Downgrading from 3.5.6 to 3.1.0? - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, right now I'm on CM 14 and would like to try Oxygen OS 3.5.6. If i do Nandroid backup of 3.1.0 using TWRP can I restore it back without loosing IMEI from 3.5.6?

I think our twrp doesn't backup both modem partitions, even for full nandroid..... Just back up the modems manually.

Updating OnePlus 2 from OOS 2.1.1 to OOS 3.5.6

Please HELP ME!
I am on OOS 2.1.1, rooted and TWRP 2.8.7
installed.
I need to update to OOS 3.5.6.
Can soneone tell me the steps of flashing the
ROM and by which TWRP. And which data to clear.
Basically mention all the steps.
Please...
I will thank you 1000 times.
But please do help me.
Simply download the full 1.2GB OS 3.5.6 zip and flash it in recovery. Before you flash be sure to wipe ALL these folders in twrp : Dalvik, System, Data and Cache.
After wiping then you can flash the zip.
First of all flash latest twrp in twrp recovery than reboot recovery.now you could flash oxygen os 3.5.6 full zip.
I would suggest you to do following steps.
1. Flash OxygenOS 3.1.0 full rom by wiping all except internal storage.
2. Flash latest TWRP 3.0.2-2 from official twrp website. Becoz you won't be able to use old twrp on 3.0.1
3. Flash OxygenOS 3.5.6 full rom by wiping all in twrp except internal storage.
You can get the full roms in xda, spannaa has created a thread.
Note: Keep in mind that when you will uodate from oos 2.2 to oos 3.1 your bootloader will change so you will need latest twrp after installing oos 3.1.0 & when you will uodate from 3.1.0 to 3.5.6 your modem will change. So follow the steps exactly.
Flash Full rom OxygenOS 3.5.6

Yes, but last TWRP is necessary, i installed OxygenOS 3.5.5 in TWRP, change to Stock Recovery and update from OTA, but Full ROM can be installed directly from TWRP, Wipe Caché, Data and System is necessary

[Question] How to restore TWRP backup of stock 8.0 ROM, after flashing 8.1 ROM

Before going into the subject, I'll say that I have tried to seach this matter in XDA and Google, but nothing showed up.
Okay, so my matter is that I can't restore my backup of stock rom(8.0) after I flash a 8.1 rom. I've backuped with official TWRP "recovery-3.2.1-2-oreo.img".
My procedures are :
back up stock 8.0(system, data, cache, efs) with official TWRP "recovery-3.2.1-2-oreo.img"
flash oreo rom(with wiping internel, data, system, cache) and boot it fine.
restore my stock backup with same TWRP
boot system
The results are :
Goes past boot logo
Boot animation('android one' with colors sliding) shows up
and... just infinite loop of boot animation.
The ROM I used is RR.
I think the main problem is related with encryption.... Just my thought, tho.
So what I'm asking is :
1. If you face the same problem as me?
2. If you aren't and you restore goes fine, please tell me your procedures including ROM used and TWRP used.
3. Whether it is safe to decrypt stock rom?
Thanks in advance!
You don't need to flash stock ROM again. You have a system image backup(system, data, cache, efs), right? Wipe data , system, cache if you are coming from any other ROM. Then reboot to bootloader. Boot into latest TWRP from Fastboot (don't flash). Then go to restore and restore the system image you had backed up. Don't restore efs if you haven't lost your IMEI.
I've done exactly as ypu told, but it doesn't boot...
Did you manage to restore without problem with your method?
Yes I was able to. No problem here.
What TWRP did you use? Also, what ROM have you flashed?
Used the latest TWRP by MohanCM for Oreo. I did it when I was on Lineage os and wanted to go to stock
@guy_infinity Okay, thanks for your answer! Gonna try out later, once more.
Hmmm.... Still didn't boot up.
I thought I had to do everything from the begining, but flashing stock with save userdata option rescued me.
P.S. does anyone know about the error E: recv error on uevent?
try flashing stock rom using mi flash and after flashing restore normally using latest twrp/deadman's without system image voila everything will be back
@arjunbalan1994 Big thanks for your suggestion! Will try that too later
Hi, did you solve your restore problem? I have the same w/ my Redmi Note 5 and stock Miui backup after flashing RR.
Thanks for your help
I was use 8.1 root and twrp recovery. Yesterday fastboot flash may rom and update 2nd may OTA
Don't understand : May rom is Miui rom?
And did you restore your miui rom 8.0 backup ith twpr after the fastboot flash stock?

How do i upgrade from a custom 7.1.2 ROM to official stock Oreo ROM?

