Hi All,
I realise you guys must be sick of these kind of posts but just thought that one of you would be able to point me in the right direction before I do something else wrong!
I was rooted on d802, Cloudy 3.3 with TWP 2.8.6.1 installed. I was trying to get magisk to work but after flashing the various zips etc I left my phone for a few minutes and a toddler came along and swiped the install superSU prompt on TWRP that comes up before rebooting :/:/:/.
So now I am stuck in this "[720] Fastboot mode started". When I plug it into my computer I get a few other things popping up and on device manager it comes up as "Android Bootloader Interface", Device type Kedacom USB Device.
Before messing around with all these things I made a full backup with TWRP so if I can just get back to that I am hoping I will just be able to restore it? At the moment I am unable to get to recovery mode, it just keeps rebooting quickly showing the LG logo and proceeding to fastboot mode. I have tried the holding down power and vol d button but it happens so fast and doesnt seem to do anything.
Where should I go from here? There seem to be a lot of different methods and various things, the more I search the more ways I find!! What is best in my particular situation?
Also could somebody definitively tell me if Magisk will work with cloudy 3.3? I can find no mention anywhere on the internet of someone saying they have done it/got it to work.

Hi!
This way > http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/help/fixing-fastboot-mode-started-t2930963
And if it doesn't work I would make this > http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/help/noob-friendly-recovery-download-mode-t3112805
And you can find a list with all fixes right here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63327417&postcount=4
Good luck!
Thank you very much for your prompt reply !!
I kept trying with the power and volume down and managed to somehow get back into recovery, and then I recovered using the backup!! All back to normal now !
I've since updated to the latest twrp and that all went smoothly aswell.
Any word on whether magisk V9 will work with cloudy g2 3.3 ? I'm tempted to give it another go...
Use the unsu zip , uninstall xposed using the zip , then flash magisk , phh superuser and finally the cbump. I'm really tempted to try again but not sure if it was doing that , that messed it up last time or if it was twrp trying to install super su (Im quite sure it is probably the latter though). Any thoughts ?
EDIT: incase this helps anyone else, I think what I did was to keep the power and vol down held for a long time , if I remember correctly it seemed to cycle a few times through logo and then the fastboot screen until it finally switched off. Prior to this as soon as I thought it was off it would just start again. This time though it went through into the factory reset screen and then recovery.

That's a question for the CloudyRom-thread. I bet you're not the first with this question.

Hello my fellow XDA Members. I am stuck in a tight spot and after reading and re-reading some things the situation doesn't look very promising. I hope this is the moment that Karma shows up and I can get some help on this. Here it goes.
Specs - LG G2 D801 Variant > TWRP V2.8.3.1 > NO OS Currently
I was running Cloudy G3 Rom smoothly and got bored and decided to flash that new rom that is a 5.0 Rom all variants. Did the usual back ups and flashed it. Something happened when I flashed the rom. It went through the Aroma installer and then said "successful" but stuck in a bootloop. I tried it again and nothing happened. Then I tried to wipe everything again and started getting an E: Cannot mount (data or system I forget which as that error went away after I completely formatted data, wiped everything and reflashed Cloudy Stock. )
> Cloudy stock bootlooped and nothing is happening in TWRP. I Am using the USB OTG method of getting files on the phone and getting it charged but anytime I try to do anything (flash a rom, an older version of TWRP) it just immediately restarts TWRP and thats that. I have No OS at all.
> I tried to use one of the methods to get into download mode and flash a stock KDZ but the phone acts like it is going into DL mode (shows the little blue transition screen) but never gets into the ACTUAL download mode where the PC or flash tool can recognize it.
So in a nutshell > No OS > I can get into TWRP but it does nothing > No Download Mode > Don't want a new phone > Don't want to take it apart and try to short circuit anything if possible. LOL.
I am totally stuck here. I am done alot of work and even helped friends and family out with their devices over the years. I am just not sure if I need to consider it a done deal and get a new phone or maybe one of you guys know of something easy and obvious (please let it be the latter) I am missing. Thanks for any help you can offer. I Will be standing by.

