Hello guys,
I'm acutally running the X-Note build 20 stuck on Android 4.4.2
I have some problems to recognize a good rom for me so I'm here asking for suggestions. I don't need anything customized. If you could indicate a CLEAN stock rom that could let me be updated with the lastest android versions, I would be really thankful.
Thanks in advance
One of the best you can find is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2649176
I am looking for a stable nexus like ROM for note 3, I am thinking of getting the next nexus device and want to try and sample the experience for the next few months. Any suggestions as to which ROM will suit me best. I am looking for something stable and reliable?
There is far too many options available now.
Should I go for something like omega ROM? I don't normally flash ROMs but I am sure I will figure it all out.
AOSP Roms
Your should forget Samsung TW crapware and flash an AOSP Rom.
Try Slim if you want lean and stable or Euphoria to remain stable and have more customization options.

Happy flashing...
Many thanks for your reply, I think I will give slim a try.

i suggest cm based roms, bigger choice and more community support through shear numbers LOL
perhpas i have t add that i tried almost any rom on 7 devices. nevertheless slim is one of the very best roms around, well maintained. i just need a few more features and xposed is not yet stable enough for me and app settings does not yet work.
Slim used to be my Rom of choice until these last months when we can't have neither visibility nor understanding on what is happening in/to the team.
And I have switched from the Galaxy "S" series to "Note" series, so although I'm very fond of AOSP, it's hard to find an AOSP rom with the native TW features, mainly S-Pen features that I used quite a lot.
I've tried Aryamod and found it nice. My daily driver so far.

#my2cents
I use the multi-window feature a lot so I kept returning to touchwiz roms.
better battery life and better s pen support is also a plus.
currently the best rom in my opinion is aryamod 5.3, but you can wait until 5.4 comes out.
the most important thing is to go to the OTA app that comes with the rom and flash the "no 3minit battery" zip, which will return your battery icon to default instead of the retarded 3minit one.
good luck
So is there any rom (I think stock based would be my best bet) that has no important bugs? Or should I just flash a custom kernel on a stock firmware?
No there is no such perfect custom rom due to some technical limitations.
Try stable ROMS, there is more probability you find everything working there. I suggest you Resurrection Remix for personalization and CM 12.1 for stability. Btw is your choice, choose the one suits you best.

as you said the stock based is your best bet but for me i use s5 mini rom it has everything working exept NFC because s5 mini does not have that feature
This rom has probably less bugs than the rest http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-neo/development/rom-galaxy-s3-neo-stock-firmware-t2975102
Best is cm11 with sev3n kernel. 6h of screen good camera(cm12 is a joke), radio and everything. No bugs no lags and finally a decent phone. If you want lollipop flavour install cm11 ideal theme from store. It looks the same. After trying almost everything it,s my choice.

Offline chaning work? Battery idle 7 day work? Thank you.
(SORRY BAD MY ENGLISH 50%)
Yes offline charging works and in cm12 also works. Only cm12.1 has that bug. Try kang cm 12.1 after flashing perharps 10 roms is now my favourite . Well i miss cm11 Camera but you can't have everything, i'm a little tired of KitKat and since yesterday we hace a good lollipop ROM with a good tweaked kernel and almost free of bugs.
I am using stock firmware 4.4.2 with xposed and some modifications. It is good and now i am going to try any custom kernel. For me, custom roms are useless especially those CM based.
Hello! I've been using Cloudy ROM for a long time but now I feel lack of RAM on my G2 Int. That's why I search for the ROM as close to pure Android as possible. Please, advice me some. Thanks!
P.S. I record a lot of video so tell me what to install in addition to this ROM in order to capture nice photos and videos. Thanks a lot.
Resurrection Remix
Give a try to Resurrection Remix rom, one of the best I've been testing.
Any LG ROM is better than any AOSP/CM ROM for G2. Fact. Stay on LG ROMs.

Both roms have pros and cons.
On AOSP (MM) multitasking is much better.
On LG Stock camera and battery is better.

