[OFFICIAL] Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 - Yotaphone 2 - YotaPhone

The stable Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 - firmware 1.1.47 update is officially being released Over-The-Air (OTA) starting from 29 March 2017 in the afternoon, here is the announce on the YotaPhone VK page.
Moreover, the main improvements are listed in this official 4pda post by the company YotaDevices. Main changelog can be found in the attachments, but many other new features are explained in the YotaHelp app within MM.
The update will initially arrive by OTA to those with latest RU 134 firmware, later it should be available also on the FTP YotaDevices' server. In the future it will be pushed also to EU firmwares. Keep in mind that for a succesful OTA installation, the phone must be stock, with no /system partition modifications and stock recovery. Root will be lost after the update. As this is a major update, as for every Android phone a clean start is recommended (factory reset). It is not necessary, by the way, things can work fluently even without it.
Found a bug? The company YotaDevices explicitly asked to kindly send them your findings if you wish to help, let's see how.
Find out if the bug is reproducible and notice what are the phone's settings and configuration to make this bug happen;
A useful app for bug reports is this one;
Provide as much detail as you can, with your phone specifications, firmware, version, etc;
To generate bug reports, also the command adb bugreport bugreport.zip can be used while the device is attached to PC with ADB enabled;
If you can't handle native bug report funcion, just provide as much information as you can, maybe with some screenshots;
Send everything to [email protected]

As it is taking a lot of time to update due to many requests handled by their servers, unkernet uploaded the MM update 147. I will attach .torrent files in this post, one is FULL FOTA and another one is OTA from RU 134 to MM. Here there is another mirror for FULL FOTA: GDrive. These files can be pushed manually into the phone (sideloaded) with adb using stock/TWRP recovery (even if sometimes there are errors with custom recoveries such as TWRP). This procedure brings to identical results as an OTA has been installed automatically. Just go into recovery (VOL UP + POWER), select apply update from ADB, connect the phone to PC and with a command prompt opened where adb.exe and the FOTA.zip are located, type: adb devices, which should return a value, then adb sideload FOTA.zip.
How to adb sideload an update (no data loss) @hpnhannghia created a video-guide to update to latest MM build starting from latest RU Lollipop 134, using adb sideload. If you find it useful, you may thank him in this post.
BETA-PROGRAM DETAILS ARE HIDED IN THE SPOILER BELOW, AS THEY ARE NO LONGER RELEVANT.
UPDATE 20/12/16: BETA-TESTING APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTED.
As of now the LATEST OFFICIAL MM BETA is 1.1.31. Download links and instructions are in the OP. The 1.1.43 is leaked and YotaDevices said that it is UNSTABLE.
The beta-testing program for Android Marshmallow has begun! The announcement was made officialy by the user YotaDevices on 4pda.ru.
First of all I would like to thank the user @Amplificator who pointed it out here
I will translate and put the announcement below in the spoiler:
Dear friends!
On the eve of one of the most magical and wonderful festivities, our team wants to offer YotaPhone 2 users to participate in the beta testing of a new firmware for the transition to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) operating system.
You will be able to experience Android 6.0 in action with several new features, and in return we ask you to share with us your comments and suggestions. As part of the beta test on YotaPhone 2 will be sent to upgrade to Android M. But before you decide to participate, please read the instructions below.
The updates that you receive as part of the beta version, may contain errors or defects that significantly affect the operation of the device.
You can always choose from and return to stable public version of the firmware running Android 5.0 Lollipop. However, if your smartphone has already installed a beta version of Android M, then during the rollback, all user data will be deleted permanently.
Participation in the beta available to users who bought YotaPhone 2 on the territory of Russia (in the online shop or at official points). Smartphones currently RU1.1.134 firmware version must be installed.
The beta-version of the firmware on China Yotaphone2 (Model YD206) could be installed incorrectly or with errors. In this case, we are not responsible for the performance of the whole system, so we do not recommend to the users of this model to participate in the test program.
In order to examine your applications to partecipate to the program we need the following information:
IMEI ( "Settings" -> "About phone" -> "General" -> IMEI);
A screenshot of the settings in the "About phone", namely the points "firmware communication module," "kernel version" "Build Number";
Contact information (name, email address, phone number).
Please send the info above with a personal message to the representative of YD 4PDA: YotaDevices
__________end of announcement __________
SENDING FEEDBACK TO YOTA-DEVICES: If you have found a bug that just happened or you can even reproduce it, you can send bug reports here: [email protected] with the function "send bug report" which can be found the Developers option in the Settings. You have to click that function no more than 15minutes as a bug has occurred, and in the email specify as better as possible what you've done to reproduce it, and write your IMEI. [Before sending reports, a clean installation of the latest beta is advised, that is, flashing the latest FOTA and then doing data/dalvik/cache wipes.]
For general support and feature request any YotaPhone user can write to: [email protected]
UPDATE 23/12/16: FOTA OF LATEST BETA VERSION 1.1.28, TO BE INSTALLED STARTING FROM 5.0 RU .134: need to be sideloaded (adb sideload filename.zip) using stock recovery. Download here.

