Hello,
I would like to ask if i can do a full wipe. I mean with internal storage.
My pohone is already going slowly, storage is full of trashes and i want to clean it.
I have USB OTG from i install roms, kernels etc.
So my idea is.
Boot recovery -> wipe system, data, cache, davlik, internal storage.
Than instal boostack, rom and gapps.
Will it works? Im afraid of brick or damage my G2.
May i do it like i wrotte?

Internal storage is what you have on your SD card like music, pictures, videos and folders. It's what you see when you connect USB to PC. If you wipe it nothing bad will happen. But you also mentioned you want to wipe system, if you do that you won't have anything to boot with so make sure you flash another system after wiping.

i wanna download some cool roms and it ask me to wipe data, cache and dalvick. when i do this.... will it erase all of my music, vids, and pics off my sd card? i have the phone plugged in boot mode... all i have to do is cleck yes to wipe data. i hope this doesnt make me lose everything
I'm no expert but have flashed a few roms. You shouldn't lose what's on your SD. I wipe cache and dalvik all the time even when not flashing a ROM. I've never lost anything. You would if you were partitioning your SD.
Hope it helps, good luck and have fun.

No when you wipe dalvick cache and cache you won't lose anything on your SD card just make sure you fully understand how to flash a rom first time I did it I messed my phone up do a lot of research first lol and good luck

Before you start wiping and what not make sure to do a backup. Also use Titanium Backup to back all your apps you downloaded the paid ones's or all the ones you downloaded. For contacts make sure to export them to your sdcard just in case. what recovery do you have? Should use Amon RA the best one for the EVO
Now when you're installing a new rom This for the Amon ra recovery but its almost the same for clockworkmod.
Wipe all user data/system
Wipe cache
wipe Dalvik cache
Wipe android secure (optional)
Wipe system
Wipe data
Wipe boot
Wipe rotate settings
BUT DO NOT WIPE SDCARD goodluck with your new root
Have a question here that's semi-related. I have been playing around with some different ROM's here the past few days. I noticed some of them are utilizing my SD card. When I do my usual wipe, it's leaving a few Widgets, etc in place. I know it's the SD card, because when I repartition the SD card, I finally got rid of everything that wouldn't wipe. What wipe/clear was I missing here, or is the only way to clear these apps/widges from the previous ROM is to do a SD card repartition each time?
Edit :
Just to be clear on the wipes/clears I've been doing :
wipe data/factory reset (Doesn't this cover most everything?)
wipe cache
wipe Dalvik cache
I also tried Clear Storage from hboot, but that didn't seem to help either...

...So, what ROM are we developing here? ...I'm not good at flaming...
@MPH33, you want to make sure and post questions in the Q&A section in the future.
My two cents here, is:
I always wipe my sdcard as well as what the others have said. I know you don't want to "lose" all your stuff on there, but really all you have to do is create a folder on your computer with the important stuff, like pics, music, backups. I use recovery to partition the sdcard, much faster than formatting on the PC.
The phone creates other temp folders on the sdcard that I am not sure what impact they will have on another ROM but I like to get rid of them.

the fact that you say you get rid of the left over bits when you repartition tells me that it's an apps2sd issue. Some roms use the sd-ext and some don't. In both CWM and Amon-ra you will find options to wipe the sd-ext. Add that into what you're already wiping and you shouldn't be troubled with leftover bits anymore. (and just to be sure, also add in .android-secure to the list of what gets wiped)
Wiping data/factory reset will wipe android secure and sd extension. So id just do what jaredthegreat said and run vr_superwipe script also.
It works same way as when your done using the toilet.

I have never had a device without a removable SD and am used to having the contents of my SD protected when I wipe and then flush, i mean flash (hah). When I wipe with TWRP, will I lose my pix, audio, etc as they are not on a separate partition?

If you lost your pix, audio, etc that would really really suck. I don't think I would flash new ROMs daily. So of course the contents of internal SD are protected. UNLESS you choose to wipe internal storage in TWRP so don't mess with those advced options. They call it a factory reset in TWRP but its not like the phone option to factory reset which does wipe internal storage.
Your app data is lost. Just back up with titanium backup. After flashing new ROM install only TB, then restore apps and data (no system apps!) and you're done!
And make sure you have a backup! If anything does go wrong just restore it.
alright so lets say i download a rom and put it on my internal, then i boot into twrp do i just factory reset or what? i dont understand what to wipe to keep internal intact sorrry im a noob
in TWRP do a factory reset and install the new rom (and gapps if its CM rom) and you are golden.
stuck on team win screen
ok I need some serious help my battery is about to die! I have a custom ROM (PA 3.99) on my phone. I am meeting a guy tonight to sell it, and my new phone comes tomorrow. So I need the phone up until I meet the guy, so I will wipe after he agrees to buy. What all do I wipe to keep it working, but safely remove all my settings/pics/etc...? I'm on TWRP recovery.