I haven't thought about flashing a bootloader. How would I flash the bootloader if I can not the phone into either DL mode and or TWRP doesn't do anything either? Is a bootloader file just a flashable file like any other .zip file?

The first one I can not do as I do not have any knowledge at all of Ubuntu, Linux, or any of that. It would take forever to get a working knowledge of that software in order to get things going again. I would probably just have to either take it to a cellphone repair shop or get another phone before I could do the first link.
I have not tried the second one but it is a viable option. I was looking at it online and trying to talk myself down from having to do that. I would reallllllllly rather not have to take my phone apart if I can keep from so that's kind of what this post is all about. Just trying to see if anyone knows of ANYTHING else before I go taking apart my phone.
Can you describe more about "twrp doesnt do anything"?
Does twrp boot up?
Can u see/wipe partitions?
Can u install any rom in twrp? Does it finish?

TWRP boots and I can go into wipe, advanced wipe, and format data and it says it's successful. I can use file manager and move items back and forth from USB OTG. If I try to flash anything it just reboots TWRP immediately so I can't install any .zip files at all.
My guess is that your bootloader is damaged.
The only option i can see for you is that Ubuntu thing i shared with you. So, lets stop acting lazy and do what needs to be done. Dont scare since there is nothing to loose. LG G2 is unbrikable
Booting up ubuntu or any other linux os is so easy. And there is nothing much to learn. Trust me.
Go to ubuntu website and download their newest iso file. Burn it on dvd and boot it up. You dont have to install it, just choose "live mode" and it boots up. Just like that. Then yiu can proceed with tutorial mentioned above and it shouldnt take more than an hour from you. Its all typing some commands in terminal (remember CMD in windows!).
Just make sure to download the files mentioned in that tutorial before proceeding.

First of all calling people lazy is not nice. I'm not lazy I am trying to play it safe. I wouldn't want to brick it to the point to where I don't even have recovery and it can not even be charged any longer. I have Ubuntu on my desktop upstairs. I have used it a little. It's not that I am completely ignorant to Ubuntu I am just a total novice. Also the issue described in that post doesn't exactly match my situation. I am not in a black screen. It's more like a bootloop that I can not get out of because TWRP is not doing what it needs to do and I can not flash TWRP a ROM or get into DL mode at all. Also that post says,
"VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!! You must use the img files that correspond to the ROM you have installed before getting the problem to avoid breaking your phone."
I don't have a rom on my phone soooo...
You didn't answer my question well. If on TWRP you can finish installing rom without any error, and you keep coming to twrp after restarts, that's another situation. Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696
But if you cant even finish install in twrp (twrp gives you errors or just restarts before giving you "successful", either you have problem in rom you try to flash or you need to build everything up from start.
That lazy thing was for encouraging you to do it.
And you cant brick your device. There is always a way on G2.
For img files: find them from last stock rom that was working on your phone.

Hello, I am facing a major issue here, I had CM13 nightly 20151214 and I applied a theme, I even can't remember its name then the mobile rebooted then it stuck in a boot loop since then.
I have tried so many times and I can't get into the recovery!! Don't know why! I was on TWRP 2.8.7.3 bumped and everything was working perfect until that restart.
I still can access the download mode but I don't want to flash the stock rom now as I have so important files on the phone and I want to back it up first; and since I can't access the recovery to copy the files or flash another rom I am out of options!!
Your help is much appreciated here.

I think that Android M created a smaller /system partition and in turn caused problems when you wrote to it and did not have space left. The only thing I can suggest is keep trying to boot to recovery...

Try either the vol down plus power, and I know there is another but I can't remember it, just do some regarding the different bootloaders..
Try vol- plus power when see lg logo release and press volume+ and vouleme-
I couldn't access the recovery (despite the fact that I know the combination very well) and also wasn't able to flash a stock rom.
After many tried and so much help in the following thread, I was successfully able to install a stock rom and here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64331109&postcount=11256
Since the majority of the hardware between the devices is gonna be almost exactly the same, I'mma give a shot at rooting it. Picking up tomorrow, so hopefully it goes well

Yeah, I'll keep a heads up. I'm sitting in metro now tryna see what's going on, small argument. Their commercials in Philly don't mention that you need to switch carriers for the rebates.
I'll probably be getting one next week. Says it has 7.1.2 an it weighs less? Cool
attempt
Ok so I tried to root this and everything went well up ubtil I flashed Team win. When i try to open it, the program starts HOWEVER something is up with the touch screen. Im unable to click anything the only power button works. I tried flashing versions 3.0.0, 3.0.1, 3.0.2, 3.0.3. No luck! Is the problem they are old versions? Should i use 3.1.1 which was designed for Nougat supposedly?
Any advice this is my first attempt in to rooting android devices. Forgive me if any of my lingo is incorrect.