UPDATE 25/12/16: TWRP BACKUP OF BETA 6.0.1 firmware 1.1.28: Download link. Unzip it and put the folder into your personal TWRP backup folder, which name is alfanumeric (for example: 025e8b1302684091f). You can find it in your phone: TWRP/BACKUPS/*******. You already have this folder if you created a backup with TWRP in the past. If not, just enter TWRP and create a small backup (of just one partition for example), thus TWRP will create the folder you need. Inside this alfanumeric folder you will put the downloaded file.

UPDATE 29/12/16: TWRP BACKUP OF BETA 6.0.1 firmware 1.1.30: Download link see instruction above. Source and credits this 4pda post.
Moreover, here there's the OTA 1.1.30 with must be applied from 1.1.28 with stock recovery using adb sideload (you must be unrooted). For your convenience there's also a full FOTA Marshmallow 1.1.28 here which must be used from latest 4.x RU Android version. Source and credits this 4pda post.
UPDATE 10/01/17: FULL ZIP OF BETA 1.1.31: It has to be installed on stock ROM without modifications, using the stock recovery and adb sideload command. link here: FOTA MM. Source: 4pda post The incremental update (from 1.1.30 to 1.1.31) has not been uploaded by anyone, at the moment.
You can use any method you want between these two: adb sideloading the official FOTA with stock recovery OR restoring a clean TWRP backup created by beta-testers.
UPDATE 03/03/17: OTA ZIP of LEAKED 1.1.43: This OTA package has been received by mistake by one of 4pda user, Kazus48; YotaDevices replied saying that this version won't be available to beta-testers due to its instability. Nevertheless, it has been extracted and uploaded by welser. I repeat that installing this OTA is not advised by YotaDevices, do it at your own risk, as it is an internal build. You can find it here: sideload it with stock recovery above 134 Lollipop.
When the beta-program will end the official marshmallow release will be available initially by OTA to any YotaPhone2 with latest RU and EU firmware (no matter which radio or which model (YD201 or YD206).
Take a look at this post to have a brief review of the MM update and to see also some screenshots.

There is no e-mail address, you eighter make a post on that thread with the information (not suggested because you expose your IMEI), or send a private message to the user YotaDevices.
If you don't want to register to 4pda.ru, you may send me a PM here with your info and I'll send it to YotaDevices on 4pda via private message, it could be a solution. If you get involved, you will receive via OTA the beta-update.
In my case I can't partecipate because I've a YD206.

Still need to translate, I guess, but here is post about new beta 6.0.1 with link for download and instructions: 4pda - Andoid M
And here is the post with TWRP backup and with OTA version for loading through adb sideload

Now that is excellent news. Any reports yet - does it work, or is it as flawed as the Android 5.1 upgrade? I would need safetynet to pass and YotaMirror to work, plus the usual stuff (Google Play Store etc).

Hey OP could you translate this please. I think it tells us about bugs but Google translate is terrible.
Сборка предназначена исключительно для внутреннего тестирования, и имеет недоработки, связанные со вторым экраном, а именно:
1) Мало виджетов
2) Кривой YotaMirror
3) Баги с перерисовкой изображения на ВВЭ.

