My Dad jumped from a Verizon iPhone 5c to a J3. He locked himself out of the 5c and lost everything. The 5c had Verizon's Backup Assistant Plus running on it which backed up his phone numbers every night. Thought it would be easy to get them back but the J3 doesn't include the Backup Assistant Plus program. It now has the Verizon Cloud, which of course is empty. The program is no longer on Google Play either.
I own a Galaxy S4 which has the program. My phone is rooted and I have extracted what I think is the APK from my phone that is the Backup Assistant Plus. (I could be wrong, not much info out there to tell me what APK is the correct file). The file I extracted was 'ba-syncservice-app-signed.apk' 426.3KB in size.
I transferred it to the J3 and activated it and it self installed. But I can't find an icon or anything for me to try to start the program to get at his stored numbers.
Is there anything that I can do to get access to the Backup Assistant Plus cloud so Dad can get his numbers back?
Thanks in advance.
Guess not.:cyclops:

hi guys, I made a backup of my buddies phone with philz recovery. Then I flashed it but the contacts did not sync and i forgot to back those up. So I went to restore the back up and upon booting up all the apps crash. Like I cant do anything, all i get is a black screen with "has suddenly stopped working"
I have no idea whats going on. I flashed phone back to stock and rooted it and am trying to use nandroid manager to go to the Com.contacts folder and extract/copy it but to no prevail. The contacts in this case are very important.
What's going on? What can I do to get the contacts out? Or why the heck wont the backup work? It's like it got corrupted even though it did say it backed up just fine with no errors. Thanks!
You can use Titanium Backup to extract data from nandroids.......you have to pay for the app.....but it is one of the most useful apps a rooted phone user can get.

Just thought id add a note here, the stock contacts app has the ability to backup/restore contacts, just go to your contacts and go to settings<contacts then there should be an import/backup option.

after a long tedious day I managed to succeed... I got the backup onto my pc, combined the couple .a-e files into one, and went into where the contacts2.db is, I then copied that to phone, and used a file explorer with root, copied and pasted it in the old place and walla... I converted contacts to google account as to "device" only and now they are finally actually being maintained by google sync.
I know that you can just import/export a contact list and I should of done that in the first place as it'd of saved me literally hours of work... But I thought that google automatically synced the contacts and that it wasnt that you had to change them over to google.
At least I guess the contact issue is solved. I still have no idea why the backup was having the apps crash. so It's good i made one to extract the file from but on the otherhand. It's useless in the sense i cannot boot it up.
So I rooted, got rid of all the AT$T stuff, and then got a Classic, well, problem is...I cant access the AT$T cloud to numbersync.
The option is there in messages app, backup and restore crap that is apparently needed for numsync to work, but every time i click it, it says cant access cloud.
Anyone have the apks for all the att crap, or an untouched titanium backup of system (preferred if possible) so i can get this to work.
I had to delete something with family, drive, or some other crapware, that makes cloud access possible, and i reinstalled locker and access the cloud fine there.
Also replaced the imsservice apk. Anyone know which app i need, or possibly att messages apk?
Thank you so much.
Yes I know I am an idiot for not backing this stuff up myself, but i got way too excited to see root, and way too happy debloating.
Don't say factory reset, it won't replace the apps.
Hi,
I got a new S8 yesterday and I am unable to use smart switch to transfer my apps and data to S8 from S5. I have CRdroid custom ROM on my S5 and I installed the Smart Switch app on S5 from google play store.
When i start the app on my S5, I get some error saying the "signining key is mismatched between the app and the firmware. Please check and reinstall ENG_APk to ENG_Firmaware or USER_APK to USER_Firmaware. Smart switch does not work if signining key is mismatched"
I would like to know if any of you have a solution to resolve this issue or any other method of transferring the apps and data from S5 to S8.
Thanks in Advance.
Regards
Sada
Make sure both phones are rooted
Install Titanium Backup on your S5 and backup all your user apps with data
Once finished go to your internal storage in your s5 and copy the folder TitaniumBackup to internal storage of your s8 and install Titanium Backup on the S8 and restore your data
Done

CRDroid is a custom rom based off lineageOS/AOSP. Smart switch only works on samsung (based) roms. That's why you get the key error.

For the same reason as above 99% of the time this will not work. You can't simply "copy" on AOSP and "paste" on Samsung roms. And even IF it works most likely there will pop up errors here and there.
My advise: Start with a clean slate.
All,
Thanks a lot for your responses and suggestions. I got my answer.

Has anyone figured out how to restore backups created with Google's native way in Nougat (maybe Marshmallow too)? I am coming from a Nexus 6p and I can see in my Google drive that there are backups there from my Nexus. My wife recently had a bootloop on her 5x and it worked beautifully to restore the installed apps and even home screens using the setup wizard.
I found this command to rerun the google setup wizard but it seems LG removed that functionality. Unless I did it wrong. I prepended this commmand with adb shell. That's correct right?
am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.google.android.setupwizard/.SetupWizardTestActivity
You should already have LG Mobile Switch on your G6. Just download it from the app store to your 6P and you can wirelessly transfer all your apps, photos and settings between the 2 phones.

I had a lot of problems with that way and ended up just installing everything again from the play store. What a pain in the ass. I dont understand if LG uses Google backups why cant I restore from one of them?

Because Google backups does not backup everything such as app settings unless the app was written to allow that. LG has nothing to do with it. You could have used the stock Android backup but again, not all settings would get restored.
I used Wondershare MobileGo application, backup to PC and restore from PC to new phone.
Hello,
I've succesfully rooted my Verizon S7 Edge in the hopes of restoring deleted texts/phone logs. However, the phone has always used the Message+ app, without the Verizon Cloud. There does not seem to be any copy of s contacts2.db and mmssms.db anywhere on the phone, so I'm assuming Message+ keeps its own copy. Does anyone know where those files might be located and how to go about browsing that db?
