I live very close to a hotel which has multiple SSID's that keep interfering with my ability to stay connected to my router.
I've tried hard coding a static ip on the phone, adding the mac address to router, even went as far as creating a separate unhidden network just for the phone. So far, nothing has worked.
So i was thinking that maybe there's a way to have the phone ignore certain signals, lock on to a preferred one or use WiFi but turn off the scanning feature. The only problem is that I haven't been able to find any settings or Apps that will allow me to do it.
So, if anyone has any ideas or suggestions as how, or if, I can make this work, I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm using a Droid 2 Rooted with 2.3.3 and have a Netgear N750 router.
BTW - none of the computers in the house are having this issue.

So, are you saying the phone constantly tries to leave your home wifi in favor of attempting to connect to the hotel's?
Yes, unless I'm within about 5 feet of my router, the hotel's signal makes the phone keep dropping and reconnecting over and over again.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Are the hotel's hotspots not WEP secured? That is so odd. If they're unsecured hotspots go over to the hotel and tell them to get their sh*t in order. Otherwise I'm out of ideas, sorry.
No, they are secure. WPA2 as is mine. I don't connect to them. My phone just detects them, drops my connection and tries to connect to them. So that leaves me with no connection and having to use 3G.
But there may be an easier solution to this. After spending a few hours on the Netgear site, it turns out that there is a bug in their firmware that causes signal strength fluctuations. They said a new release should be available in a few weeks.
In the meantime I've changed the channel on the router to auto select which seems to be helping.
I do appreciate you taking the time to assist.
Thanks!
Scott

Glad there's at least some kind of work around, wish I was of more assistance.
Having a similar problem with a samsung galaxy sii - current internet configuration is through AT&T U-Verse with built in Wireless G router in there Gateway. tried adding a Netgear dual band N router to my network and with the netgear's 2 wifi signals on then my phone just constantly goes into scanning mode and keeps trying to connect between the 3 - things work fine with the wifi turned off in the new netgear kind of defeating the purpose of me installing it - was hoping to have the phone use one of the N signals..
Block bt openzone connection pleaseee!
Desperately need an app for this? Is it not going to be possible for a way to block certain wifi signals because I'm actually going to rip next doors BT openzone router out of the wall and get a hammer to it! My HTC desire hd is insistent on connecting to its poor signal over our excellent one and the worst part is that you can't actually access the network unless you pay BT for a user account! Grrrr.... Please help
Try to connect the network you dont want, then go to wifi management in settings. Long press on the network you dont want and hit forget network. Then your phone shouldnt automatically connect to it unless you tell it to.
So, my wife got a Droid RAZR M. First thing we did was download the 2 updates from Verizon. Current version is 98.18.78.XT907.Verizon.en.US
I get home, and go to connect to my FIOS Actiontec MI424WR-GEN3i running the latest firmware available. (40.20.7)
Running WPA PSK, in b/g/n compatibility mode, with SSID on.
The phone refuses to connect. It will see the SSID, an even automatically identify that it's WPA PSK security. But when I go to connect, the signal drops to almost nothing, then doesn't connect. I make it forget the network and start fresh, same thing. Reboot the phone, same thing.
WPS is not active on the FIOS router firmware, so I can't try to connect via WPS.
I've got a Galaxy Nexus connected to the wifi and about 6 different wifi devices (laptops, xBox, HP Touchpad, etc). So, I know it's not the config of the router.
Anybody have any idea of what's going on with this thing? My wife doesn't want me to root it, but I'm getting close. However, please do not just suggest rooting it, because I would really like to resolve this wifi issue with the stock build.

I don't think rooting it will solve the issue. have you tried changing the router to WEP?

The m works fine on WPA PSK(as I am connected to a WPA PSK network as I type this).
This sounds like some of the bugs that have been reported before.
If I were you, I'd try a factory reset, and if that doesn't work, go back to the store. Since you're not rooted, you've got a good warranty claim. Last option is to root and try WiFi connection fixer, which worked for me in the past.
Good luck...

Turned it in under warranty today. Turns out the speaker you use when you hold the phone to your ear didn't work (my wife normally uses the speakerphone, so she didn't discover this till last night) We'll see what happens when we get it back next week. Worst part? They gave her this old LG Vortex running 2.2 as a loaner phone..... she is going nuts trying to deal with the low-res tiny screen and going back to 2.2 after being on 4.1 for so long really sucks.
Has anyone had any issues connecting to Wifi networks on their G2s? I got the verizon version on Saturday and haven't been able to get the phone working on 2 different wifi networks. I can connect to the wifi network just fine, but I can't access the internet at all. I can confirm that other devices are able to connect no problem.
Curious if anyone has some thoughts on how to potentially fix this. If not, will be heading back to Verizon to get a new one. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have the AT&T G2 version , it will connect to any wireless router but the connection will last 5 seconds then no internet, this is totally unacceptable I upgraded from the G-Pro and may go back as that never had this issue, I did read LG had a similar problem with the Nexus 4 and Optimus G
Mine works fine. I have a VZW G2 and an ATT G2 connected on the same router. It connects to both G and N networks.
No issues with my Verizon G2.

