So water got on my mtxp ..probably got under the screen..hour after the colors would fade when screen unlock and lines shown..now phone responds to power off and on..sound works but screen stays black. ..think I need a new screen or software related?..anybody have the same issue?
Doubt it is software related if it happened out of the blue like that unless you were flashing or modding something. Minor water damage can be kind of a slow moving thing. You might not see all the problems you're going to have just yet.
My wife left a phone laying face down in a thin film of water once; not submerged, it was actually just from a really heavy dew. Probably for about 30 minutes or less. When I found it I turned it off immediately and threw it in a bag of rice. The next day it powered up ok, but had some discoloration in part of the screen. Over the course of the next few weeks the "stain" spread around most of the screen. The "stain" actually got to where it was almost so uniform you couldn't see it anymore. It was an old phone anyway so she replaced it. We gave it to one of the kids to play with. Within the next few weeks it started having random reboots, and by about two months after the water exposure the battery wouldn't hold more than about 5 minutes charge. I'm pretty sure it was all related to the initial water damage, because it had zero issues to start with.
Not trying to discourage you, but just use caution with how much you want to invest fixing an unknown. It would suck to replace the screen, then have the motherboard or the battery turn goofy. The MXP sells pretty cheap lightly used and even new these days, or maybe you deserve an upgrade for the Holidays.

Well, after my HD2 was dropped for the third time to the solid ground from my desk height (75cm) ... The first two times nothing happened, astonishing...
however, the third drop was stronger, and my Screen on the right up corner turned into BLACK covering the OK and Battery ICONS...
I have noticed that after three days, the Black spot was getting smaller and the battery icon started to appear...
I kept monitoring, and guess what! Now after a full week, the WHOLE Black SPOT Disappeared
i am really surprised, so i liked to share this info with you ...
Note: i am using a screen protector, maybe thats why it didn't break yet hopefully never...

Same here, but mine isn't fully recovered, still has a very little "black pointing", but is almost unnoticeably.
I would go as far to suggest that the screen itself wasn't damaged, per se, but bits were pushed together and over time they have settled back to their correct positions.

Its normal. I threw mine out of an aeroplane into the sea. 3 weeks later I found it on my doorstep, dripping wet but otherwise working fine. (I can only assume it used my Tomtom home location to find its way back).
I obviously needed to dry it out so I threw it into a blast furnace for a few days, but it was too hot to put to my ear when it rung, so it went into a vat of liquid nitrogen to cool down.
Still working great

i have HTC HD2 and its new device , i set down on the device then i notice a black point comes on the device screen , when i visit the HTC Delare , he told me that i have to change the screen ,

Happy to report that HTC is also self-repairing on the Sensation XE.
I Dropped it 2 days ago I thought it was the end of it. everything was a bit loose, the parts of the back cover went out of place (put them back in)
anyway, screen damage was noticeable, black dead pixels were scattered around the top right corner, and in the edge (where the battery and the clock) was heavily damaged and was acting like an old lcd screens, in a way that when I touched it the fluid went from one place to the other. seemed like a permanent damage.
Half a day later I Could almost tell the time, black spots were still over the larger area.
today, i'ts almost fully recovred, almost all of the black pixels are once again alive, and It's only a tiny piece of the top side of the status bar that has no display (~2 pixel high and 10pixel wide).
I dropped it 2 times a day Screen still perfekt but USB is brocken
Dropped the Slide in the garbage disposal (yeah), pulled it out, was still on, pulled the battery within 30 seconds.
Dried it out the best I could for about 30mins. I know I shouldnt have but I turned it on, it got to my CM6 lockscreen and froze, after another restart it would not get past the logo.
Fastboot worked but said touchpanel : fail, instead of Touchpanel : Synaptics "XXXX".
So I did complete dissasembly and the board and the panel is in a box of rice.
I will update as I go along for those who may be curious about the effects of a dunk on this device.
OK. First off, that sucks. I have been there a few times myself, and it was worse. One in the toilet, one in the dish water, and one in the swimming pool (deep end). Second, you need to take it completely apart (look for an assembly manual on XDA), use 90% rubbing alcohol to clean the boards without getting any under anything you cant get it out from (this will remove contaminates), and leave out for 24 hours before re-assembly. It sounds simple, but take a lot of attention to detail. I have done this for people about 40 or 50 times (ex-T-Mo employee with a heart), and only lost about 10 of them. If you're up for it shoot me a PM and I will help you as best I can.
I am a repair technician by trade so the assembly was the least of my concerns. I noticed the inside did not get wet very much at all, I think the touchpanel connector got a drop in it, i made sure it was clean and i used a razor to skim a fresh metal surface for all the contact points on the phone. The phone is 100% functional as of right now.
It was quite a scary moment when the panel tested as fail, and the ROM seemed to be MIA.
Wow, only 30 min. I accidentally took my phone into a lake with me one and was swimming around for about 5 min before i remembered it was on me lol. It had alread powered itself off. I gave it 2 days to dry before powering on. A little excessive but at least it was a little longer than 30 min 0_o so lucky nothing fried. Glad your slide is still working

