Cyanogen is saying its a bug. Tmo is saying its a feature. which one is correct?
If it is indeed a bug how would tmo go about fixing our phones? mass recall? sweep under the rug?
If its a feature, is it a precursor to what future phones will be?
Either outcome isnt very good for the consumer and may lead to lots of lost customers for tmo. Specially after tmo releasing a statement that its a feature of the phone.
I love this phone, the very first smartphone i ever had, and was really looking forward to hacking around with it but its hard to justify such a device that locks you out of such features. I hope cyanogen and all the other great devs work out a solution to this problem. I dont want to send it back.

People are being jerks for sure, but OP, you should search better cuz your question has been answered in several threads. The short of it is NO. It is not a bug in the sense you are thinking. It is an intentional bug which tricks linux (android os) into thinking writes to the system files during root are being made when in actuality, the writes are only being written to cache. Once the cache is cleared during reboot the root access is erased because it wasn't actually written to the system in the first place. It's not a bug that needs to be fixed. It's a bug that was placed there to fool the system and make permanent root more...challenging.

There is a very informational Wiki out. Check it out. It will get you up to date with all the work that has been done towards root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2
The important part of the question.. for me.. is whether the Z has the same bugFeature.
I see one random user saying that they flashed a G2 rom on a Desire Z and nothing more. Have I missed something? Kinda hard to say yay or nay based solely on that.
"Intentional Bug" ????
If it's intentional, it's NOT a bug.

Thank you XfooYen for the info. I did a quick search before I posted(the posting page even searches similar post before you publish them) and found nothing similar. I will make sure to search more thoroughly next time.
I am familiar with the current situation with root, I just though that if a well known developer like cyanogen thinks that its a bug that maybe the readers of xda might want to discuss his possible ratonale for such a statement, then again that may not have been what he was trying to say and got it misrepresented by the media. Instead I saw nothing but irrelevent and pointless posts. For a second I thought this was gizmodo or engadget.
Thank you again. Its good to know that xda has readers who actually know what they are talking about and not just the average troll.

Actually, you're wrong.
RT @cyanogen: @garok89 yeah, and the statement tmobile made is technically wrong. theres nothing that restores the phone, its actually what i'd call a bug

Are you kidding? You posted in that thread too, so it got moved to the very top of the list. So, this thread and that one are pretty much next to each other... how else would I have noticed?
I know you're new, but this is just cluttering up a forum where many people, including yourself, are here to find help, info, etc. Flagrantly duplicating threads like this does NOT help.

let the mods delete this thread and i'm waiting someone to help me in other thread, ok?
So, here's the screenshot of my WLD for kernal wakelocks.
Don't count deep sleep in this, as I reboot my phone every morning as a temporary solution. But finally thought of making this thread after having so low battery life.
Whenever I connect my USB to computer for charging or AC Charger, the wakelock starts. Yes I have read so many threads about the same problem, but what I have seen is, it can be completely removed by using custom kernals, roms etc.
I'm a very normal user till now, with no knowledge on how to root, use custom roms, or flash kernals or w/e. I am a simple nexus 4 user with stock android which I absolutely love, but I hate the fact that Google haven't given a crucial update about this problem and left the customers of their stock android with no solution other than just reboot as a temporary fix.
So, anyone there help me out please to how to correct this problem in stock android ? I have already tried reset, and though it did help for first few days, but eventually the problem comes back again.
Please don't tell me to learn rooting, and other stuff. Yes, when the times come , I sure will get to know alot about these things, but I'm busy with my real life for now and would really like to stop this problem for the time being, till I learn the upper level stuff.
Please don't reply me saying what apps I use and stuff, I'm a n00b I know, but now of that level who doesn't know anything. I know the apps isn't causing this, it's the USB connector and sometimes the 3G ( which I use rarely these days now just because of this problem. )
Thanks in advance for helping a n00b out here. :highfive:
If you don't want to put time in getting to know android. You will never fix wake locks. They will keep coming (I had 3 different ones in the first 3 weeks I got my N4).
Fixing wake locks will only have result if you look into it.
Telling that you won't even bother to is not working either way.

