Hi. I know I am posting in the Q&A for the zenfone 2 laser but I have to ask if, since zenfone 2 laser and zenfone go (ZB500KL) are virtually identical in the specs (except for the laser part), would it be possible to develop roms for the zenfone go, starting from the zenfone 2 laser? I noticed asus gives out the kernel source code. How hard is it to make a new rom from that? (Not complaining. Actually making a real question)
Thanks
Before you get to the custom ROM part you need an unlocked bootloader. I searched on google and I found that you can unlock the bootloader and there is an CM12.1 ROM. I'm not sure about stating from the zenfone laser but you could try it if you want. I'm not a developer btw..
Also I found something very cool if you are tired of ASUS's ZENUI. There is a mod that will convert the stock ASUS ROM to stock Android ROM but is only for [ZC500TG/Z00VD] so I don't know if this will work for (ZB500KL). I will post the links bellow.. Also don't forget that this is just an idea from a non-developer so sorry if this is not the answer. Maybe a developer will answer you but I don't think that will happen
CM12.1: http://www.asus-zenfone.com/2016/04/cyanogenmod-121-for-asus-zenfone-go.html
The mod I was talking about: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/mod-asus-zenfone-stock-android-t3460995

Hi. thank you for your response and sorry for the late reply. that rom is made for the first zenfone go (launched along the zenfone 2 series). The ZB500KL was launched in late 2016 in it's own segment. From my research there is no known way to unlock the bootloader or any rom available for that matter. That's why I asked if there could be a possibility of a port, or it the hardware similarities between the two phones facilitate the development of new ones

Hi! No problem!
There is no way to port a ROM for your phone if your bootloader is locked because you need TWRP and that needs an unlocked bootloader. There are some phones where you can use TWRP and flash a custom ROM with locked bootloader ( here is an example ) but I don't know if you can do that on Zenfone Go or any Asus device.
Edit: Another example where you can flash TWRP on locked bootloader: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ze...root-how-to-root-ze550kl-marshmallow-t3409264
Sorry for that stupid question, but is there any Q&A for ZB500KL? I cannot find it, and I don't want to post to ZenFone 2 Q&A. Thanks

Hello there!
I've noticed the resources for us using the ZE500CL variant of the ZenFone 2 line of phones are few and far between, so I decided to make this list of methods I personally tested for rooting, unlocking the bootloader and temporarily flashing TWRP (tethered recovery).
I apologize in advance if I'm breaking any forum rules, but I'll make sure to credit everyone who's guides and files I'll be presenting here. I am only posting this to help fellow ZE500CL owners in finding all the necessary tools and methods for various things they need. None of the tools and guides below are my work, all credit goes to their original creators.
I'll update this when I test more things, so keep an eye on this post in the future
NEW: Untethered (permanent) TWRP! You can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/guide-twrp-2-8-7-0-custom-recovery-t3328155
Root
Both methods worked for me, but I'd still recommend the second method in combination with temporary (tethered) TWRP in the last guide. Credit: @Chinaphonearena

Unlock Bootloader
Please note: Only do this is you're absolutely sure you know what you're doing. Your warranty will be void and you will not receive further OTA updates. There are also NO CUSTOM ROMS for this phone. I am not responsible for damage to your device.
So, we've finally officially got the Bootloader Unlock tool from ASUS. It was uploaded in the "Driver & Tools" section on the ASUS ZenFone 2 ZE500CL official page just yesterday (I've checked it two days ago, it wasn't there, so it was most likely yesterday). I've got the information from this ZenFone 2 ZE500CL ZenTalk Forum post. I tried it, and it worked perfectly!
You can download it from here:
ZenFone 2 (ZE500CL) - Support
Temporary (Tethered) TWRP
This works like a charm tethered, but I didn't try flashing it. When I find one that works, I'll update this post with new information. If any of you find one before me, please notify me This one was, after all, not built specifically for the ZE500CL. Credit: @TheSSJ

Xposed Framework
I've attempted this one, and it worked. Use the tethered TWRP to flash, and be sure your phone is rooted and has BusyBox installed. Credit: @ansebovi
Guide:

I hope this was helpful. Again, the only intention of this post was to help out fellow ZE500CL users, since it's hard to find necessary tools for this device.
Thanks to all the wonderful people of XDA for working on the projects and helping out in the forums!
Guys, just curious to know if we, Zenfone 5 owners be lucky enough to get Android 7.0 Nougat. Are any ROM experts already working on this? Thanks guys for the awesome work on other ROMs. :good: :highfive:

@v1n0d Stop asking for nougat, we are lucky that we received marshmallow, devs are doing the possible to make nougat
And, just PLEASE, when you start typing the title, check for similar threads who are asking the same question (It'll show links when you start typing). So instead of creating new thread everytime, just post on the relevant thread.
Stop making thread asking for nougat, and please, do not bother developers.
Hello, can someone try this tutorial to port MIUI rom? I have not got unlocked bootloader, so I can not try it. If there will be someone interest in this. Try it, please.

Wrong SECTION. You should have posted this in Questions & Answers
It is probably almost impossible:
1 ) We need clear AOSP as a base because if not there will be so freaking much bugs to resolve that it is not worth it
2 ) MIUI require special porting way for diferent socs there are diferent sources for snapdragon, diferent for mediatek but did not see any for our kirin
3 ) It need a lot of testing reainstalling so there need to be someone who can live without his p9 Lite
4 ) There is needed someone who knows how linux works and someone who know good miui rom
5 ) Maybe it would be possible with AOSP as a base but we dont have it and it is hard to port clear aosp so will not even sit with this
6 ) You have stock EMUI which is similar you dont need MIUI
7 ) I dont have actually time to even put linux in virtual machine so wont do this
8 ) This thread is in wrong section so need to be moved to q&a but I think I answered you question
9 ) Even if it is possible you will not even try this because you have locked bootloader. So if you will unlock it to install rom so why not to unlock it now and build it on your own? Just learn how to do this. For me on my old phone it did get a week to have a booting rom. But there was clear AOSP. Here I dont know will be longer so go ahead and good luck
OK changed my mind. Will try to build based on cm13 but nothing to promise and dont know when will find some time so dont expect anything
Thank you for your post
I'm confused. Some thread that I found says "..this is for Z00L/Z00LD", and that confused me. I looked up Z00LD on google, and it returned "ZE550KL". And everytime I search ZE550KL in XDA, Z00LD will always come up. hlp plox

Thank you very much, Dear
If MODEL NUMBER ASUS_Z00LD is the same as ASUS_Z00L what does the D signify?
I am looking for the best info that will allow my to flash a new ROM on my phone but I am getting a bit confused by all the various Model/Build numbers -
My phone is a Zenfone 2 Laser (ZE550KL)
ASUS_Z00LD Build number MMB29P.WW_user_21.40.1220.2087_20170331 060020715_201602190037
from various threads on XDA I have read that I can use the unlock tool for the ZE600KL, and that I should flash the latest TWRP for the Z00L or Z00LD - does that sound right? and/or is there a thread where the info I want is collected in one place?
My aim is to flash a few roms and then eventually build a ROM to flash myself. If that all works out I have a ZE551ML_Z00AD with a broken screen that I willl have a go at.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I guess that D means DUAL, for dual SIM models.

Hi there,
I just got my brand new Redmi Note 7.
It's been many years that I don't mod my Android phones and since I don't like much MIUI i would like to change OS.
So it's a silly question, i've searched for other threads but I didn't find anything (so if you find any other threads talking about this please link it to me):
I'm a newby about this, with a new phone looking for the best mod for stability and speed (used mainly for workd and daily routines - banking etc), therefore how should i proceed? How do i install TWRP or any other good recovery?
I need a fresh and simple Android OS (stock one if possible or Lineage OS)
Do i need to send an email to Xiaomi to unlock my phone? (i'm asking because i've read several times this)
I want to install also Google Camera and xposed
Thanks for the help and sorry i'f it's a double post.
Look in the guide thread
Basically u need to unlock bootloader via Xiaomi tools first. Then it's like every other phone. There is an all in one guide in the Guides section of RN7 device forum.
