I've been out of the game for a while and now I feel all stupid and ****. I've been searching the forums to root the new s7 we got last night but all I'm seeing is it must be on PE1. I haven't found anything about rooting a PK1. Can it be done? Have I just overlooked it? I tried to root using SM-G930P Root - Updated 10/25/2016 but I can't get the downloads to work. Every time I click the the blue download button, I get stuck in a spam/ads pop up loop. So I gave up and went looking for more info on rooting the PK1. Thanks guys!
I am also looking for this information as I recently purchased this model. The forums seem to suggest that you need to begin on the PE1 firmware, but information is unclear on whether a downgrade is possible.

You can downgrade to PJ2 but nothing before that. PJ2 is rootable, however you will lose voice and SMS.

Well that would make for a pretty useless smartphone...
I haven't yet put a SIM card in in it. I assume that doesn't make a difference? I saw the below, but wasn't sure if you could avoid the phone and text issue by not putting the SIM card in for the first time until AFTER it's rooted:

Someone who has solved?
can't downgrade firmware
I've been trying to root this phone (SM-G930P) for about 2 months now. Unfortunately I accepted an ota to what I believe was the PJ2 firmware shortly after getting it. Now I'm on PK1. I tried multiple times to downgrade to PE1 without any success. I believe it's a bootloader issue. I've successfully rooted the g935a for a coworker without a problem and was hoping this one could be rooted using the same method just flashing a different Eng Boot image of course. But samsung is not providing us a way to unlock the boatloader, which is basically like selling someone a car with the hood locked and even though they now own it legally, telling them they're not allowed to modify or even touch the engine.
Guess I'll just have to wait until someone finds a working method or I get fed up and switch to a Google or HTC device...

Is it a stable root? There's no problems right? I've rooted every android I've had except my S7 because of the bootloader. What other things does it disable other than the Samsung pay?

Just got an update to PL6. Any clue if this method would work?
Most roots released for the devices are "sboots" and are not meant to be used daily..
many roots for these devices are for unlocking/frp removal uses

Depending on what firmware you're on, it's a stable root. If you're on bootloader 3 and on APE 1 then it's fine, but bootloader 4 is difficult to root and not have issues. When rooting you obviously lose access to apps that don't allow rooted devices to use it such as snapchat, pokemon go, samsung pay, etc, etc.....

I am right there with you !!!! I have been working so hard to try to figure out why after the flash of their Engineering Boot file, that my mobile data network options disapear and i cannot get on a mobile network. Ive even paid for the app to unlock the device and it still will not let me turn it on. The options are completely gone. If anyone has any idea why this is happening or how to fix it, please let me know! I am still waiting for idoneapps to respond to this issue.

Damn, that sucks, did you get a refund? and yeah it always happens right after the Engineering boot file. Somehow my data was activated like the 6th time I rooted the phone, I'm pretty sure it was the lines I changed on Build.prop but the calls were not working.
Not yet. Still waiting to see what they say. Did you get it to finally work?

I was getting a ton of reboots (basically everytime I turned the screen on) after I rooted. I just took this update last night and now I haven't had a reboot and everything is working great. At least as stable as the ND3 version or probably more so.
I get Ann occasional reboot now, on nd3. I am rooted but still have a 0 Knox counter so I am staying right where I'm at. Seems the only reason for the update is to close the exploit. No thanks.

Cool. Thanks for the info.
I'm getting the update notification now as well (in US). Quick question though - I rooted via towelroot, do I need to do/undo/redo anything to retain root? I keep cancelling the update for now as I don't want to muck anything up.

Well, I don't know. I haven't seen any report yet on whether TowelRoot even still works on NG1. It probably does, but until someone uses it to successfully root an NG1 device, we won't know for sure.
If I were you, I'd probably install Voodoo OTA RootKeeper and run that before accepting the OTA. Then, if you do lose root, you could try just re-rooting with TowelRoot and post back here to let us know if that works. If it doesn't, then you could try to use RootKeeper to restore root.
But, if you are the first one to try it, there will always be the risk that you will lose root and not be able to get it back...

