Samsung SM-G9350 only getting 3G - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I recently received a Samsung S7 Edge model SM-G9350 - International Version
When the phone boots up, it shows an animation of a Android man being filled with Jelly Beans.....Yet, the android versions shows 6.0.1.
I am on Rogers, and can only get 3G and not 4G/LTE. I followed the instructions to set up the APN still without luck.
Every carrier including Rogers in the list shoe 2G and 3G only.
Any one else run into this and had it rectified?

your phone maybe a clone phone aka fake. do u have any pics of the phone?

I think you may be correct..... I paid $420.00 for this used phone.
My Son picked it up for me....met the seller at a fast food place....... I do not think my Son knew the difference. Even myself....it took some digging to see what appears to be a very good clone.
My Son said he thinks he knows where the young fellow works.....he is going to see if he can find him.
I will post pics ASAP.

its a fake 100% sorry

Ah damn, you got ripped off.
Probably doesn't even have an LTE modem hence not being able to connect to LTE.
Grab the seller and beat the crap out of him.

Yes, I believe my Son did not notice the boot up screen and once into the settings....this clone has almost all of the same settings menu etc.

yeah now a days you have to be careful buying phone off like craigslist or ebay. I use swappa.com it is the best to buy a cellphone from.

Hi,
I believe it's a fake, an easy way to verify that is booting in download mode, that is, turn off phone and boot it up pressing volume up and home button alongside the power button. Even though the bootscreen already showed to you that it was a fake, if you get a better replica it would be probably more focused on these details, the download mode is exclusive, if you search for any video or picture of S7 Download Mode you'll see how it should be and compare to how your is. If there is not download mode, then it's a certain fake.
All the best,
~Lord

news! woooooohoooooo! Bell Galaxy S "vibrant" is really a i9000 (updated)

So i just got out of a couple stores that had a working demo phone
I played around with it, and the only thing different between the Bell version and the i9000 version is the extra Bell Application for PVR everything else is stock just like the UK version, allshare, lanyard, etc, etc
It has the front facing camera, and the only difference is that it runs on 850/1900 instead of 900/1900
on, and guess what? the best part is....
It is the 16GB version!!!!!!!!! 13.##GB of actual usable space after the 1.8GB partitioned for stock phone apps!!!
I was inside the mall, so there was no chance to test the GPS thing, but it had Navteq turn by turn, Google Map, and My location app installed, all started up and ran, but when trying to pick up the satellites which obviously it couldn't because I was in the lower floors of the mall.
It appears to have a new firmware, i was so exited playing around with it, and chatting so much, i forgot to memorize the firmware version it was on, but it was something like J5 or whatever.
I also wanted to confirm if it was unlocked or not, but both places didn't let me try my own SIM card in it, for obvious reason LOL
Bad news is.... it's not going to be available Aug 6 as shown on the Bell website, most Bells places i asked they said next week, only a few selected store will actually have it on the release date, I've not yet been able to figure out which locations yet.
I tried to bribe the store clerk to sell me the demo unit, which was actually brand new, he took it out of the box wrapped in shrink wrap and everything, but he did not budge
All the people in the stores I've been to, they said they'll be getting their own as well which funny enough, all of them currently are on the iphone LOL
Darn it... time to list my Europe i9000 version on ebay
Hopefully i can nail down which stores will have them on the launch day, I'll be the first in line
- Edit -
Additional info, the unit was made in Korea
- Edit 2: NEWs Update! -
Tomorrow Aug 6, only 1 store will have stock for the launch day, it's located at Yonge & Eglinton... boy that mall it's going to be super packed!
I hope no one is crazy enough to line up at 1 am in the morning (it's a work day after all)
There will be free prizes and chances to win other stuff.
This is like wow!, just like the launch day of StarCraft 2, pretty crazy stuff, the line up is going to be very very long.
The rest of the Bell stores will get some stocks next week, as already confirmed on my previous visit to several Bell stores yesterday.
keeping my finger crossed to see if i can pick up one tomorrow, it'll be nice to be able to pick up 3G underground, because right now only on 1900 some places i only get EDGE, due the missing 850 for 3G (running the international 9000 version)
Niceeeee...
Any way you can buy another unit and ship it my way. Send you the money in advance.
I know i going out of line here but i thought i give it a try. LOL. But seriously.
If it has different radio bands, i am sure the actual model number is different.
But otherwise, good news.
If anyone finds where to buy these unlocked, let us know.
Does it have the 2100 band also?
i paid around $700 for my 16gb i9000...... this makes me very, very sad....
Interesting. I wonder if you also get the schizophrenic bipolar GPS tracking performance too then. No one gets lost as well as the european. I saw an unbranded unlocked 580€ 16GB unit at a store here today. Not sure but you'd probably still need a paper map and 2€ compass even with all the storage space.
i wouldn't be that happy just yet, until some one can confirm if it can be unlocked, or if it is unlocked already as most other have found out from the USA versions.
if only i can find a store where they would let me try my Fido SIM then we'll know for sure
This is Bell we are talking about, of course it will be locked.
The real test is going to be trying to find a place that will issue an unlock code. So far I haven't been able to find one.
You see the samsung NZ website is listing the galaxy i9000 for nz as having
850/1900/2100 3g
http://nz.samsungmobile.com/mobile-phones/samsung-i9000-specification