Are you trying to root the aristo or aristo 2?
Aristo 2. Sorry, kind of diving in head first with this whole process. If im doing something obviously wrong go easy on me lol.
---------- Post added at 11:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:25 PM ----------
Aristo 2
Hmm and you flashed the twrp that was for the aristo right?
Well the TWRP files i used were on *How To* forums posts and youtube videos for the original LG Aristo. Everything was going fine but the touch screen while in TWRP does not work. Maybe there os a different version I can try? Do any of you guys have any ideas, my understanding though is that TWRP has to be created for a specific device once released. Is thats whats going wrong?
you unlocked the bootloader and flashed the aristo 1 recovery thats what you did so far right?
The aristo 1 recovery will not work at all.
The screens are of the same build, but different composition.
That's why I wanted to test this myself before posting further on the subject.
I can risk my phone, most of you cant.
I figured as much. Thanks for the info! Just got mine today. Glad the aristo's battery works in the aristo2 as i bought a couple batteries for it. I still do like the aristo though it feels a bit better in my hand.
Well luckily It seems i have not screwed up my phone. Have reset and wiped it multiple times which was annoying, but seems to be ok. It sucks because it looks like the touch screen alone is whats screwing me over. If only i had a way around it. Then again im sure you guys have a better idea of whats going on. Guess ill just be patient until more is posted on subject.
We need a new recovery for this anyway. Since the aristo 2 isn't gonna have multiple versions (besides the Korean base model the 2 is built after), we should be able to build just one recovery using the model number as it's target, we can make it borderline universal if a new version were to pop up.
I decided against going the metro route, buying mine in bulk. So I'll have one to smash when this is all over.
The TWRP method works the same as the Aristo, and the TWRP recovery IS compatible. However the touch screen does not function.. Is there a way to get it to work?
@ninjasinabag @teknoweanie @tribal1209 Hey guys, spent a few hours figuring out how to root. Pretty Simple
1) Enable Developer Options, USB Debugging & OEM Unlock
2) Reboot to Fastboot Mode (Using ADB via PC type: adb reboot bootloader)
3) Add root_boot.img into your adb folder
4) In ADB type: fastboot flash boot root_boot.img
5) After flash successful, type: fastboot reboot
6) Install Magisk Manager App

Yes, it is. What I did was use LG firmware extractor and extracted the boot image, then I proceeded to patch the boot image with magisk manager. Enabling OEM unlock allows me to flash the boot image with the newly-created custom one. Remember though, you should create a backup of your device because enabling OEM unlock will completely erase everything.

