Hotspot - Internet connection not working - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I do get a Hotspot, can connect fine, but there is no Internet access on the connected device.
Does anyone else have the same problem?

Anyone with A2017 can confirm that it is working?

I recently upgraded my A2017G from B03 to B08. When I ran B03, the hotspot feature worked fine for me. After the upgrade I see the same behaviour as mentioned here. Client device connects to the hotspot, but the client can't access the internet as the Axon does not seem to route. I upgraded to B09 and this still did not fix this issue. I will try to revert to B06 and eventually to B03 to see if it brings back the functionality...
-EDIT-
I reverted back to B06 and the hotspot function is working again!
.

Assuming you are rooted.
Add to your build.prop - net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
Then open terminal emulator and type:
Su - enter (grant access)
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
By doing these two changes I have never had an issue hotspot or being billed for it. If you are not rooted and have hotspot on your plan, I would suggest trying an open connection (no password on the hotspot) at least to see if it works then continue troubleshooting.

Not rooted.... And no success with the open WiFi..
Weird.

Ya I've had some laptops just not want to work. I would try another device (phone, laptop, etc) and see if anything will work. Also try the troubleshooting wizard in Windows but doubt it will help.

Yep, could be device specific.. I'm rooted & tablet or PC connects just fine, but my Grace Internet Radio receiver, which connects easily to my router will not connect to the hotspot.

Can confirm that the same behavior is there with an A2017G. Apparently not with all devices.
This article sound exactly like my issue (and has a possible fix):
http://www.geektalks.org/fix-zte-axon-7-wifi-hotspot-tethering-no-internet-access-issue/

Works perfectly for me, couldn't live without it.
I use it regularly to work on the go connecting my laptop and to share my data with my son (iPhone 5s).
Great speeds too.
A2017G, stock B08.

I had the same problem along with being unable to receive MMS. Once I updated MMS setting "APN type" to "default, supl, mms", both started function correctly. Hope this helps.

This is a common issue with mobiles with Chinese software and for Chinese market. There should not be problems with G and U models. My is G version and everything works ok. I used to use Lenovo mobiles and have had the same problem. It can be fixed by DF Tethering Fix application from Play Store. There is one condition - you have to root your mobile.
Regards

I've got the same problem with my ZTE Axon 7. I tried to set the phone back into the B03 version but i don't know how to fix that? Can you tell me how i can revert the system on the ZTE from a later version b09 to an earlier version b06 or b03? Can you guide me trough this proces? I hope so.
Thank you very much

Everyone to fix this issue you have to flash the bootstack zip for your version of the ROM,

I've tried everything except this.
So I flash bootstack and I was able to connect my old phone using tether, said ZTE on wifi icon. But then it jumped to a different wifi. So I forced it to my ZTE and now all it does is trying to obtain IP address.....Over and over. Please help if possible, thanks in advance.

Open More/Cellular network/Access Point name. Choose your active access point and edit APN type. If there is anything there add dun in the end of line. Mine looks like this: default, supl, dun.

Do you have Dual SIM?
I have A2017 (China) LineageOS 14.1 20170424 and also experienced Hotspot issues with 2nd SIM.
The 2nd SIM is setup for data.
I get a DHCP address, but can't connect to the internet.
I suspect a routing/iptables issues.
I've managed to get it working with this workaround:
Connect to the hotspot (DHCP). if you don't have internet access go to "Set-Up Wi-Fi hotspot" and press save.
This re-saves the connection and internet access is fixed - works for me.

wi-fi stopped working

Hi. The Wi-fi on my G1 has stopped working.
I rooted my phone with the RC9 uk version by JF. I had no problems connecting to encrypted network.
I tried moving apps onto sd card and ran into problems so I wiped my phone and reset everything.
I cannot connect anymore on open or encrypted network. I can view it and when I try and connect it, it try's to obtain ip address and then fails!!?
Any ideas? Thanks
Hi
Does anyone think it's worth flashing back to the original version? I suspect not because it worked ok on the jf version I have but don't know what else to try?
I will try another wireless network at work today.
If my phone is picking up the network but not connect sound like a hardware problem or just a software one do you think?
Thanks
I had a similar problem but it was a router issue. I would def try another router before blaming the phone.
Ok. I just tried another router at work with an open network and its still the same. Shall I flash the phone do you think. Don't really want to do it again but I use the wifi network a lot and I am worried it could be hardware.
Thanks
well if you flash it and still have the problem then its hardware based. So nothing can hurt from flashing
I re flashed with latest version rc9 jf version and now working again. Thank you neoob