i dropped mine in a puddle. immediately tore it apart and placed it in bags of rice. it worked after a day of being in rice. didnt need to do anything else other than that. i did notice some sms and call issues after that but rooting it resolved the issue so i doubt it was a hardware issue

never dropped a phone in water myself, my g1 hit a puddle once(not deep at all) but i still tore the thing apart and got the battery out before anything bad could happen. i try to help out my custs as much as possible, but so many of them just leave it on and don't think anything is wrong until it stops working a few days later.
the best thing to do is what was mentioned with the alcohol, my uncle dropped his phone in the lake and he turned it on a few times and i was still able to get the thing up and running within a day for him.

I'd like to start off by apologizing that my first post is a question - as the welcome message so nicely encouraged helpful posts I promise I do have skills (not related to my question though, only software) & in future, when I have time, will hopefully manage to post something helpful. You can have a good lol at the stupid situation I've gotten myself into though.
I've looked over the internet for days but can't seem to find anyone in the exact same situation as myself... In a way I am extremely lucky but kinda not because now I've been left with a dilemma.
I have a Galaxy S5 and lo & behold it fell off the arm of the chair into a bucket of water (sadly not just any water but containing thoroughly diluted Fairy washing up liquid) which I was using to clean the floor an hour earlier. (Bucket placement fail. Rest assured I now always remove the bucket to the bathroom straight after cleaning.) It was submerged for ~2 seconds, was turned on at the time and when removed it was in the process of shutting itself down. Stupidly, my first instinct was to turn it back on (I know it's actually irrelevant but I was pretty uneducated on water damage before this happened so I thought if it came back on it was a good sign.) It began booting up normally but my second instinct was arguably more intelligent and I turned it back off again.
I went off to dissassemble it & just as I was thinking about how lucky it was that the S5 was water resistant I suddenly noticed a gap where the battery cover had come away (probably from the impact of hitting the bottom of the bucket - it fell bottom first and it was very shallow - still deeper than a phone.) That sucked. On removing it it was painfully obvious that water had got into it - everywhere - the water indicator behind the battery is so red it's half fallen off. So at this point I just consigned myself to claiming on my insurance (it is covered for this situation thankfully but there's an excess) and left it in pieces for a few minutes. I really stupidly turned it on again - just to check (please don't tell me off, I totally admit at this point I hadn't read on google this was a bad thing to do) - and the display did not work at this point, it constantly vibrated until I removed the battery again but I was erroneously relieved that it had powered on.
Remembering I had an emergency wet electronics pack - a rich name for a plastic bag with 2 big packets of silica gel in it - I thought I might as well try it (although I really did think there was no hope at this point.) I left it - and the battery - in the packet overnight and tried again in the morning - still no display (vibrating had stopped =)) I returned it to the emergency packet where I pretty much forgot about it for 3-4 days booting up my old S3 mini to use in the meantime. (Pay as you go so I still couldn't ring the 25p a minute insurance line.)
I was just about to pop to a relatives to use the house phone to make my claim when I thought I'd give it the S5 one last shot, not expecting anything, I pressed the power button & realised it wouldn't power on at all, so I wiped it with alcohol (having finally googled my problem... the cleaning kind, not the drinking kind), dried that off, plugged it in and lo & behold - again - it appears to work perfectly. This, ironically, is the crux of the problem.
I've read the insurance T& Cs over and over and whilst it covers water damage it says, in a totally unrelated section, that it doesn't cover damage that does not prevent the normal functioning of the device.
So I started googling some more. I read that water damaged devices may have some problems (namedly with the screen, audio or signal) yet I have none of these. I am ridiculously paranoid that every bit of lag is water damage but then again I have a lot of apps installed *naughty* so it's probably not... and tbh it does perform pretty well (my nonwater damaged laptop is lagging as I type & the S3 mini performs worse.) I also read that water-damaged devices frequently appear to work then give up the ghost within a few days of drowning - this also didn't happen. Aside from the indicator being red (and possibly soap residue inside knowing my luck) it's working. So, because of the fairly large excess I haven't reported it yet (there is no time limit on when you report the damage on my cover, I assume this is because most people want their phone replaced sooner rather than later.).
Soooo... phone is still working what I think is fine. Battery life sucks but tbf I think that's the case with all the droids I've had, if it did actually become a problem it's likely fixably by replacing the battery anyway. What I want to know is do I ring the insurance people anyway? There's no T & Cs regarding time of accident or when it breaks la de da but the clause that's worrying me is that the phone has to not be functioning normally. I don't want them saying "you can't have a new phone because it still works" and then snidily cancelling my insurance the next day because they know there is a heightenend future risk of breakdown. Or is water damage so bad that they will replace it anyway regardless of whether it's showing any signs of damage yet? I just want to know what the typical approach to that is.
I'd also like to know, based on the high-level of detail I've provided on what occured post-plunge - what are the odds & likely timescales of future breakdown? Is most the damage likely to have been done by now or is it still likely to turn into a brick at any second? If problems emerge are they likely to appear gradually or suddenly? It has been 4 weeks since the incident. I think I can safely rely on it day to day at this point but do you think it could last another 4 weeks? 4 months?
I guess I could dunk it again just to be sure it breaks :angel: but that seems like such a waste, both of the phone & the excess money... and not to mention stupid if there were any problems with the claims process or the new phone...

