Hello all. I'm fairly new to phone modifications. Yesterday I rooted my phone successfully, installed TWRP successfully, installed and operated cyanogen mod 14 successfully. Upon discovering I had to install gapps I removed the micro sd card from my phone and placed it into my laptop via a sd to micro sd card converter. I placed the file for gapps onto my micro sd card and when I plugged my micro sd card into my phone and tried to load it up into recovery mode it would not work. When I pressed 'Install' on the twrp menu the menu froze. I repeated the process multiple times to see if it was some sort of bug but the same result appeared. Upon entering my micro sd card into my computer after to see the state of the installed files it mentioned corruption and that I could no longer access them. Currently I am left with a phone without an OS to operate on. Can I simply re-format my micro sd card, install cyanogen mod again and then re-install it? If not does anyone know of any way that I can revert settings? Unfortunately the backup I made for my phone prior to cyanogen mod flashing was lost in the micro sd card corruption. Wish I had made a backup to my computer now :/ appreciate any help <3
Yes you can reformat your SD and use it again. After formatting it (not as NTFS or Mac OS extended), move the CyanogenMod and Gapps zips to the SD, making sure to eject it. Then, with the phone powered off, put the SD card in the phone. Boot into TWRP, press install, find the CyanogenMod file, tap it, and hit "flash more files" or "add more zips" or whatever the button says (should be to the left of "install") then find the Gapps file, and tap it, then press install. Then wait for it to finish, and boot! Then you have CM and Gapps in one flash. I've never had an issue doing it this way. Cheers on joining the community, and good luck with your journey.