Towelroot does not work after updating to NG1, but CF Auto Root does.
I got NG1 today too (was on ND3 previously, unrooted)
I know the update notification talked about Kids Mode but i don't know where that's enabled, because nothing new in Settings menu.
So basically, it looks exactly like ND3 to me. which is fine, because ND3 was fine for me.
Just picked up a Tab Pro 8.4 from the BestBuy sale, first thing I noticed was that an update is available. I want a root method that does not trip Knox so I did not install the update yet, waiting to hear if TowelRoot will work but I have a feeling it will not.
Looked on there website and they are clear that this will work on kernel versions prior to June 2014 and they haven't updated that date yet.

My tab on the latest version constantly reboots at random. It's not an actual manual reboot because it cycles through without that startup music and it's slightly faster. Feels more like a restart of the android system files. Or something.
Anyone have a workaround?

Your phone has been rooted, so you cannot update it the normal way. Download the update from Sammobile when it's available, and use Mobile ODIN Pro to install it. Also check the options off to keep root. You could also use PC ODIN, but will lose Root.
Another option is wait till someone modifies the update so you will not loose root, and then flash it with the PC version.

Mobile Odin Pro will not update your bootloader to match the new ROM software and Radio/Modem update. It's not advised to update using MOP. Download the full NJ7 stock ROM http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/37101/N910TUVU1ANJ7_N910TTMB1ANJ7_TMB.zip/ and use Odin on the PC to flash it.
I will just unroot it when I get home and then do the update and root it back, hopefully it's a fix to the Internet issues and what other issues that others are having

I'm not an expert but I was able to apply the update as follows:
in superSU, unroot your phone.
then i just checked if I was fully unrooted, via trying to use a root app or download rootchecker via google play.
then when I knew i was unrooted, I downloaded KEIS3 and installed the update via KEIS.
afterwards, KEIS froze but my phone worked and it was updated to the latest firmware.
then i reapplied root.
hope this helps.

All the testing ive done....reboot brings it back to not working again.....there has to be someone who can figure this out
Does rebooting cause SuperSU to re-enable root? If that's not the case I imagine rebooting probably runs a system check for modified boot loader or whatever, which then sets a flag that Android Pay checks.
I've received my 5x (nice size, light and personally I think build quality is nice, coming from a Galaxy S4 and compared to wife's Nexus 6). Have to wait for the USB type C to USB 3 cable to root and decrypt.
Rebooted multiple times since rooting, Android Pay has had no issues. Still offers to add cards and such. It doesn't block payment right? I assume the issue is the app not loading properly overall.

Try to pay for something and see if it works.
Alright, that's the part I didn't test yet. I remember wallet would just deny you for being rooted or something, or at least it would give a message. I've seen no message and apparently if you just go into SuperSU then disable root it's assured to work. There are also obviously apps that can block an app from seeing the root status.

Android Pay uses the SafetyNet API. Hiding root from Android Pay will not do anything at the moment. Paying for something will not work either, but adding cards will

Do you have any update after reboot?
So I'll be trying to test this out tomorrow. I rooted and started Android Pay and tried to add a card, go the error that my hardware wasn't compatible, I hid/uninstalled SuperSU and reboot, then cleared all data from Android Pay, started it up again and it let me add my card and said everything is working.

If you leave root disabled it will always work (At least in my case)...as soon as you add root back and reboot...no go

Wallet has always worked on rooted without a hitch this bs didn't start until android pay came out. Good thing I have a physical wallet card and primarily use wallet for wire transfers between family memebers...I switch to keytag/keyring (blue icon in play store) since the split of wallet/pay into separate apps and haven't had any problems.

Yes, unencrypted and unlocked bootloader is fine. I have also been using chainfire's new systemless root method, and android pay works with it (for now)!

I have tried multiple zips to try to get the U software on my phone but always ends up not booting. It will show galaxy S7 and then boot straight back into recovery.
Can someone please provide a link to the exact download files I need. Sorry to start a thread over this. I'm just having a hard time finding the correct files. Thanks in advanced.
Anyone?
It should be as (simple) as..
Rooting your phone -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039 (this won't trip KNOX)
Downloading the proper firmware from SamMobile -> https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G930U/
Flash the firmware via odin (you can use the same method found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/official-stock-firmware-update-odin-t3335065)
Profit
I just did this recently to switch from SM-G930R4 to SM-G930V
Note, you will lose all data on the phone if you try this.

Can someone please provide a link to the exact download files I need. Sorry to start a thread over this. I'm just having a hard time finding the correct files. Thanks in advanced.