Good comment, thanks for the reply/
Now, I already said on my first post that, yes I will be learning android soon, but not right now or for atleast couple of months as I don't have time in my real life. I have gotten couple of wake locks too, but all can be resolved easily except the one caused by USB. I trust Google, and that was my primary reason to buy a Nexus 4. If you want to say that this error can only be removed by custom kernals and whatnot, so that means 80% of people will be facing this problem. ( not counting the 20% of people that are either devs or just want to customise their nexus 4 ).
So, google will not care abt those people ? Nice. Great! I don't want to learn how to flash custom kernals, and I can't resolve the problems Nexus 4 has. Awesome.

Man, Please don't reply with those silly links. I have already said in my first post that I have read many many threads about it by using the search function. My problem is not exactly the same mentioned in that thread.Either way, I have read enough and I want a fix which can be done on stock android and not customized one. Either by Google or by devs here who can suggest something regarding this.
I was too soon with my judgement then.
To be honest. I think 80% of the people with N4's have wake locks. Only they don't look into battery drains and the other signs.
I had a HTC Desire HD for 2 years and had only 2 or 3 wake locks in that time.
The N4 is much more sensitive to wake locks in my opinion. Maybe it has to do with the newer android version. That I don't know.

Well, in that case, I think you don't even know how to read, because the answer is already there on the "Android OS" wakelock as I said. If you want magical and quick answers, guess what?, there are none. You came here asking for help, we answered according what we think are good answers, but if you think this is silly, then keep your phone like that; at the end, you are the one with the problem, not us.
You want fixes and answers without making anything, so how do you expect to find a solution to your problem?.
And one more thing, I don't know if you haven't noticed, but this is not Google, so doubtfully you will get an answer from them.

Funny you directed your message by saying "we" ... guess it's time for facepalm. Other thing, you linked, no that is not my problem dude. I have already mentioned this in IRC too and got appropriate response. Custom kernal is only solution for this, so I'll be learning that. The one you gave, is related to excessive data usage via location settings which is clearly not my problem.
He is right by saying we. He meant the people who responded to your thread.
The way you answer to him is not going to motivate people to get you a solution either. Welcome on XDA

When I say "We", I mean the XDA community and the people who responded to your question. No need to check the grammar and syntax of an answer when you want a solution.

It seems that you are kind of "slow learning", so I will say to you why the thread could help you if you would make a proper reading. The image you posted clearly states what the problem is, it is called "msm_hsic_host" wakelock. The most probable thing is that you don't even know what is this, because of the childish and noobish behavior you have.
So, in the thread I gave you, as I said before, I give solution to 2 problems; the first one is related to Google Services battery drain, and the second one is to Android OS battery drain. Anyway the your problem is the second one, and in the first post, you can see something like this:
= = = = = = =
Android System Battery Drain
About Android System battery drains, I have found 2 posts that could help of people who made tests and possibly resolved the issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44537106&postcount=7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44541018&postcount=5
= = = = = = =
No hard to find, if you at least read the whole post once. So, in case you already read and search many forums and thread, which I doubtfully believe, you can see there are tons of threats regarding this. The answer to most of this wakelocks, is not the kernel, but it is the radio. Kernel doesn't care in most situations when the problem is radio and signal.
I hope you can at least read those two to find that those are your problem. The answer was always there, but again, people is lazy and want magical solutions because "You are busy with your real life for now and you would really like to stop this problem for the time being, till you learn the upper level stuff.".

I never talk about excessive data usage via location settings. Such a thing doesn't exist. I don't know where you read that. One more time, you are showing you don't read nor search anything.

Hey all, i don't know why but recently my phone has been very very very sensitive to any like flicks or small drops to the table or even when i'm walking. Any of those will lead to reboots, i thought it was the rom I was running and it wasn't! i even reverted back to stock and i still had the problem.. I switched batteries with my friend and it's still there...
Has anyone else ever had the problem? or just time to move on..
I seem to be (intermittently) getting this problem too.....
And there is another thread where someone else is reporting a similar issue......
3 phones.......similar problems.....
Who knows.....more than likely hardware.....