I've tried to find the answer to my problem, but I can't seem to find the specific help. I sold my Touch GSM working great. I had it returned saying it didn't work.
I think the guy tried to do something to the rom and created problems. The phone will boot up, the icons come up as well as a wallpaper photo of the guy and his family. Before I can access any files, it shuts off and restarts. It just keeps doing this. I can't sync the phone because it never gets to that point.
Can I interrupt the start up? Can I flash it somehow? Can I put something on the micro SD card before it starts up? What can I do to either change the rom or fix the continuous restart.
Thanks for your help.
Fix boot loader from sd card htc touch elf clone
PROBLEM SOLVED. THIS WORKED GREAT FOR ME FINALLY! it's the chinese clone version of the HTC TOUCH gsm. Don't need active sync or to be connected to the computer to work.
It was easy.
My phone would get stuck on the first windows screen and that would be it. Nothing I did would get the phone to work.
1. download the file from the link and unzip it.
rapidshare.com/files/82510452/New_Blue_Touch_ROM_V4.0.zip
2. Transfer the file called update.img to the micro sd card. Make sure you don't put it into any folder, just directly onto the card. (I have a usb micro card reader that I slide the micro sd card into and plug it into my computer) They also have a regular size sd card that you slide the micro into and insert it into your computer.
3. I pushed the side volume switch up, held the power button and did a soft reset.
4. A menu comes up that says something like "boot loader from the sd card."
5. the phone automatically read the card and my phone went to a blue screen with nothing there. I thought it wasn't working, but I let it stay that way for a short while. Sure enough, the phone started up and it hadn't worked for a year before that!
I can't say it will work for you, or what will happen to your phone, but I had nothing to lose.
Good luck
hello there. for you and anyone else with china htc problem this is the solution for it.
go to this page and download the IMG file called "update.img"
then follow this steps.
1. Format your HTC memory card (Micro SD card), so it will be clean.
2. Move the update.img (you already downloaded from the site) to root directory of your Memory card.
3. Press Volume Up button on your htc and while keeping it pressed , press the reset button.
You should get the blue screen telling the update being downloaded. Wait for a while and it will tell that Update is successful and your phone will be rebooted.
THis is it.
Could you tell me where you find the update.img file? I have the same problem, but I couldn't seem to be able to find update.img in the New_Blue_Touch_ROM_V4.0.zip file. Thanks for your help!
i did nothing new, no update, just while installing some games, pc suite got a freeze, i restarted my pc and my DHD, all applications installed on the sd card are not working, but my sd card is mounted and i can access sd card root using astro, also i tried to install some apps using astro, but installation bar progress takes forever and didnt finish, even installing from market did not start.
any suggestion on what is going here?
P.S.: i tried to unmount than mount my sdcard, and nothing changed.
this is turning very serious, plz i need help.
i did a factory reset, and i did install the stock rom from sdcard, both ways keep the problem, that i cant sync the device or mak it appear as disk drive, i can only make a internet passthrough connection, but no drive no htc sync, i did a lot of tries, debug on off, connect reconnect usb, restart device, restart pc, use another pc, i also have stock rom .6, and original kernel with latest htc sync installed.
m very frustrated now, i have no recovery, the device wont accept installing anything from pc, or from market place, installing process takes forever and do nothing, the problem is in the device not the pc, is there a way to get back my device to operate properly, please help
Is you SD card corrupted? Can you access it?
i will list it again as following:
-stock rom .6 with original kernel
-radio s off
-no recovery
-sd doesnt seems corrupted cause i can access it once with astro, and i can access it with pc suite only as disk drive
-i tried with mounted and unmounted sd card (no fix)
-i did a factory reset (no fix)
-i did install the rom from sdcard (no fix)
-i tried another pc for syncing (no fix)
-i can only make internet passthrough but no disk drive or htc sync
-in market i can press on install but nothing will happen
-in desktop htc sync, if i get luck and see it, if i browse to install an apk, it will simply freeze.
please all i need urgent help, i think something bad happened to my device
How about copying all the data from yr sd card into another card? Your current card could be faulty but stil accessible by astro.
You could also try copying everything out to your PC and then reformat the card and copying everything back.
If stil don't work then start brand new by reformatting the card and reinstalling all your apps
i will try it man for sure but just for informations:
-say i have no sdcard in the device (sdcard is unmounted) should i be able to install from market or install from pc some apk?
if yes than the problem is not in the sdcard, if no than i have hope to do it.
P.S.: how can i format the sdcard if i cant access it as disk drive?
You can format from within Android, Settings -> SD Card & Phone Storage -> Unmount first then Format.
Have you got another SD card to try with?
-i formatted the sd card, insert it in DHD (doesnt work)
-i replaced the sd card by another one (doesnt work)
-reinsert the new sd card and reboot (now problem is fixed)
-now back to the original sd card (and yes the problem is fixed)
what happened i dont know, why it's fixed i dont know, it's like a sudden problem and sudden fix, if anyone have any idea of what happened plz enlight us for future or similar issues.
I had a problem with my EVO, here is what happened and how I fixed it.
I rooted my HTC EVO 4g using Unrevoked, it worked fine, then I decided to flash a new rom, followed all the steps and I backed up my stock and wipe data/factory reset and Davik, now my phone doesn't read the sd card, is not even connecting throw usb, not even for charging.
Took the sd card out and did a FAT32 format (4 times already), downloaded the new zip to it and still not reading.
Can't do a restore because I re-formated the sd card and is not reading anyways.
I have another SD card and same thing happens.
As soon as I check install zip from card it reads
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0p1)
(No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount /sdcard
Besides that my computer wasn't reading my phone and my phone wasn't reading my SD card.
I asked and got no answers and thats why I decided on posting this.
Here is how I fixed my EVO, that doesn't mean that is going to fix yours, but is a start.
Also I am not responsible for whatever you do with or to your phone.
For everything I put on SD card I used SD card reader
A) I went to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
followed instructions for only SD card fix, because I couldn't use ADB.
B) Downloaded the most current RUU here http://goo-inside.me/evo/stock/RUU/ to my computer, then to SD card, went to bootloader, flashed PC36IMG, now my phone is back to stock with out USB connection, doesn't even charge with phone turned on but at least I was able to restart into a ROM. (If you have the same problem that I had, turn phone off and charge it, you don't want to run out of battery in the mids of all this scramble.
C) Download Astro, terminal emulator and root explorer from Market.
D) Download Z4root.apk from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953 and put it on SD Card
E) Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045 and download hboot_2.xx_soff-VX.zip to computer, open it with 7zip then I put the files from step 4 on sd card, if you ignore the part that says adb push, the next is the location of the file on the zip you just opened, got to pay attention to rename the zip with correct name. The last part that says flash_image /data/local/ has to be done manually, just make sure flash_image is on the SD card.
F) Put SD card and battery back, turn phone on as normal, it will boot into rom, open Astro and search for Z4root.apk, long press on it and select application installer, install and don't open.
G)Go to Root explorer, press Mount R/W, select SD card, search for flash_image,
long press, select move, arrow back, select data, then select local and paste image there.
H)On step 6 I couldn't get Terminal to do the first part of backup but got the second part "busybox sed -n '/BEGIN CERTIFICATE/,$p' /dev/mtd/mtd0 > /sdcard/rsa_OEM.key"
I) After step 7 is done, pull battery and reboot into bootloader, and install PC36IMG as described and at this time I had S-OFF so I rebooted into ROM not to recovery and plug USB cable to computer, USB worked fine so at this point I have many options to finish job.
J) I used after last reboot universal auto root from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448&highlight=xHausx, run it and done, now I keep flashing different roms.
Hope this help you as it helped me, I take no credit for work done buy any of the OP's of the threads mention above, I just put together all the resources in one place for you to find.
If you feel like donating, donate to them the OP's and if there is any extra I don't mind a pack of mints.
Transfer files from PC or ext SD from recovery?
by OS is damaged and I can only get to fastboot, android recover, etc
How can I either restore a factory rom with RSD or fastboot or is there a way to access the external SD card from recovery?
I have tried using RSD light to load
1FF-olympus-user-2.3.6-4.5.141-111212-release-keys-signed-ATT-US-GAS_NA_OLPSGBATTSPE_P012.sbf
but it fails each time

