Yep, you'll need another carriers sim card though for the unlock prompt to pop up when you reboot the device. I always use www.unlockbase.com , Took about an hour to get the code the last time I ordered one. They also have top notch customer service and support!
I ended up going with h20 wireless so I didn't have to unlock. So glad I picked this phone up because man its beautiful but hopefully I don't keep hopelessly reading the forum looking for a bootloader unlock for months on end like I did with my Verizon s4 and s5. Hopefully at&t won't keep us locked down forever

Hahaha good one. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you, AT&T isn't know for its cooperation with developing communities. As long as the phones are branded, they stay locked. They also don't provide advanced features for non branded phones (WiFi calling, VoLTE, etc.).

See if @faux123 will improve the eng kernel, that would help greatly. I think that kernel is the only reason why we have root. So the problem is kernel stability, not ROM selection.
I went with an AT&T prepaid service so I didn't need to unlock but I'm having problems. I'm on the echo rom and I initially configured the phone with H20 apn settings and the service provider in the status bar said H20. Upon a reboot I can no longer access apn settings without a 3rd party app and my service provider in the status bar says at&t and sms no longer works. I can access apn settings through a 3rd party app after reboot and reset apns to default, pull sim, reboot and replace sim and re enter the H20 apn to get it working but it's getting pretty aggravating being I'm in the middle of modding what little I can so I'm rebooting several times a day.

Did each phone require it to me paid off?
If the phone keeps getting paid off in installment plans and I just wanted to use a different service, can I still unlock it?
Yes successfully unlocked Wife S7 Edge and my S7 via unlock unit site, both under contract, have only like 30 days with them and not paid off yet and got code in less than 10 min for both. On that site you have different options on prices cheaper ($18-$29) you have to wait like 3-4 days and more expensive,($41) in mins. I went for the expensive one I don't like to wait. ?
A friend from AT&T told me new phones have to be at least to be 30 days activated for systems to generate unlock codes for 3rd party sites to access.

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I purchased a used iPhone 7 and it seems like there was a balance on AT&T. It works fine on AT&T but I want to use it overseas in the next few weeks, and the only solution seems to pay someone on ebay $100 to remove the network lock. I tried a seller who charged $20 but it never worked. Does anyone know how these people do it? please pm me if you have any idea$ Thank you!

Yes. It's been discussed may times on here. We won't get the unlock until the Verizon version comes out. It has been unlocked, but for the sake of a quick OTA to patch the phones, the dev is waiting for the VWZ version to be released.

That's been discussed also. Doesn't look like AT&T is unlocking these devices yet. You could always pay ~$35 to a third party provider for unlock if you needed it now.

My phone doesnt ask for a unlock code, After i inserted a GSM SIM card of a different country (India), it allowed to phone turned on.
It did not ask anything else... However when i selected global Network Mode, It did not let me search available network operators. The option to search the network operator after switching to Global network mode was not available.
I wonder why! I am not sure even if i purchase a unlock code, where do i enter it?
There is a free alternative for unlocking just by accessing dialer code. Found a thread around here at some point.

I tried unlock-code-world and they never could generate the unlock code. They did however refund my money. I guess you could always try a more expensive website but I'm not sure what their results will be. I did however get my galaxy s for unlocked through AT&T customer service. I looked on the international data coverage maps and found a tourist location that would be a reasonable vacation spot for Americans but also did not have great coverage through AT&T international. I've been told them I was going on vacation you need to leave the country for about a month I said so that if I use their international plans my charges would be outrageous therefore it would not be smart to use a high price international plan for so long I've been brought up the fact about unlocking my phone to use a local SIM card in this area.because I had good payment history and was with the company for least a year the on lock my phone gave me on lock codes for all 3 of my lines all 3 galaxy phones. It will be a case by case basis they determined based on payment history like the service this situation you're about to embark on.I was on the phone about 30 minutes put on a good show discussed international plans various options I couldn't let them decide to unlock it not really force the issue of them unlock it for megive it a try care for hundred percent free
Hi, I recently bought a Samsung S4 from AT&T (sgh-i337) with 2 years contract and I wanted to know if I can unlock the sim carrier lock to use it outside the US, Im going to Italy for 3 weeks and I want to buy a sim over there since At&t's international plans are expensive, if its possible to unlock it wil I have any problems with at&t? I heard they usually block the phone.

Try this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285431
or this method if the first one didn't work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41580940&postcount=18
if both don't work use ebay, you'll find plenty of sellers that unlock the device for as low as $3.00. I got mine unlocked on ebay and i'm using it on a overseas LTE network with no problems whatsoever.
Hope this helps

Call AT&T and tell them you are going out of country. Sometimes they will give you an unlock code. Sometimes you have to try a couple of times (call and talk to different people). Sometimes they won't give you a code. If you try the "hidden menu" unlock, be careful, it can mess your phone up...read through the thread completely.
Best thing to do, if AT&T doesn't give you a code is to try one of the online sites such as cellunlocker.net.
Good luck.

