Video Files not showing in any player after I used this app - Moto G4 Play Questions & Answers

I'm facing this problem when I downloaded Data Sanitizer app from the store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmail.derry.hussain.datasanitizer&hl=en The app claims to do as what in Windows is "Defrag" or something similar. I tried it, it took around 10 minutes and it showed that it cleared 17GB of data from both my Internal and external memory. After some time when I went to VLC player on my phone, it only showed only videos from WhatsApp, nothing else. Then I headed to file manager and all the files were present but they were not visible in the player. I also tried 2-3 other player such as MX player, BS player, KM player, but all yielded same results. Also, when I copy/download new video to either SD card or Internal, it's also not shown. How do I fix it?

Go to settings - apps - all - Media Storage, then clear data and reboot, then wait a couple of minutes.

There is no such option. There are only two options in 3-dot menu: Show System & Reset app preferences. There is also another icon of settings-style which is "Configure apps" and in that menu too, no such option.

Try to use a data recovery app like Dumpster.
According to the Data Sanitizer app description, "it overwrites the free disk space to insure that no recoverable data is left behind".
Additionally, Android uses the ext4 filesystem (also commonly used on Linux) or f2fs. These filesystems do not require defragmenting like on Windows. To clean your device and save space you can delete cached data (settings > storage > cached data).

Show system, then you will see "Media storage". Then go to Storagex nd clear data, then reboot.

No effect. Still showing the same videos.

Actually, it didn't deleted any data. How can this app be useful?

Orange M3100 seems to corrupt storage card (Media Player)

Weird, This is the 2nd device I've had and both do this...
I sync music to the card, Media Centre picks the music up, but then after a reset it all goes wrong:
The next time I start MC, it doesn't even see the storage card (in the Library). Updating the library, it finds the tracks but seems to hang while adding them. Meanwhile, the free storage on the card goes down... and down... and down until there's none left. MC then says "can't add the tracks" and gives up.
Anyone else having this trouble, or am I incredibly unlucky?!
Ferg.
I have the same issue on my TyTN...
really frustrating but I found a workaround: browse the storage and delete the hidden folder MSMETADATA, then try to update media player library.
You won't find such folder using the file explorer provided with WM5: you must use an enhanced file explorer such as Resco one in order to view hidden and system files.
I have the same problem but I will try deleting that files to see if it helps.
That seems to work Nic, nice one.
I'm sure I remember doing this before with no success, but my memory is obviously playing tricks.
ferg.
I also have the same problem. It is very annoying...
However, if you go to the Library screen, then Menu > Open File and navigate to storage card > playlists, you can open any of your playlists...
Not ideal but it works.
I removed that file and it works fine now, jusy hope is stays the same for a few days.
Yeah, I've had the same problem too and I've tried all the various things suggested with limited success. The only surefire solution I've encountered is to copy all my important folders from the storage card to my desktop - minus any of the media files/folders and the msmeta data files, using resco, reformat the storage card, replace all the files from the desktop, resync and then synchronise he music through wm player again.
What a pain!

One possible solution to media process force-close problem

I've experienced this problem for very long time, that is, when I ran Gallery then switch to another application, soon Media process would force-close. Or after I booted the phone, in about few minutes, Media would force-close.
This problem became very annoying after I realized that when I watch a video in Gallery, Media forces close but video's still playing, if I close Media, then video stops playing and Gallery quits.
So I tried many ways.. clear data, re-installing other roms, formatting SD card, but all those ways didn't help.
Until yesterday, I formatted SD card again and discovered that Media no longer forces close. This time I didn't format it using Windows' format application, but instead, I used Android's format function.
So maybe this is the solution : to format SD card using Android's format function instead of using Windows'.
Update 11 Aug:
Sorry.. after two days no fc, today again I got FC, so that means formatting SD card by Android does some help but not much.
I used a wallpaper stored in SD card, now I use a system wallpaper and so far haven't got any more FCs, so hopefully this time it fixes.

[Q] New Media files not showing up in Gallery or Music Player.