TL;DR = Dunked S5 in water, waterproof cover failed on impact, did turn it back on whilst wet *idiot*, left it in emergency wet electronics pack for 3-4 days, works perfectly, insured for water damage but there's a clause that says damage that doesn't affect the normal functioning isn't covered - I'm guessing their talking about minor cracks here but does it apply to me? . What the hell do I do?? Should I break it properly and claim because the future risk of problems is so great, do I just wait it out and claim only if problems happen, will I get a replacement if i ring the insurance or will they refuse to replace it cos it still works and threaten my future cover.

I wanted to mention something quickly to perhaps save others heartbreak.
I run and use the eleptical for extended periods of time. Mind you, My pockets are not wet but perhaps damp After an hour or more. I took my phone out and made sure I was not drowning. To my surprise the phone was dry except a small amount of moisture near the rear finger sensor.
It seemed nothing of concern. After exercising was completed, the fingerprint sensor was non responsive and intermittent. I got home, looked at the device, it was acting erratic. Screen was turning on and off as if someone was pressing the sensor 50 times a second, battery got very hot (not note 7 hot).
I could no longer power down phone, pulled battery. When battery was inserted phone booted but back button was no use, can't power down, turn off screen.
I read somewhere, don't quote me. Exercise creates a barrier of 2 inches of 80% moisture barrier when doing hard cardio.
Too lazy to find article, not good at story time.
Fix: 5.00 waterproof pouch with lanyard.

I'll thank that to my attention as someone who lives in an extremely humid area in terms of, my sweat never dries unless i wipe it on a different object, and since the sweat wouldn't evaporate, it will build up and can reach situations where it's dropping off my forehead when i stare down the ground, so my clothes could get extremely wet when I sweat, never thought about it harming the phone, preheps since I don't really exercise.
But sure as hell gonna keep that in mind when it comes to heavy duty!

I just had something similar happen with my LG G5.
I got hot & sweaty picking berries, with phone tucked in my bra. The phone seemed fine at the time, but within an hour of finishing, the phone stopped working. The water damage indicator is fine, as if no water damage. But unable to use the screen or back power button.
Is the phone just trash now?
It's been 3 hours of letting it sit with the battery removed, and still no improvement.