In post #11 the three issues concern the second screen:
1. few widgets
2.displaying "crooked" image on the EPD display when mirrored
3.buggy drawings on the EPD
nothing mentioned about battery

Oh thanks for the translate. On the 4pda thread, using google translate, it said the system was smoother and faster. Animations are very smooth no lag and that heating issues are significantly less then lollipop update and that it was suitable for everyday use.
I'm going to try update to marshmallow but I may need to install twrp or something since I get the E: Cannot load volume /misc! when sideloading but that's probably because i flashed twrp before.
Any tips on how to fix the error? I'm gonna try use yotaflasher then ota update to 1.134 then sideload marshmallow. That should work right?

i still have 5.1 and it has a few bugs like random black screen on the e-paper display, mediocre battery life and sometimes the keyboard won't type anything
Does 6.0 fix some of these?

Yes it does say that the update runs very smooth with no lag, but there are couple of things that have to be be done, before trying to flash to MM:
The phone battery should be no less then 80% charged
ROOT has to be removed, and the recovery has to be STOCK one.
that`s what it says about upgrading to MM on the 4pda site

So if I use that twrp backup will I keep root/xposed/everything I have on my phone?

but how to flash this guys? it is same as we flash lollipop frmware using yotaflasher or like somthing like recovery.. ?
im on RU1.1.134 firmware..

Yeah that's what I thought I flashed 5.0.0-RU1.1.124 using yotaflasher and downloading the 1.134 OTA now. After that I'll sideload the marshmallow update and hopefully that works. I'll post and let people here know if it works or not.

I'm not sure but i'd recommend wiping before updating considering you have root & xposed that'll probably mess with the update and might cause crashes.

The following are not my instructions. They are taken from the Russian forum at 4pda and are written by "AlexRUS72" so all credit goes to him. I just tried to help with the translation.
After you have latest RUS firmware and you have stock recovery without ROOT and battery charged to at least to 80% you do the following:
1.rename the downloaded file to "yotaphone2.zip" there is a link to the file. (You should have it if you ask how to flash it )
2.put the "yotaphone2.zip" in your working directory where Adb And Fastboot files are
3.turn off the phone
4.you power on the phone by pressing volume up+power buttons and holding it until you enter recovery
5.then connect the phone with the USB cable
6.start Minimal ADB and Fastboot
7.from the recovery menu choose "apply update from ADB"
8.on the PC type "adb sideload yotaphone2.zip" and wait.........
The process takes almost twice the time it takes to flash 5-th version! You have to watch the phone screen for errors. If you see an error that means that it`s not going to work!
And one more time: nobody will be responsible for your actions! You do everything at your own risk!

Beginner question - how to start?

Hi,
It will probably take some time until I'll get my phone, but I am trying to understand how to start.
I am OK with having only English on my phone, but I would prefer to have a clean and bloat free rom that has the GAPPS and that can get OTA updates.
I want to do the minimum needed to get this, I really don't want to change roms every other week.
How should I start? I am a bit lost.
Is the Chinese rom that bad?
Should I change the rom and root it?
Thanks in advance,
Asaf
I think this should be in the Q&A forum
It sounds like you want a stable ROM with Gapps. Xiaomi offer several ROM types. If you want Gapps included from the start, you want their stable international ROM. The trouble is that at the moment they don't do one for the XRN2 yet. Head over to en.miui.com, pick a phone that has been around for longer and in the download section for that device you will see the different ROM types (there are tabs at the top of each phone section). There are also a couple of great explanatory pages in their forum that guide you through the different ROM types.
Use the xiaomi.eu ROM. Multilanguage, clean and with Gapps. OTA also included
Sent from my Redmi Note 2 using Tapatalk
First, get TWRP installed in your phone.
Then flash a stable rom
At the end, install proper gapp using TWRP.
Thanks.
So
1. Install TWRP, will this link should be enough to install it? http://en.miui.com/thread-156838-1-1.html
2. Go to http://xiaomi.eu --> ROMs DOWNLOAD and take the DOWNLOAD WEEKLY rom (http://miuif.celogeek.com/5.9.10/xiaomi.eu_multi_hermes_5.9.11_v7-5.0.zip)?

BUT, you said you don't want to have to flash a new ROM every week. The xiaomi.EU weekly ROMs are a beta ROM, they are not the same as the 'stable' ROM. I'm using the weekly version just fine, but there are a few bugs. This ROM may or may not suit your needs. Please be aware of that As soon as Xiaomi release the official stable International ROM with Gapps, that's the one you want (based on your stated requirements).
Thanks
So perhaps I'll wait, hopefully it will come up soon enough.
Hope the Chinese rom isn't too bad...