First of all, sorry to ask, have you entered the correct password and are you sure?
Secondly you might want to check this setting. Settings > Wireless > Advanced > WiFi in StandBy select 'always' in the options list.
As a last option without further information just reboot your phone. If all that doesnt work it would be nice to know what Firmware exactly you have (Bxxx) and what security standard your WiFi is using.
Hope that this helps you

problem with wifi
problem with wifi: when I am close to the modem, the internet works without problems, but if I move in an 'other room the signal decreases, and will not connect to wifi. How should I do ??? you think it is a hardware or software problem?
I had the same issue, luckily not with home's wifi. It fixed itself a month later.

Same here with B550 and B194
Hello!
I used Version ...B194 until today, and flashed now to B550 (Marshmallow + EMUI4.0) in Order to try resolve an issue with WiFi not connecting or just connecting occasionally with low bandwidth.
However, the Issue remains!
I factory resetted, wiped cache, flashed to Marshmallow with the official build (didn't root anything or install custom software).
Did anyone experience the same? And/or found a fix?
The things like setting WiFi always on when the phone is idle and so on was already tried.. (the setting is default anyway).
Any help would be welcome.
Thanks a lot

Ok, this wifi issue has been faced by many users, and in their cases too, they tried everything but all in vain... The only solution for you (according to their trials) is that you must go to customer service center and submit it there.. Apparently, there's a problem with wifi chip..

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any fix for this. You'll need to send it back to Huawei for service. I just went through that myself a couple of weeks ago.

Funky Huawei erecovery Like Solution 100% working

https://www.android-hilfe.de/thema/anleitung-zum-flash-jeder-software-oeminfo-notwendig.834881/
Online Method with Erecovery
To be sucessfull here Phone needs to get the OEMINFO.Bin or HWOTA OEMINFO from TWRP or HWOTA
Unlock Bootloader doesnt matter, at least a proper OEMINFO needs to get flashed
1:First set your Router to DNS 81.177.139.39 truly complete, that means all traffic routed throght this DNS
DNS: Primary 81.177.139.39 Secondary 81.177.139.39 It wont work if you dont edit it complete
2 Open Firmware Finder PC Programm Now click on common Base. Now look for your Firmware (same as your OEMINFO ) Now on your Firmware Changelog link rightclick. Copy und on Firmware Access
Please check if its working.
Now on Firmware Proxy , give in link Changelog.xml and click on Set.
Now on Register Update example like http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1356/g77/v84935/f2/full/changelog.xml
You registered fw ......... for ip 77.66.44.31.2
Now restart phone in erecovery . Now choose Network with Router DNS with 81.177.139.39
Connect and Firmware should load like Funky Huawei like .
Works 100%, No bad flashed Firmware anymore.
i was able to flash LON on my Mate 9 by example.
Good job.
Fantastic!
So you already have emui 5.1?
Any problem with the rom of LON or is it all functional?
Thanks!

LON has a few Problems: Screen resolution, also you need a launcher that is permanent like in Mate 9.
LON is stable, Only the resolution is crap at beginning.
Worst Problem, it seems there are a few Problems with initiating the display Driver , that means no bootlogo, black screen until Menu Boot up.
What a great new! Thanks a lot! a question, to which server are you connecting with those DNS? I'm curious and don't understand how this process really works.

No need to connect to another Server .

It's team MT server from firmware finder.
Great news. My isp modem doesn't let me change the DNS so I guess I'm screwed with this method lol.
Giving this a try now.
For folks who can't change settings in their router directly, there's a handy trick I use on a weekly basis - Windows 10 has a built-in hotspot feature for compatible WiFi chipsets, and you can change the DNS settings for the hotspot created by a laptop or PC.
Hi, for rebrand, do you flash the oeminfo previously by twrp like in Funky method? or what do you do with the oeminfo.bin?
And a little doubt... what does this mean? it is only an example, isn't it?