No idea when it is coming though, but all phones sold in nz are unlocked at least...
ohhh nice find, it's worth keeping an eye on those too.

if u check this out it has the same spec and its from the uk site :S

noooo you are getting confused with the other line.
pay attention to this section:

3G Band 850 / 1,900 / 2,100
http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/...dex.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=specification
3G Band 900 / 1900 / 2100
that's the difference, everything else is the same
if this is really unlocked from New Zealand, then i'll probably order one from there instead of from Bell, unless some one can confirm it's unlocked from Bell
just found this out, the live launch of the Bell Galaxy S

I would say just J5 without the G, why? well, we had JG5 and now JM5, it could be that the official firmware update will be just J5. Speculation

[Q] Help, just purchased S4

Hey everyone!
I purchased an S4 yesterday from a guy on Craigslist. This S4 does not have any type of branding on it at all, so my guess is that it is the international unlocked S4. The About Phone section says it is a GT-I9500, baseband version is I9500XXUAMDK.
I took it to MetroPCS today (which ride off of T-Mobile towers) and activated the device onto their network. However, I am stuck on EDGE!!
I do not know what to do. It has been quite some time since I have been working with Android phones. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is it? Baseband version and model number are legit ... this is the international exynos variant s4
Also according to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellular_frequencies
MetroPCS uses CDMA/EVDO tech for data ... while the i9500 which u have supports only gsm bands and HSPA+ for data ...
That's why u are stuck on edge/2g

Yeah, I ran a test with an app in the play store that detects. It has less than 1GB of RAM and only 720p video. The camera quality kinda sucks too.
MetroPCS teamed with T-Mobile, so they should be on HSPA+ now. That is why I took the "S4" there.

S5 model help!?

Hello I recently purchased a galaxy s5 on Craigslist and thought it was an unlocked version but when I got home and looked closer the model number of the phone is SM-G900 ... Does anyone know what carrier the phone originated on?i can't seem to find anything online about this version as all other carriers have a letter after the 900 telling you what carrier it's to. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Also with the version will I get lte on att network?
Nobody can read anything in that tiny screenshot man

Yeah, the screenshot is just a thumbnail. As far as I know, there's a few unlocked versions out there, where the G900W8 and G900F support 4G, and the G900H does not. The G900T is Tmobile's phone, but it is unlocked, supports 4G, and works on AT&T's networks. It looks like whoever sold this to you tried to get one over on you by hiding the letter, because if the actual model of the phone turns out to be G900H, then you won't be able to use 4G on AT&T, because, hardware-wise, the G900H doesn't have the bands necessary to use 4G.
If you can't find it in system info, see what happens when you plug it into your computer. Sometimes (in my case for one), Will say something like: "What would you like to do with this device?"
And then give you the model number of the phone.
If it still turns out to be G900 with no letter, then who knows? Maybe it's some model manufactured straight from Samsung designed to be a developer device. I'm not sure if this is possible, but it's the only other explanation I can come up with.

