Might seem like a stupid question but I've never owned an Android and I got a Nexus 4 on the way
I've seen people making complicated wallpapers in the shape of the + sign to accommodate for scrolling or something like that, but I really have no idea if that even applies to the Nexus 4.
All of that out of the way, what would be the ideal dimensions to make a Nexus 4 Wallpaper at?

Depends on the launcher you use. With the stock launcher, the wallpaper size is 1436x1196. With Nova, the size is 1536x1280. I don't know about the other launchers.

Pretty much since that's the resolution of the screen if you're using the Google launcher. It's largely depended on the launcher you are using.
i've been using gel for a while and i swear the first time i installed it, it was a 6x6 grid, now it's 5x5. can anyone just let me know what they have to put my mind at ease. i swear it was 6x6 like the stock launcher we've had for ages.

Hope your mind is now at ease.

Just to be clear, this is "Google Now Launcher" not "Google Experience Launcher" that play store edition phones have. Ok, sorry, just checked and it's the same thing, somehow i thought that google now launcher is a simplified version of google experience launcher. It's the same thing
Nevertheless it's a very nice launcher, simple and sleek.
.. and it's available now on all phones with android 4.1+
It is Google now launcher

Gnl is very good
I hate the icon size, and the draw is awful, so uninstalled it, shame really.
Xposed GEL Settings (requires Xposed Framework) allows you to change such things as icon size and drawer layout, along with many other things:

Slight lag when exiting app drawer to home screen. I will stick with Nova.
Nova launcher FTW!

Nova launcher is the best
I do use Nova Prime with most of its features set to imitate the GNL, icon sizes and drawer included. It feels so much better.
is working really fine with gel settings, but i don't know how to resize the icons of the app drawer

Changing the number of rows and/or columns will make the icons smaller / larger.

I've been running it since Friday. I like it, very similar to the Moto G stock, but it let's us add/delete launcher screens again. Icons are a touch larger. The Google notifications page is just a slide away - I don't use that much, but I may start paying more attention to it.

same, i dig the bigger icons but i rather use Nova so I enlarged them to look more like GNL.
I dislike GNL because of the drawer... Impossible to sort our applications in tabs... I keep Nova Launcher... The only feature I miss on Nova is the slide to the left to see Google Now.
I used GNL for a couple of months and I really enjoyed the swipe left google now, but I recently swithed to nova because of the customization and backup options. I think that I'm going to stick with nova for a while.

Hi guys I searched for images that are my phones advertised dimensions but when I want to set them as a wallpaper I have to crop the image which is not what I want to do. I have to crop a large section of it out for it to fit.
Does anyone know what resolution I should be looking for to fit my screen. One which best uses the highest resolution but also makes use of the screen size.
I am looking for a Mitsubishi evo wallpaper.

I mean install nova launcher free on google play
After that when you want to set your wallpaper, just turn on nova ( dont set it defaut app if dont want ) and set. Nova launcher can keep origin wallpaper resolution

That's a misnomer - digital images don't have a resolution, only a number of pixels. I assume that's what you're looking for.
Just take one of the installed wallpapers and see what its dimensions are.
Try zedge...

Finally put nova launcher on, cannot stand that white mess at the bottom of my screen with the pixel launcher when using anything other than a black wallpaper, i mean what the hell was Google thinking with that awful looking feature, i really have no idea, either way glad I did cause now been able to get rid of that unsightly long Google search bar as well, and don't know if I'm imagining it but now since I've switched to the nova launcher and have ambient display disabled the phone is unlocking faster to screen on without the Google launcher ? so seems it's not just the ambient display issue but also seems to be the pixel launcher is lagging, go figure but it's faster for me, hip hooray.
Funny, I just switched to Nova Launcher yesterday. I don't care for the search bar either. I am looking for the APK that will allow Google Feed to work with it.
But I don't think the phone unlocks any faster than with the stock launcher. Each phone, like each person, is unique so I don't doubt that you see unlock speed gains.
But yeah, I don't now why I waited so long to switch to Nova. It rocks!

Yeah I don't know why I didn't do it sooner, my home screen is so much cleaner and can have light wallpapers haha, I'm not sure if it's me but it does feel a bit quicker, could be in my head.

Thanks this worked, it's one of the reasons i didn't want a different launcher but with the wahed out crap at the bottom and the ugly search bar, this now works with a swipe to the left cheers.
Also just to add i am certain the phone is now unlocking faster with nova installed and ambient display disabled, it's win win all round.
i love nova, but the only reason i stick with the pixel launcher is because google can query the google weather API more reliably and frequently than third parties (like Nova) can, so the weather display is more accurate on google's pixel launcher

Also can that be used not rooted, I don't want to root.
And does the modified launcher get rid of that ugly search bar ?
The search bar is not hideable with that rootless pixel launcher unfortunately and there's no mention of removing the white cloud at the bottom of the screen.... here's my nova setup, so much more room on the home screen.
