Faking Moto X Pure as Nexus 6 - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I tried to use the good old trick of editing the build.prop to fake the device as Nexus 6 (trying to activate project Fi sim), but it's not working. I read online that this trick isn't working with newer Android. Just wondering if anyone knows a new method that may help achieve this goal. Please share if you know anything.
Thank you,

Just reporting back. That didn't work. I also noticed that pure nexus rom identified itself as XT1575

Fi sim also works for pixel then why not try to add Google assistant as if u add Google assistant and flash some files given in this theead
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/guide-how-to-enable-google-assistant-t3477879
Ur phone modle no will be pixel xl...
I tried and the modle no changed but i didnt try the fi sim but u should give a shot as there are multiple ways to do one thing
Do report back if not ill be ready with something other but ill make sure that u succeed
Edit: follow 2nd method.. It'll be better
And for that u need nougat rom.. Flash any stable nougat rom wid 7.1.1 gapps and then try to follow the method which i said

Thank you for your ongoing support. I really appreciate it. Unfortunately, I'm stuck. I've tried various Nougat ROMs (currently on CM14). Pure Nexus Nougat is non-functional (can't boot). I tried AOSP ROM. I tried to change build.prop, and I tried using the flashing method. Neither worked. My phone keeps displaying Moto X Pure and XT1575. So, it can't activate the Project Fi sim. I don't know what else to do

Did u also flashed google assistant side by?? The model no should have changed..
We have more ways.. Download get assistant from play store.. Make sure u have enabled root from devs option and then click on get assistant.. Reboot ur phone and it must work...
This will 100% change the model no to pixel xl and then try the fi sim..

I flashed the "super" version of 7.1 gapps from here: http://opengapps.org/
I read that the super version contained pretty much everything. And, I did find everything included. such as project fi, etc as system apps. So, I'm guessing that that part is correct. I'm trying to redo this whole thing from scratch. Could you tell me if this is right?
Step 1: I reverted back to stock.
Step 2: Bootloader is still unlocked. I installed TWRP.
Step 3: Installed CM14 and flash gapps (super version for 7.1)
Step 4: Boot up, enable developer mode and set root access to apps and adb.
Step 5: Set root access mode for CM file manager
Step 6: Either edit build.prop manually or use the flash method
Please let me know if I'm missing any steps.

If you are talking about google assistant, it is built into any nougat android natively, so there is nothing to download from the playstore.

Never mind. I found it. It's Get Assistant - Root, right? I'll try it right now. I just backed up fresh install of CM14 with gapps super. So, I'll try this. If it doesn't work, I'll be able to restore and try other methods (if you can think of any). I'll report back.

Using Get Assistant, the device model changed to Pixel XL, but the device name remains Moto X Pure Edition (under about phone). I feel like I'm one step closer. Any idea how I can take care of the device name? It's still not activating.

Gr8 now just change the device name.. By editing build prop..... I dont know what pixel needs to be set but i think u need to search for it...
Edit: set device name as pixel xl

Is there any word of CyanogenMod or any other coustom ROMs for this device yet? Just picked up the LSMG550 this evening. Rooted using the guide in OP (also linked at the bottom of my post)
My question is this; Are there any coustom ROMs, or a bloated stock ROM for the LGMS550 (Metro PCS variant LG G Stylo 2 Plus)? I could not find any in my searches, but that is to say I didn't over look them.

We have no developers I don't think , we out sourced to get recovery and root. . But it's cool because we have root and Xposed I'm pretty happy
So I have been using my phone rooted with boot loader unlocked... If I re-lock the bootloader does that remove root from the system??.. Sorry, a bit of a noob on this. Secondly, if locking back up the boot loader does not harm root is there a reason one should do so?

I don't think you can run root with bootloader locked,i could be wrong. But if you lock it your phone will probably reset itself to factory so I would think root would be gone. Also don't think the twrp will work with it locked
OK. I wasn't sure. This is first phone I had to Unlock the bootloader to gain root. My previous devices I used king root.. So this whole process of rooting the LG stylo 2 has been a learning experience. Thank you for your help.
How do I install V4A if I can't swipe to allow modifications. I don't want to brick or bootloop.
Nvm figured it out sorry for being a noob
Few tested Xposed module which works on stock ROM:
1) App Setting ( change DPI to 270 safely, anything below that will give you continuous phone app crash), you might have to change the LG system level apps(Phone, contacts, music, camera) DPI to 320 for them to work.
2) GravityBox MM (many options work) including the circle battery, clock, date, data speed indicator