I tried fix permissions, still fails

I'm not familiar with fastbbot and RSD could lead to more problems if done incorrectly so I would go the external way.
Do you have a card reader/usb for your micro sd card? If so, you can take your external out of the phone and install anything you want then turn off phone and put in your card again and access recovery.
Turn the phone on while holding "power" and "volume down" until white letters show up saying fastboot on the top right corner of the screen. Then release both buttons. It will still say fastboot at this point. Click the volume down button until it cycles to android recovery. Then click power up to enter recovery. Scroll through the menu down to mounts and storage and click the power button to select it. then scroll down again and select mount USB storage. Select it and then connect your phone to your pc and transfer the files you want. This is all assuming you've installed CWM or another 3rd party recovery.
I have CWM 4.0.1.4 installed
The restore continually fails and if I use advanced to try to restore the data folder on its own it says Error while formatting data
External 2gig SD Card placed in phone:
I cant find the external SD card in the list when I try to use it for installing a new ROM
Accessing phone via USB cable & PC:
when I go to mounts & storage / mount USB
it says,
USB Mass Storage Device
Leaving this menu unmount
your SD card from your PC
Unmount
**** Go Back ****
I connect the phone to the PC at this point and it does nothing, no beebs nothing...
I tried 2 different cables
it did when before...
I was following this guide to root, install a custom recovery, and then flash a ROM onto my phone. I rooted successfully and created a back up. I then copied the backup onto my external sd card. I then put the custom rom onto my sd card and entered recovery mode on CWM. I wiped my device and then realized that the custom rom was the incorrect file. I then went to restore and it gave me an error md5 mismatch. I then went to restore of external sd card and it said it could not find the directory. I then went to restart phone and CWM said I was not rooted anymore and asked if I wanted root access and I hit yes.
My phone will not start and just remains in the Samsung loading screen with an unlocked graphic with the words "custom" under it. I am able to get back into CWM recovery but nothing else seems to work. I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks

You can either use a MicroSD to SD adpater and the computer's card reader to copy a ROM over and flash it, or ODIN back to stock, and start over.

Clueless here. Made a post about it.
I just discovered today more than just myself are unable to plug the handset into a computer to exchange files. I can get things off the phone onto the computer, but not vice versa.
Also the handset itself is fussy when it comes to viewing it's own external SD card. It would seem it doesn't take much for it to disappear, once in recovery.

This phone does not support mass USB storage. It uses MTP and PTP protocols. This information is available in several threads in the forum. Now, of course, even with MTP and PTP you should be able to still transfer files from a PC to the Ext. SD card considering you have the correct drivers. Perhaps your SD card isn't playing nice with your phone? Have you tried removing the card from your phone and transferring files to it dierectly from you PC via SD slot or card reader? Have you tried other brands? I find Samsung cards work best, but that is just me, This will help to see if it is the phone (possibly cable) or the card that is having issues.
Also, you can check this out. It supposedly enables Mass USB storage for this phone...though it still says it doesn't work for the Ext. SD card. I have never tried it, so if you do it is at your own risk but maybe it will help? Good luck.

The app says it is for the SIII, but people have reported it as working with the S4 as well.
thank you

I am too happy to experiment like that. The AT&T S4 running GoldenEye with no add ons is the best darn handset I've ever enjoyed. I love being rid of the bloatware. I don't miss it a bit. I will fuss around with the SD interface as I do have resources like you mentioned, I can try a different chip. I didn't consider that a bad chip would cause the computer to consider the entire handset as "read only", yet you suggest it's possible?

Anything is possible and it would be a simple way to maybe help identify where the problem lies. Better yet, take your sd card out of your phone and try a transfer. That will let you know if it has anything to do with it. If it still doesn't work, it more than likely has nothing to do with the SD card.
Can you transfer files from your External SD card to your phones internal SD memory and the other way around (via a file manager on your phone)?
If you can, I can't see how it would be a "read' only problem.

I should unhook my phone from the 3.5mm jack and look into this. As I type, my S4 is piping in my playlist to provide the wife and I musical background for our activities. I remember using "Root Explorer" recently to delete a nandroid backup, and to move said playlist off the SD card into Phone memory. The "write protected" error showed up directly after building this playlist, using the computer to organize it. It's brand new, and as a good troubleshooter, we always look at the last thing you did different. I used the "windows explorer" to edit my playlist on the phone while it was plugged up together.
It's turning out to be a bigger deal than just myself, and I should pursue your recommendation for testing and reports, but it's not broken enough to fix and it's Sunday night, and the music is more important at this juncture.
Edit:
I powered down and then removed the Micro SD, and when I powered back up, it showed that cool padlock icon with the label "Custom" screen during boot up. I hadn't seen that screen on boot up since I used Casual to get a TWRP recovery.
I tethered the handset to the Desktop and opened the windows explorer. Obviously it just showed phone this time, instead of phone and card. I tested copying files and it worked fine, the "write protected" error was gone.
I unhooked, powered down, put the micro SD card back in, powered up and noted the boot up screen was back to normal. Tethered up again and voila! Files can be written to the phone and or the card and no more "write protected" error.
Funny little fluke. Problem solved. Curiosity remains.
