[Q] [q] Camera failed i9500 - revisited (help)

May I have your attention please.
Greeting to all who may be concerned or able to fix camera failed issue on Samsung Galaxy S4 i9500 !!!
I know that there are other threads with similar topic, but I think we should recindle this issue as serious problem.
The story goes:
I bought slightly used S4 i9500 phone with no guarantee. It worked fine, was taking pictures and all. Splendid.
It was on some stock firmware. Some german version I think.
Then crappy and useles bloatware began to bother me. Just mountains of really crappy and uselles meaningless bloatware.
I wanted to remove that horses*it apps and therefore I rooted the phone flashing adam kernel and cofface cwm.
One lovely day i tried to take photo, camera opened with black window and showed camera failed notification with persistancy.
i flashed some newer stock firmware, it opened and was taking pictures till i tried some camera modes (action or something) and it froze with pink screen.
After that event, nothing was helpfull to fix this problem.
1. I flashed countles stock roms, nearly all available custom roms, new and old (think over 20 flashes).
2. Prior to flashing I did: Wiping dalvik, system, data, cache, preload, or full wipe, hard resets, wiping sdcard and external card.
3. Tried also nand erase (it took some time to revive phone afterwards).
4. Tried solutions like clear camera cache and data.
5. Tried turning off phone, taking battery out for some time, with full recharge,
6. Tried non stock camera apps. (e.g. camera fx, camera mx..)
7. Tried removing camera app by deleting it with titanium backup, or with root exploer - then installing it back to system apps with root explorer.
8. Tried switching sd cards- 8gb, 16, 32, 64 gb, no card, and tried settings without saving pics to sd card but internal storage.
9. Tried turning off gps, and location services
10. Tried limiting processes to 4 only.
11. Tried flashing with odin, or via cwm cofface or philz.
12. I opened phone with screwdriver to check for posible visible faults or something - all ok.
13. Flashed official firmware claimed to solve camera problems.
Maybe something more i did?- i cant remember, if i do i will notify about it.
And I ordered camera module from internet, will try to replace it - we will se what happens.
In the meantime, if someone, some wise one, genious or ordinary person, knows how to fix this persisting problem PLEASE HELP!
You will help me, and help others that have this problem.
Samsung officials, if you somehow should read this, take this into consideration. There are many eyes upon you. Provide solution for this.
Any one - SOS
FIXED IT.
Since no one cared enough to even try to help me with this problem I will not post the solution !

Likewise, some people may have missed your post or nothing good to add, still I too would like to know what finally worked as I tried most of what you did.

If you have message "Camera failed"...
First of all try this: Open Camera app from the "Application manager" and do "Clear data", then restart the phone.
Second: Do a Factory reset (of course save your data!).
Third: Reinstall Android OS.
If this not help you, you have a hardware problem. You need to change the camera.

[Q] HELP: my GT-I9505 is randomly turning off and on again

Hallo all! I really HOPE someone might help me with a really annoying issue:
I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 Black-Edition (Modelnumber: GT-I9505). From day one I rooted the phone
(CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.tar.md5)
but still use the samsung stock Rom. My Android version is 4.4.2 and I had the genuine firmware-version I9505XXUGNF1 from the Samsung homepage (sammobile).
.. Everything has been working perfectly for about a month, but then suddendly my phone startet to turn off and on again randomly by itself. Note that the turning on is much quicker then the regular booting-up (after I properly shut the system down) and that the autonomious turning on does not require the PIN-code.
I tried to fix this problem by:
- removing the external Memory-Card,
- removing the sim-card,
- deinstalling busybox,
- completly whiping the system (via TeamWin recovery) and installing EVERYTHING from scrach (no Backup-restoring) --> tried this four times!,
- installing the latest firmware-version I9505XXUGNG2,
- changing the battery,
- COMPLETLY canging the device: (installing EVERYTHING from scrach (no Backup-restoring) on a completly new device (new Galaxy S4 Black-Edition)) --> same problem!
--> NOTHING WORKED OUT!!!! So I'm REALLY annoyed about that!
Note, that after a complete restoring of the system, the phone works perfectly for some days - maybe 4-3 - and then the turning-off-and-on terror returns.
I put a screenshot of my battery-trajectory as an attachment. You can see two vertical lines indicating that the phone has turned itself off for a short ammount of time.
Does anyone have an idea what could be the cause for that issue? Is there anyone sharing the same problem? What could I try to solve that problem? Is there mayby a taskmanager-app logging systemerrors, so I could check, what happened before the turning off?
I'm VERY thankful for any sort of help!

Hi Mate,
Not saying this is your problem but i seen some people having issues with the power button , symptoms are similar to your random reboots like in constant reset....check the power button see if is stock and easy way to check is try to go to recovery without pressing the power button.....if is really stuck or short out you should be able to go to recovery without ( for a short time) ....that will prove that the problem is coming from there...
Of course if is very sporadic wait until is happening for testing ..
I had the same problem before because I disabled knox using supersu. What I did was delete all knox related apps and everything is good.
Many users had this problems with Knox as well. Try to uninstall everything relating to Knox, maybe it will work

