Yes, of course... All retail Moto's on Marshmallow have an unlockable bootloader and are rootable. Just do your homework, the new systemless method will make life much easier than it was over a year ago.
A link in my signature may help (hint, hint)

Yep, mine came with the May security and was able to root and unlock bootloader

Thanks for your help guys.

Has anyone received this update? My wife just got it tonight, and she INSTANTLY accepted it. I can't find a single reference to it and I'm a little nervous about the nature of it. Can anyone confirm that this is a legitimate version of the software?
Received last night, everything works as usual, security patch level March 1st
Also Received
I also received however, mine has Android security patch level 2/1/2017. Just letting you know your wife's not alone in getting the patch.
Its April and there sending out a February Security Patch, epic fail. LMAO LG
just keep in mind that this DOES patch dirtycow so no root will be possible.
Possible to revert to original?
Even though this blocks rooting, would it be possible to revert to an older update that is still rootable?

No because there is no KDZ for an older version.

New Project Fi 6P stuck on MM 6.0.1 and Dec. 1, 2015 security patch

Purchased my Nexus 6P a couple of weeks ago from Project Fi and it is still stuck on MM 6.0.1 and Dec. 1, 2015 security patch. Google support says to just wail longer for ota to update but will not offer up any time frame for update to arrive before I should assume that update system is simply stuck. Thoughts on whether phone just stuck on MM or whether it will update shortly. Most concerned about 2015 security patch! Thanks.

Hello,
I would just sideload latest 7.1.2 N2G47H OTA from Google here: https://developers.google.com/android/ota
There is an easy tutorial explaining the process. If you're not sure, let me know...
Otherwise you can wait till you have an update notification. Though there's no time frame as to when it will come to you.
Good luck...

I agree with @5.1. The fastest, least hassle-free way to get to 7.1.2 is to just flash the full April image. You could also try borrowing a SIM from somebody on a different network and popping that in. Let the phone start up and wait for their cellular network to be displayed in the notification bar. Then power down and put your SIM back in. Works, but you are liable to set yourself up for a series of updates. I would also recommend you leave your bootloader unlocked and USB debugging enabled.

Hi! New to the 6p (completely) but not to flashing/mods/etc. Can this be flashed with TWRP or only via ADB? Anything I should be aware of on an unlocked/rooted nexus w/ProjectFi? Assume I will have to re-root - is this correct?
Thanks!

Are you sure that this will work? I didn't see anything on the security patch being supported? He only listed a T-Mobile edge security patch

The root kernel listed will work with all version.of the os you root, 6.0.1 or 7.0. There have been no posts about certain security updates not running root right, just the posts about supersu updates causing glitches. You'll be fine
So just to understand, security updates are irrelevant if the android version matches?
It's been awhile since I've rooted anything, just trying to get the basics down to avoid a brick.

Yeah. The better news is that using Odin and flashing any of the flushable packages through Odin for any carrier will not brick your phone as long as it is a non-Chinese snapdragon variant. So vzw, unlocked, AT&T...whatever your flavor. Devs have hybrid roms that run without root and provide some customization as well.
just did this, sorry was away because of work. say's "custom unlock" now so it worked with no issues! Thank you!!!
@Dirtydcs
Thank you for posting that it worked helps keep info up to date for others.
I just got a SM-G930V from verizion and also have Android Version 7.0, I'm at Security patch level May 1, 2017 and have Baseband version G930VVRS4BQC9 and was wondering if this was the same baseband version you where running? When you rooted.
Thanks
Finger print issue can be fixed by just clearing the prints off your phone

How can I update stock and rooted XT1602 with may patch to latest 1 september one?

I have a rooted XT1602 with TWRP permanent with may security patch
Today I got notification about 1 September security patch, as it fixes many vulnerabilities, I want to upgrade to this patch. Should I just update using OTA or is there another way?
Well if you haven'tplayed with stock stuff, then go ahead or just take nandroid backup for safety and update it!
Thanks for the reply. I am worried about it getting bricked or losing IMEI number.
Are we sure nothing of that sort will happen? What is the worst that can happen?

New device Rootable?

I am thinking about getting this phone as it’s on sale now. Is the phone be able to be unlocked and rootable out of the box? What if it’s updated to latest version? Will it still be able to be unlocked and rootable?
Theoretically, yes, you can root, till you are on Oreo with June Security Patch. And you have to pay for that. Nokia had disabled the bootloader unlock vulnerability with the August patch.
My device came with August patch, unlucky me xD.
However, I know one guy who managed to convince Nokia service centre to downgrade his device to Oreo June Patch, back from Pie. He's also rooted and flashed GSI on his 6.1 Plus.