My main phone got damaged so i am using this Moto G4+ phone temporarily. Years ago i flashed Resurrection Remix Nougat on this and the phone is really slow and laggy right now so I am hoping flashing a stock ROM will fix it but i am not sure how to flash the stock ROM. I know about the fastboot method but i am worried about bricking the phone and i really do not want to risk bricking it at all since this is the only working phone i have right now. I am worried about all these different bootloader versions and the 32bit/64bit thing. My current bootloader version is 1.07. Should i fastboot flash the ROM given here https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/stock-rom-npjs25-93-14-4-march-1-t3608138 or do i have to do something else first?
Thanks
If you're worried about bricking your device, I would initially try flashing the TWRP flashable of the Nougat or Oreo stock ROM (from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/rom-oreo-8-1-0-soak-test-t3873367 ) This TWRP flashable will update your system, boot(kernel) and modem and should not update your GPT/bootloader (so you'd still be on B1:07). The stock ROM is 32 bit - if you're flashing, I would recommend you wipe data, after flashing, before booting - so ensure you back up (e.g. backup system, boot, data in TWRP) and keep that back up off your device.
If anything does happen, restore your backup and reboot.

I was able to successfully upgrade to stock Oreo through that TWRP zip but unfortunately the phone is still laggy, Do you think that fastboot flashing the stock ROM or upgrading to custom Pie ROM will help?

Please Help! (Urgent)

Guys, I'm not very mature with this device Rn7. As i already know about it's encryption. It's v flaky.
I'm running LOS 17.1, i have setup Pin & Fingerprint in my device which i enter into the recovery as well for decryption. I never flashed a Firmware thingy in my Device. As i have read before flashing many ROMs, You should have to flash Android Q firmwares on Top. But i never did that when flashing LOS 17.1. I just rooted Miui 11 installed custom recovery (Orange Fox R11) & flashed LOS 17.1
Question 1: LOS 17.1 is FBE or FDE?
Question 2: If i want to move on to Bliss ROM 12.11 from my current LOS 17.1 (21.7 nightly), Formating data will be necessary? Or i can just wipe? So i don't loose my Internal storage.
Question 3: Does anyone know how to flash a firmware? BlissROM OP says flashing a firmware on the Top before flashing Rom.zip?
Question 4: If i want to backup (nandroid) my current OS (LOS 17.1) into the recovery. Exactly which partitions i should backup? So i can restore after trying Bliss ROM or if i get a bootloop or other issues (if needed). My Internal storage will be safe at that time aswell after restore?
My Current OS: LOS 17.1
Current Recovery: Orange Fox R11
LOS 17 is fbe. idk the rest

1) LOS 17.1 is FBE
2) when changing ROM is recommended to clean flash and format data but you can try to install the new ROM without formatting data, in case of bootloop or issues booting the system the only solution is to format data or restore the nandroid backup of the previous ROM
3) download the latest stable firmware (for your region or the global one) from https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/firmware/lavender/ then just flash it in recovery
4) read carefully this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...ngefox-recovery-project-t3941822/post79771469 remember to copy the backup to a safe place (external sd card or computer)

If i flash the firmware on the top first. & Clean flash the ROM but without formating data. & if the ROM bootloops, i can just format the data & reboot the system? I will have the working device with newly flashed ROM? Or i will have to re-flash the whole ROM. zip again after formatting the data if newly flashed ROM bootloops?
Necessary to know for me, Because i won't have ROM.zip into my internal storage then if i will format the data when the ROM bootloops.
In addition to what others have posted, I would add :
- you can flash firmware anyhow.
- only /data and internal storage parts. are needed in most cases to be backed up. But that depends on what you wanna backup. I personally do not recommend relying on nandroid backups for data because of encryption. It is a hit and miss and you dont wanna take the risk in regards to data I believe. Just use an app data backup tool instead.
- Efs, modem, persist partitions should be backed up at least once and should be saved in different places because they can help fixing rare issues of imei lost, fingerprint breaking etc

Format data after flashing the ROM and then rebooting the system should be ok and you don't need to reflash anything

Bootlooping after trying to flash Oxygen 10 and then trying to restore TWRP backup

I've been running rooted CRDroid 9.0 (with Magisk and No_Verity) for years and wanted to go back to Oxygen, so I downloaded OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_068_all_2006012224_c7a6016 and updated my TWRP to 3.4.0.0. I followed the instructions - took a TWRP backup, flashed the Magisk uninstaller, did a full wipe (dalvik-cache, cache, system, vendor and data) and then tried to flash the ROM. I got an error due to the compatibility file. So, I tried to restore my TWRP backup and am now getting bootloops.
The instructions say I have to remove the compatibility file on my device, but I can't because of the bootloops.
Can anyone please help me to either get my TWRP backup successfully running or successfully flash Oxygen 10?
Thank you for any help!