I have the dreaded S7 that only has the Eng boot image to root it. G930p. I change the wallpaper put it on the charger because the battery was quite low, and came back a few minutes later to a black screen or a completely off screen, but all on-screen touchdowns work, touches work because I can open the lock screen with swiping, and on-screen buttons work because I can turn it off. Also all the LED lights work. Yet I still can't see anything on the screen and I've tried touching all over to see if the brightness may have been turned all the way down. I have read online that when the battery gets too low the screen dims to a certain level until the battery dies or the phone is plugged in. In some cases at the battery is too low the phone fails to wake up when it's plugged in and the screen goes out. Now here's the problem I can't figure out when the phone is in download mode therefore after flashing firmware I can't go through the proper steps of factory resetting the device because I can't see the screen. Now there may be a couple of reasons why this happened one being having used in Xposed module to remove some status bar icons. Now I didn't have issues with the same exact phone on Android 7 with the Xposed module blocking status bar icons so I use the same module for this device which is now on Oreo. However I am used to seeing the screen stay on and a warning pop-up saying the system user interface has crashed and usually that warning presents itself over and over until the status bar icon is replaced. Now I did have to go about a different way of doing this on Oreo. Since turning off data doesn't actually make the data indicator disappear I turned on airplane mode to get rid of it and then made the airplane mode icon disappear because that Xposed module will not make the data icon disappear. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get this device back I just want someone to tell me the screen is not dead and it's still able to be brought back that would make me happier at this moment.
Hey, i hzve an s7 edge myself i spent the extrra doe and got the one with dual sims and 128gb motherboard as well. It's been my bae ever since. its been tied to me everywhere i go. 3 or four jobs the lake, hiking, skiing, the shower while it was all original She's fell out of my pocket into the toilet while i was bent over cleaning. Don't get me started how many times ive dumped it out of my lap getting out of the car or bed. what im getting at is im not the type of guy to buy a lambo and leave it at home while i take everybodies pink slips with the camero. I bought the one i wanted and i use the **** out of it because i love it. Ill try to shorten this up a bit here. I had my girlfriend cussing me like a moron when i bricked it 10 minutes in to its 1st full charge. But I straightened it out that morning and then i took the plastic off and slapped it in an $80 case because i used to own a umi super and the screen on that thing would break if you laid you hand on it too hard while you were driving and since this phone cost like $400 more i was bound and determined to not break it like the umi. (That phone puts anything ive ever play edwith to shame when it comes to performance but still to this day theres not one case that covers the screen that fits that phone).With the curved screen and that price tag There was no other way to go at the time i know where to get a case to get the job done for much less now but ...Any ways what i first started having problems with was battery life turned charging port problems. Basically kept a clean rom and fresh apps to for the longest time just to keep the damn thing on for a couple of hours at work when. It never lasted more that 4 hours even when it was brand new but if i kept the screen off i could just make it through rush and still have some sort of music or movie the whole time. Eventually it ended up strapped to a power bank because maybe its just me but 3 or 4 hours isnt **** for a phone battery . i mean who buys a mini tv that only plays the shows you like and its backwards compatible all psxsegatendo 1 and 2 games and turns the screen off. battery life to me is how long it will last on high full blast and a little flash light just in case. every thing I read about this thing raved about its all day 2 with the screen off battery life. Talk about everyone being liars my umi had a little bit bigger battery by the specs but it would last like 4 days if it was half dead and i realized i was gonna be in the woods for a while. what i'm getting at is eventually no matter if i kept my storage and apps clean or not the it was gonna be dead real quick if i didnt have it plugged in. No problem i just settled into carring my phone around on a power bank the size of a brick. Talk about rocking it old school. I might as well have been walking around the appartments with the house phone and the dock. Around here if you get your phone fixed you do it yourself or you can just plan on them breaking the damn thing or bugging it or losing it out of spite and after i did the screen on my umi a couple of times i was not looking forward to doing my edges. I wasnt sure it was in my skill set. I'll have you know when my charging cables started going bad so often that i was staked out trying just daring a ***** to get close to my phone you know drawing down on servers at waffle house because i would go take a piss and somebody broke the wire i just bought at the store across the street oh hell no. Somebody was gonna die either some random waitresses or that f**king wire knome that gets me every time slip up and zone out