XT1641 Any Love for Us? - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Question. I barely see any content regarding the XT 1641. Now i see majority of these Roms require the nougat soak test as a pre requisite. Does the soak work for the xt1641? If so then Im good. If not can these Roms be installed over marshmallow? Ive seen some issues (irrelevant to me) that may occur without nougat soak and modem in.

@daeshawn yes, you can flash any ROM over MM-Modem, i am also enjoying all N ROMs over MM, as SOAK updates taken from XT1643 Indian variant, may not preferable for outside variants...
Only issue you will face is, FINGERPRINT enrollment... Read my post 6 in Help thread for get FPs into work ( weak english, hope you understand this and that post also )

Thx for the response
And yes I understood completely[emoji2]

Hi. Soak test will work perfect with your xt1641. I own that variety.. follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/nougat-xt164-t3484405/page4
Basically you have to update to the latest MM build witch it's Indian and for the xt1643. But it will work fine. After that you can flash the soak test without a problem. But in the thread I point you the soak provided it's an older one. After that, 2 more has come, so you could search for the last one..

Rooting when updated to 5.0.1

Hi all. I am getting my new Moto G today (XT1068) and want to have lolipop but also need root. I was wondering how I would do this? Also if I do manage to get root while on 5.0.1 can I use OTA to 5.0.2 or would I need to un-root first? I am new to rooting so I'd like the easiest way possible, thanks for your time!
Hello,
I'd like to say hello to everyone and BIG thanks for the community as a whole. This place is pure awesomeness.
I've got similiar question to OP. Got the retaildsdsall xt1068, haven't unlocked or rooted before and I'm currently on 5.0.2, 22.21.28.titan_retaildsds.retaildsdsall.en.03 reteu
I've been on retaildsdsall and upgraded using to newly captured OTA zip from SOAK for the xt1068, by copying it to the root of sd and upgrading using normal ota updater.
Everything went fine!
My question is, what is the most reliable way to root my device?
Is there any possibility to root without having to unlock? Will Chainfire's autoroot[dot]chainfire[dot]eu work for me? I read that there is a version which is ok for Lollipop, updated by Chainfire, but I can't seem to find it or confirm that it'll work.
Please shed some light on to that. Any experiences?
Hi @Reizoko & @Silent_Infiltrator
1. You have to unlock Bootloader to Root.
2. Install TWRP Recovery
3. Download and Flash latest BETA of SuperSU v2.44
Thats all
Note: You can't use OTA to update while rooted. You have to do a full unroot.

Right, seems easy enough. I guess I'll wait with stock unrooted until a bug-free version of 5.0 is out, will be good to make sure phone is all right aswell...

Well, the Brazil Soak Test version of Lollipop is really smooth and Bug Free, the Indian version.. Not so much! If you want to try Lollipop, I would recommend the Brazil Soak Test.
Hey
Just wanted to give quick heads-up on to the matter of rooting 5.0.2. Thanks for the tips, I did it as follows:
1. Got my European Moto G xt1068 (dual-sim version) updated to 5.0.2 using captured OTA zip here.
2. Unlocked my bootloader by following official Motorola guide.
3. Downloaded newest TWRP 2.8.4.0 from Original Development.
4. Used Fastboot to only boot TWRP by executing: fastboot boot twrp.img
5. Flashed newest SuperSU 2.44.
6. Enjoying root.
Thanks!

Krishna is not wrong as the XT1068 and 69 are pretty much the same. Only difference is the modems and radios I believe.

The version no of the soak test is same as in the screenshot...
22.21.32.en.03
Not yet in Europe (the Netherlands) on unbranded E.
I got the official update (5.0.2) 22.21.32.en.03 I have pulled it from /cache . Will upload it soon
EDIT: The official update and the soak test update both have the same MD5 hash. Looks like nothing was changed. Not gonna bother to upload it. If you guys want to update to the official update, flash the soak test. It is exactly the same.

i was just wondering if the official lollipop for moto e is any different from the soak test.
I don't think so that soak test or official update is diffrent thing
They both have same version same MD5
---------- Post added at 02:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:50 PM ----------
Bro lemme clear something to you u really knw what's the exactly mean of soak test its a release from the moto for some of there users to get feedback about the release if soak test hav any bug or somthing they will make bug free and there after release the final update and for all users not for the limited one only its just a Test build but soak test haven't any bug so they don't need to do anything further so they release the official update for all and the official update version and MD5 same as soak test there is only name's confusion nothing else one is soak test release and other one is official update but both are same and its my own thinking

Will Motorola provide an update to Marshmallow?

Since some variants of Moto E still didn't get the 5.1 update, Do you think Motorola is planning to update directly to Marshmallow ?
I would hope so
Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Tapatalk
I think it's easier for them to prepare an update from a single version, so if guess they'd update everything to 5.1 or 5.11 then to m
Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Tapatalk
it won't be direct update for sure, It will get 6.0 but we will have to wait a long time
Its a recently released device. Its highly unlikely not to get a direct ota update on android 6.0
At this rate we might get a stable custom ROM of marshmallow before we get the official update
Official M is likely to come, because device is rather new, And Surnia device already has the 5.1 update (at least in some countries) or only US?
or are Motorola Europe waiting for android M instead of continuing pushing 5.1 release

I mean the rate in which the developers are making progress to build stable roms for this phone here in xda (cm12.1,RR,PAC etc).

Wow, so it only gets 1 incremental update & 1 stage fright patch? The phone literally released in 2015, yet it has achieved EOL only a few months after it's released, surely this is just a joke...even the Moto G features the same SD410 so there's no excuse.

There is excuse, it's called price
I've been thinking about this. I wonder if they're just getting done variants first because it become their priority and their new business model. It doesn't necessarily mean they're going to leave us all in the dark on the carriers. They also did have the disclaimer on the web page that its all subject to change. I'm going to hold off on my rage a little bit and see what happens.
To be honest the only thing I'm interested in in marshmallow is Google on tap.

The Moto G 2013 saw official support from 4.3 to 5.1 ... I guess Lenovo is likely going to push a 3rd gen E that's keeping in line with the design of the current series.

I'd imagine we will probably get M eventually. I just don't think Motorola wanted to commit to the update until it had the source code and could verify it would run fine on a device this low spec'd.

Well we're not on Motos list...devices that weren't on the list for 5.X never received it. Source was pushed to AOSP on the 5th...I think its a entry level/disposable device in their eyes and they're looking to the next gen already. But to be fair they guaranteed "1" update and I guess that was 5.0.2 to 5.1...

Will Moto G4+ with SOAK test Nougat, get the official OTA update to Nougat?

The title basically explains my question, I have a moto g4+ with the soak test Nougat installed but I see some discrepancies in it such as the lack of nougat icons. I wanna know if the final nougat build update will be available for those of us with the soak test Nougat. Of course I don't expect people to know the answer to my question so your opinion is what I want.