They have no way to know if the phone is sim locked or not. They don't even car if you turn it off or use it on another carrier. As long as you pay your bill and are not abusing unlimited data (if you have it) - they leave you alone. They just want the monthly fee for 2 years.
I recently called ATT and was told that I would have to wait 90 days before they could give me unlock code. I didn't try again but have read about people being successful at getting code from ATT.

Good luck. The "Hidden menu" unlock has worked for many. However, if it doesn't work for you or if it screws your phone up in some way please do not make another thread about it. Several threads already exist that you can get information from others that tried it and screwed their phones up...just search for them. Of course, it won't do you any good because I haven't seen people find away to undo the damage (unable to unlock at all, worse reception, etc...). Hopefully, you won't need to search for them.
I used the hidden menu tutorial and can tell you it works perfect if you follow the direction right. I tested it with a t mobile sim and it worked also tried a European Vodafone and worked because I'm also going to Europe for 5 weeks.

It worked perfect for you but it doesn't work for everyone. Telling people it WILL work for them if they follow the directions right is misleading and dangerous. How do you know it WILL work for him? It is well known that people have followed the directions right and it did not work. It is also known that people have messed their phones up using the method. Can you guarantee that the "Golden backup" on his phone eliminates the network locks? How do you know the "Golden backup" on his phone won't lock his ability to use a sim-unlock code for ever...or worse?
Maybe it will work for him (it has for many), maybe it will not, but it IS HIS RISK and there are no guarantees, It is arrogant to suggest something will work for everyone just because it worked for you. Especially when it has been documented time and time again that it does not always work regardless of the directions followed. Are you are saying that everyone it didn't work for didn't follow the directions right?

As long as you are using Straight Talk "AT&T" nothing needs to be unlocked. You are still on AT&T, but just using a high-lag MNVO.
WHICH carrier is your Straight Talk SIM card using? Straight Talk resells service from all four major carriers.
If you're using Straight Talk "T-Mobile", then you've got a problem.

You probably dont need a pay service or any service at all to sim unlock it. AT&T has a website to unlock phones if they meet the criteria you just enter the info and they unlock it if you qualify.

Should have bought a Verizon model in that case since they come sim unlocked.
They unlock it only if you do not owe any money of the phone

This really sucks for me. I contacted them before ordering sim Unlock for T-Mobile USA. They said since all the services are down for T-Mobile through the official app they are doing it differently where I will have to use an app made by them to enter the unlock code. Everything was fine until today when I got email from them with unlock code and Network Unlock app. I followed there instruction but their app does nothing. its useless, its like a dummy app.
App says "Connecting to server..." while it doesn't even have internet access permission. I checked by disabling the wifi and mobile data, it was still functional (as expected because it had no internet excess) it prompted me to enter unlock code but it does nothing except for saying Permanently Unlocked it literally does nothing else after entering the code. Later on I tried entering wrong codes as well and it would still say Permanently Unlocked. I have sent them multiple emails and messages but no reply yet.
I am guess the unlock code they provided might be correct but there is no way to enter it on phone since it is T-Mobile variant and only Device Unlock App can enter the unlock code.
I bought a ATT version on day one of release and paid full retail at Best buy. Figured I can unlock via their site. Nope, in fact the IMEI # wasn't coming up at all. Kept saying it was not in the system. I called ATT but they couldn't help so I returned it and bought the Verizon version and works fine on Tmo via MintSim. Only bad thing is I have to use desktop software to update since it's not on the Verizon network.

Correct, all their LTE phones are unlocked but they may not have the bands required for whichever provider one is looking to use it on. The S8 has the most bands that I read of the US releases though

I followed their steps too but no luck yet. I have no idea why it does not work for me. After I was frustrated I decided crack down their app a little bit. It doesn't have any phone permission, I am guessing it cant put Unlock Code for the phone and the other thing is I tried some random numbers and it still said Permanently Unlocked.
Do you need to have the app installed all the time or is it fine to remove afterwards?
From personal experience i can tell you that anyone claiming to unlock your phone is scamming you. I had to get my credit card involved to get my $20 back. There are those that will GSM unlock with a computer but the moment you update your FW you'll lose that unlock.
Sprint devices NEVER unlock with a code. If you have a fully paid off device then Sprint will have to legally unlock it for you. You chat with their international team for some reason to get this done.
It's easier if you have a phone active with Sprint. Do not waste your money elsewhere. FYI.

Make sure you have enabled "Developers Options" and set the "OEM Unlock" to "On".
The only way you can truly unlock it is with the UICC unlock. Are you a Sprint customer? That helps. However if you are not and you phone is still fully paid off, go on the following website and initiate a chat:
https://sprintworldwide.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat_launch/
Tell them that you HAVE TO get it unlocked and ask them to reset and refresh the unlocking process from their end. I had to do this with an LG X Power. They made me wait for almost 10 minutes after which my phone rebooted by itself after they reset it. Once I restarted the phone and connected to wifi, I was able to UICC unlock it. Good Luck!