OEMINFO can you get from this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/development/oeminfo-library-t3555353
or you can take the bins already in the HWOTA Program.
But all bins could be flashed by TWRP or HWOTA
May I ask for some advice? I checked in Firmware access in the PC Firmware Finder program if the latest firmware available is working but it says the firmware has not yet been approved for installation. So does this mean it's no point me trying to update via the PC program and changed DNS settings?
Its giving the exact same error result as the android FF app does. I thought the whole point of the PC program/DNS method was to bypass the authentication error and install anyway or have I misunderstood?
Thanks!

You have to dive into good old Control Panel once the hotspot is active. Network and Internet/Network and Sharing Centre/Change Adapter Settings/right-click and launch properties on the hotspot connection/open the IPV4 settings and set primary DNS from there.

Hi,
Updated to MHA-L29C185B181 from FF app yesterday it said update failed, but in the settings it shows as MHA-L29C185B181.
After this update WiFi does not turn ON.
I have tried the update again using mobile data, this time it installed successfully, but still unable to turn ON Wifi.
I have tried 1. Network reset, 2. All settings reset, 3. factory reset. Wifi issue is not fixed.
Any other solutions for this??
Ho do I roll back to the old version or re-flash the same version, to fix the wifi issue.
Thanks

Oneplus 5 does not connect to wifi networks

Hello!
My Oneplus 5 does not connect to any wifi networks. It is able to see all wifi networks in the range, and is also able to save the network if the password entered is correct, however, it won't actually connect to any network that is saved. I have tried using advanced options while connecting to a network to change from DHCP to Static settings, but it still won't connect to any network. I have also tried changing the wifi band frequencies (2.4 and 5 Ghz individually) to connect to a network but that too does not help. Mobile Data and carrier signal on the other hand work flawlessly, and so does bluetooth connectivity, NFC and personal hotspot (which is why I am very confused). I should also mention that when it fails to connect to a saved wifi network, it occassionally displays "Disabled" under the network SSID (replacing "Saved").
I have changed 3 different ROMs (LOS, stock OOS and No Limits ROM, even replaced the stock kernel with blu_spark r69 when I tried using No Limits and stock OOS to try and see if that fixed the problem), but the phone just won't connect to any detected/saved network using any of those ROMs. I have reverted it fully back to stock now (OOS 4.5.14 and stock kernel and stock recovery) and am still having the same problem.
Sorry if this issue has been solved before and if I am reposting something, but I really need this fixed ASAP and am not able to find a working solution after searching the forums and googling the whole day. Please help me! Thanks!
Edit: finally fixed the problem thanks to Ivints and PeterGuru. Check out the post that Ivints linked below (especially the comments in page 2 of the same)

if you want to stay on Nougat look for the O2N revert flash file it's in the Oxygen 5 beta threads that will let you get back to a nougat based rom.
The Oreo update touched other partitions outside of /system so those wifi drivers don't work with Nougat anymore

Hello there my friends, i have a problem with my op5
its about wifi: it doesn t see my wifi anymore. idk why
it s been connected to this wifi 2 years ,even after switching roms kernels, firmwares
and now , it doesnt see the wifi no more, actually it sees it, in `Saved` section, but when i press on it to connect
it says ` not in the area` but my other op6 its connected no problem
and i even tried through qr code, it says ` check ur connection and try again`
Just one add-on cause I was just a few minutes away from formatting my data. My OP5 unlocked rooted, rest stock, wasnt connecting to my home wifis (2,4ghz and 5ghz). I flashed a full ota zip. I deleted wifi bluetooth via backups settings.
But I found out that connecting to an iphone hotspot worked. So I entered manually the network SSID + password although the same network name was already in my wifi list (with marking: "saved"). I then clicked on the second "new" same wifi and it directly connected to my home wifi. Same happened to the 5ghz network. I then deleted the old 2 ones.
I have no idea why this happened, I only tried to get VoLTE/Wifi Call running with the magisk module. This might changed sth but I dont get the connection here since there should be no interference...
