Title says it all. Phone is completely stock too. I was at work on break, sent a text, and then put it in my pocket. Checked it once more and the screen wouldn't turn on. The phone was at half battery and everything. Just got the phone 2 days ago new. But nothing will boot, no recovery. Not even connecting the charger. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. Makes me feel like LG isn't that reliable, coming from an HTC.

Hey guys,
I've done some searching on this issue, yet I can't find much besides battery problems, or people who have contacted T Mobile and got warranty replacements. I've had some issues with my G1. Over the past month or two, my G1 has been rebooting repetitively, and this week it's gotten BAD. I would open a SMS, and then BAM. Start dialer, and then BAM. Reboot. Hell, even in the middle of a reboot it would reboot. Cool huh?
Anyways I called T-mobile customer support and they said I'm out of warranty. Great. Well, it still turns on, and it still operates when it's happy, so maybe I can work with this for a little bit... I did some searching, and some people attributed it to a software glitch in the gyroscope... Most people called T-mobile and got a warranty replacement. I'm over the one-year
I'm not about to say this is because I had CyanogenMod on it, because I would wipe, and put it back to an older version and it would still reboot... even in the SPL, it would reboot. But regardless, I decided to follow this how-to to unroot my G1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=491350
After step 6 (6. Push Alt+S on your G1 to flash it with update.zip), it came up with an error about the splash... "Cant store hboot image."
Well anyways, before I could do anything about it, guess what happened?
Yeah, it rebooted.
It came up with the unboxing logo at first, I didn't know what to do. I had forgotten what this meant, so I heled the power button down ( I realize this may have been the misteak I made, however there was nothing visual indicating anything was being done).
It shut down, the screen went blank, the charge LED remained on....
I pressed power.... Nothing.
I unplugged the phone, took out the battery.... put the battery back in... Nothing. The screen stayed black. Now my phone will not power up, and there is no LED charging indicator.
Anyways, I'm lost. This is my second G1. I'm slightly pissed and I feel bad for the T-Mobile rep on the other end of the call I just had, but, really, I can't spend $1200 a year on a slow phone.
Do any of you guys have any suggestions?
Home+power does nothing.
Camera+power does nothing.
Putting in the cable lights up no LEDs...
It is literally a brick. An unresponsive brick.
Well, I ended up taking the mainboard out of my old phone and putting it in this G1.... Everything should be back to normal however I'm still looking for responses as to what might be happening.
Note: THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A ROM UPDATE!!!
Okay... My HD2 has had Android on NAND since last year. No big problems with it, until last week, when it FROZE when I charged it (the screen was still on, but that was it...). I took out the battery and re-inserted it a number of times, and it all seemed OK...
...Until it happened again.
Only this time, it didn't turn on AT ALL. I'm no good at explaining things, so bear with me on this one:
You know how the phone has a very soft and short vibration, followed by a more intense, longer one when turning on the HD2? well, the phone only does the short and soft one, and that's about it... Nothing else...
Does anyone here know what's going on? Is there any way to fix this without returning it? If I do have to return it, is there any way I can retrieve the data on the internal memory? Will they be able to see the flashed ROM?
(Note: It's past its warranty.)
Have you tried to get into boot loader mode? Also who is your provider? Last but not least....You said it was charging and you had the screen on? I don't know about you or anyone else but when I charge my phone I make sure the screens off. It just gets hot while its charging with the screen on. If you have done this more than once it might be damaged from the heat.
mine only vibrates once when I turn it on, not sure what second one you're talking about.
hold the down arrow when you turn it on and see if you can get into the tri-color screen, you can flash WM6.5 or whatever from there.
Past its warranty?
I thought HTC gave 24 months of warranty worldwide?!

i thought that aswell
@jvillejoe:
I have tried to go into bootloader mode, yet nothing happens. My HD2 is from Telstra (I live down under in Australia). Lastly, the charge light doesn't come up if I plug it in while the screen's off, so I have to plug it in while it's on, and then I can lock it as I please. I think it's a NAND-related problem.
@orangekid:
There's an almost unfeelable, really quiet vibration about a second before the usual normal one. To hear it, just put the phone next to your ear (not necessarily the speaker) and turn it on. If that doesn't work, it might be because it only happens on a Telstra phone (I honestly have no idea). And no, it won't let me into the tri-colour screen.
@lukesan:
24 months? I always thought it was 12! Well if I do ship it in, will they be able to detect the flashed rom/illegal Android/everything else? How much jail time do I get if they do?
This isn't the first time it's happened. It's happened about 4 times before, even when it wasn't charging. It usually fixed itself when I took out and re-inserted the battery a couple of times. Are these freezes a result of an app going haywire? Does somebody know the cause!?
well are all the battery pins in place? did they not bend a bit or something?
Yea sounds more like your battery to me

No it couldn't be that... It slightly vibrates a few seconds after I re-insert the battery and then does nothing... but I did notice that the phone would make these small vibrations every once in a while if I leave the battery in, which has convinced me that the battery isn't the problem.