That is BS on Sprint's part. I just helped my niece UICC unlock her V30 literally yesterday using that same link I provided. You have to keep trying and be patient with them.
Also, being a "current" Sprint customer helps. I just tell them I have to travel to places where Sprint offers spotty coverage and I don't want to lose my customers. YMMV!

Spotty coverage isn't even a lie for me. I had a couple sprint phones. My house is in a absolute dead zone and my whole area is spotty at best, unless im smack dab in the middle of town not one bar. Im on the west coast and looking at theyre coverage map their network is almost non existent.
I don't have a sprint account period though. My other phones were on Sprint mvnos and like i said i bought this phone used and obviously have no contact with the seller. Sprint wants account pin. I don't know why they can't just keep resending the signal until its unlocked.
I asked on their support forum and the rep said when the phone becomes eligible for unlock they automatically send signal to unlock it once. If the phone is roaming or off at the time they sent the signal your sol.

I called Customer service and told them I bought the phone cash from T-Mobile store and it doesn't make sense to put me on a 40 day hold to unlock, I own the phone outright. I asked was there any way to override the 40 day policy because I travel and sure enough she bypassed the policy and told me I will have to do a factory reset. I factory reset and open the unlock app and tap the permanent unlock option and boom it unlocked and the app disappeared.

Yeah it doesn't even make to put us on a 40 day hold if we own the phone
Now if we can get you guys to unlock bootloader and then try to flash the international stock rom from OnePlus and see if it "unlocks" the second simcard imei
Can't you get the token to unlock bootloader (from oneplus) after the unlock the SIM?
Mine doesn't arrive till Monday..

You can't "unlock" an IMEI it doesn't have one and the phone can't just create one

There ya go,good point. :good: (Admittedly,I didn't consider that either,THX for bringing it up).
If there is no "buried" IMEI (doubtful,at best),even if the hardware is there (less the SIM Card holder for T-Mobile models),it's not just gonna magically generate one.
Before anyone gets the idea of "putting" an existing one on there (if even possible) that discussion is off limits here @ XDA.................
I'm guessing that the special modem for TMobile variants is disabling the second SIM slot or the variant simply is different hardware then.

If u have the right tools u may be able to write an imei to the efs partition however that would be highly illegal..I don't hold out much hope that the tmo variant is dual SIM.. as OnePlus has stated that tmo specifically chose a different variant sadly..I will be happy with unlocked bl and custom roms tho after this first month..when I need dual SIM I'll just use my XS Max.

From what I saw from T-Mobile on Twitter is their backened doesn't support dual SIM phones. Not that you can use an unlocked dual SIM phone on their Network they just can't sell them directly

That sounds more like a "won't" than a can't.
TBH,I've heard that term (backend) used a few times recently & have no idea what it really means in this context, other than just what it sounds like, they won't sell it.
I bet it's just a canned response w/no real reason other than T-Mobile & the other carriers would rather sell us two single-SIM phones vs one dual-SIM phone.
I tried and they said I couldn't until the buyer remorse period is over.
Edit -
Contacted Tmo via Twitter and they did it no problems!
Apple is having a hard time getting carriers to support dual SIM capability and this will be more difficult after the merger as control of the wireless market will be further concentrated. They are easily the most influential supporters of dual SIM capabilities in the States, lets hope they maintain that support and are joined by others that could benefit from taking back some control of the wireless market because it helps check abuses by our wireless oligopoly. Folks will do what they want but I'd carefully consider buying the Tmo version if dual SIM was something I wanted. Burned myself thinking something would come that never did more than once. I do think it's a good possibility but I use dual SIM now so wasn't taking a chance.

T-Mobile DIGITS helps, but, it's not exactly the same. (Still only one SIM for data).
Otherwise, I'd stayed away. Been using Dual SIM phones more often than not over the past five years, since I left Sprint for T-Mobile (the sheer variety of BYOD/Dual SIM was the main reason, let alone better service).

Some reps will do with no problem and other Reps make it seem as if the 40 day policy is mandatory. Just gotta keep trying till you get the Rep who doesn't give a **** lol

Illegal, just to unlock it? Then just restore original. NO?

Still sounds like they're making it out to be more expensive/labor intensive than it actually is.
If BYOD Dual-SIM phones can operate on their networks,it would stand to reason it would take little to no effort for the carriers to sell dual SIM models.
Not being disagreeable,my beef is w/the US carriers,it's nonsense.

Yes dual SIM devices work because TMobile sees it as 1 IMEI for each line. But if they sell a dual SIM phone then they have two IMEI numbers per phone in thier system. I'm guessing the iPhone works a bit different since one is virtual
