I've rooted my Moto G4 XT1625, nearly bricked it, had to reset it a few times to get WiFi to work, and am right now in a good place. The one last thing I'd like to fix up is that whenever I normally boot my phone (single press of Power button when it is off), it will load to the bootloader as if I was pressing Power and Volume Down.
I flashed the stock images from moto's site and that's when I noticed this particular problem.
It's not that big of a deal, and may get me to do more regular backups through TWRP, but some quick searching the internet and xda forums seems this isn't a common problem; I couldn't come up with the right keyword combination to find it. (You know how common "Bootloader" is?) I was curious if anyone knows what happened and how to fix it so that I can do a quick restart of my phone without entering the bootloader every time. (And of course I want to retain my ability to enter bootloader if I press the Power and Volume Down key to boot.)
Cheers
Having the same issue amz XT1625 7.0 locked BL
I am currently having this issue as well on my Amazon XT1625, also i am on Stock 7.0 and locked bootloader.
Does anyone have any insight into this issue?
Edit:

Found a fix after i checked the fastboot reason: UTAG "bootmode" configured as fastboot
using the fastboot cmd:
Code:
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear

Hey guys,
I recently went to power on my Nexus 7 (2013) after a weekend of having it off, and it got stuck on the white Google start up screen with no further responses. Holding power the devices still turns off, and I am able to get into Bootloader and Recovery. From bootloader "start" just sends it back to the Google start up screen. I'm able to enter Recovery but the Android logo with the red warning triangle doesn't have the No Command script below it, Power and Vol. Up gets me into the Recovery menu. Entering recovery I get errors of : Can't open, failed to mount, can't mount etc which continues as I try to clear the cache, and wide the partition (I'd post pictures but I can't as a new poster). Moving on I tried some of the guides to flashing a new factory image with fastboot or Adb. Since I don't have normal access to the device I'm sure sure is USB debugging was enabled or not, but in bootloader that shouldn't matter correct? Anyways here is where I hit my snag, my device is still in LOCKED bootloader, and the fastboot oem unlock command gets me to the unlock bootloader screen, but after I select and confirm the option the device freezes and no progress is made. From that screen I am still able to turn it off by holding the power button down, so I'm somewhat confused about it becoming unresponsive to the unlock bootloader command. All of the other fastboot commands like fastboot erase cache come back with "Failed: Too many Links". From my knowledge I've checked through everything I can do software wise, and I was curious if you guys had any input before attributing this all to a hardware failure? I've got some experience rooting and flashing custom ROMS on my phone so I have somewhat of an understand of all this but its by no means vast. Thanks for the help, and I tried to provide you with as much info as possible but I'll attempt to answer additional questions to the best of my ability.

A clear explanation of the problem alone with everything that you have tried will do for reporting hardware/software issues and also help others help you.

You can fix the sticky bit issue pretty easily through another fastboot command. The command is: fastboot oem fb_mode_clear - Check out this thread for all the details. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41706009&postcount=2
Alternatively, a full reflash of the firmware generally fixes the issue.

