I am trying to connect my Nexus 4 to my Mac via Android File Transfer. I have updated to Lollipop a month ago, and Android File Transfer has stopped working as a result. The error message is "No Android device found. Please connect your Android device with a USB cable to get started."
When I connect my Nexus 4 to my Mac, I can see it is charging so doesn't seem to be a problem with the phone or cable.
I am running OSx Yosemite 10.10.1 and Android 5.0.1 on my Nexus 4.
Can anyone suggest why Android File Transfer doesn't work

Can you check if MTP is on? It is in Settings/Storage and then click the 3-Dot menu on the top right. Working fine over here..
Yes, MTP is on, PTP is not selected.
I've also made sure my screen is unlocked before plugging in the USB and then running AFT.
Similar thing just happened to me - but only when I try to read data from storage card in phone. This was AFTER we upgraded to OSX Yosemite 10.10.3. Was working perfectly fine on previous OS version. Did you do any OS updates?

BTW - the solution to this was to use PTP instead of MTP and the Mac will import images via Mac Photo application interface.
are there any news yet? i have the same problem....
i used AFT all the time, then bricked my phone, installed windows via boot camp, brought it back from the dead with LG drivers, pc suite, flash tool etc and now (back on OS X Yosemite) AFT doesn´t find my device anymore.
PTP mode does work and ADB also does find my phone as regular device and on top of that,
our 2nd macbook (also running Yosemite) recognizes the phone instantly and launches AFT.
so it must have something to do with my macbook
maybe it got somehow infected by windows or some driver crap.....
AFT also stopped working with my LG G2 after the Lollipop update (5.0.2) on Yosemite 10.10.2.
Workaround :
1. Install android sdk on Mac (with platform-tools)
/android-sdk-macosx/platform-tools/adb
2. Connect device via MTP
3. List connected devices (terminal)
adb devices
4. Copy files from Mac to device (terminal)
adb push -p <file_path_in_mac> <directory_path_in_device>
i.e.
adb push -p /Users/user/Movies/movie.mkv /sdcard/Movies/
5. Copy files from Device to Mac (terminal)
adb pull -p <file_path_in_device> <directory_path_in_mac>
It's really annoying guys .. The device is available as adb and fastboot on wug's nexus root toolkit and i can push and pull files
i can do pretty much everything with the device (flashed latest rom - rooted - installed apk) done everything but i can't transfer or view my device on my computer or laptop
the drivers are not the problem whatsoever I deleted all of them and followed the guides, tried linux won't work too .. changed cables tons of times also won't work
changed from laptop to desktop from windows to linux won't work .. the device just won't appear on windows explorer .. =\ =\
my driver test by wug's is passed 100% .. what to do IDK -_-
Any help?

Check under Settings -> Memory -> 3 dots (USB Connection) if there is thick checked for MTP connection
Hello!
I just started having issues with my android phone and the ability to select the USB connection type (Charge, MTP, PTP, etc...)
I was getting the notification fine 10 minutes ago. But now it doesnt appear anymore....
I might have something to do with this issue.
I was trying to move files over to the phone and the file transfer froze and wasnt responding on windows PC.
I unplugged the phone and the transfer screen went away, tried to plug it in again and windows listed it as an unknown device.
Both of my windows PCs are having this problem. The USB cord still works as I have tested it on other devices. I have tried enabling USB debug mode and that didn't help.
My phone boots, all the apps seem to be working fine.
I have a samsung 64 gb micro sd inserted into the phone and it it formatted for marshmallow. (currently using this ROM: [ROM][Lux][XT1563/2] ֍ Marshmallux ֍ Stock based rom 6.0 [MPD24.65-18])
Couldnt find another post about this issue so Any help would be super.
So i figured out its something to do with windows 10.
I plugged my phone into a windows 7 pc i have and it worked as it did before.
solved
A simple restart did the trick.
Wasn't sure why this would help since i was having the issue on two windows 10 devices.
This seems like a really small problem so moderators can choose to delete this if the post is redundant.
I'm having an issue with file transfer where my computer can't 'see' the phone when an AOSP ROM is installed.
File transfer is fine when mounting in recovery, also when I have OOS installed, so it isn't a hardware problem.
I've gone through the forum searching for a solution, and I have:
Changed the default USB configuration (under Developer options) to MTP
Uninstalled the phone from Device Manager on my computer
Tried installing OnePlus drivers to my computer
Tried installing Qualcomm drivers to my computer
Can anyone suggest a solution? I'm desperate to get this sorted as I can't tolerate OOS any longer, I just want a cleanish build of Android with no OnePlus rubbish in it!
I join your quest man... Im looking for the solution for this problem since i have installed my first AOSP rom on OP5... Never find the solution, i'm curious for this too... Now im on PureFusion and MTP of course isnt working... so i use recovery for file transfer (which is annoying) or the WiFi server (which is slow and isnt "operations" friendly)
In the same time cant understand why my nexus 6p with PureNexus is fully working in MTP but the oneplus 5 nope

That's interesting. I'm transferring like 80% of my files trough MTP and it is and always was working fine, but I'm using Linux, so that might help you guys to solve it

I know it's windows fault because when it have too many drivers to manage for the same thing it goes crazy.. but even removing every single driver (ADB and Android related) it doesn't work.. I'm looking in a solution on the Linux build called "forget windows use Linux" since I can't completely remove windows 10
I had same issue in Linux
Typically, issue is not the ROM
1) check the phone get set to "file transfer" when connected, you generally have option to chose
2) plugging to a usb in chain to other switches it was not work, connected directly to a usb MB port, worked.
Hello,
I have a oneplus2 - Lineage OS 15.1 Stable (Unofficial) . For the last several months I've noticed that my phone isn't detected AT ALL in any of th multiple modes I have tried. Listing a here :
Note that the phone charges fine.
This is also not about mounting, file storage access MTP/PTP modes etc
On Ubuntu Linux :
1. Does not show up at all on firing the lsusb command. (Nothing in the device listing)
2. No devices shown on the adb devices command.
3. Needless to say device is not detected in any file transfer modes
On Windows
Does not show up as unknown device etc in devices
In Lineage under Connected Devices the USB option shows as disabled. See screenshot.
USB debugging is on
USB modes have been set to MTP/PTP
The weird thing is that if I connect a OTG cable to the phone , and run lsusb on the terminal on the phone, 2 devices show up.
However if I connect the OTG to any device like a USB drive or a PC, it does not get detected on the phone terminal lsusb command as an additional device nor does it show up for mounting in TWRP or ES explorer on the phone.
So now the question is is my USB port fried ? If so how come the OTG gets detected on the phone ?
What's the best way to determine if it is a hardware issue ? If so where with the port or on the motherboard ? And before I shifted to this OS around from Lineage OS 14.1 I had taken USB based backups .. and I doubt this is a OS issue since it's also not detected in TWRP .
Any help would be appreciated !

Disable secure boot on your PC. Though if you have Linux I'm assuming it's already disabled but sometimes secure boot can cause certain hardware to not be detected. It should be in your UEFI settings or you can try booting a Linux live cd in legacy bios mode and see if it works
Reason for this answer: oneplus driver for op2 is outdated and oneplus never invested the money to properly sign it so certain UEFI firmwares might reject the connection
Try a different PC, I'm assuming you tried a different usb cable already. The oneplus cable in the box can go bad over time
Yes secure boot is disabled. In fact tried it also on an old Linux desktop that doesn't have secure boot ..and yes tried multiple cables that are working for other phones..