Backup (apps&data), all of your pictures and videos, and anything you wish to keep to your computer. Download the factory image of KitKat or whatever you want to put on the phone, do a full wipe and flash.

Advanced Wipe partitions list: Dalvik, System, Data, Internal Storage, Cache, usb-otg. Do I select them all to wipe?
Also, the Format Data menu says it wipes backups, pics/vids, media, and encryption. Do I do that too or is the above sufficient?
Wipe everything but system and otg
If you wipe system then there is no rom on the phone. Don't have a otg device plugged in so that's useless

OK thanks, that was what I was wondering - how I wipe everything but keep the rom zip to flash to. So doing it your way, after the wipe, I reboot to a new phone (running PA 3.99) with no flashing needed?
Doing it that way will be leave a clean install of that rom. It won't change the kernel though if you flashed a different one over the one that came with the ROM.
If you wanted that back you would just dirty flash that same rom overtop of it.
In a nutshell there are a bunch of partitions on the devices. I won't go over ALL but the main ones we use.
/ system is the ROM
/boot is mainly the kernel.
Wiping all the rest leaves it clean. All your data and media goes on those partitions / mount points /data / internal storage or emulated / whatever the heck it is.
Basically yeah wipe everything but system ( and boot if your recovery has that option)
Excuse my ignorance but I've been out of the game for 3 years and not familiar with TWRP as I used to use Clockwork Recovery. What do I need to wipe when preparing to install a custom ROM? Do I just hit factory reset in TWRP or do I advance wipe?

Wipe everything other than the partition you have the custom ROM on, so if your custom ROM is on external SD, wipe and format the whole internal
When upgrading from the same custom ROM to a newer version, you only need to wipe System and Caches

It lets me wipe:
- Davik cache
- Cache
- System
- Internal Storage
- Data
So I should wipe everything but system or?

You need to wipe everything, sometimes internal storage, sometimes not. I wipe everything including internal storage though, as a lot of unneeded files are kept there. Just transfer what you want to keep to your pc or external card.

I haven't been able to find an answer upon searching and haven't come across this in my time reading forum posts.
So if I go to settings - backup and reset and do a factory reset from there.
I will lose all my data on internal storage, yes. But will the Android system boot into the same rom with Gapps and all just without any data at all? Allowing me to set it up as a new phone completely.
I'm on official Resurrection remix.
Edit - here's what I did. Thanks @Sam Nakamura
1. Clean flashed the ROM I wanted to use. (wipe everything except internal storage)
2. Booted into the ROM and set up Google account.
3. Booted into twrp and wiped internal storage.
4. Rebooted into system.
Everything is good as new. Setting it up from scratch now.
Isn't better doing it from recovery?

Trying to find out how. Want to delete all data including internal storage.
Want to lose all apps, files. Basically exactly as a new phone, just with a custom ROM.

Not if you don't wipe system partition, where ROM and Gapps are located. Just if something goes wrong, you should have a way to flash these zips. You can use TWRP to transfer them.
Basically I'm not sure which partitions to wipe. As I don't know what is contained in which partition. Which is what I'm trying to understand
How to use twrp to transfer them? I lost you at that.

Wipe data, cache, dalvik, and internal storage partitions. Don't wipe system.
Data contains your apps. Cache works as cache for apps and dalvik has a similar function afaik. Internal storage stands for the internal memory, where files that you download, transfer or receive, are located.
I'm trying to say that you should have a backup of ROM and gapps just in case something bad happens, which I don't think. If that happens, just boot the phone in TWRP and plug it to a computer. Then transfer zip files of ROM and Gapps to internal storage, and then flash them. Voilá, clean ROM and full operative Gapps.
Sorry for taking so much to reply, I didn't see notifications in the forum.

Thanks for the explanation about the partitions.
I managed to achieve what I set out for.
Did a clean flash of my ROM. Then went on to wipe internal storage in twrp. Now have a new rom and everything. But clean slate for internal storage.