Just found out this particular problem a few days back. When I add new pictures or music to my tablet either in the tablet or the external SD card, it is not showing up in the gallery or the music player. The files however are there when i use a file explorer to view them. The images can be opened with the gallery or any other image app. Music files can be browsed using a file explorer and played with the stock music player or any other music player app. But it just doesn't show up in the gallery or Music player list.
I've tried refreshing the music library, have formatted my SD card but to no avail. Someone suggested to delete the .no media extension from the music player file, but that didn't helped too.
Any suggestions to this problem?
I had the same problem. You can try to delete the cache in settings/apps this should help.
However I found out the stock gallery sometimes takes VERY long to update pics on sd card. By very I am talking about probably hours.
Other gallery apps like "QuickPic" don't have that problem. You can try if quickpic works while stock gallery does not, then it is caused by the mentioned problem.

I tried deleting the cache, but it didn't work. So I flashed my device with the original stock rom. Only then was I able to get back everything. Thanks a lot for suggesting quickpix though. It's a wonderful app.
Try media fix from the market
I use fastreboot program, so that the gallery will refresh, OR you can try, go to settings>applications>manage applications>all then search for the gallery then tap on FORCE Stop, then try to open the gallery again, this should initiate the media scan. if all else fails, use quickpic app for pictures
If you have any trouble with media not showing up, clear the Media Storage data. Settings -> Applications -> All -> Media Storage -> Clear Data. It'll rescan everything properly after that.
Check for any hidden files called NOMEDIA
if put in a folder (no extension) the folder will not be indexed.
Useful if you dont want all the icons of an app indexed.

Music Player showing multiple copies of files

I have 2 problems related to the music player, and I think they're both related to each other.
The first one, is that when I look at the list or scroll through the songs that I have saved in my phone ( external SD ), many ( or maybe even all ) of them show up with 4 copies with each. How did this happen? and how do I fix this?
The other problem is that, when I play songs from the "songs" tab, it always says "cannot play this format" , and then moves along until it finds something that it can.
Any ideas on how I can fix these problems?

If you have a pc, take out the sd card and put it in the pc, in windows explorer make sure you can view system files, after that have a look in your sd where your music is and you will see lots of index files, delete them and that should fix your problem, after you plug the sd back your phone will generate new index files. there maybe an app that could remedy that but this is how I fixed it when I had the same problem.

I have the multiple song problem. Easy to solve- clear the data under settings/ applications/ media storage. it'll force the media libray to be re-written.
I have no idea why this occurs.

Did this and it deleted the entire music library including playlist, gallery and other medias but I'm pretty sure that the pics, videos and other media are still intact via SD. Android probably can't see it so beware doing this. Backup media storage first and restore if you have problems
EDIT:
It's all good, just waited a few moments and the galley and the entire playlist went back

Anyone know why this occurs?
Also, it only happended to me once i upgrded to ICS, never of GB.
Thanks for the replies guys. All I did was clear the data from 'Media Storage", and restarted the phone so that it'll recheck the SD card again.

How do you do this from the phone? this seems to be a shorter step, since it probably wont require a reboot
It happens because you have moved the media file. The original file index location table has not been updated by touch wiz(Music player) but the new location of same files has been appended to the file index table.
For phone, the previous located file also exists. But when you try to play that file it says "Cannot play media, unsupported file format" .
The more number of times you move each file, the more no. of copies you have.
Example: You move your files 4 times. " Redemption Song"
You'll have 4 copies of the same track " Redemption Song"
When you try to play the 1st,2nd or the 3rd track of "redemption song", it'll say unsupported file format.
But when you'll play the 4th entry, it'll play.
The problem is the index file. Delete is. Let it create another file after every time you move your song files.

[Q] Deleted 6gb video, didnt free up memory

I deleted a video via mx player, didnt free up any memory, been searching the tablet to find where its living now. is there a trash folder somewhere that needs clearing? or will it delete as soon as its needed? i have 3 gb left and i should have 9 or 10. any advise?
You can download an app called DiskUsage. It breaks down where data is being stored on your device. You should be able to locate where the memory is being held up.

Thanks! as soon as i ran the app, it discovered that the video has been deleted and started to indicate that I have 9.8gb free.
Sometimes when you delete files using the MX Player delete... the disk space doesn't show up until a reboot... or use app manager to kill the settings app so it has to refresh all its values... I delete videos sometimes but they still show in my gallery until I reboot ... but they are just thumbnails and they won't play