I have the same issue at the moment - Phone is completely standard (Not rooted). All has been good until the morning of the 30th August when there was a new firmware update applied. I had already had the Kit Kat update earlier in August and the phone had been working with no issue, since this 220Mb odd 'patch' the phone will just randomly reboot, I say random but it just seems after it has been idle (Screen off) for a while on unlocking I can start an app (pretty much anything) and about 5 seconds later the phone will reboot. As the OP mentioned it is a faster than normal reboot and it doesn't play the normal start up sound either.
I am not sure what the update did, it mentioned ironically that it was fixing stability issues!!! - Is there a way without rooting the phone to roll back the firmware to before the patch?
Cheers.
Factory reset worked too
I have been struggling with a similar problem on my GT-I9505 since receiving a system update on May 30, 2014 -- random reboots many times a day, plus fairly reliable reboots about 30-40 seconds into any received phone call. I tried cleaning caches, uninstalling recently installed apps and then other unneeded apps, installing new updates, and lots of other things. My last resort was rooting and removing Knox as suggested here. But first I tried a factory reset, and it worked! I've now gone several days without an unintentional reboot. It's a pain to have to restore backups and reinstall apps, but it was worth it. I hope this information is helpful to someone.
Issues on my CF auto-rooted GT i9505
My firmware is the stock I9505XXUGNG8-DBT and rooted with CF Auto-root.and Phill''s CWM.
1. When I wake up my phone by pushing the home button my first screen is frozen until I push the home button again for 2 or 3 seconds. Only since then I can use my apps.
2. By incomming phone calls my phone reboots and I lose contact, so they have to call me again, Then everything is well.
3.The time on my homescreen doesn''t synchronize until I push the home button for the second time waking up the phone .
I already used SSCF Xposed. That didn''t help.
Somebody the same issues. Or somebody who got some tips for me.

I guess this will help. Knox often causes this issues. Just uninstall everything relating to Knox with Titanium Backup

I'm having the same problem as OP.
I've frozen all Knox related apps in Titanium Backup, but the problem persists. Do I need to fully delete the apps do you think? Is there a difference?

I think I solved my problem: I deleted all Knox related items and when I rebooted my phone again it stucks on the Samsung logo. I installed the stock I9505XXUGNG8-DBT again with Odin. Installed CF Auto-root.and Phill''s CWM again. Installed Supersu again.
Now everything is working again without the frozen screen, time synchronizes and no booting by incoming phone call anymore.

[Q] Both cameras not working

Bought an S4 last week. Everything looked good, I tested the sound, vibrate, gps etc and it all checked out. However, stupid me didn't check the camera (I know I know).
So the whole phone seems to run fine, but the camera (front and back) can't be accessed by stock or 3rd party applications. (Usually "warning Camera Failed" or something similar). I've factory reset, cleared cache and everything. I even installed the nandroid backup from a working phone, but the camera gives the same issue.
Because it's both cameras I thought it had to be software, but after all the resets and cache clears I'm starting to lean toward hardware.
Can someone give me an idea where to start? Would it be camera connectors or motherboard? Is there a sensor that may be causing this? I'd like to get an idea before I start gutting my phone.
Thanks.
Try this if it works for you?

If this does not help, clear RAM with a ram cleaner and try starting the app again?
If that does not help either..flash stock rom via oding
If that does not help..turn the phone off..charge till 100%..turn the phone on..clear the ram..and start camera..
Sent from my GT-I9500 using XDA Free mobile app
Had this same issue a while back. What solved it for me was to re-flash the stock firmware. I too tried a nandroid backup, it didn't work but the flash did.
Turns out it was software related.
I installed a few stock firmwares that didn't fix anything. I didn't want to wait the 2 hours to download for free from Sammobile.com, but eventually i bit the bullet and got the appropriate (latest) version of my phone. After the reboot it was solved.
Granted, I tried many different firmwares, and some had the same name as the official firmware that i downloaded from sammobile but it did the trick.
Thanks for the pointers

waiting for some help
Flash the ROM again to fix your WiFi. While the ROM may help, I believe your camera problem is a hardware issue. You'll have to replace the camera module.

ok i just updated 5.0.1 . and how to flash rom via odin?
Flashing a custom ROM won't help fix your WiFi. You need to flash a stock ROM through Odin, and there are threads in the S4 forums which explain how to flash a ROM. Please use the search engine to find it.
Same Problem...
Just noticed this problem 3-4 days ago. I've done a factory reset and also tested a known working rear camera in my phone - I still get an updating firmware message or can't connect to camera message when I open the camera app. Also, the flashlight won't work and disappears from the pull-down menu in Lollipop. I'm unrooted on an I9505G (GPE S4) running 5.0. Not having any other issues with the phone and have tried re-seating the rear camera on the pins over a dozen times. Cleared cache /data from the camera app, uninstalled upadates, etc. I'm stuck. My best guess is either the board, or software related and I haven't figured it out.
With the OP, once firmware had been ruled out as a problem, the only thing remaining would be a motherboard issue. He had already replaced his camera module.
i just want my camera to work no matter wifi work or not. i m stock lollipop
so kindly suggest me something for camera. btw today i will try to flash ro
Take your S4 in for service. If you've updated the ROM and still do not have a working camera, you have a problem with the motherboard, not the camera module.

Try removing battery for 10 seconds then put it back in, see if it works. If not, try reflashing a firmware

This error appeared randomly or you had any issues flashing? Maybe you dropped it and caused hardware damage?
If it's a software issue, refreshing to your stock rom should fix it so if you have already tried that it is probably a hardware related issue.
Well pulling out the battery trick worked for me and my two friends with the same camera problem, I suggest it to others as will, please try it before going to the extreme of flashing firmware.
thank you guys it really helped me, I found that its hardaware issue and i solved now my phone's camera working fine ,thank you. once again,,
