Hi, for those who don't know, the Chainfire app FlashFire (available from Play store) can successfully flash zips as one would normally do in a custom recovery. It's not quite as good as having an unlocked bootloader and TWRP, but it can handle stuff like TBO app and custom mod zips and such just fine.
I'm running 4.4.2 because I don't know how to root anything higher, so I can't speak for other versions of Android. But if you're on NC2 you're in luck. I've flashed many things with FlashFire and haven't had any issues yet.

If you can't see your SD card data in a file explorer after flashing with FlashFire, don't freak out, your permissions just got screwed up. There's a zip to fix that if it happens.

so where's the working flashfire. link ...

I'm having trouble with SuperSU on 4.4.2 on Nexus 4.
So at 4.3 I unrooted first, then OTA'ed to 4.4 and now 4.4.2.
Yesterday I used cf-auto to root my phone, but there was no SuperSU. Then I downloaded one from Google Play. But it keeps saying "unfortunately SuperSU has stopped" when there is a need to use SuperSU, i.g. when there is a root explorer app running. I doubt whether the root was successful so I downloaded a root checker, but it kept saying "please wait". So I even don't know whether my phone is rooted.
Please help.
Do you have a custom recovery? Download the zip in the op and flash in recovery.

no i have the original recovery.
I tried Reinstallation in SuperSU and used root checker, which said my device has root access. But after I installed SuperSU again, it keeps crashing again. (keeps saying SUperUS has stopped.)
If you haven't gotten this squared away, I would recommend using Wug's toolkit to return to stock unrooted and then using the toolkit to reroot.

Just encountered this kind of problem on Purity. Flashed latest build (4.4.2), and then I didn't have root acces anymore. Then I tried rooting with Wug's toolkit (CWM as recovery and SuperSU as root), and unfortunately superSU didn't appear at all in the apps. I tried installing it from the recovery, no luck.
Then I tried it with SuperUser. it worked. I didn't ask any questions
Hello, just flashed omni and its really great, I found out that my device is not Rooted, (it was but after the format probably canceled(?))
Anyway, is it normal? And there is anyway to root without a PC and will it mess the system?
Thanks!

Flash the update supersu zip in linked in its thread.
I think its a bug in omnirom. Happened to me as well when i updated omnirom. You will just have to root it again.

Same here. That's why I keep the supersu zip file on my tablet
You can always enable Backup (or Survival mode) in Super SU, so you never lose root, even after a ful system wipe. That way, you'll always see the message below once you reboot from recovery after wipe:
Code:
Root access may be lost. Fix root? (Y/N)
You can also simply put flashable SuperSU package (the one you flash via recovery) into "Flash After Update" folder.
Then it will auto flash each time you update rom. You can also put there other zips like custom kernel.
It is a very useful OmniRom function
When you open SuperSu for the first time (once you have installed it), it asks you to install a script to survive over the flashes. There's nothing else needed. You'll be rooted always, even if you flash any update. At least that works for me..:silly:
Greetings!
My phone started to act really strange. If I'm turning my phone off, and trying to turn it on again, the phone going into loop, can't reboot it. Fixed only after wiping Delvik Cashe and Cashe, and reflashing the ROM.
But after reboot my phone going into loop again and I need to do the same steps by wiping and reflashing.
Also, when my phone is booting I've checked the root and phone is rooted but after some time root disappearing and says there is no SU binary.
Can somebody give me some advice what I need to do to fix it?
Thank you!
Have you tried another kernel? What kernel and SuperSU are you using?

Twice tried kernel from Stockish ROM and also tried kernel root by freeza. Still losing root but not at the first but after some time the phone works.
SuperSu is the same. 1.50 beta and stable

Same kernel. It's not stable for me either. I know a couple of users are using the Chainfire patch on stock kernel and have maintained root longer than me.
I'm basically on it as well after patching the stock kernel to get the backup and su image installed; I setup with SuperSU 2.64 beta systemless root.
You could extract the stock kernel, flash it in a zip for kernel flash it and patch it with SuperSU 2.64 or Odin stock tar and patch it or try a permissive kernel like AEL, Emotion or Plasma kernel for Lollipop 5.1.1

Is it possible to root without using TWRP? I know that it used to be, but I've been using phones with locked bootloaders for a while now and I'm not sure if Google patched it. The reason why is because I lost root while upgrading to dp5 and I don't want to have to go through the process of loading all of my stuff back on after I have to delete everything from decryption.

I haven't tried it as yet but on DP4 and an unlocked bootloader , I installed SuperSU using cf auto root . After that I installed FlashFire to flash my fav kernel . This way you are encrypted with stock recovery and able to take OTAs and flash them using FlashFire

Hey,
I have an Exynos S7 Edge with G935FXXU1DQB3 (nougat) stock rom. It's unlocked, supersu 2.79 rooted systemless, and has TWRP.
I've been trying to install Magisk to no avail.
When I try to flash Magisk on top of supersu systemless, I get a "not enough space in the boot partition" error. If I flash the original boot image, flash phh's superuser, then I get no prompts for superuser requests for apps.
Another interesting thing, with phh's, magisk says the device is rooted, but no root access is authorized (Grey error box).
Regardless of this problem, if I flash magisk on top of phh's, then I end up with a boot loop.
In theory, magisk should work with systemless supersu.
Any ideas?
I think you need to install magisk first then install supersu or phh on top of it if you want.
Magisk have it's own root though if you don't know.

I tried to flash magisk before all else, and still, bootloop.
I'm assuming this is an incompatibility with the stock rom and I just need to look into a custom rom.

I am wondering could it be because stock rom has encryption enabled and custom roms dont perhaps?

I doubt that. A whole bunch of ROMs are encrypted, yet Magisk works on them. I'm thinking deoxed, but I can't be sure.
One thing I know is that I tried everything I could think of.
I'm going to try one of the super stock ROMs, and see how it goes. I'm weary though, people complain about WiFi issues, camera issues, mic issues... Don't know.

Noob question (I had a rooted S4 but new to G935F) , so if we install no need to root with Chainfires SuperSu then right? Then why flash SuperSu on top?

Yes.
The reason why people flash supersu on top might be because of some compatibility issue that might rise from magiskSu since magisksu is still quite new but supersu have been exist for a long time.
I have never face any issue with magisksu though.

Update: over the last 24 hours, I've been using SuperStock 2.5 ROM. I have to admit that I am pleasantly surprised. Here's a quick review, for those who might be interested:
1. I switched from stock. Flashed it dirty, meaning system partitions only. My data and apps were kept intact.
2. Aroma installer is cool, loved the options.
3. No camera issues, no Bluetooth issues, no WiFi issues, no mic issues. In fact, so far, no issues none whatsoever.
4. My accounts, WiFi passwords, and Bluetooth pairings were gone. I wasn't expecting that. I reversed back to my original stock (always back up), made titanium backups for those, switched back to the ROM, then restored them back.
5. Magisk and supersu is working fully. Android pay also works. I also installed Google assistant thru magisk. I'm loving it.
6. No xposed yet, since it's nougat. It sucks, but it's not the ROMs fault.
7. I did not flash the Bluetooth and modem. I like what I had, and I'm keeping them
8. I don't do GApps. I like the stock apps.
For those of you who are looking for a variety, I recommend SuperStock. I tried lineage, remix and a few others, SuperStock seems to fit me the most. Magisk is the obvious benefit, and battery seems to be the same as before.

One more update: someone asked me about snapchat and Pokémon, whether they work. I have no idea, I'm too old for those things.