The first ROM I flashed was the stable ROM from MIUI.com. At the moment this is available as Chinese only (with only Chinese and English languages on board). It is also MIUI version 6 not 7. You do not need TWRP installed to flash this. You can just download it straight to internal storage, then use the Xiaomi updater app (which is already on the phone) to manually flash it. This ROM is not rooted.
Next I tried the weekly ROM from MIUI.com. At that point I incorrectly thought that it would be multi language, but it wasn't. It did at least have MIUI 7 on board though. TWRP is also not needed to flash this. This ROM is rooted. Root settings can be accessed via the Security app. You can also install SuperSU, grant it root access, then use it to control the root access of other apps if you wish. There are no Google apps on board. I was on n holiday at the time so I manually placed all the relevant files, set permissions and so on using ES File explorer that I side loaded and granted root privileges to. Yes, my girlfriend thought it was very romantic of me to spend a whole evening split between doing this and hunting some particularly aggressive mosquitoes trapped in our room. Only the best for my love.
Finally I downloaded the latest weekly (not stable) ROM from from Xiaomi.EU. As well as being a beta, it is not an official Xiaomi ROM. They do also have a stable ROM in offer, but it is not rooted. Basic Google apps are installed. TWRP is not needed here either. However, I installed it briefly to make a full backup of my phone, and a separate backup of the NVRAM portion of the device where the IMEI resides. Experience tells me this is important on an MTK phone in case the area becomes corrupt during an incorrect flash. You can also use SPFlash Tools to do this from a computer. Google the process, it's well worth being prepared. Damian Parsons over on GizBeat and China Phone Arena has done some useful tutorials with videos. Make sure you have the right version of SPFlash tools (which is not the same as MTKdroidtools -or something like that). I have only used a couple of times with my first two MTK phones so I don't know what version you need to use with this chipset.
For my purposes NONE of these ROMs actually fit the bill. Why? Because none of them so far allow me to select UK English as the default language or select the UK as the region I'm in. It's a small thing, but the last three Chinese phones I've had all suffered from the same problem. I end up rooting and using More Locales app to create a new default language code over and above selecting UK English in Google keyboard.
Once Xiaomi release an official global ROM the download page for the Note 2 will look like in the attached screenshot which shows the Mi4 page. Note the two tabs at the top, global and Chinese, in addition to the 'stable' and 'developer' sections down the left hand side.
Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong because I'm new to Xiaomi devices
Thanks for the detailed response.
Sounds like that for my purposes, and until an official rom is out, the easiest option is either the latest weekly or stable from xiaomi.eu.
I understand they can be installed using xiaomi updater as well?
Yes, you can install them the same way as official ROMs.

Also, when I received my phone there was a lot of non-MIUI related bloatware and possibly malware on board. It was multi language (with UK English as a built in option) but it all felt wrong, slow and dodgy. Reading elsewhere it was recommended the best thing to do was flash a ROM from a PC using the fastboot method to erase everything, then start from there. There are fastboot ROMs with instructions on the en.miui.com site. If you think you need to, you could flash via fastboot, then download your subsequent choice of ROM from xiaomi.EU and flash that however you please. As I was away (and impatient) I didn't do the first flash via fastboot. I just did a full wipe from the stock recovery, then put a ROM into internal memory, then flashed it from the stock recovery, then factory reset again. No idea if that was sufficient, but there's no sign of the extra apps any more.
You don't need TWRP

Thanks for the info, this is great for me. I will follow what you said regarding backing up this NVRAM you speak of, as I just read that the source code for the Helios X10 has been released, so we can expect more people including members of the HTC M9+ forum playing around with code.
It would be nice to have an option for UK English (or Australian English for me, to be precise) however I haven't noticed much of a difference, maybe because I have Swiftkey installed and that already has the correct language setting.