Did you try rebooting your router? I see this at home with the families iOS devices a lot, especially after heavy data traffic. I'll turn off the router for a couple hours or overnight and the next day all is well. Router is open, no encryption.

I have the exact same problem. It will sometimes transfer some data using browsers, but nothing on facebook, pandora, or the play store it will say connection lost or not data connection.
My wife has the same phone and it works no problem and also the laptop. Must be a dud wifi radio or something like that. Mine is going back to the store tomorrow.

Are you trying to use adblock by any chance? I was and it was causing the same issue you have. I uninstalled it and changed my proxy settings back to none and wifi is working great now.
Just received my LG G2 White brand new from T-Mobile about 2 hours ago. After many attempts to troubleshoot the issue it all failed. The problem is Wifi will connect to router and even work but after 30 seconds the connection goes down. The actual Wifi signal shows connected but no internet it gets stock. We tried resetting the phone and toggling with different features but still it did the same thing. T-Mobile is the worst they were trying to have me ship the phone back and leave me phone less for days. I complained and they are sending another one overnight but have charged me for the phone on my account. Mind you I've had months of bad service, after all I think I got a defective phone. I've read some other people having the same issue with other carriers. If I get another one with the same issue I'm jumping boat. If anyone knows of a work around let me know. I tried 2 different routers same issues connects then it randomly disconnects and stops downloading or transferring data.
Reset Phone - didn't work
Turned off mobile data - didn't work
Turned off wifi sleep - didn't work
I'm on Verizon. I have trouble with initial connection to wi-fi. It says obtaining IP address for a very long time. Even if I have a very strong signal. It takes about five minutes. It eventually connects and works fine. Then next time I try to connect to that router it works fine. It's only the first time I try to connect to a new router.
I just got this phone over the weekend and I was also having trouble connecting to my home wifi.
It would stay connected for 30 seconds or a couple of minutes then disconnect however the entire time the status under the Wi-Fi settings page says Connected even though I couldn't access the internet or the admin page of the router. Frustrating. If I turned off the mobile data, the wifi, the phone, the router, or some other unknown combination of events it would then reconnect again for another 30 seconds to a couple of minutes.
I called Verizon, they told me to take the phone back since I was within my 14 days. I did this and was optimistic. Then the new phone immediately experienced the same issue.
I did some more research, changed my router from 20 mhz channel width to auto 20/40 mhz. Not sure why it was set to just 20. I thought that would fix it. Nope.
I tried to set my phone to use a static IP, that didn't work either.
Then last night I tried the WPS Push Button option instead of using a password. This method worked and my phone stayed connected. I haven't had a chance to repeat my steps to verify it works again but wondering how other people are connecting, password, wps push button, wps pin? WPS is not my preferred option due to the security risks but just trying to track down what works and what doesn't.
I am able to connect at work just fine using a password.
I'm having a similar problem - my work network has no problem connecting while my home network almost never works with this phone (~25% of the time, other devices have no problem). Occasionally, resetting the phone or just turning on-and-off WiFi fixes the problem, but more often I just give up and use 4G. Anyway, if anyone finds a solution, please post! This is such a standard feature that should really work out of the box.
In case it helps, my home network uses "WPA/WPA2 PSK" security and my work connects to "802.1x EAP" security - also I'm not adverse to changing the security options if it fixes the problem.
Thanks! Nick
After reading more on this, I've decided this issue is router related not phone related.
I discovered my router reached end of life in April of this year is no longer receiving firmware updates. Newer versions of my router have received multiple updates since then.
I will be buying a new router. I report back on if it works.
I really don't think it is "router related" as all my other devices work as expected with my router. A new router may fix the problem, but I'm pretty sure the phone's WiFi is buggy and not the router..