or it was gonna be my phone. so researched a little bit and made a few calls and ihad a tuperware container with $600 worth of screws and stickers. I say it again i have you know when i finally had to replace the battery my phone was in mint condition there wasnt a scratch on it. Except the little bit of paint around the inside of the charge port. And i try not to drop my phone and i put it down if i need to use both hands but it was mint condition after it came back from hell the second or third time before. Turns out when i changed the battery i was back to getting a reasonable 4 hours of screen on time but it didn't take long for me to realize it wasnt a tweeked out waho and it wasnt knomes and it wasnt my power bank ****ting out on the quickcharge port ... I just needed a new charge port.heres where we come back around to your question. I bought one and while i was waiting on it it dawned on me that all i really did was pop the back off i might wanna see how hard it was gonna be to change the charge port. So about the time the package came i finally found a video with somebody that actually doing a good step by step tutorial on changing the charge port. Then needless to say i see why i couldnt find video where somebody only changed the charge port. The only way to do it with out doing super micro soldering is to replace the screen because you have to actually dismantle the screen to get the capacitive buttons out. This is because the are actually on a pcb with the homebutton and then wrapped around the frame then the screen is glued down. the only people i saw get the screen loose from tje glass and frame from whatr i could tell where just lucky and happened to have the camera going when they rolled the dice and either tried to hit that 3 degree sweet spot inbetween burning the leds and the glue not melting.. Or they didnt give a **** about this $600 burner phone because they have a whole room full of them for parts in their daddys dust free glass lab that has has every niche piece of tech for doing the job minus the actual machine at samsung. Oh and dont forget the fat mexican kid that stole a bottle of the adhesive remover made for it god knows who he knows that works there but i have to put him in there even though he didnt risk anything because the internet won't tell you what adhesive they use so good luck figuring it out i tried like 15 different chemicals and hes not gonna tell you either and he made sure to put it in a different bottle so you cant tell from the video. you might keep on being positive and think well i saw new screen s for like 30 dollars 10 if its used but let me tell you they used to be 50 with everything you need to do it fairly easily . Those $10 $15 are at leaste 30 now and they dont come already fastened to a frame and most dont even have the glass that goes over it. All this is assuming that you still have a mint condition untouched screen thats still ok. If you actually need the screen its no skin of your back now that i told you what you are getting into most straightend you out so theres not much trial and error where you spent 50 80 on parts you cant use before you just go ahead and breakdown and buy the whole thing even though the pieces are less than half cost because most people dont have the equipment and know how to properly use them and get the job done right. Now once you sit with this price tag for a while and decide if you guys can get along with each other after that much money comes up missing. It's a piece of cake to change basically the hardest thing is getting some of the cables to actually snap back onto the different pieces. the rest might take you 30 minutes or an hour but its really kindercarden low level difficulty you just have to have a blow drier or hopefully a heat gun. so here it is the original samsung screen is the only one, out of the 4 screens that i got my hands on, that the touch digitizer or whatever still works after the screen is out. The rest must have had the electronics tied together because they would work with just crack but if the screen goes out all the way none of the screens i had were resposive to touch. so try and get that thing re flashed to stock and see if that helps. i doubt it but ive seen it before . Now its been a year since i bought a screen so they may have doubled by now but last time i bought one I got one of what is understood to be one of the better ones actually put together in a factory with the gold foil caps where the different screws go and it wasnt pulled off a parts phone. and the cheapest if could find was $100 and tax and shipping it WAS like 120 american keep in mind 2 or 3 months before that i bought the same thing for $50 to the door frame and all. if i had to do it again i would definatley buy a used original if i could find one with no burn marks. There were hot boys in china selling the **** out of some screens off phones they stole and parted out like a chop shop would do a car. but i couldnt see past the used part the first time i replaced my screen especially since if every thing was as it should be in the world i wouldnt be taking a perfect screen and throwing it in the trash because nobody at any of these 20 something electronic repair places in my town has the nuts to take a soldering gun to my phone an replaceing the port its self. Oh and one more thing dollar for dollar they wanted exactly the same amount of money at the shop to replace the screen if you don't think you can do it they said 120 for an s7 edge. but the piece of mind was well worth doing it yourself once you get into it and see how easily it can be done.
