As the title suggests, I'm trying to use alexa on the Fire HD 8 6th Gen, but even with parental controls disabled and the latest firmware, it still won't activate. Can anybody tell me why this is happening, and hopefully a fix?
hope u found the answer ... mine is **** too ...
Quick question are you holding down the circle activate her?
Reason I ask is i didn't realize she only worked that way.
Also she doesn't work on my hd 8 with the play store loaded in. Works fine in the unmodified 7 though

Hey guys, I purchased some free tv shows from the Play Store and wanted to try them out, but i only get audio and a black screen, no video. Any idea what it could be? I'm on Paranoid Android 3.10, M-Kernel. Even my old Transformers movie in the Movie App isnt showing anymore.
Edit: It works on my Galaxy Note. Weird that it wouldnt work on my Nexus 7.

Possibly related, possibly not - the Play Store stopped recognising my device as a Nexus 7 yesterday. I was on Stock rooted, with M-Kernel, the TabletUI patch, and an icons patch.
When I opened the Play Store yesterday (it all worked fine before) I got a T&C pop-up that I accepted, and then It didn't think I had an N7. I restored a backup I made that only had Rooted & M-Kernel but the problem persisted. I booted up the device this morning and all was back to normal. Got another T&C pop-up and everything worked again.
Not sure of the cause
Have you guys rooted the device?

I have, a while back, but this is the first time I noticed something now working. I assumed it was to do with me messing with the DPI (to give it the Table UI) but the issue persisted when I rolled back to a previous backup in TWRP. It was all okay this morning though.

Yes, I'm rooted.

+1 to this just happened to me today' has worked before, can't seem to get it working again, using paranoid 3.1 (self built from sources and no other problems in the least). Going to keep trying, but very weird the audio plays without video. Thought maybe it would be a DRM issue, but that would throw an error code on screen and refuse to do anything (have had that happen before). I wonder if maybe the 4.2.2 sources need more work (like the Bluetooth not working at all without a patch. If you have newest OTA you would not be issuing same android version Google is holding it back only allowing beta testers to use it (custom ROMs do use it like paranoid).
Hello,
I had my Fire HD 10 wired up with bluetooth keyboard (the ones that come with a tablet case). When I hit Caps Lock, I can type in uppercase just fine, however, when I hit Caps Lock again, the whole keyboard stops working (and tablet does not switch to virtual keyboard).
I had to reconnect by turning off and turning back on bluetooth in order to get keyboard work again. (Note: I tested holding shift key to switch between uppercase and lowercase. Works perfectly fine!)
In the beginning I suspected it was the hardware issue, so I wired up keyboard with my laptop. It works perfectly fine. So now I kinda rule out the hardware issue and suspect it's the FireOS.
Here are details about my hardware/software/settings:
Brand new Fire HD 10 (2017) and brand new keyboard+case I got from Amazon (U.S.)
I got it and updated it to 5.6.0.0 right away before wiring it up with keyboard
I did not mess with any system or keyboard settings (I live in the US so I assume the default setting is U.S. keyboard)
I did not root the device or tried to install third party Apps
After I encountered this issue, I reset my tablet back to factory settings (FireOS is still 5.6.0.0)
I could not find related issues online, I am wondering if anyone has the same issue and hopefully find a solution or workaround (like disable Caps Lock key input somehow)
(Just want to clarify: I am new to FIreOS so not sure if certain version of FireOS or Android supports Caps Locks key on keyboard)
Thanks!

I got message from the vendor: "After extensive testing, we have found that the issue is not present with the same keyboards on other generations of the Fire tablets. We were able to test on version 5.5 as well as 5.6 and found that both OS versions are affected. We have also found that other manufacturer's Bluetooth keyboards all have the same issue..."
Hopefully the next FireOS update will fix it.
I have the same problem. Very annoyed. Amazon hung up on me when I called about it. ****ty tablet.
I am facing the same issue with the CAP LOCK freezing up when it is pressed twice and this only affects Amazon Fire HD 10 5.6.0.0. Is there a fix for the problem? Please this problem affect all bluetooth keyboard paired with the new 2017 version, everyone need to get Amazon knows about it and fix it.
I have same problem.(FIREHD10 7th Gen. OS 5.6.0.1) I use Logitech K380 Keyboard. When I press Caps Lock key twice, all connections are lost including Bluetooth and WIFI. Soon WIFI reconnected but Bluetooth keyboard is not paried. So I shoud pair it again. I really want it fixed ASAP.
So I recently bought a google home mini , linked it with my shield . I Was able to use voice commands to launch Netflix on my sheld tv. But for some reason , it's stopped working. Now all I get I " Cant play Netflix on Android TV" .
How many others are experiencing this issues?
Thanks
Never worked for me. I read a short while back that Google had/was fixing Netflix for Android TV through Assistant, but I'll keep holding my breath for a while longer......

Yeah I saw that article on Android police posted in October.
It's very frustrating, mostly because I worked for a few days than it just stopped .
Ridiculous that google products can't work properly with one another [emoji1]

Yeah, well. TBH I'm surprised it somehow worked for you at all. I got the "I can't cast to Android TV yet" message from the beginning.
That was the only reason I was hoping for the Shield wall outlet plugin they had announced. That should have prevented these issues and worked directly for all the shield items. But then the Android Mini was released, which made it (mostly) useless (well except for people like us who would actually like full compatibility).

Here in the US I don't have any problem. Kids use it more than anyone else in the house.
"Hey Google, play ninjago on Netflix on Shield"
"Hey Google, play transformers on Netflix on Patio" (Chromecast)
TV turns on (CEC), show starts playing...
And the final one:
"Ok google, turn off shield"..."Ok, turning the Shield Off". Everything turns off.

Yeah. First one gives me the "I cannot play to android tv yet"
Second one works fine (to my Chromecast in Bedroom). also can turn the Bedroom tv on through CEC.
Last one I don't use that way, since I use a Harmony, but I can turn everything (shield, amp and tv) off by giving the correct Harmony command and it turns everything off (or changes profiles if I want to change from Shield to Playstation, or watching TV).
So basically everything works except casting the Netflix to Shield, which they promised would start working and seeing that it works for you, I would think it shouldn't take that long anymore (I think I even have language set to English, US, but I'll check if it's not set to UK which if that's the case could be an issue).
I was wondering if there is a way to use the camera on my Fire HD 10 with Alexa show mode. I am mainly thinking along the lines of having the camera available for drop in calls to my other Alexa devices and possibly to use as a security camera. I just got off the phone with Amazon and they said no one has asked them this question before and that the feature is not available. They said they would pass along the idea to their developers for possible use in a future update. So, I am just wondering if anyone else has thought of this and if there may be a work around for now. Thanks in advance.
I have spent an insane number of hours trying to figure this out with no luck, please help me.
My mom has a Fire 7 tablet, 9th generation with Google Play installed. I got her a Fire 10, 9th generation tablet. I cannot figure out how to back up her game data and install it on the Fire 10.
I've tried Helium with no success. I tried a few other things as well. The Helium backup seemed to work, except that when the game was started, I was on level 1 instead of 12. So it appeared to work, but didn't.
This was supposed to be a birthday present a month ago, but obviously I couldn't give it to her like this. Then it was supposed to be a Christmas present, but again, I couldn't really give it to her.
Maybe try setting the google account to back up application data?
I had the same problem trying to transfer a game to a new phone. I was on level 850 and didn't want to start over again. I tried several different approaches that didn't work so finally contacted the game's manufacturer. They sent me a link with instructions and it worked like magic. Perhaps that would work for you as well. Sometimes simple is better.