In my situation it really appears to be how my router is handling the connection when I connect with a password since I can connect with limited security.
Does your router have a firmware update available for it? If so, have you applied it?
Received my new to me router yesterday with updated firmware as of 10/7/13.
My phone was connected for a few hours last night and I have not had any problems today. I'll report back if I start experiencing any issues but getting rid of my old, end of life router and replacing it with a newer router worked for me.
I did not buy a brand new router either. I went with a cradlepoint mbr95 which has been on the market for awhile and has already had a few firmware updates.
Check you wireless security settings
Had a similar issue to this and it seemingly was resolved when I moved the wireless router security over from WPA/WPA2 personal to WPA2 personal only. The phone found the WAP and connected right away. I tried to reproduce the behavior but alas I have not been able to do so. Perhaps this will help others.
hi guys
i found the problem
it happens just when you disable auto update in "settings>general>about phone>update center>software update>check automatically"
Hi Folks,
I have been postponing this post but nothing ive seemed to do has worked. I THINK after i rooted my issues started. I am unable to browse the net or anything when connected to my wifi. I have reset the router, forgotten and rejoined the network with no avail. All my other devices do not have this issue. Im not really sure what else to say so maybe some of you gurus could pick my brain. Though this is a wifi only issue and on this network. When connected to other networks im fine. My setup is as follows. I have a hard line going from the router the ISP provided in the other end of the house to the router in my room. Like i said my phone is the only device that has issues on this network.
thanks in advance.

That's a pretty strange issue, not sure there is going to be much help... I've had some strange, random issues with my S5. I had issues with wireless, xposed and some other apps after rooting the first time. I got tired of it and used Odin to reflash the stock firmware, then performed a factory reset and rooted afterwords. I haven't had any problems at all after doing this... In all honesty, that's the route I would go if I were you. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, hope you get sorted out

Just wanted to agree with BadKarma on this. I've not had your exact issue, but I have had some similar stuff after rooting originally. I used Odin to go back to stock and rooted again and have been no issues since. Hope it works out. . .

well i used odin and got back but it turns out it seems to be the router? im on stock with no root and still cant access the net or anything else when im connected to the router. any thoughts on this?
Can you reset the settings in the router via your pc?
Try connecting standing right next to the router. I had this issue with my Note 2 and it ended up being a physical issue with the wireless chip or antennas. It's actually the reason I'm not on a S5.
Not that u want to hear this, but I had to replace my router for the same reason. My router would only pick up certain devices, had to do with hardware and firewall security settings.

First and foremost you have to isolate the issue to either ur phone or the router. In order to do that its very simple.... can you connect to wifi outside of your house like starbucks or friends wfii? If the answer is yes than the issue lies solely with your router. Let me know what you find out and I can help guide you <---- systems administrator Also please provide the make and model of your router as well as your modem and your ISP.
EDIT: I just read the line where you talk about having another router in your room. I can already tell you this is probably NOT an issue with your phone but rather your setup. The secondary router must be setup as a repeater or bridge OR on a different subnet. This gets very tricky for average home user and I do not recommend you tackle it on your own. Also your main router has to be able to play nice with the secondary and if it's one provided by your ISP it's probably a POS. Also your phone is probably not the only device having issues with this setup.... its the only one you are noticing having issues. Android OS is very sensitive to weird wifi setups and anything out of the norm will set it off. It's actually a great tool in diagnosing wifi issues.

Hi there thanks for the reply. Yes i can connect to any other router without issue. The router is my Router Info:
Name N300 Wireless Router
Model F9K1002v5 (01B)
Firmware 5.00.15(Nov 1 2013)
Serial No. 12349GC2508237
Boot Loader 0.12
I use my tablet and other pcs within this wifi. It is under a different subnet as well. (i think so been a while since ive done any networking) The main router that comes in has the standard IP 192.168.1.1 and the IP for my router in my room (basically set up like this since my room is quite far and gets bad signal from the main router, Cable in -> Main Router -> Hardwire hooked into a port -> ethernet run to my room -> Connected to a port on the wireless router) 192.168.2.1. My ISP is Optimumn Online. My wifi was working fine until about 10 mins ago. seems to happen so often. I did change the security a while back to TKIP + AES on the router and made sure it was the same on the phone and it was working fine for days until like i said about 10 mins ago.

This leads me to think that perhaps the router (however old or new) may have a setting, or an actual limit, on how many devices connect to it.
If not that, perhaps if you rooted, and tried removing bloat, you may have been a bit overzealous and removed something related to WiFi and are now having this issue as a result.
I have only removed the list of apps and bloat that have been posted on Ricks Rom HERE. The ONLY problem I have seen since removing this list, was that I can no longer access PhotoVault correctly. Gives me an error saying that it has no connection to the database, but my 4G is working fine at the time as I was downloading via steam and streaming a movie, and playing a PC game at the same time...