Changing the language to UK English is only part of the problem for me. Basically the phone thinks I'm in the U.S, or rather, that I have a U.S phone in the UK. This can cause problems within apps that want tailor content to my region code (or even deny me content). I've tried editing the build.prop a little, but it doesn't seem to help.
Mobile Uncle tools (free in Play Store) used to be able to back up one's IMEI number, but it didn't work on this phone. Dunno if that's because it runs lollipop. Anyway, that's why TWRP was handy and I will try using SPFlashTools again at some point.

L29 B162, nice thx a lot for posting this! what i dont get: how come there is a differentiation between hw/eu, incremental update and full update? makes no sense that theres no full version clocking in at 1GB+...
edit: nvm, stupid question lets hope we can either just flash that update over an existing B152 rom or that we get our hands on a full B162 rom soon

HA, now i definitely know what im gonna update to this weekend
edit: ok downloading the B160 L29 rom right now, ill try the same with B162, lets see how that goes....

Try it
Yes ...by update.app it's working for me ...thanks
Guys you have to take some precaution, while iam sure these link are 100% trustable, iam not sure what we can download or not and for what exact hardware its related to.
There is some question that i have still in suspend like:
- what mean "common" for them? Is that file is enough for "eu" and "normal"?
- what mean exacly in NXT-L29C432B152 the "C432". I saw some exotic number like "NXT-DL00C17B156" woot???
- Why my NXT-L29 are downloading something in a place that seem more for NXT-L09 ?
So well be careful i dont want to see more bricked device

The link you built is not working because the name of the file is not same for that version
Remember to refer to the filelist.xml -> http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1076/g104/v42227/f2/full/filelist.xml to get the name.
Also check the changelog.xml to verify the version http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1076/g104/v42227/f2/full/changelog.xml
Then you'll see the name is update_data_full_hw_meafnaf.zip and the url is http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...ll/hw/meafnaf/update_data_full_hw_meafnaf.zip
or http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...full/hw/normal/update_data_full_hw_normal.zip

Yotaphone SDK v3 - how to install it on my Yota?

Hi fellows.
I've coded something using latest Yota SDK v3. Compilation does not give any error but the apk doesn't run on my Yota device and I think it's because the SDK v3 is not installed on it.
The details. As said, I compile successfuly using the SDK according actual instructions at yota web site, using:
dependencies
{
provided "com.yotadevices.libs.public:sdk:3.7.+"
}
(Which does not include the library onto the APK, yes, correct).
If I use the "false" condition at manifest file to do not require the library in the device <uses-library android:name="com.yotadevices.sdk" android:required="false"/> then the app is installed but it crashes saying the new Yota classes (like EpdIntentCompat and Epd are not found.
So I've deduced I don't have the library of the SDK v3 installed because if android:required="true" then I get the error INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY
My device is YD201 with Android 5.0 Build number LRX21M.5.0.0-HK1.1.124d (no system updates pending)
I read at Yota developer's web site that first requirement to use new v3 SDK is "1. Ensure that latest Android M software is installed;" and I assumed it was only at Android SDK but then you can target/install the App on Android 5.0, mainly because Android M is not yet released for Yota ¿?
So, what can I do?
Ps. BTW I would gladly code using SDK 2 but I can't find any documentation on Yota's site ¿?
Thanks!!
Heey, what are you making?
And well the documentation says it: you need android marshmallow for it to work. Your HK version phone will not update automatically to it. You would have to follow a guide to first get to 1.1.134 RU while keeping radio/modem unchanged and then install the latest marshmallow update. Thats what I did. But the process can be difficult and dangerous if you are not used to flashing phones.
Hi!
Well, I'm used to flash ROMs but I expect it will be automatically updated at some point, I hope after a while the MM updated will be rolled to other versions of YD201 than just RU (since I received the 5.0 as well). Anyway, I will manually flash it if not, no problem.
I've made an app and widget to display all notifications on EPD, which I miss on 4.4/5.0 but I think it will be useless on new MM version since it is already included as I've read, so...

Ok, I answer myself: yes, with Android 6.0 MM it works, the SDK v3 is included here. I've sideload updated my device to MM and it works now.