Go to Updato.com and get the newest SM-930U firmware from January and flash via Odin. The 930U firmware you flash must have a bootloader the as or newer than your current firmware or it will not boot. You do not have to root to update via Odin.

Thanks. I actually already got this done. The problem is I was using the CSC HOME file instead of the Other one. Thank for the reply tho! Maybe it will help someone else!
Just curious what the benefits of converting your Verizon phone to the U version is?

Less boat , no Verizon boot animation, and my favorite the spam dialer Verizon thought was a good idea to remove. I like to think of the U as pure Samsung vs the Verizon gimped software.

Is the bootloader unlocked? Is there any down side? LTE performance etc? Can this still be done if I loaded the Nougat beta on my G930V? Thanks in advance.

Bootloader is locked because it is a snapdragon variant. Only downside is can think is you would have to pay your bill in store or on a PC. Lte seems the same. Yes if nougat is on. You just load up the most recent U firmware and flash over nougat in odin.

Note, you will lose all data on the phone if you try this.

it shoudl be simple...but it failed for me in one of my two phones. now it keeps going to recovery (downloading the original firmware to reflash it). the one that worked was a SMG930VZDA (made in vietnam) while the one that didn't is a SMG930VZKA (made in korea). I hadn't updated either one from the original firmware, but not sure what firmware they came with....
so if it works, it's great, but if it fails...
I used the instructions and file in

You can still use the My Verizon app to pay, if you want to. You do lose Verizon's native VVM app, but there are workarounds to use Voice or another third-party VVM app (I personally use YouMail).

Hey your right! One less hassle.
Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a new g930r4 (US Cellular) because my last samsung got stolen. Anyway, the first time I turned on the phone, I started having multiple issues (kept rebooting, unable to recognize headset, kept freezing). Then I decided to change it to the g930U firmware and I noticed a HUGE difference. I totally recommend this to anybody that has same problems I mentioned. Thanks to all the information from this post, I was able to successfully flash the firmware. Thank you all for the support! I hope this helps someone out there whos still got some doubts.
Hello, I have the SM-G930V Snapdragon variant in the US and I would really like to root it to get a custom ROM. If you wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate a reply (if you have one) to this thread I made on the topic: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s7/help/questions-bootloader-rooting-custom-t3721109
So I just bought a used Galaxy s10 Plus on eBay. I was getting amazing battery life and great SOT but I was forced to download Android 11 by force update and now my SOT has gone down almost 2.5 hours from when it was previously running on Android 10. I despise having to deal with these issues even though its a used phone. On the SamMobile website I found the correct PDA G975U1UES5GUD1 but I can't find the CSC code on my phone and I am afraid I will flash the wrong firmware and damage the phone.
How can I Find the CSC code on my phone? The device is been used on Verizon prepaid via Red Pocket Mobile and its Factory GSM and CDMA unlocked. I would really appreciate any help I can get with this.
Thank you so much in advance.
Hello there, you are talking about the consumer software customization code right?

If you are you can find it by dialing *#1234# on the dial app. But i think it is VZW since you've said the carrier is Verizon.

Seems like this is it since your carrier is Verizon. You are residing in the US, right?

You won't damage your phone if they mismatch, probably only carrier settings would break
But the link I gave according to that you are having Verizon as the carrier and you are living in the US when you got force OTA update then it’ll match.
That's if you can go back.
Doesn't 11 update the boot loader version too?
Well yeah now that you mention it probably.
Hmm, but there should be a way of degrading the software even so.

If he uses Odin he can downgrade fine enough,
Unfortunately, I think he'll lose his data though.
I haven't downgraded from One UI 3.0 before since I only got a A21s.

I'm still running Pie. It's what I've been seeing here about the 11 update updating the boot loader too. Maybe that's OTA upgrades only.
Not a concern of mine though.
Data loss is a given... at least be prepared for it.
Yeah, I agree since I'm still running 10 Idk really about bootloader changes from 10-11.
But if that's the case then Its probably impossible to downgrade without getting a bricked phone.
Doublecheck the bootloader version code of both versions of android so you don't brick your phone.
This is starting to sound too risky I do appreciate everyones help on this post honestly but at this point I am not going to risk messing up a $330 phone. But thank you all for making things clear.

Yeah hopefully thank you for your help tho. Appreciate it.
No problem, but if the kernel hasn't changed the ROM can be downgraded. If it has you can just take it to Samsung and ask them to downgrade for you.
My friend did that.