You can try exodus and cm13 or blisspop.
I have benchmarked on exodus rom , clean install, via antutu benchmark and i get low score than my currently installed lollipop stock with bunch of apps and stuff.
Anyway , for me , if you dont want lots of customization and stuff, or not looking to get a marshmallow on your device, then flash stock lollipop, root, install twrp, install dorimanx kernel, greenify with exposed, and enjoy highest possible battery life.
go for the rom called Google edition 1.5. Flash Dorimanx. Be happy.
I use Dirty Unicorns with Lambda Dominó kernel and right now i have the most high batt/speed i ever had on my G2...
I'd say:
- for lightweight stock experience take somboon's stripped-down rom
- for a modern UX rom, take Ice-x rom. Take this one if You want to focus on photos and videos.
- for an up-to-date original android experience take Dirty Unicrons and Exodus roms. Both are AOSP base, both offer stability and lots of features.
These roms don't offer milions of customisations, but provide a great experience with excelent batterty life. At least for my D802.
I used all of them them as car navigation and did a lot of document photographing for my work.
All 4 are good daily drivers and never failed me.
It is up to You to tune the roms to Your needs. I have found out that both Dirty Unicrons and Exodus don't really need a custom kernel.
However Dorimanx's kernel is highly recommended for stock-based roms.
So I recomend You Ice-X with Dorimanx's kernel, but I don't know which version will work best for You.
I add that the AOSP MM roms are heated much more than the stock. Stock 25ºC-36ºC and 32ºC-44ºC AOSP...
With the lambda kernel and underclocking they improve a bit, but still warming up the phone rather than the stock, especially when using some app like the camera, gps,...
- For AOSP MM and great customization, Resurrection Remix rom [6.0.1_r46][UBER-GCC 4.9][CM13], great rom, + kernel lambda stable, improve overheating.
- For stock rom for my the best is ROM 5.0.2. stock based SRKG2-4-10 (Fast,Stable,Yummy) [3 In 1 ROM with Thai Food Names]
I've been mucking around with Android for a while but basically stay with a ROM and what it comes packaged (or recommended) with.
Recently I've been looking around at Custom Kernels and I see they offer different options and functionality, but I lack some basic information:
I am guessing that the Kernel and ROM have to be compatible?
Is, for example a Kernel like Blu Spark or Lighting (all for OP5 and Nougat) compatible with all OP5 Nougat ROMs or is it ROM by ROM?
I looked over the pages for both Kernels and also for xXx Freedom OS and didn't see any information concerning compatible ROMs or compatible Kernels, is there any place/list that shows the compatibility of ROMs and Kernels?
Any information, or guidance to where I can find it would be appreciated.
Very simple.
There are 2 types of kernels. One which only works on an OOS based (custom) Rom, and one which will only work on a LOS or AOSP based Rom. Most custom kernels will work on every LOS or AOSP based ROM. But... There's one negative thing about flashing custom or OOS based Kernels. You will never know how the Kernel and/or ROM will behave. There's no 100 percent guarantee if a custom Kernel or ROM are made for each other. Even if a Kernel which comes with the ROM is no guarantee for working properly. There's no such thing as "Stable" even with ROMs. Because stable doesn't exist in a Dev World. It will always be a never ending story.
Long story short, search for yourself an satisfying combination. If you found one combination you like, stick with it and motivate the Custom ROM Developer and or Kernel Developer.
Edit: as you can read i cannot give a proper answer to your questions. The reason why a Custom ROM Dev doesn't show a list in their OP for working Custom Kernels, is mainly based on the fact that they don't like if a user flash another Kernel that didn't came with their ROM. Mostly to avoid non related ROM issues. Besides that, if you made a decision to flash a Different kernel, along with their ROM, you're on your own.
Sorry for being off-topic.
Each kernel needs to be build for each rom. Well not each rom. Each rom based on the top three. OOS, AOSP, and LOS. As each has their own kernel.
If you use LOS 14.1 or RR, then youll need a los kernel. If you run stock OOS. Freedom or xXx, youll need an oos based kernel
Not all devs build their kernels for los or aosp. Me as an example. I only have mine built for OOS and It wont work on los or aosp (well it may but you are 99.999% likely to run into a lot of problems)
I hope that clears it up a tad bit

@lekiaM You provided a great answer and thank you. I did notice that some developers (xXx NoLimits) provide the option to select various Kernel during the install. I pretty much expected that matching a Rom to Kernel was a crap shoot to certain degree. I am going to try a few out and see how it goes.
One final question, if a Kernel offers functionality that is not offered in the original Kernel, how do you go about taking advantage of the added functionality?
Will the Kernel add those selection to the settings or will I need a different app to access them? I was thinking in particular of the don't wake on plug/unplug. I utilized some ROMs (CM) that had this feature in the setting, I use Freedom OS now and don't see that in the setting, but I see that the Blu Spark Kernel offers access to that function.

It does thanks. Prior to selecting some ROMs to try, I read that AOSP required a specific ROM so I steered away from it, for now. Until I am able to become a little more familiar with the entire subject.

An aosp based rom will install and run like any other rom you decide to flash. It comes with the stock kernel built in
Each rom has their advantages and disadvantages. Currently Im running xXx 4.0 which is OOS based with extra features and then of course my own kernel for better performance and battery
@noncomjd Good question. And honestly I've been wondering that too (most of the time) i could gave you a simple answer on that, but i wont.
A Kernel can interfere with the ROMs behavior (for example manipulate the vibration, sounds, led light strength, button behavior and so on.) But a Kernel has their limits too and also the Kernel Dev in question. Besides that , i did saw some very strange things a Kernel Dev can do to manipulate a ROMs behavior. But i wont go further in that.
Answer to your question:
Yes. A good kernel dev can overwrite or add some tweaks in the ROM itself (you won't see it while flashing, but believe me after that, some things in settings are missing or added in the build.prop) . But as i earlier said it has their limits. A good Kernel Dev is aware of their capabilities. And they mostly play save. If a kernel Dev mentioned or added a feature or something in their changelog, than the feature is there. But to enable or disable that feature, you mostly need an 3rd party app(like a Kernel Manager) to activate or deactivate their added feature.
You need a kernel tweaking app in order to change kernel settings.
You can change those settings even if you run the stock kernel, but it won't offer as much features.
There are many kernel tweaking apps available and some kernels even provide their own apps.
Thanks all for some great information. Have a good base to set out exploring a little more.
which pie rom is stable and bugless
answer me plzzz
You can try these
First of all I don't think there's no such ROM as BUG-LESS. Even our X00TD's official stock ROM has many bugs. But yes there are some ROMs, stable enough to make you feel awesome. They have bugs but it shouldn't affect your experience. You can try the followings, I've tried them personally.
Pixel Experience Official : A full stock Pie experience. Not much customization.
DOT OS Official : Fully customized and one of the best looking custom ROM out there.
Havoc OS Official : I'm currently using this one. It'll provide you options to fully customize your device. Battery life of the Kernel is good as well.
Let me know if you've some other ROMs (with lesser bugs) as well, I'll give'em a try too....!!
Hope it helps....!

First off, wrong place to post. Second, there is no best kernel or ROM. Everything has issues, just that some don't effect everybody.
Kernels u can try: TheRagingBeast, Rawwork, Darkonah, Azure, PBH, Singh, etc. Try all and settle on one. Rawwork is my personal favorite.

I agree. In fact it's better than havoc because it's well polished and 99.99% bug free(could be totally bugless). Going to try dotos now.