Need Help Rooting (solved)

Hello XDA,
I have been using Samsung phones all my life , Rooted (odin) a lotta phones installed countless custom roms and finally i thought its time for pure android experience . I bought a moto g4 plus from a friend of mine and have been going through the g4 + forum for 2 days now . I have not got the slightest of idea how you root / install custom rom on this device . Its so different from how you do it on a Samsung device so finally I have decided to ask for your help .
Info I would like to share :
1.The boot loader is locked
2.The device is a XT1643
3. 3 GB / 32 GB
4. December 1 , 2017 security patch
5. NPJS25.93-14-13
6. There was a OTA update when I received the phone which I didn't update
As mentioned earlier It looks like I am a complete noob when it comes to this device and I would need all the possible help I can get .
If anybody would be kind enough to guide me through this initial learning phase I will be very grateful and would even share my whisky ( which I usually don't do )
If you need any more information please ask
Thanks and Regards

I'm sorry to reprimand you, but you really need to follow the rules here. It took me all of a few moments to find exactly what you're looking for simply by searching.

Don't hesitate to ask questions in the future, but only if you've exhausted all other avenues.

Hello Mate
As mentioned above I have been searching the forum for almost 2 days before I thought of asking for help . I did go through the thread( that you have mentioned ) earlier today but it looks a bit old to me . The link on how to flash twrp comes back with a 404 error . The last few posts are helpful (as it deals with the same build) but again as am new to the particular device It would be helpful if someone could give me a noob friendly procedure . I am not here to break the rules just trying to learn without bricking my device
Thanks and Regards

Sorry for being so short earlier. We have quite a few members here who constantly post issues without using the search function.
You can try to post I quoted above to flash TWRP. It's fairly straight forward.
Are you planning on flashing a Nougat ROM or are you going the adventurous route and flashing an Oreo ROM? The TWRP version mentioned in the quoted post should be fine for flashing Nougat and 32-bit based Oreo ROMs, but you'll need 64-bit TWRP for 64-bit Oreo ROMs.
Use this as a reference for 32-bit and 64-bit Oreo ROMs: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/oreo-roms-table-t3717226
64-bit TWRP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...recovery-twrp-3-2-1-unofficial-touch-t3722206
Once you've flashed TWRP, you can either flash different versions through TWRP itself or through the Play Store app.
As far as ROMs, I'd recommend Official Lineage OS 14.1 for Nougat: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/rom-cyanogenmod-14-1-t3522101
And I'd recommend Official AICP 13.1 for Oreo: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...om-aicp-13-1-o-8-1-0-official-weekly-t3731269 (You'll need to download the 20180212 build since most recent builds either have a broken camera or won't boot.)
Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

@Ragarianok
I am going to try the Oreo builds as I have never got a chance to try it on my previous devices so I guess I will be using a 64bit version of twrp.
This is what am planning to do :
1. Unlock the bootloader
2. Flash an official version of TWRP
2.a Take a backup
3. Flash a custom kernel through twrp
4. Flash Super Su / Magisk
5. Flash a 64 bit version of twrp using TWRP
6. Flash a custom ROM
Please correct me if I am wrong
Thanks a lot for the detailed guide
Thanks and Regards

If you want 64bit Oreo roms it's a little bit different
1. Unlock the bootloader
2. Flash a 64 bit version of twrp
2.a Take a backup and safe it off your phone
3. Flash a Oreo 64bit custom ROM
3.a flash gapps package arm64 (8.0 or 8.1 depending on rom version)
4. Flash magisk 15.3
If you want to root the stock nougat rom steps 1-4 of your list are correct.

Not quite. You'll want to go in this order:
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash TWRP
3. Backup
4. Wipe (Wipe/Advanced Wipe; ART/Dalvik, System, Data, Cache)
5. Flash ROM
6. Flash Gapps
7. Reboot
8. Go through setup wizard and let everything settle for ~10 minutes
9. Boot into TWRP and flash SuperSU or Magisk (I would suggest Magisk), then flash kernel and reboot
You'll need to flash the unofficial 64-bit TWRP mentioned in my previous post to flash a 64-bit Oreo ROM, otherwise you'll get an error message when flashing ROM.
You'll also need to use unofficial Gapps since there aren't any official Gapps for 8.1 just yet. I'd recommend either mini or micro here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/unofficial-opengapps-8-1/files/arm64/20180225/
You should be able to flash the most recent Magisk located here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/beta-magisk-v13-0-0980cb6-t3618589
If you do flash a custom kernel, I'd highly suggest Frostbitten: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...s-frostbitten-kernel-moto-g4-g4-plus-t3649155

If it was an OTA update, it looks likely to be more the February 2018 security patch rather than the January 2018 patch.

