I haven't seen this asked or answered anywhere so I apologize if it was. But, is it possible for us to have custom kernels now? I get that the bootloader is locked but couldn't a kernel be flashed with FlashFire?

Don't you need to have root to use FlashFire?
I am rooted.

Hello,
Just as the title suggests I am curious if I am able to use a I9505 rom on a I337m S4? It seems that theoretically it would work considering the hardware is the exact same (correct me if I'm wrong) but I'm just curious if it were to work could I potentially run into issues with the baseband being different? Sorry I'm really new to this whole flashing thing
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
PhantomMango
Yes. I used foxhound for a while on my i337. I had to use an auto-loki recovery but you won't need to if you have an i337m. Just make a backup and don't flash i9500 roms.

Really? I had a whole thread on this question lol well atleast someone answered it somewhere else. I had the impression you could not since i tried to flash a rom from the i9505 section and it did not boot after that. I had to use one from here , It didnt make much sense why they wouldnt be compatible in the first place. So you can use roms that are from i9505?? Maybe I had a bad flash ??
Did you flash a kernel from here right after flashing the rom? I would download a kernel and the loki-doki zip. Try the kernel first and if it doesn't boot, try Loki-doki zip then boot. Like I said, I used foxhound for about a month not one issue.

Wow thanks for the replies everyone!
But I just have some more questions, when choosing a custom ROM do they already come with a kernel or do I have to "supply" my own that made for my is particular carrier? And I assume it would just be trial and error to find out which kernels work best with a particular ROM. Or should I just use the custom Kernel that the ROM developer suggests since I337m has an unlocked bootloader.
Thanks,
PhantomMango

You may have run into these issues if you have the ATT i337 -- as posters above have said, you'll need to apply the loki patch or otherwise your device won't boot.
i337M (Canadian) users, to my understanding, should be able to flash i9505 ROMs as is, given the unlocked bootloader.

I believe some stock kernels will work, not sure if all will. I used Omega on my i337m with KTs T-Mobile Kernel and it worked really well.
Thanks for the feedback so far,
But I just want to be 100% sure that I am able to flash this ROM on my phone after rooting. I am wanting to flash this ROM using this guide so can somebody again provide reassurance to me that this would work on my I337m phone and not brick it. I just don't want to cause any confusion with what I meant by custom ROM (In this case AOSP).
Thanks,
PhantomMango
I wouldn't follow guides outside of XDA. There are plenty here that have been proven to work. Read the ROM's OP and first/last 20 pages at least. Your're bootloader is unlocked so no loki-doki needed.
For Canadian, you want the TMO kernel from here--the TW Jellybean 4.3 one and follow flash instructions in KT's OP there
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2289140
Always Nandroid before flashing new things and have sdcard backups on pc as well as the Nandroid
And if still uncertain--READ READ READ

Just one last question should I be worried about a unsecure root abd with that kernel?
Thanks,

Oh, OK then. I had heard that term and probably read about it. Just forgot. The kernel is OK for you. Just don't use his ATT ones. Just the TMO.
for those w/ bootloaders locked before the 4.4.2 update
only bootloader that's "worked" is phillz
So this is quick, wanted to let you know that you can unlock 4.4.2.
1.Towelroot
2.SU
3.Motopacolypse (spl) apk
4. Install TWRP/CWM like the other threads tell you too
BOOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!!!
FINALLY!!!!
Can i get a linaro rom w/ some kernel ups ?:fingers-crossed:
Another thread for this?
You managed to miss all the other threads that are on here?

Besides this being posted within the wrong section there is already multiple threads for this, we do not need another one.

I am still unclear on what exactly we can/can't do with the G900V [locked bootloader OG5/OK3].
Can we use Clockwork Recovery? Can we use xposed? Can we flash Marshmellow ROMs?
Can we use the other ROM slots?
Or do all the same rules that applied to pre-OG5/OK3 root users who had rooted on 4.x still apply to us?

Yes to xposed, no to the rest. It's the same deal, except you can only run lollipop TW roms. No rom slots, safestrap only.
Awesome! Thank you for the clarification!
A bit offtopic, I was under impression the heartrate bug was related to the ROM, but I just experienced it on OptimalROM. Can I fix it now that I have root, or is there a fix already available
I followed the keep root method for the ok2 on a forum here and worked perfectly now I want a custom rom but don't now how to tell if it will work for my phone

If your bootloader is locked, and I believe it is since the phone is probably running a stock rooted 5.01 ROM, you cannot install a custom recovery which means you cannot flash any custom ROM that is not based on a stock touchwiz ROM.

Can we downgrade to a version before lollipop and flash custom roms ?
Nope, downgrading is not possible. You'll be limited to using safe strap to flash tw based Roms. Cm and aosp Roms are not possible.
No, you can't down grade to anything you could flash a custom recovery to. Look into safestrap.

As in the guide "the keep root method for OK2" clearly stated that the lowest you can downgrade the ATTS4 is kitkat NB1.
Since you are on OK2 bootlaoder and want to install the custom rom I suggest you need to find the OK2 based TW custom rom.
Because the bootloader is locked, you can not install the custom recovery like TWRP. You are stuck with either safestrap or flashfire.
I recommend to use the flashfire since safestrap is too tricky to work with lollipop. With flashfire you can flash tw based custom rom in the lollipop.
Has any one root the T-Mobile s7e with it already on 7.0?
I have been looking but not sure . I tried to root with the method on here but I get stuck in a bootloop when it restarts after flashing the AP boot file in Odin I have tried several ways. I want to know also. I'm running 7.0 and g935t .
Yes been out for a few days, haven't tried myself yet.

Using ambasadii rom for few days and it works nice
Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/android-nougat-7-0-beta-1-rom-test-t3498664
But you need custom recovery, and rom is debloated + rooted
Just get a custom recovery, disable encryption and flash latest SuperSU 2.79 or Magisk. All good
Am I missing something.....why are the people above me saying to put a custom revovery on tmobile variant.... afaik that's not possible.

I think that every exons proccesor (Europe) can be rooted.
But im not sure. I got my S7 from germany and its unlocked. No TMobile or other carrier.
Everything works good ?
T mobile is snapdragon. There is 7.0 root, it uses another engineering Bootloader
Right but there's no custom recovery, no custom kernel, no custom Rom, which is what the user was suggesting. Doesn't make sense. At least not for US variants.

OP, i thought was asking for root. Flashfire is basically our only recovery atm for usa hence locked bootloader.. no custom kernels but we can tweak kernel via kernel author. We have custom roms but it's TouchWiz based.(stang 5.0 rom is awesome) Still better then having nothing imo.. xposed+root apps+romcontrol+system write, makes sense and worthwhile for me.