You have the right setup with a different subnet. It's possible the main router is assigning the same IP address that your router has to another device. It would be best if you picked up another router that has repeater capabilities and set it up in repeater mode. Also reserve an IP address for your router from the main router to avoid IP conflicts.
Another possibility is simply the wifi on your router is deteriorating and it's time for a replacement. I recommend the Netgear Nighthawk R7000 if you don't mind spending the $$$. If your on a bit of a budget the Netgear N900 (WNDR4500v2) is the next best thing that supports repeater mode.
well its been still working intermediary. I have to unplug the router and plug it back in then i can browse the net on my phone. idk if id like to lay out that kind of money for a new router. there has to be something else thats causing it. i set the router to reboot everyday, also my phone. its odd though. sometimes it works sometimes it dosent.
Hello all,
I just recently upgraded from a GS6 Edge + using JoD, and admit I'm loving this phone. However, I'm experiencing a weird issue that (I believe) relates to my home network.
Here is what happens: I successfully connect to my network and all seems well. I have Internet with full bars. I can browse and watch videos with no issues. But when I go to the Play store, I cannot download any apps. They just say “downloading” and never actually initiate the download.
My temporary workaround that I've found to work is to disconnect and reconnect to my network, and I'm able to get 1 or 2 downloads before I experience the issue again.
If anyone has any ideas on a permanent solution, please let me know. Or if you need more information to help.
Thanks in advance!

I've experienced the same issue you're having on my office Wifi. The strange thing is when I connect to the office guest network, all is well. I'm also not able to download any photos from Google Photos so not sure if it's a google DNS thing or what. No issues on my home Wifi either.

Ok, I'm glad to hear I'm not alone (despite issue being bad). I think it might be a Google thing, because I've also found that I can't setup Google accounts on the WiFi because it just hangs on the log in and never actually logs in. I can switch to data and all is well.
I've also been on a different network that worked with no issues, similar to your case with the guest network. Seems to be something with a very specific type of network...

There's definitely some WiFi issues with the phone. I use WiFi Calling at the office and if I get out of range from the router in my office, it will not reconnect until I turn the screen on and unlock the phone.
Same here wifi is fine except with downloading from play store
I've had some WiFi issues as well. Sometimes, I'll have a full WiFi signal yet I lose all connection on my phone. I know my WiFi still works because I can access it from the computer or a Tablet. The only way to get the WiFi on the GS7 working again is by turning it off and back on.
I've noticed this too, but it seems to kill all internet and i have to cycle it..also I've noticed WiFi off several times

Ok guys, I'm hoping it's just a software issue with Samsung's Marshmallow that will be fixed soon. It's a shame considering the phone is so great in other aspects.

I'm glad that worked for you. On my end, setting the DNS to standard Google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4 don't fix the issue. I don't think my router is to blame as it's a fairly new Linksys and all the settings seem to be set up properly as I've never had the issue before this phone. I might need to tinker more though.

I've got an older Linksys N dual band at the office, upgraded to run DDWRT, and a Netgear AC router at home. I can reproduce the issue both places, so I'm confident it's an issue with software that T-Mobile/Samsung need to address.

Ok, well then I guess we should all try contacting T-mobile and letting them know about WiFi issues. I don't want to have this phone ruined by poor net code or whatever it is.

Though it was fixed, I still think it's something wrong with the software because I have several android devices (including both 5 and 6 android), but only two S7 edge have this issue.
I finally fixed the issue for me by setting the DNS of my router itself to Googles Public DNS addresses. Previously I thought changing it on the phone in network settings would do that, but apparently not! Now my phone is working great on my network.
Still an issue that needs to be addressed because some networks we don't have access to change anything.

I've been going back and forth with T-Mobile and Samsung on Twitter regarding my issues. Samsung wanted me to take my phone to Best Buy, where there is a Samsung Experience kiosk, and have it reloaded with factory firmware. I told them I already downloaded it from SamMobile and would just flash it myself in ODIN. Did that last night after backing my stuff up to the computer, and not a single difference has been made.
My WiFi is rock solid, as long as I don't walk out of range from the router. If I do, it will not reconnect until I turn the screen on. No need to unlock it, just need to turn it on.
Also have a ticket in with T-Mobile for the poor radio performance compared to the Note5. We'll see where that goes.

Yes it does. However my office is not in a Band 12 area and the signal is fluctuates between Edge and very weak H+. As soon as I get away from my section of the building however, full LTE and no need for WiFi.
I think this is the same problem I was having. Here's a link to my solution.

Although that may very well make it work, this is still something that Samsung and/or Google need to address as not every router's settings are accessible to everyone especially at work or public hotspots.

I know this won't help many (or anyone 'cuz lock bootloader ), but I think I might've disabled IPv6 on my previous phones, but you need root for that.
