Only Verizon to tease with a security update when we're waiting for nougat.
Well at least it's the most current security patch.

I would search the forum under the root and recoveries. This has been discussed before, and there are ways to do it.
This has nothing to do with custom firmwares, I'm asking how to find stock nougat or how to update the phone, not how to root or flash twrp. At least how to find OTA files. As i see the latest RUU is from October.

I better sell this phone or exchange it to an international or other carrier variant than pay 25$ for a software that does almost nothing. I guess RUU is the only way to update it.

Ok, you're right of course, but I though since it's *.10, it's rootable. Sorry for the confusion. However, obviously the kernel got updated without a system update. It's now the very same kernel as in the *.15 firmware. How is that possible?

motorola can push/install updates without users consent/action, just pushing the kernel uses very little bandwith, and user may not even notice.

There was a bug-fix release for .10, before .15 came out. It was discussed a little bit and IIRC, it was a soak, not a full OTA.

Stagefright affects more than just SMS. That is just to most well known way to exploit it. And many third party apps that fixed stagefright on their end do not include the second fix that Google recently pushed.

You can't blame Motorola for that, it is your fault for unlocking the bootloader. That is why they warn against it and you should always have a backup to flash before doing so.
Yes, I can't. But it doesn't hurt to explain better the reasons for their advise against the mods. As I understood, the problem was with TWRP recovery. If I knew about this before, I would simply had flashed the original recovery before allowing the OTA update.
Now I'm finally with my phone back to business

I would believe so. I know it changes the bootloader on the S7Edge. I WOULD DEFINITELY STAY AWAY FROM ANY UPDATES IF YOU WANT ROOT IN THE FUTURE. You could miss a potential vulnerability and not be able to revert back down.

I believe the URL for the July update file can be found using the steps below (credit: troyboytn, from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6-edge/general/to-mm-download-link-t3371830). If anyone running the June firmware or earlier could try this, it would be a huge help to those like me who have not received the July OTA yet for whatever reason.
If anyone is currently running the June firmware, I believe we can find the download link by initiating a manual update by dialing *#8736364# in the dialer. Click "Software Update" and the information we need will be the "Server Address"when "Result" is clicked after download is initiated.. You will only get this info if your firmware is not up to date. .

Anyone with root can capture the OTA. In fact if someone does get it,most likely I can make a flashable zip from it. I have done this many times before. Someone with root download it to the phone. The OTA file should end up in fota. After that we should be able to just upgrade with a zip and still keep root. Im already on the newest build but ill make the upgrade zip for everyone.

No they did not block all downloads, they just block ability to download from they servers to PC/Mac/Phone by any browser. You can get OTA if you trying update as you should by checking OTA's in settings menu in phone.

"adb logcat" on a computer while checking for the update on the phone. It will always list the update URL. It's a pretty big patch -- 376 MB. Boot and recovery are modified but no separate fastboot. So either that's been added into the normal partition commands, or it's still going to be an OTA to enable bootloader unlocking.
Can't wait to hear from the brave souls who update first have to say. I'm goign to keep my root/twrp for now

Security patch level at September 1, 'Backup account' no longer greyed out, tweeked signal strength indicator, audio no longer drops out when starting camera and probably a host of other tweeks under the hood.

Strangely enough, I have dropbox installed after the update.
Unless I butt installed it just before (I do not use dropbox).
I'm fairly sure that the last update for the EU model installed an app as well (though not Dropbox).
How do we make a twrp flashbacks zip out of this that won't take away twrp?
Anyone that rooted without unlocking the bootloader tried this update?
Just updated and step count showed up.

Good to hear ZTE brings another software upgrade.
Hope the European version not too long to receive same level of treatment.
Can I ask if seeing any improvements on double tap to wake responsive to be more accurate with a range of press or the same behavior as being from beginning??
Thanks.

I'm currently on stock B20, locked and unrooted.
I posted the same in @DrakenFX's thread, but I'm happy to try out whatever folks think would be best:
1.) Unlock via the thread instructions and then update to B27
2.) Update to B27, then try to unlock via the thread instructions
3.) Other?

Do you have holster mode on? Or is the pedometer always on?