I know its been a long time but um here is a belated thank you! I did in fact solve the issue thanks to xda and you, so truly thank you
Hello,
I got a Moto G4 with the LineageOS version 7.1.2 from the end of May.
I wanted to reboot to recovery, from the power menu options. Never thought that something like this may happen.
The only sign of life is the blinking LED while being connected to AC or USB port of PC (it goes fast on and off).
The key combinations don't do anything (even if I hold for 30 seconds). So no possibility to force restart? Access fastboot? Boot menu? Anything? :crying:
Never had a weird issue like that and don't find anything on google about it.
Any ideas? It is the only phone I got, would be soooo bad if it is somehow dead now.
Try holding the power button down for 2-3 minutes, this may invoke a hard restart which may break your device out of whatever state it's in. Then you may be able to reboot as normal.
What TWRP recovery do you have?
Thank you so much, after 2 minutes the phone restarted. I always thought the time needed was 20 seconds.
You saveed me <3
What might be interesting, my phone still consumed battery while it was off, went from 100 to 14%
I also had the same issue yesterday but I did a hell lot of things to flash bootloader again
I first searched xda Moto forums ,there I found 1 thread where in I had to blank flash some file using Qualcomm drivers installed in pc....
Then I was able to boot to bootloader...this was a different bootloader I had seen...but I cud see bootloader version B.***
In bootloader the recovery did not boot
'Your phone did not boot' was d msg
Then I tried flashing fastboot roms of Moto g4 plus
1st I tried mpj 6.0
2nd npj 14.11 7.0
In both above cases partition flash gpt.bin failed...preflash validation failed....!
So I tried fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Then also it failed ......unable to initialize partition table...!
I loses hopes and worried that I need to go to service center
Then I saw that the same rom which was there was to be flashed
Then I fastboot flash latest rom npsj14.4...
This time I was able to flash partition gpt.bin
Then I successfully flashed bootloader.img ,
Then when flashed boot.img again I faced ' preflash validation failures...'!
Now I saw mobile bootloader was like official Moto bootloader
Finally I successfully flashed twrp.img
This time no error occurred because gpt.bin and bootloader of npsj14.4 worked
From twrp I restored the backup...and life of my phone came back
If I had seen this method earlier only it would have saved 2-3gb data for dwnlding all version fastboot roms and time, the worry I felt...so disgusting......so I feel that reading others problems in forum is very useful for us in future....
ty @ECHO u saved one Junior members problem otherwise had to suffer like me??
Hello out there.
since two days i own a second hand Can-L11 EU version. My problem: i can´t boot in fastboot mode to unlock bootloader. Phone ist working with stock rom, adb is working, i can flash full stock roms with power + vol+/-.
Device is starting in fastboot mode via adb or cable and poweron or power + vol-. Immidiately after the fastboot-mode screen appears, phone is starting new, so i can´t place any commands. Fastboot screen shows frp unlock and bootloader locked.
I flashed a new full stock rom but nothing changed, it´s the same as before flashing - rebooting after fastboot-screen appears.
What am i doing wrong? Is there someone with similiar problems? Searched many threads, tried many tips - nothing works. I don´t want to use a phone without root to install a reasonable firewall, that protects me from google and huawei or whatever app spying me out....
Thanks for replies...

Hi, just bought a phone for my son secondhand, it's going to be sold again if I can't fix this! The phone was sold cheap as it had software issues (of course) so I figured I could fix these and get it going (install custom recovery, ROM etc). I'm slightly stumped at the moment, so maybe you can help me.
The phone's defaulting to the bootloader screen, lots of info on this but the key thing I noticed was that it says 'the device is locked status code: 2'.
Clicking 'start' takes me a 'warning unlocked bootloader screen' then it runs through the 'hello moto' startup screen and back to bootloader
Clicking 'recovery' - there is definitely no working recovery on it, I just a get the dead robot with 'no command' underneath.
Clicking 'Factory Mode' allows me so far through the startup (after the bootloader unlocked warning), and you can get so far through setting it up, but because the battery is so low (it's permanently on with the bootloader when plugged in) it never seems to charge up enough, and either way the screen freezes at or around the final setup steps and then it reverts back to bootloader. I thought if I got into developer options and security, I could enable the USB debugging, OEM unlock etc, but no go there.
I've installed Motorola USB drivers but it doesn't seem to be registering on the PC (Windows 10).
There is some suggestion on other forums (less reputable!) that the locked status code may mean the bootloader has been relocked, but this seems contrary to what the phone is telling me.
Any ideas welcome, thanks - it's a lovely phone, just not much use at the moment.

OK, some progress, I have now unlocked the bootloader, so have the UNLOCKED Status Code:3 which is good, unfortunately has not yet helped with my issues. I can't use ADB, but MFastboot tool is working, so can run commands from that (hence me getting to that stage). Tried reinstalling firmware, may try and do this again now bootloader unlocked....
slightly further along...

I have now managed to flash stock firmwares using Mfastboot tool, but hasn't unfortunately fixed the boot up issues. However, I have now worked out how to access the recovery, by reading other posts on different Motorola phones:
boot to bootloader, power+vol down
in bootloader select recovery using the volume up/down buttons, press power button to select
phone boots into 'recovery,' showing the dead android with no command
at this point hold down the power and volume up, then release volume up but keep power held down
phones boots, by magic, into android recovery, where you can factory reset, wipe cache adb sideload and install from SD card
I now need to try and get a flashable recovery to sideload, as the attempts to flash it don't work for me. The OS I seem to be on is reteu 7.1.1, so I will try and go for a lower version, and see if that allows me to flash the custom recovery I desperately need.
But....things are improving slowly....

OK thanks, I read that, but didn't realise it was a thing....should I be able to sideload a custom rom using ADB?