Supposedly the img you posted is simply a modified version of Magisk you posted. Someone please explain to me (Who is new to this whole process) why this supposed explanation does not involve any recovery program or requiring of wiping/clearing any cache or what have you?
Hello all,
After 5 hours searching and almost done, it seems like the phone won against me...
I have a friend who has his device under Android5, latest version, and need at least Android 6 to update his bank app, which required this update to work normally.
The worst part here, is that the device has the down volume button not working anymore (at all)
I wa a little rusty because I moved two years ago to iOS, but I have some memories with my old samsung and Nexus 6 flashing.
So here's what I've tried so far, I can forgot to mention some stuff because it's been a long work lol
So I have a 1GB SD Card and my indows 10 computer.
- I started to download and install all ADB and fastboot drivers.
- I've activated Debugged mod and OEM Unlock. I couldn't find if the bootloader is allowed for unlock or not, because the command didn't work. So I supposed that yes, it is. The device is the J3 SM-J320FN bought in France, new.
ADB work perfectly, but I didnt manage to get the device recognsied with the Fastboot mode. "ADB Devices" list the phone, but fastboot devices command does not show anything, it goes back to another line.
My friend didn't mentionned that he has installed a recovery. I don't know how, but the recovery is very basic. Here's a photo of the recovery screen. It appear when i press Vol+, home and power button, but I can't move anywehre because of the low volume button not working. Vol-, home and power doesn't work for the Download mode.
I finally managed to enter in download mode by using the command ADB REBOOT DOWNLOAD. With that, I honestly don't remember how I did it, but I think I've flashed a file which allow me to root the device from ODIN. With this, I've got confirmation of Root Checker app that the device is now rooted.
I've passed many hours to make some tests here and there, but nothing gave me a real result. Then I found two apps : ROM Manager and Flashfire.
ROM Manager : The app says that it doesn't find Superuser in System/bin/su. So it's like the device is not rooted. Nothing seems to work on the app too.
Flashfire : It seems like this app can do the job, but I can't finalize the process. So I've changed the year of the phone to 2013 to get the app running, I've tried a wipe, and here... Yahoooo ! A big Loading screen with many line codes, and then... nothing. My computer make the sound to say that it recognised the device, and a full blackscreen for 10mn. Exactly same process if I try to flash a ROM, or whatever action (even doing a backup).
I suppose it's because the app wasnt granted the root permissions. Not sure, because even if the phone seems to have the root status, I never get any pop up to ask if I allow to get the permission or not. I've tried to dwnload the APK for SuperSU app or something, and nothing seems to work.
So now, It looks like i'm close, but I also think that there is nothing more to do.
The device is powering on, with all its data, and seems rooted, but I can't do anything. It seems like the recovery is the only option to go trough the install.
So you guys, do you have any ideas of what can I do ?
I'd like to install LineageOS, but any ROM with Android 6.0 min. will be fine for me.
Also, pardon my english. I'm french lol
Thank you for your help..!

So why not just install Marshmallow with Odin?
After that install TWRP the same way?
Is it possible ?
I though that only installing custom rom will allow the phone to go beyond 5.1. Because the phone can’t find any update on OTA.
So if I download the correct file, flashing it should work ?
Thanks for the answer

I assumed the J320 had received the MM update. However it seems not.
In that case custom is the only way. For that you will need to install twrp with Odin.
Exactly what I though yesterday. I will call him to see what can I do.
So the latest versions of TWRP are compatible with the touch screen, and then the volume down button isn’t required to process ? After the recovery installed, I will be able to find the zip of the custom rom and install it right ?
Thank you again

Twrp is touch driven so no need for hard keys.
The only issue is that you need to reboot immediately into recovery mode after flashing twrp.
As down isn't working you will need to leave auto reboot enabled and catch it at the right moment to boot to recovery as it reboots.
Excellent. I will try that and will let you know. Thank you
I should have left well enough alone.
I was updating things so... I used twrp to install a new rom, magisk etc...
Then just though why not update twrp while I am at it.
I tried installing twrp-3.6.2_9-0-h910.img while inside my old version of twrp (not sure what version...)
Anyway - chose to install the .img file to recovery partition
Went to boot straight away back into my new recovery and got a kernel panic screen.
Booting to recovery gives me kernel panic every time
Regular boot gives me the LG symbol forever - more than 10 minutes
Now seems I am completely ____________'d
Seems I should know what to try next - but it's been a while since I have been doing this...
Thanks in advance.

I also found my initial LGUP before I rooted last time so the nerves have calmed and the tremors have stopped. HaHa. It was too late last night and I SOOOO should not have been flashing in TWRP.

No problem.
Another thing you could try and do is flash twrp via fastboot and see what happens.
Update twrp. twrp-3.6.2_9-0-h910.img
With the phone off hold vol down plug USB into phone and computer.
type on your computer:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.6.2_9-0-h910.img
fastbboot reboot
take battery out
put back in
go into twrp by doing a factory reset.
Thanks a ton @Darnrain1 !!
Yep - that was all I had to do to get TWRP back was fastboot flash it in and now I restored an old backup and have my phone back.
I appreciate it. Happy New Year and all the best.