Working Hotspot Without Provisioning Check Guide

For those like myself that want to be able to use hotspot and do not have a custom ROM with it already enabled I found a working solution:
Step 1
Download this hacked apk here:
http://downloadmirror.co/Usp/CarrierEntitlement.apk
Step 2
Your going to want to paste this inside /system_root/system/priv-app/CarrierEntitlement and replace the one already there.
Step 3
Change the permissions on the hacked apk to match the ones on the original (so it functions the same way)
I have attached a screenshot from Root Explorer as to what the correct permissions settings looks like.
Step 4
Reboot and profit.
Cheers,
Jake

Yes because it requires overwriting a system apk. But this is easily achieved with flashing the SuperSU zip in TWRP
Can you explain how this is different than editing the build prop? Also what carrier are you using this mod with?

This might be a stupid question but can I unroot after making the change?
I suppose. It will stay until you change roms or update. Long as you don't reflash anything it will persist.
If I choose to root device only, Pixel XL, and apply this method, will I still be able to receive the software/security updates from Google? I believe if you have a custom rom installed, it wouldn't work.

What exactly is the process to unroot without a reset? I've rooted every device I've owned and never went back... Until this one. I like android pay... So no root for now. Would love to do the mod and unroot if possible to keep Android pay working. But tethering is far more important than taping my phone to pay.
Inside SuperSU app there an Full Unroot option that will do it for you

Just side load the OTA image. Wont wipe a thing
You can just add the following line to your build.prop file, save and reboot then the provisioning check will be bypassed.
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
I'm curious why this method is better than the one already listed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/themes/mod-tethermod-systemless-install-guide-t3501448
The one linked above can be binded to the /su directory and will survive OTA's...plus it comes with an installer if you use TWRP

Looks like I'll be rooting tonight then. But in reality other than tethering, I really have no need for root, or a need to jump on 7.1.1 just yet.... Unless there is some shiny new toy hidden inside it lol

Pixel devices are also having the same issue...
A/B partitions are the culprit..
Magisk dev is working on getting it supported officially...

Just need some patience.
We might get system less root access after that...

There should be penalties for resurrecting old threads (1 yr ago!) with nonsense replies. The TWRP problem is partially solved and there should be no issue with installing TWRP on this device.

So far it's great, I know a lot of people won't like the left hand clock and the other visual changes but I personally love them. Battery standby seems amazing so far but it's too early to tell.
You can use this thread to talk about Android p, installation questions or report what apps don't work/misbehave.
I've noticed a few apps pop up a toast message mentioning a possible mismatch on API but so far I haven't had an FC.

I'd love to try this but I can't. I'm trying via sideload and getting footer is wrong, signature verification failed, error 21. Does it have to be a manual flash instead of sideload? If so, that may be an issue since Verizon had to replace my Google purchased Pixel (no more warranty from Google but I have a VZW extended warranty). I think I now have the Verizon version where there were questions about unlocking the bootloader. I've only had it for a week so I haven't looked into the possibilities of unlocking.

Flash GSI Roms on Razer Phone 2!

While looking around and trying to compile TWRP and getting errors doing so, I have finall come accross a solution as to how to get GSI roms to boot, it seems we needed special flash instructions and im eve gonna test some other things later. But without further do, here are the instructions!
Step 1: Go here and read instructions CAREFULLY! "https://www.xda-developers.com/flash-generic-system-image-project-treble-device/"
Step 2: We need special flash instructions so flash this command. "fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img" (Special flashing instructions here https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...18&postcount=2)
Step 3: if it doesnt work, try again. I am currently booting into Phh-Treble.
Step 4: Rejoice as we can now get away from stock!
Credits where credit is due !
UPDATE: Okay so, pretty sure dm-verify is making it so it doesnt fully boot :/ still working on it.

what you want to do is downlaod the stock rom, unzup it to desktop. copy your boot.img to your phone. download magisk manager from the xda thread. install the manager and then patch the boot.img. reboot the phone and you'll see it in your downlads. copy that to your stock rom folder (you'll need adb and fastboot files). run the command "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and youre rooted. but at this current time root is kinda pointless.
also... be sure to check out the root guide first. forgot you need to unlock bootloader and critical.

I'm kind of a noob in this regard. Can I PM you to get further Details on the rooting?
"but at this current time root is kinda pointless."
Also your right about this. There's currently no effective use for it right now. But there will soon be more in the future for the phone i believe. I think more people are starting to communicate and experiment with the RP2

i read more on the razer forum that it was the same with them as well, except they can flash pie roms too using a baked boot image with magisk in it.

Does everything work? Are you able to change the displays refresh rate and resolution or the logo backlight? Do you have WiFi and speaker issues? I'm really just after better stability