New SM-g935fd owner in USA confused

I caveat by saying the forum would not let me post anywhere but the general forum right now so that's why I'm posting here.
I've read a bunch of conflicting threads and info lately but nothing concise in regards to what I'm trying to do and need some help.
This is my first ever android phone. I'm coming from an iPhone 6 as a heavy business user. WiFi Calling is extremely important because my house has terrible cell reception. I recently purchased an SM-G935FD (duos phone) and I'm a USA AT&T customer. I rooted the phone day one but had not yet swapped the SIM card. I chose the DUOs because I do quite a bit of international travel and I liked the hardware of the XYNOS platform better than snapdragon. Unfortunately I didn't realize or suspect that WiFI calling would potentially become a problem. I could care less about Samsung or Apple Pay for that matter, nor do I really care about Voltos. But wifi calling is a deal breaker.
I rooted the phone, and I put flash fire on there but really don't know how to use it. I found some people saying that my phone can accept both the SM-G935F firmwares and FD firmwares, but others who were skeptical. And people saying that there were firmwares that did have wifi calling enabled and others who said no.
At the moment I am back on the iPhone 6 because the Samsung is useless to me until I figure out how to get wifi calling enabled on there.
So... I'm confused. IS there a firmware I can flash my rooted unlocked S7 that will enable this? How exactly do I go about doing that with either flash fire or smart switch? I looked, but I am having difficulty finding a guide on doing this. The phone is already a paperweight, but I don't want to brick it as well lol.
Thanks for the help.

Actually I think I got it figured out. I changed the CSC using TWRC over to an att USA CSC and that seems to have at least enabled the menus for this functionality. I haven't moved the SIM back over there to test it though.

I would move this thread to the AT&T specific section. My understanding is that specific drivers are needed to do WiFi calling on AT&T and it's not baked in and the model you bought is not sold in the states whether it's sim unlocked or not. Also, why would you root/jailbreak a phone running an OS that you have no real experience with? If you can't get it to work then I'd return it and either buy the AT&T version outright an have them unlock it for you or go to Best Buy, Amazon or Samsung themselves and buy the single sim unlocked version. You may still have issues with that unlocked version if AT&T's Wifi calling is as locked up as I remember. T-Mobiles wifi calling works with your handset but it also has oddities such as the TMO sim must be in sim slot 1 to work. Because that model is not normally used with U.S. carriers .. they kinda don't give a crap about it so the work is on you.
Since this is your first Android phone .. I don't want you to think this is a problem with the OS or even with Samsung. It's just how things work. Apple allows carrier specific network files to be pushed to iOS where that's not the case with Android. I think maybe backup and stop hacking on things would be a good piece of advice. Take it for what it is. I just would like to prevent another iOS switcher from running around saying Android suck because things didn't go the way they thought would.
Cheers.

