on XDA)
Get one of the earliest Retail Potter Files( NOT CEDRIC) ...the one I used is POTTER_RETAIL_7.0_NPNS25.137-35-5_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
extract ROM in a clean folder
open ToolKit
put phone in fastboot ( volumn down + power)
select START
Connect Phone to PC ( Toolkit should turn Red to Yellow)
In Toolkit select "Flash Stock ROM"
navigate to your Folder with Stock ROM and select folder
when you click open it will flash...
wait till , in LOG, it says reboot about 2-3-mins
Go to phone and select POWER OFF
restart phone and let it do its thing
you still wont have cellular
shut down phone
Boot back to FastBoot "START"
Nowback in ToolKit
click in order Flash TWRP.....Flash boot_image......flash wlan_custom
I believe after wlan flash it will reboot in TWRP
while in there Install wlan_custom
Power Off and reboot phone
your cellular should be back ( I hope)
let me know
do not do OTA updates...TWRP will boot and your messed up again...
My next step is to install 64 TWRP and then an OREO Rom
wish us luck!!!
If you want OTA update s
Go repeat putting STOCK ROM back on Phone with ToolKit