That is true, however for our devices we have generally been issued the same security patch level regardless of region. It may be different builds for particular regions (e.g NPJS25.93-14-13 for India, Brazil and EU, and NPJ25.93-14.7-3 for US) but they are both the December 2017 security patch.
Regardless, we've still yet to see an OTA newer than December.

Evening ,
Thanks For all the support i finally rooted MY phone
But
I ran into a bit of a problem " Sim Cards Not Detecting "
This is What i did
1. Unlocked My bootloader
2. flashed twrp-3.1.1-athene_shreps
3. Took a backup of everything
4. flashed ElementalX-G4-2.00.zip
5. flashed Magisk 16.0
reboot : No sim cards detected
After which I flashed lineage-14.1-20180219-nightly-athene-signed.zip and the gapps provided
experienced the same error again .
uninstalled magisk and flashed the latest Super Su (V2.82) with no positive results
not sure what went wrong ...is there any way out of it ?

First, I'm a little confused about the fact that you flashed that version of TWRP instead of the one located here: https://dl.twrp.me/athene/
Second, I've never had that happen when flashing, so I'm not really sure what to recommend. If I had to guess, I would say the best route would be to restore your backup and see if the SIM is detected.
I have found at least one thread with a similar issue; might be worth a look: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/fix-sim-card-issue-t3751679
Let us know what happens.

I went through that before posting my question .. the paper does not help .
Is it okey if I flash the twrp that you have mentioned over the existing twrp?
Thanks and regards
DW
Edit : I have restored my backup but still the same issue.
Edit : flashed the official TWRP . still the same results
EDIT : After 3 hours + Countless reboots the issue solved on its own ... I am not sure what really happened.. lol
Thanks for the Support

[OP3T][LATEST 9.0.6] Collection of unbrick tools

Disclaimer: By attempting any of the processes listed in this thread you accept full responsibility for your actions. I will not be held responsible if your device stops working, catches fire, or turns into a hipster and claims to have been modified before it was cool.
Hi everyone, as only a few versions of unbrick tool are available here and that they allow to rollback to specific versions of Oxygen OS I decided to search for more and succeeded in that.
As the instructions and Qualcomm drivers are already available here, I don't feel a need to rewrite them.
You can ask questions here on how to use and issues, however I might not be able to answer immediately.
Here are the files uploaded on AndroidFileHost ordered by Android version:
ANDROID 9:
OOS 9.0.6
OOS 9.0.5
OOS 9.0.4
ANDROID 8:
OOS 5.0.8
OOS 5.0.6
OOS 5.0.5
OOS 5.0.4
OOS 5.0.3

@Some_Random_Username how much time does it take to flash 9.0.4?
Mine is taking more than 10 min - its stuck at param preprocessing.

step 2. reboot pc.
step 3. connect oneplus device in edl mode.
step 4. pc installs driver again.

Unfortunately no as I do not know any other provider hosting for free such an amount of files (I have same thread for OP3/5/5T/6/6T/7/7 Pro).
You could however select the mirror the more near to your location when downloading via AFH to get a faster download speed.

I tried it again from another server and this time it downloaded at 9MBPS! I got the file!
Thanks a load for sharing all these files! The normal "unbrick your phone" by flashing Android 6 wasn't working for me. From your link I was able to download the file for Android 8 (Oxygen 5.0.3). And it worked! My phone got unbricked finally!
A note to everyone: For whomever the earlier unbrick step doesn't work, you need to try downloading some other Oxygen OS (different Android version than the one you tried earlier).
I'm going to make a post in the main "unbrick" thread and let other people know about this. Once again, thanks a lot for posting these files and saving my phone!

Except that normally you shouldn't need to turn off driver signature enforcement and that drivers should automatically be downloaded and installed if you're on Windows 10 that's it yeah.

Well, not to be pessimistic but firstly OnePlus would need to deliver one last update for this device as November is when they should drop support as per their software maintenance schedule thread https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/oneplus-software-maintenance-schedule.862347/ .
No, I didn't repack it for Pie by myself, I just managed to get it from OnePlus.