That really sounds like a dead HD2. Them vibrations usually happens when people flash a European HD2 radio on a US.
What happens when you plug it in to your PC? Can you hear a little sound to know that the phone is connected?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I had a similar problem (minus the soft vibration). You should try a different charge battery. If that does not help to get in boot-loader screen, I hope your phone is still under warranty.
you wouldn't go to jail? i'm sure flashing your phone voids the warranty but idk if you'd go to prison
My X Play has been having issues since approx. the beginning of this year. Sometimes the phone shut itself off, when it was being laid on a table (gently). I sent it to Motorola to repair, it came back without this issue.
But one or two weeks ago, the issue started coming back. And today, it shut itself of at 60% and the white LED is on. When I go in the bootloader, it says "battery OK". But when I boot it, the Motorola logo comes, and then it shuts down again.
Excluding the issues of the battery, I have never drained the battery under 15%.
What should I try, except getting a replacement tomorrow. (Well I hope this time I'll get a new one, and not only a "repair").
Edit: It booted again, after I slapped it once. (I know, not the best solution, but well, it worked at least)
Try to get new one if your device is locked and on warranty.
Yeah, try to get a new one. Slap your device to get it on ? Doesn't sound like s2w (slap 2 wake) is a normal supported feature. Wish you luck.
I'm rooted on Verizon, so I've been getting the vibration on boot thing. I swapped my battery earlier today and it was all vibratey as usual, then I noticed it wasn't vibrating on notifications.
I'm getting nothing out of it now, it won't vibrate period. Is there anything that can be done or checked or something, or is that a pretty straightforward dead motor kind of thing?
Update:
Good lord, phones are weird... So all day in between work stuff I've been looking at doing an unroot/return to stock thing to get Verizon to swap me out, no vibrating all day long... I just put my phone on to charge and the damn thing buzzed at me... Apparently my vibrator just needed a day off (that's what she said). So nevermind.
Put it back to stock and return phone.
I had the same issue. It's going to do it again and eventually stop all together.
Ok, so this all started about a week ago. My dad has had this phone and for the most part has enjoyed it. The other day he calls (from the house phone) to let me know that his phone doesn't work. I was expecting the typical black screen so hold all the buttons to force a reboot and boom hero for the day.
God no. This phone would suddenly not boot properly at all. I mean I had trouble getting stock Recovery mode to even come up or download mode. I bought a new battery thinking it could help. Twice now I have managed to use ODIN to reflash stock firmware of 7.1.1 . Both times the phone would be fine and suddenly it would turn off and bam the same thing over again. Firmware screwed and it doesn't want to turn on reliably. Recovery mode would display all sorts of errors with mounting /efs and dm verity errors....
This must be a hardware problem right? I don't know what else to think at this point. Is it possible the restore of his backup from sammy cloud is corrupting it? I am willing to try this one more time and not restore any of his files or is it hopeless? Is there something fried?
And just for the record, I am not new to ODIN/Rooting/Custom Roms/ etc but at no point EVER has this damn phone been attempted to be rooted or anything. I hope someone has something positive to share or just put me out of my misery so I can destroy this f******* phone into a thousand pieces.
Has anyone ever had an issue where the plastic back cover is somehow causing the phone to short out or overload which makes it freeze or turn off? I swear this back cover is the cause of all of this. Last night i reflashed everything and really just forgot to put the cover on. It stayed on all night without a single issue. I rebooted and powered down multiple times and it turned right back on. Then I put the back cover on and what do you know, difficulties with powering on and freezing.
On the top right above the sim/microsd slot there is that spot with metal looking conduction material or something and it is also at the bottom near the charge port. What are those things? At this point the phone has become a pet project and I just have to have the answer. My dad already got a new phone lol. Any ideas?
