Let's gather all the great "Did you know?" facts about Honor 8!
I'll start with what was a pleasant surprise for me:
1. Did you know flash optimized f2fs filesystem is used for internal storage? (why that is impressive? )

Updating the list with new findings:
Did you know...
2. Starting with EMUI 5 default camera has gained support for RAW format?
3. You can take a quick shot by double pressing volume down? (with the screen being off)
4. Kirin 950 (the SoC used in honor 8) Geekbench 4 multicore score beats exynos 8890 and Snapdragon 821?
what does that do
Did you know that on Honor and Huawei devices, it plays ambient music when it snows?

Gives you better disk I/O performance.
XDA and anadtech measured the OP3 transition from ext4 to f2fs and mentioned noticeable improvement:

Not joking! I'm not sure how to reproduce It, but it happens when it is snowing. So if you're somewhere snowy, watch out for it!

Could it be this? This is the inbuilt weather app. I've never heard a thing and I live in the Midwest. I'll turn it on and see if it plays.

We had quite some snow for a few days and I opened the weather app, had this tones on and plugged my headphones, but no sound did I hear.. I'm on beta though.
By the way, I think the tones option is related with app background colors, not sounds.
I just found out these two things were possible in my Honor 8. At least in EMUI 5.0
1. Lockscreen wallpaper scrolling.
2. and Lockscreen shortcuts pull up bar.
Probably I'm the only one that didn't know about this. Oh well, is my very first Huawei phone, not counting my wife's Honor 5x which she does not let me touch it at all. I wonder why?

Hi guys, just thought I'd let you all know about a free cool new app I've released on Play Store
DockClock allows you to turn your S5 (or S4) into a cool clock while it's docked or simply charging, and is specifically made for AMOLED screens which only light up the pixels they're using which creates an awesome effect, especially at night.
It also moves the clock randomly every 15 seconds to counter the renowned burn-in effect suffered by AMOLED screens.
Download it now from Play Store!

Wow. Much needed app for me.

Great app. Just what need. Only problem is sometimes on my S5 clock is outside of screen. I can see hours but not the minutes...

Thanks for the feedback, I only have sub-1080 screen phones so was kind of hard guessing the X and Y for the locations of the clock. Easy to change, looks like it needs reducing a little on the X. Shall change this now, expect update in next couple hours.

Right that last update should have sorted it.
Lots of trial and error using an AVD in 1080p which nearly made the computer go into meltdown and was terminally slow, got there in the end
Enjoy.
Hello xda members i developed a simple app based on the idea of cpu spy and Cpu Spy reborn with some aded functionality to help you debug any of the problems on the device; )
The application does list you all the frequency states as similar in cpu spy but with a flat design and much pleasant to look than the first version.
It also gives you the possibility to see cpu temp battery temp and information such as charging current the actual voltage the battery has etc
PS: Hope you like it and please hit the thanks button
The App has been reworked with material design guidelines in mind, it has simpler code and it is faster than before.
My goal for this app is not to add features,This app Will stay simple as it is,with maybe a couple more details in the future updates
It works only on Lollipop
For KK and below keep the older version
credits :
@Mirko ddd for some parts of the code
@Brandon Valosek for the idea )

Very nice app. May I suggest to compress the frequency view so you don't have to scroll down as much?

I tried that and it looks great but then i thought many people change their dpi so it gets you the same effect! If i lower it more,it will look bad on others devices. Anyway i will test it and see what i will do thnx
Congrats for this nice, beautiful and clean app :good:
Any plans for real time monitoring , without having to "refresh" ?
And, idk, but i believe we could stand a few more permissions in order to have such a beautiful widget :victory:

Many phones offer a similar feature, I know Samsung does and I think LG might as well.

Coming from an S5 myself, I can say this implementation from Motorola is much improved or better. I actually had it disabled on the S5 (along with everything else) as it did not work very well.
On Turbo it is picking up detection even in a very dark room and it actually re-initializes the screen if it goes dim. I'm keeping my sleep at 15-30 seconds with this feature.
My Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 has this feature. Doesn't work very well at night time where the Turbo seemed to pick up my face no problem in just about pitch black conditions. Very happy with it and leave them both on as well!
@geoff5093, just realized you are like 20 minutes from me, I am from Londonderry, actually go through Goffstown just about every other weekend to play paintball in Weare... small world!

everything is fine with this device except emui.
there is lot of added features bt it resembles more of ios than android

it may not be stock android but at least it isn't a shameless apple ripoff. EMUI 5 comes out sometime in October or November since the honor 8 is new it should get the update almost immediately

Don't worry it's still moving but pixel by pixel it is not noticeable for us.

Not pixel by pixel, but sometimes it is on top of the display, sometimes on the bottom, sometimes in the middle. Position changes every day I think.

Yes, that's new too, it shows what song is playing on whichever player U have. But notifications from apps like facebook, whatsapp etc. are still not available. I hope they will bring that feature with 7.0
Sadly, the update doesn’t enable third-party app notifications