Ok slow down. I don't think any of that at all regarding saying or
Thinking android sucks nor would I make such a conclusion. Lol. Also couldn't put the thread there, wouldn't let me create a thread over there (said im "too newb")
I'm a LONG time older comp sci major who works for a software company and has been doing consulting for a number of years. All day every day I deal with every software imaginable. It just HAPPENS that this is my first android phone, and Therefore is not that familiar to me yet. The only reason I had an iPhone and idevices (all jailbroken) in the first place was because at the time, my company was locked to Apple mobile devices. I'm actually simultaneously working with piemessage to try and get a VM up and running to allow me to use iMessage on Android
Also I understand their may be some nuisances of screwing with other packages and drivers. I did do the CSC update and that "enabled" at least the menus and the ability to turn the features On. Whether or not it's working, I have no idea. Without a SIN card inserted however, I was able to place a cal using google hangouts dialer without any issue whatsoever, but as that is a different app then the actual phone dialer... I'm not sure if that proves anything. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but making a wifi cal through Hangouts Dialer connected to my google voice number without a SIM card inserted is different than dialing a number using the phone app.
Unfortunately, the only real way for me to test it, is to take the SIM back out of my iPhone, call att again and have them switch the IMEI again. At least google voice wouldn't configure properly until I did that and it took forever to get the call forwarding reset. And my problem is I'm going on a business trip tomorrow and don't have the time to be swapping SIM cards back and forth.
Maybe I'll just put it in letter without calling AT&T and see if it works anyways. Are there any prevalent icons up at the top to indicate it's a wifi call being made vs a cell call?

Yeah, ya never know what folks know.
I've just encountered a lot of folks who are smart techies who have used iPhones for a long time and Android frustrates them and then they freak out. My bad. I apologize.
I still think you need to check the AT&T specific section. I've read that the proper support for AT&T's wifi calling isn't baked into AOSP like T-Mobile has theirs baked in. This could have changed but I don't think so. The other calls ie. Hangouts, Google Voice and Skype aren't controlled by AT&T so I would assume they'd work regardless. The wifi calling registers with AT&T's servers/routers ... what they require for this handshake I'm not entirely sure. I know that when I tried it out using my Nexus 6P it didn't work out of the box but I didn't spend a lot of time on it either.
Ah. I get you about the business trip thing. It's why I bought the unlocked S7E .. I have to swap to often when traveling. I did this after I bought the version you have. I found that 1 sim slot would do LTE/3G/2G and the other was stuck on 2G only and that it would random switch from sim 1 to sim 2 when I was in the States with my personal TMO sim and my work AT&T simcard. It was too irritating so now I just expense the TMO account and gave back the AT&T sim. Not an option for everyone .. I get that.
Also, I did read that AT&T likes to jack folks around on speed when it's not one of their phones and there is a fix involving the EMEI number being changed in your account .. I can't remember where on XDA I found that trick but I'm sure a search will find it for you.
Hope you get it working. The S7E is a nice phone.
Safe travels. Cheers.

The BYOD firmware isn't available for the S10 yet but when it is I'm pretty sure you will have to flash the carrier U firmware to take advantage of that when it's available. For now I think you have to flash each carrier separately to get their features because a simple sim swap dosen't do it. The U1 firmware witch the unlocked version from Samsung has shouldn't get the carrier bloat otherwise that would make it just like the carriers versions witch would defeat the purpose of purchasing the unlocked from Samsung. I have two unlocked Note8's from Samsung here and they don't have any carrier bloat like the Verizon U versions and what not.
I had the unlocked Samsung S8+ directly from Samsung and my only complaint was all the carriers would receive the updates before I did.

anyone got a direct link where i can be guided how to install a ATT firmware then? that'll be better for me i believe
I got an unlocked version of the s10 plus and thought I made the mistake also. I seem to be getting everything my tmobile s8 plus did like wifi calling and hotspot. I believe I can even surface the web while on the phone like I could do before switching. The unlocked version just doesnt have the boot splash screen that I hated. I think I will try and buy unlocked from now on

You should be able to return your phone for a carrier through Samsung or sell it. Someone would rather have an unlocked version compared to a carrier version. One just sold on Ebay today for 1,000. Hell I was thinking about selling mine and getting another one from Samsung

Tmobile carried simultaneous voice+data forever. It's standard for GSM networks with 3G or greater. Even the 1st android phone could do it. So you must've used Sprint before, where they gained that feature recently.
Unlocked models receive OS updates last, but seem to get consistent security patches.
